How can square pegs, triangle pegs, odd shape pegs be round pegs? Very simple, just take a hammer and bang them into a round hole and proclaim, see they all fit. This is about everything Seah Kian Peng wrote in his facebook about PJ Thum, Teo Soh Lun, Jolovan Wham, Kirsten Han and others accusing them of not wanting Singapore well. I will not want to waste time explaining what he said or tried to say. What caught my interest is this part about what Barker said during independence.
'When moving this constitutional amendment in Parliament, our first
Minister for Law, and the author of the Separation Agreement, Mr EW
Barker, said that “in the methodology of the destruction of a nation by
its foes, war by force of arms is not necessarily the only means
employed. The independence of a nation may, by more subtle means, be
subverted.”
He also said: “The seductive blandishments of foreign agents must not be allowed to succeed.”
Quite right and I am sure Singaporeans will agree with that.' Seah Kian Peng
Just take note of these two points: One, The independence of a nation may, by more subtle means, be
subverted.' and two, 'The seductive blandishments of foreign agents must not be allowed to succeed.' In point one, think about the flooding of the island with foreigners and giving away citizenship freely to make the original Singaporeans a minority and with the foreigners stealing the jobs of Singaporeans. In point two, I would just say that the destruction of a country need not be by foreign agents but by Singaporeans acting for foreign agents or foreign interest that are againt Singaporean interest.
The foreign agents are dangerous and they wear a badge telling you they are foreign agents. The more dangerous ones do not wear foreign badges but tell you they are your friends, they are one of you, they are doing it for you, they are here to help. You would not have any clue that they are selling you away or robbing your money.
I would leave the readers to ponder over what I said and not be misled by red herrings.
This morning's thenewpaper has more to add to the controversy. Shanmugam correctly said that no foreigners should be invited to intervene in our domestic politics. The accused should wait for Mahathir to retire then ask him to apply for Singapore citizenship and become instant Singaporean. Never mind where his loyalty is, as a new Singaporean he can then interfere for all he likes in Singapore's politics in our foreign talent scheme. Just a caveat and I quote, Thum was quoted to invite Mahathir to 'take leadership in Southeast Asia for the promotion of democracy, human rights freedom of expression and freedom of information.' Is there any difference in this and inviting the Americans here to be the policeman of SE Asia?
Another point raised by Seah Kian Peng is that Thum's rejoice on Malaysia Independence Day 'does not wish Singapore well.' Everyone Singaporean must take note that they shall not participate and rejoice in other country's independence day or political celebration, and not to allow foreigners to celebrate their independence day in Singapore. Also, no one shall talk about joining Malaysia or become part of Malaysia. This is treason.
These are the new points that came out today and I am still pondering over them, whether they make sense or pure hogwash, or contradictory.
PS. If Singapore becomes part of Malaysia, it would lose its independence. If Singapore is taken over by foreigners, it would also lose its independence, or the original Singaporeans would lose their country.
Over 25 years of deliberate open-leg FT policy, with turning annually of between 20,000 to 30,000 of foreigners to new voting (most likely for PAP, a political party) citizens at the expense of Singaporeans and naming PRs as Locals, is that consider subtle or blatant disloyalty to Singapore and Singaporeans or is it subversion?
ReplyDeleteAll above with great disregard and disapproval of majority of Singaporeans.
Like they said, Jobs for FTs and NS for Sinkies.
Singapore "is a place which is special, which belongs to all of us”, which included “Singaporeans, new arrivals, people who are on permanent residence here, people who are on employment pass here, all participating in one big Singapore family.”
ReplyDeleteWho said that famously in May 2014 ?
The PAP government has sold the country to foreigners. They are swarming all over the island in greater and greater numbers. Among them are foreign agents and fifth columnists. Inviting Dr M to take over the leadership in promoting democracy and human rights in SE Asia certainly reflect badly on PAP leaders. They do not fit the bill. Democracy and human rights were buried alive since the days of LKY.
ReplyDeleteThe Law Minister should investigate and examine the May 2014 statement by "who" and see whether betrayal and disloyalty or even treason committed to Spore & Singaporeans? Hahaha.....and of course....
ReplyDeletePapies treat sinkies like absolute trash but sinkies still want to fight for their high pay and multi million dollars assets? Sinkies better think twice.
ReplyDeleteAs I have perceived (and confirmed by the pro-foreigners, anti-Singaporeans policies) since 1990, when Dead Wood took over, the subversive elements have already infiltrated right into the inner cycle.
ReplyDeleteAnd after the Dishonourable One took over, the subversive elements plain-sailing penetrated right to the very top of the pyramid.
The cunning subversive are always quick to point a finger in the opposite direction. But they forgot that when pointing the index finger, the thumb points downwards and the other three fingers point backwards.
The ones who are quick to shout "Wolf" and shouts the loudest are the ones who must either be ignored or be considered as mischievous boys.
How many nationals from India are there employed in Singapore today?
ReplyDeleteHow come no official data for jobs that go to India nationals such as "local" permanent resident India national Singapore-flag-tearing Patnaik ?

ReplyDeleteSingapore "is a place which is special, which belongs to all of us”, which included “Singaporeans, new arrivals, people who are on permanent residence here, people who are on employment pass here, all participating in one big Singapore family.”
That is a treacherous statement. Whoever claimed that Singapore also belong to foreigners has committed TREASON! Plain and simple.

Although hate PAP elites for their stratospheric salaries yet incompetence, and bringing more 2 million foreigners to work in Singapore to push our costs of living to world's highest and deprive us of job opportunities, still think it's very disgusting for the group of Tan Wah Piow, Thum Ping Tjin, Kirsten Han, Sonny Liew and Jolovan Wham to go to Malaysia's Putrajaya to court one-leg-in-coffin Mahathir . .

I. Dissent and controversy
One aspect of dissent and the resulting controversy from respondents is not so much the evaluation of what was said which elicited the (expected) response, but the spotlight on the individuals and their opinions in response to what rocked their sampan in the first place.
An open society needs dissent and unpopular ideas which go to the extreme. And one should expect wild and chaotic responses as peoples' brains crank over to deliver mostly NOISE, with some SIGNAL.
The idea that Dr M is some kind of political superhero which will bring democracy to Singapore and thus save us from a plutocracy is wild, new and way out to lunch, with close to ZERO chance of ever occurring. There are reasons for this:
1. Singapore's political track record suggests that a "soft dictatorship" is the most effective way of governing our Rocking City State.
2. "Democracy" (of which there are many flavours) is neither the "panacea" for freedom or success of a nation state. For e.g. a peoples' democracy in China will probably end up in civil war and devastate, if not fracture, the unity of mainland China. Similarly a command and control authoritarian regime in the USA will result in people loading up their guns and fighting the state...which leads to the 3rd point...
3. The political system of every cuntry is a derivative of that country's CULTURE. Over time, cultures change, and when they do, so will the politics. Using our own cuntry as an example: we have a lot more opportunity and wealth as Singaporeans now than what, say, "The Pioneer Generation" had when Singapore was just kicked out of the Federation and had to survive solo, being "cursed to fail" by those cunts from UMNO. We've been laughing ever since---despite all sorts of "shenanigans" they've tried over the last 50 or so years.
Dissenting opinion is better tolerated in Singapore now than it ever was. Shanmugam is "saddened" by this latest barrage of dissent which appears to be "anti-Singapore". But he hasn't arrested anyone. Yet. Shanmugam, a supposedly erudite and capable law maker, I feel, has missed the point. The "controversy" is not anti Singapore as much as it is anti-PAP's governance of Singapore. The difference might be subtle, and lost in the Miasma of Over-Reactive Noise, but this distinction IS VITALLY IMPORTANT. WHY?
Because if you fail to make the distinction, you will automatically conclude that these dissenters are AGAINST THE WHOLE CUNTRY, which clearly they are not. They want CHANGE to the governing politics of Singapore. The subtext couldn't be clearer:
1. They don't like the PAP's way
2. They claim that Singaporeans are not getting a fair-go in deciding the course of their nation and society
3. Social dislocation (which is a global phenomenon) becomes increasingly unbearable, and thus untenable for much longer
..continued...

ReplyDeleteII The Predictable Dr M
If DJ Trump is "mercurial" by Dr M's assessment, then I think it's fair to say that Dr M is a predictable old dog whose bag of tricks viz a viz Singapore is well-regarded and well-used. Still, I have a form of morbid fondness for Dr M. He is a cunty arsehole who is a skilled political operator , Statesman and Machiavellian Manipulator. If he was a con man or a psychopath, he'd be inordinately successful. Like or loath Dr M, but there is no doubt he did a lot of good and some bad with Malaysia. But at the end of the day, politics is downstream from culture, so The Sheeple Always Get The Cunty Old Dog They Deserve. Predictable? You bet!
A DEAL IS A TRADE
Singapore in all fairness must muster up the balls to agree that the world is different from 1960's Straits Settlement days. 3 sen for water is essentially "free stuff" at the expense of Malaysia. Dr M is CORRECT: THE PRICE IS UNFAIR. We should pay more for the water. The world has changed. When the deal was struck, the world was on The Bretton-Woods partial Gold Standard. No longer. Purchasing power of ALL CURRENCIES has declined substantially. We don't pay 10¢ for a kopi-o and another 10¢ for a prata anymore. Those days are well and truly OVER.
Like any trade, the nature should change if the conditions change. A deal takes into account price fluctuations. However if those fluctuations exceed "reasonable ranges", then the trade (deal) becomes "lopsided" with one party at a significant advantage, and the other party bearing significant losses. How long can that go on for? Not long. Something must change, or the thing will FALL APART.
One solution would be to gradually increase the price paid, say 1 sen per year for a specified time. So the 1st year the increase is 33.3%, the 2nd year 25%, 3rd year 20% and so on. They could even tie the increment to a fixed standard like gold, or a basket of currencies and commodities---after all water is a commodity paid for by currency.
But before any of the above can occur---in Dr M's words discuss the matter like civilised people✪ Personally, I think the matter can be solved...despite the obnoxious flag-waving and jingoistic noise from the Singapore and Malaysian internets.
✪ Dr M's subtext: "I'm civilised, hopefully you are too. If not, become civilised so we can talk"
Hi Anon 9.40

After reading Anon 9.49 post, think got to monitor the BP again.
What's wrong with them meeting Dr.Mahathair?? Only those who feared their wrong doings will have supscious evil thoughts of what's they gonna harm you.
What's the fark they taking Singaporeans must not rejoice in other National Days joys when our chia liow bee PinkyLoong justs spend his time sending congratulatory and condolences messages whilst collecting his billion $$$$$ salaries.
Why this year he did not send congratulatory message to Dr M???
Why the Sham is so tame in his words regarding this episode??
He knew better not to toy with this Dr M whose prick is alreday ten dan black in colour fighting anyone even LKY.
Why they have those journalists writing so many adversarial columns in our MSM which is much worse than just a once off meeting.
They are trying to forewarn the PAPies that their time is UP.
What happened in Malaysia can be also happen in Sinkieland.
The Papies skunks now trying to score brownie points so that they hope to be re-elected.
Hoping to have more monies to stuff into their coffins.
This Seah already leeched so much from the tax payers and still wants more.
Chinkees real Chinkees.
All is false, only Monies is their GOD.
Everyone thinks so highly of Mahathir. I am thinking of writing a piece on how he destroyed Msia and the Malays with his racist policies that said, he did it for Malaysia and for the good of the Malays, but killing and destroying them in the end.
ReplyDeleteThis man thinks the world owes him a living. He wanted to borrow money from Spore, from Japan and latest from China. He went home empty handed. He wanted free money!
Who does he think he is? His recent trip to China, wanted China to lend him money to pay for the loans for the mega projects ie, China builds, China pays, China also lend him money to pay.
Gila. Went Japan also same thing. Japan pays for him for the mega projects. Anytime he is going to kick the bucket. The next guy is going to dishonour everything he signed. Who is so gila to give money to him?
ls there any need to tell sinkies that they are invaded, or rather sold ?
ReplyDeleteWho sold and betrayed Sinkies ?
Could it be Sinkies sold themselves to their Leeders who in turn sold Sin and Sinkies to Others.
Think about it seriously.
Sinkies asked for it and got it.
Dr Triple M should add one more M to his name. The 4th M stands for MONEY.
ReplyDeleteMahathir's ideas only can work in Malaysia because Malays are the majority voters that he can easily manipulate. His appeal rests on his ability to harness public sentiments from the Malay sector to further his agenda, that already failed big time. His new ideology is just version 2 of his old mantra, wrapped in a new cover to sell.
ReplyDeleteBy making sure his education policy favours the Malays entering the higher education institutions, and therefore failing to produce good thinking talents, and continue instilling the crutch mentality that make the Malays unable to compete, and therefore beholden to his policy, he and his successors can literally control the Malays into voting for his racially biased party perpetually to continue favouring the Malays for generations to come.
If a country cannot compete, others are not going to wait for it to move like a tortoise or even stop moving or move backwards to accommodate that tortoise. Don't believe in the story about the hare and the tortoise.
Malaysia, going forward, will be the economic sick man of Asia, while Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand and others in the North takes off.
As sure as the sun rising in the East if it does not realise this and change! But the man never admit his shortcomings and wants just to appear winning, like Donald Trump.
Do Singaporeans get a fair deal from its own government? The water and electricity charges is increased substantially under all kinds of distorted reasons. They do not increase water charges by 30 percent. It is very much more. Check your PUB bill and you will find there are other hidden charges and with added tax on tax. Why is there a need to increase electricity charges when our electricity is generated by natural gas where there is a glut worldwide and the price has floored substantially? Moreover petrol price had gone down as low as US$30 for many years until recently when it fluctuates around $50 to $60. Yet the reduction doesn't reflect in petrol kiosk pumps. Are Singaporeans being swindled and short changed? Moreover than those essential in the Central Business District why is there a need to build ERP gantries all over the island and with ever increasing rates and time frequency. All this and other hidden taxes reflect just sheer glutton greed on the part of the government. No wonder they justify to pay themselves sinful salaries of millions of dollars through increase revenues from taxes and not from efforts to think of new ways of national productivity to generate national income through innovation of new clusters of business. They simply run out of ideas. They are causing Singapore to decline and doomsday is not too far if they do not wake up and take corrective action.
ReplyDeleteA patriot fearful for Singaporeans
Dr M is a very narrowMinded person who always uses RACE to justify. He cannot wait for Sg to fail. JB and East Malaysia better get out from the federation before he dooms them.
ReplyDeleteDr Mahathir is never a narrow-minded person.
ReplyDeleteOn the contrary, he is a great statesman.
He is shrewd enough to be able to make a come-back based on a Multi-Racial platform of a Malaysian Malaysia, which has got him the majority votes on 9th May 2018.
Those who criticize him now are still living in the past, unable to let go the old baggages, jealous of his outstanding success at such an advanced age, or have an axe to grind. Period.
Blinded by rage, vengence and hatred, drink by jealousy and bitterness, some myopic bigots are going for Dr Mahathir's jagular vein.
One can easily see the sting in the words of such bigotry.
Excepts from The Straits Times:
ReplyDeleteHistorian Thum Ping Tjin on Monday (Sept 3) responded to criticism of his meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, saying any notion that he is a traitor to Singapore is "ridiculous and unfounded".
Dr Thum met the Malaysian premier last Thursday in Putrajaya, along with former student union leader Tan Wah Piow, freelance journalist Kirsten Han, comic artist Sonny Liew, activist Jolovan Wham and Malaysian social activist Hishamuddin Rais.
Home Affairs and Law Minister K. Shanmugam on Sunday described the conduct of the Singaporeans involved in the meeting as "sad" and "regretful".
He said it is an absolute no-no to invite a foreign politician to intervene in Singapore's domestic politics, and added "it is quite clear what that means" when Dr Thum wrote in a Facebook post after the meeting that he had urged Tun Dr Mahathir to "take leadership in South-east Asia for the promotion of democracy, human rights, freedom of expression and freedom of information".
Responding on Monday, Dr Thum said: "I love my country and my people. I believe democracy, human rights, freedom of expression, and freedom of information will make Singapore and our world better."
He added that he would "never stop fighting for a Singapore that embraces those values."

ReplyDelete@ and the answer is...
ReplyDeleteMore Capitalism. i.e. more autonomy for individuals to choose their enterprise and try to generate income and profit.
Apart from everything else, it was CAPITALISM which pulled SE Asia (poorest place on earth) to what it is today. Sure there was corruption, nepotism and cronyism which fucked it up here and there, but generally speaking the implementation of working systems of govt and the rule of law allowed the private sector to flourish and raise the living standards of SE Asia.
Like everything else, some cuntries did better, and some are still trying to catch up. Ho Chi Minh City tips the hat to the eponymous western-influenced communist revolutionary hero, but there is nothing "communist" about old Saigon. Everyone is hustling and bustling, all trying to make a buck, and propel themselves and their "communist" cuntry up the social mobility ladder.
It is unlikely that Malaysia will fail and become the sick man of Asia. As long as The Ethnic Chinese private sector is productive Malaysia won't fail. The power of capitalism is its systems. You don't need a nation of entrepreneurs to become rich. All you need is a few who will start the ball rolling, and more to pick up the baton and run their own race.
Humans copy "positive" human behaviour. When they see other humans making money, they too want to make money and so the thing starts, and picks up speed. The most important thing is for the govt to get out of the way---but still imposing the rule of law to prevent and solve conflicts, and maintain the peace.
Mahathir plays the race card...because IT WORKS. It won't work in, say, Canada. If you said English Canadians need to be #1, fuck the French, I guarantee you even peaceful Canada will have riots and civil unrest. Look at those people playing the race card in western democracies---they are universally condemned. However in Malaysia, it works like a charm! And so because politics is derived from culture, they have the politics they have as a result.
Historian Dr T is a typical ivory-tower academic who rarely gets to observe the real world without using his own biases and filters---i.e. the unvarnished view of things "as they really ARE". Don't get me wrong there is nothing wrong with that. Everyone is entitled to be wrong and hold biased, unpopular opinions. In fact, ALL OPINIONS are BIASED.
Going to KL to ask Dr M to "take leadership" for political change in Asia was obviously not backed up by any research or deep thinking beforehand. In typical fashion, Shanmugam also over-reacted. Please lah, let the fella go and do his thing lah. It's his ideas and his money, and his time. No response required because nothing will happen!
Democracy is a consequence of economic success. Get out of poverty FIRST. Make sure the kids have a decent shot for their own success in the future. When that happens, the culture will change...and you will get DIFFERENT POLITICS.
Democracy also cannot occur without the evolution of strong social institutions---i.e. no govt, privately and voluntarily organised entities run by The People themselves. As these institutions grow in strength and influence, they will play a part in cultural and social, and then political change.
There is no super-hero who has magical powers which can make SE Asia democratic by "leadership" alone. Anyone who thinks that is nuts.
P.S. Pay more for the water lah. It's the right thing to do. But all deals are a trades. So if Dr M wants something, we need to get something too. Quid pro quo. Just like 69 in sex---you do me, I do you...both are better off and shiok. Don't be an asshole and do a 68---"you do me, I owe you one". That is just bad business. 🤡
The PAP government deserved what's coming. Tan Wah Piow and Dr Thum were both on the receiving ends of an oppressive PAP government. Both are determined to put an end to tyranny and revive democracy. The PAP government's hackles have been raised. A symbiotic relationship is developing among Dr M, Dr Thum and Tan Wah Piow to promote democracy in SE Asia. The PAP government's fear of an insurrection being planned is totally unfounded.

No. None at all."
Another ex-sinkie: "Take it from a Singaporean who lived in the USA for many years: the quality of living in Singapore is not
'amazingly high'. It is far lower than that in America. I've not heard a single Singaporean or American who
has lived in both countries express any sentiments contradicting this assertion.
Singaporeans who've lived in the US almost unequivocally say that living in the US is much better despite
the higher taxes: the working hours are shorter, the cost of living is lower, the air is fresher, there is freedom
of speech, getting ahead depends less on whom you know and more on your ability, etc. Sure, taxes are
higher but that is the price you pay for a well-run society and social safety nets to help the less fortunate.
Poor people in Singapore live a lot worse than poor people in America. If you suffer from any kind of
physical or mental disability, it is even worse for you. The income inequality in Singapore is also
significantly higher and there is little social security/insurance. This is why you'll see a lot of old people
doing menial labor in Singapore and picking garbage"

Why would I trade the option to live in a big country, with being stuck living in an overcrowded little island ? So what if I'm treated as 2nd class citizen in Malaysia, afterall don't Singaporeans also complain about being treated as 2nd class citizens by your own government ? and hope the govt understand this and that the little red dot is only good to foreigners to transit here temporarily to make the best they can before they leave again. and for such reasons, it is only fair that foreigners should not be treated like citizens.
but the current volte face is not so much as to gain citizenship but because the citizens are angry and everyday kpkb about their disadvantageous position vis a vis foreigners. it is the govt's way of appeasing the anger of the people.
come on, like you said, how many angmohs will like to exchange their passports for a red dot passport? let's be real.

“Integrity is one of Keppel’s core values. We do not and will not tolerate any illegal activity in the conduct of our business. We regret and are deeply disappointed by the actions that we now know to have taken place at the Group’s offshore and marine business in Brazil from around 2001 to 2014.
Global companies such as Keppel have both a legal and moral duty to operate fully within international laws and regulations. Any perception that illegal payments can be condoned, if they are made by agents, is wrong and will not be tolerated.
Since the allegations emerged, we have moved quickly and decisively to put in place stricter controls and embedded best practices across the Group to ensure that such unacceptable behavior will not be repeated.”

ReplyDeleteThe PAP will shout 'Heng Ah' that the MSM did not talk about it, so most of the dafts are not aware of the issue of how much the reserves are left. Not to say that the MSM would dare to talk about it anyway. The top secret is still safely in the bag.
A trillion today might be worth only a quarter of its buying power in thirty years time, if the investment returns are not good enough to compensate for inflation.
Why keep the reserves to benefit the growing army of foreigners who became citizens, and who came here to have a share of the cake and eat it? This is money from the blood and sweat of past and present generation of true blue Sinkies.

ReplyDeleteThese posts though reserves is real cash. So sinkieland has trillions cash unused? It seems not.
If one recalls, the budget must have a positive ending figure. If it is 8bil, then 50x8=4000bil cash should sit on the underground store room. U believe?
The telling sign was: the elites sold one ubs partially. It caused a loss $US4 billions. Any tom plays shares will think hard to buy ubs when it was about to collapse, yet kfc explained it was for long term. It cleared part of the account for a loss of sin 6 bil. That whole account is screwed, no way to make 6 bil cash back. Who object?
Why sold the shares at loss? Simply: there are other bonds to be paid. Cash is needed. Why not take from reserves? Can. But according to "immeasurable service", he knew 32 drawings from reserves, something like tat.
So is the reserves in positive figure or negative figures? It goes both way.
Laymen looks at people living in high stories towel and drive big car as rich. This is sinkieland on surface. But a big car boss can go "disappear chaolow" over night. One movie actress acted in huenchukeke was always being featured as millionaires. Her offices in Beijing suddenly emptied. Hanjin shipping was big time in 2016. Its now no more.
Hanjin owed 6.5trillions debts (in krw). Its retained earnings was in negative 2.5trillions. What Hinjin did was covering its short term debts by issuing bonds, until it finished last breath.
Got the story clear? Sinkieland might be short of cash. It cannot borrow by bonds. So it sells lands. Tax the citizens, especially those selling flats with levies. Tax buyers on cars. Tax citizens on GST. These are majors. There are plenty of minors taxes like conservancy charges, surge charges on electricity and water etc.
When comes to social welfare, the elites will say oh now need to increase taxes. Is this a new item in budget? Never.
If every body has high earnings at 60k a year like what the statistics said, why need welfare?
It is a figures play and the words say sinkies are rich. In real sense, few has 60k a year salaries.
The average families are earning probably 30ks. This figure is unchanged since the son took over. The reason is: the elite uses foreign cheap labor to replace whatever jobs citizens can bargain for higher salary. As a result, the taking in taxes are low. The internal consumption which GST based on are low. So the elites tax the citizens more.
Did citizens remember when sinkies make money, they were doing OEM for angmore countries. Now the sinkie s OEM are done in China. Taiwan, eg also kenna Apple changing OEM. From Honhai to Luxshares, soon.
But diehard sinkies elites cannot get away from doing OEM. Instead, they let firms hire cheap labor to replace citizens asking for higher salary. Look at the 2.5millons foreigners. There jobs is similar to sinkies serving bonds to external debtors:
1. the PR cpf will take out 100%. More PR, more cash need to pay off the external debts.
2. the cash earn by foreigners will ship out. This constantly hurt the internal consumption the elite wants to build up. The elites called "re structuring". No salary high enough to spare, got re structuring? So taxes collections is poor. And they really think raising taxes will help to pay off their keep increasing civil service expenses.
Sinkiesland is like Hanjin. With big assets to show off, but run out of cash. Some thought they have reserves as cash? The elites never show the real figure. Can u image if the figure is negative liao? Who knows. The reason they keep it secret is also a telling sign. If disclosing the figures, may be opposition refuse to be govt in next election. Who knows, correct. To increase taxes to pay for a $100 over millions welfare figures is very difficult to understand the needs. Sinkies has 4trillions reserves based on the above estimation. Haha. This post is meant for pondering, nothing else.

Temasek abt $270bln
MAS abt $353bln.
GIC disclosed way north of US $ 100bln. Foreign analysts speculate abt $500bln.
So total est about $1.15 TRILLION.
Probably dont want citizens to know we have so much reserves & that they are still SQUEEZING citizens like nobody business and also no need to ACCOUNT for poor fund management performances lah. ReplyDeleteredbean
Good try. Comments by me would be accompanied by my pics.
@ all
ReplyDeleteYes, your estimates of the reserves are in the ballpark of my own intel.
The situation has got to be very serious---like a clear and direct threat to the security of Singapore---before the govt will "draw down on the nation's CAPITAL STOCK".
Like even the most basic financial manager knows: Never draw down on capital especially for CONSUMPTION.
In basic "statecraft", the survival and continuation of The Nation State is far more important than the survival and continuance of human lives, which is why in war, lives are sacrificed for the CUNTRY.
So any fancy ideas you might have about govt drawing down on the reserves to give "free money" to people struggling to pay their utility bills, is just wishful thinking.
Human beings are born, live out their lives, then die and are soon forgotten. But The Nation State keeps going on and on.
Lao Hero (26/6/2018): ///The indignity of being overpaid in million dollar salaries
ReplyDeleteThere was a time when earning a million dollar salary was something to be proud of. Oops, actually it is still something to be proud of anytime and anywhere if one can earn such money as salary. And it is also right to say that dignity comes with such a salary. But a high salary is not necessarily equated with dignity. Donald Trump, the President of USA gets a US$1 salary a year as a token. Is his dignity diminished or lesser than those who earned more then him? Nay. Xi Jinping, the President of PRC earns less than $30,000 a year. Anyone earning more than him would dare to claim that he has bigger dignity than Xi or Trump? Nay.
Dignity is not the money you are earning, but the value or worth of the person, what is he contributing, able to contribute to country, organisation or society. The indignity part comes when one is earning ridiculous salary and contributing nothing.
The million dollar, oops, multi million dollar salaries of Singapore's politicians is becoming a joke and the talk in town. No one has anything good to say about this indiscretionary abuse of public money to pay such humongous salary that it is becoming so glaringly clear that it is not right. People who are being paid in the millions but are seen to be contributing nothing or contributing foolishly with silly ideas would never have the dignity associated with the million dollar salary. What they have is indignity and disdain. Instead of the awe and respect they should be receiving, people would be shaking their heads in disbelief when they appeared. And many smug and unceremoniously remarks would be uttered at the indignity of such million dollar salary recipients. They have become walking exhibits of ridiculous and pompous duds. There is no dignity.///
