The Select Committee has come out with a national strategy ‘to combat
fake news campaigns run by foreign operators to safeguard its
sovereignty and security. The focus of the Committee is foreign
operators and social media. The problem is that local operators and main
stream media are not saints and angels either and did not conduct
campaigns to undermine the country’s and national interest. This point
is not addressed by this Committee or only superficially.
The Committee claimed that they have ‘evidence suggesting that “a range
of state and non state actors” are engaging in disinformation operations
here, and that these operators have used online news articles and
social media to influence Singaporeans and legitimize another state’s
international actions.’ It also mentioned that “a particular foreign
state” without identifying it, had launched closed to 40,000 attacks.
The identity of this state is quite obvious depending on what lenses one
is wearing. Some choose to call it A state, some choose to call it B
state, according to their vested interests and alignment with the
respective state.
If one is to read the so called serious articles posted in the main
media, one can easily identify the amount of falsehood and fake news
used to undermine certain states with disinformation, and I quote
thenewpaper report, ‘”Cyber armies” are also deployed to aid sectarian
or political agendas in several neighbouring countries, and these can
easily be repurposed and deployed against Singapore.’
How such blatant distorted fake news and political disinformation could
be allowed into the main media needs no explanation. There is no need
for more training for journalists or editors to make them less so stupid
to miss the biased contents, agenda in fake news. Other than those that
have not read history or political science, or are absolute idiots,
anyone with a little common sense would be able to check the facts and
distill the truth from fake news.
Often the fake news in the main media is done in collusion with foreign
states to disparage and attack other states. Main media is as guilty or
more guilty than social media in the spread of fake news and
disinformation for political agendas.
So, where are we heading in this witch hunt? How real is the effort to fight fake news?
Telling half truths instead of hard truths is also very fake news.
ReplyDeleteWho is very often guilty of that ?
@ RB and fellow "fake news" skeptics:
ReplyDeleteOne thing about being a rich cuntry, is that you can afford to be over-governed. You can afford to waste money on "Select Committees" to fight invisible demons...and use those Committees to tell the world world (where everyone is stupider than your coterie of EXPENSIVE elites) that only they have the "truth" and everything else is "fake".
Then all of us can rest easy, put our skepticism and cynicism to rest knowing that our expensive government has got all of our interests at heart.
During General Election cycles, such "specialised ex-spurts" can ensure that the narrative is "truthful" so that voters know and thus will cast their votes in concorde with "The ABSOLUTE Truth" and thus preserve our sacred democracy from being hijacked by "evil doers".
By using their special MAGICAL powers, backed up by WISHFUL THINKING, these "special forces of Truth and Light" will vanquish all deception and untruthfulness from every realm of human activity, thrusting our species into an evolutionary path which will eventually lead to a human species which will never, ever, ever again tell lies. Everyone will tell the truth, everytime, without fail. 🤣😂
Yeah, good luck with that!
"The Select Committee has come out with a national strategy ‘to combat fake news campaigns run by foreign operators to safeguard its sovereignty and security."
ReplyDelete---
I've yet to see a Select Committee to come out with a national strategy "to create real jobs for real Singaporeans to safeguard our sovereignty and security."
This is just another step for their 'TOTAL CONTROL'.
ReplyDeleteAny news not glamouring those in power aka papies are Fake news.
A national plan to fight fake news is an insidious attempt by the government to control what can be published and read by the masses. In short, censorship will be used by the state to curb freedom of expression. The PAP government's intention is clear. It is to turn the Little Red Dot into a police state. This will allow the government to crush and suppress dissent and any opposition to its rule. The State will employ more spin doctors to come up with its own fake news.
ReplyDeleteCPF is not your money.
ReplyDeleteThe value of HDB flats will keep going up.
People who earn less than $500k are mediocre.
Foreigners create good jobs for Singaporeans.
Singapore is land scarce but can grow population to 6.9m, 15m and more.
Are these fake news or truth?
Who are spreading these news?
Wild-ass guesses on the agenda items of The Select Committee
ReplyDelete1. The money in your CPF is definitely your money. We will hunt down that Matilah fucker and others of similar opinion for spreading Fake n
News telling people "CPF is not their money. It is a tax nd a Ponzi scheme" for nearly 20 years.
2. Your HDB is definitely your property, private property. Can public housing be private property? Of course can! This is Singapore, when we say "can" means "definitely can". When we say "cannot", we mean "cannot"...if you try shit, we jail you!
3. Ministerial Pay is Justified. We need top people to govern the cuntry...none of those mediocre $500k per annum assholes.
They said Thum told lies. They don't tell fibs???
ReplyDeleteMust be same Standard as their Shits Times.
They be churning propaganda everyday with Shits Times.
What's True news the Govt Medias churn out???
As Ann said. Their main objective is to curb any dissents against them as False News.
The Sinkies dafts who cared more on the Pink Dot Movement and their I-Phones would believe them.
Apathy. See how long you can still queue for your play toys.
In time to take over the old generations survival routes to pick cardboards.
Think For Your Future Generations
ReplyDeleteTaken in context with the overall objective for a "Smart City", where everything, every person, every event, every movement and every activity can be monitored, controlled and manipulated by the government of the day, this "national plan to combat online falsehood" is just a small part of the Ultimate Plan of a Totalitarian Government run by a Select Group of Elitists who are EXTREMELY PARANOID OF LOSING POWER because they know that the CONSEQUENCES of them Losing Power will be UNIMAGINABLE. May be much worst than what Najib and UMNO is going through now.
Anyway, Nature has a way to fight Oppression, Suppression, Obssession and Mass Deception and Intimidation. The more the people are oppressed, suppressed and controlled, the worst will be the uprising and final collapse of a Totalitarian Regime bent at Total Control.
Freedom and Variety are the basic foundations of all living things, especially human beings. Freedim of Expression facilitates communication and encourage imagination, initiative and innovation. A country devoid of Freedom of Expression is a country doomed to fail in the long-run, because courage, motivation, imagination, initiative, innovation and true leadership have been stifled, obstructed, limited, suppressed and annihilated. Therefore, anyone who loves his/her country and people must always remember this and take action individually or collectively to ensure that his/her future generations will not become victims of Pretentious Gentleman-Looking Elitists who have nothing but Greed for Power, Money, Glory and Fame in their hearts (if they still have).
Your journey to Individual and Collective FREEDOM starts with your very first step - COURAGE to choose.
Which pill do you choose? Red or Blue?
Singapore is a victim of disinformation in the main media?
ReplyDeleteWhat a joke. If Singapore does not become a little USA and sell fake news to discredit and attack other countries, the sun will rise from the West.
ReplyDeleteFrom Trade War To Military War - One Step Closer?
The US has imposed sanctions on the Chinese military over its purchasing of Russian military jets and surface-to-air missiles.
It says such purchases contravene US sanctions on Moscow introduced over Russian actions in Ukraine and alleged interference in US politics.
China recently bought 10 Russian Sukhoi Su-35 fighter jets and S-400 missiles.
Beijing has not joined in the sanctions imposed on Moscow by the US and its Western allies since 2014.
Its forces took part in giant Russian war games held earlier this month.
Sanctions: What are they and why do countries use them?
Relations between the US and Russia deteriorated rapidly after Moscow annexed Crimea from Ukraine in 2014.
Russia's alleged meddling in the 2016 American presidential election and military involvement in Syria's ongoing civil war increased tensions.
Who is affected by the sanctions?
China's Equipment Development Department (EDD) and its head, Li Shangfu, are sanctioned for completing "significant transactions" with Russia's state arms exporter, Rosoboronexport.
The EDD and Mr Li have been added to a Blocked Persons List, meaning any assets they hold in the US are frozen and Americans are "generally prohibited" from doing business with them.
Furthermore, the EDD is denied export licences and excluded from the American financial system.
Washington also blacklisted an additional 33 people and entities associated with Russian military and intelligence.
What US law governs the sanctions on China?
The Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (Caatsa) was passed in 2017 to provide the Trump Administration with the necessary means to target Russia, Iran and North Korea with economic and political sanctions. There is no US laws in existence which allow sanctions on China.
US President Donald Trump issued an executive order on Thursday intended to allow the sanctions to be implemented.
"The ultimate target of these sanctions is Russia," a senior administration official told journalists.
"Caatsa sanctions in this context are not intended to undermine the defence capabilities of any particular country" but are "aimed at imposing costs on Russia in response to its malign activities".
Similar action against other countries would be considered, Washington added.
How has Russia reacted?
How has Russia reacted?
ReplyDeleteReferring to the Western sanctions, President Putin said:
"These actions are harmful for everyone, both for those who initiate them and for those against whom they are directed.
"Everybody has an interest in getting the sanctions lifted, us too," he added.
Mr Putin said Russia had overcome all difficulties caused by the sanctions.
Moscow has hit back with counter-sanctions on food and raw materials.
How has China reacted?
So far there is no response from China yet. I believe China will deliberate on the matter and give a calculated response in due course. One option China can do is to place sanctions on the exports of Rare Earth minerals to the US and US Allies.
Wah seh. So complicated.

ReplyDeleteThe old man wanted total control of the media, but he did not foresee the internet and social media eclipsing the influence of the PAP controlled MSM.
ReplyDeleteMany years ago people were sceptical about the influence of the internet and social media because not many older folks had handphones and not all households had internet. Now, with all the channels available for alternative news, they are getting worried that feeding one sided news and repeating propaganda just put people off and cannot work anymore.
Facebook, twitter and google among others are saying that it is against policy to censor comments on information, whether true or false. So, what will they do, talking so much about wanting a smart city?
Did North Korea shut down all internet? If so shut down all internet like North Korea? Everyday free, Hentataki Jiak Pa Jiak Lan? Next generation become prostitutes and maid? Thanks old leader? ReplyDeleteBy-Election For Anwar To Become Next Malaysian PM
ReplyDeleteIt has been announced on Friday that former DPM Anwar Ibrahim will be the candidate of a By-Election for a Parliamentary seat.
Anwar (71) would contest the seat in the Lower House of Parliament for Port Dickson as the candidate of his People's Justice Party (PKR) and the ruling coalition of Pakatan Harapan.
The seat was vacant following the resignation of a Parliamentarian to trigger a By-Election to allow Anwar to return to the Parliament.
Becoming a member of Parliament will pave the way for Anwar to succeed Dr Mahathir (93) to become Malaysia's 8th Prime Minister - as part of the agreement that led the Pakatan Harapan coalition to a historic victory in the May 9 General Election.
Anwar, who was granted a royal pardon on his sodomy conviction after the election, has won the Presidency of his PKR party unchallenged.
The Election Commission said the By-Election would be held on 13 Oct 2018.
Ong Ye Kong said the next PM would be picked soon. This is like the GE in Thailand. It is going to happen in the next few months. After the few months have passed they would say it is going to happen in the next few months and on and on and nothing would happen.
ReplyDeleteThe GE in Thailand has been postponed and delayed in this manner for several years to keep the military junta in power.
How long more and how many more few months before a new PM elect would be picked or not at all?
Whether which PAP Totally No Ability own Kaki become PM also no changes to the Sufferings of the Sinkies.
ReplyDeleteNon Essential Wayang.
Most IMPORTANTLY, change of Ruling Government is a Essential Affair.
See the What's COI reported of their MOH lack lustre and sloppy safeguard of all Patient's Personal Data.
Fat Man Gan just simply apologised and PAPies famous excuse.
We do Better Next Time.
How many times they saying this???
Our sad state of affairs:
ReplyDeleteInstead taking care of citizens taking care of Party n themselves, their hold to power n lots of money using new citizens n FTs as political pawns.
Ong Ye Kong said got parkay or not? After that another one will say. Then another and another. All fake news lah!
ReplyDeleteThum Ping Tjin is going to be burnt on the stake because they called him a liar.
ReplyDeleteThe Singapore Inquisition has began.
What do you think?
Thum got balls, got brains and got passion for Sinkies.
ReplyDeleteLovers of money vs A lover of truth.
ReplyDeleteHere we go again. Using Thum as an excuse, they are resorting to slaughtering the chicken to teach the monkey. And what is the agenda? New laws to tighten unfavourable comments of course. They already tried changing the law to regulate blogs by requiring registration of blogs that carry newsworthy items some time back. That did not work, so this is the backup plan.
ReplyDeleteEvery time they want to tighten the law or rules, they will wait for a little opportunity to arise, and bang they will change the law. The sale and consumption of alcohol law was changed because of a drunk Indian. Election laws were changed left, right and centre on the pretext of enabling minority representation in Parliament. CPF rules were changed just because of some, or maybe just one, elderly going to Batam to gamble. And all the other fucked up excuses.
We honestly need more opposition in Parliament. But we are realistically too little too late for that.
Better late than never. Still got 3mln true blue Sinkies to be replaced.
ReplyDelete...in order to continue their hypocrisy and deception on the masses to satisfy lusts of big easy money & power among themselves.
ReplyDeleteWhat happened to those supposed religious men & women among them?
Don't they know "What does it profit a man if he gains the whole world but loses his soul?"
Why hardened hearts to do this evil to your fellow men whom you are supposed to care?
When a bread-winner cannot bring sufficient to his family, many issues of poverty & lack spiral in.
The structure of State Capitalism means monopoly of businesses. State capitalism obvious negative fundamentals are inefficient n unproductive allocation of capital, labor & resources. State capitalism together with power to legally ownself pay ownself makes structure even more flawed.
