Mahathir – Malays are lazy, untrustworthy….

Mahathir has finally lashed out at the Malays for being lazy, untrustworthy, poor work attitude, unwillingness to work hard and many other things. And I quote this from him as reported in thenewpaper, ‘We accuse others. We accuse the government, accuse other races. When we fail, they are at fault. We are never wrong.’

What Mahathir refused to admit is that all the faults and problems of the Malays in Malaysia is his fault. And he is blaming the Malays for it. Not his undoing. During his reign of terror, he made 3 very damaging and irreparable policies that led to the Malays being what they are today, to be scolded by him as lazy and untrustworthy.

His first major blunder was to tell the Malays that they are the owners of the land and can take everything from the other races. There is no need to work, just take. His 30% bumiputra ownership meant that the Malays simply took from the others what others had worked for, struggled to achieve. This was clearly reflected in Robert Kuok’s book when he related how Abdul Razak called him up and told him to hand over 30% of his company to the Malays. But that was not the end, not just 30%. After taking 30%, they simply sold them to the non Malays for immediate cash. And the subsequent years Razak would go to Robert Kuok for another 30% as the earlier 30% was sold to the non bumis and the cycle goes on and on.

Now Mahathir is telling the Malays to work hard to earn his keep. What for, so many Malays have become billionaires and millionaires without having to work, just take. Why would they want to work hard, to change their attitude when the easiest thing to get rich is to take and not by working? This is the tragedy of the Malays under Mahathir’s promise to making them rich without working.

His second major wrong doing was to blame the non Malays, especially the Chinese, for the economic plight of the Malays. This racist policy continues today when the Malays feel so free to wave the kris whenever they like threatening another May 13. Racism and Malay superiority, Ketuanan Melayu, has been entrenched in the Malaysian Constitution and psyche and would not go away for several generations to come, or forever. This Ketuanan Melayu doctrine is the foundation of the 30% take and the control of everything in the country for the Malays. This is Mahathir’s so called for the good of the Malays, to protect the Malay interests, Malays should own everything in Malaysia without having to work for it. Today he is asking them to work hard, to be like the Japanese!

His most damaging policy was to push for the use of the Malay language in everything, from administration, commerce and education. Mahathir had promoted the use of Malay against the use of other languages, especially the English Language that today, most of the younger Malays could hardly read and write English.
What are the consequences of this policy? Look at India, despite all the Indian pride, they have chosen to embrace English as their language of govt and commerce. And the Indians are now swimming like fish in the world where English is the lingua franca and excelling in science, technology and IT and also the academia. The door to the English language world is closed to the Malays for good, after 5 decades of promoting Malays at the expense of English. Any country that wants to chase the world of science and technology cannot do without mastering English. The Chinese and the Japanese are also embarking on big scale learning of the English language. Why? They know that English is an important international and scientific language and not knowing English would put them at a big disadvantage.

Mahathir, in his blinded rage and zeal to endear to the Malays, chose to discard the English language and Malaysia and the Malays are paying a very heavy price for his folly today.

Mahathir should not simply blame the Malays for his wrong doings. His NEP is in ruins. If he had charted the course of Malaysia with a bid of wisdom instead of racial pride, Malaysia and the Malays would not have fallen back so far behind. Mahathir has held back the progress of the Malays in Malaysia by 50 years. He is regretting as he is seeing the result of his failed policies. But as usual, it is not his fault but the fault of the Malays. Luckily he is not blaming the non Malays for this.

His war cry for the Malays, the superiority of the Malays, for the good of the Malays etc etc, has led to the Malays in Malaysia living on crutches, feeding off from the other races, happily, without having to work for it. His latest craze, fluttering between Tokyo and Beijing, begging for aids and free money and technology, is a reflection of his inability to know himself and his shortfalls, a dependence mentality, wanting everything for free without having to work for it, but not knowing it himself. He thinks the world owes him a living. Does he really believe China or any country owes Malaysia an obligation to build everything for free? Does he think Malaysia can go to the world to ask and to take 30% for free?

Who do you think should be blamed for the state of affairs in Malaysia today? The Malays or Mahathir?

PS. Mahathir is a typical politician shouting ‘it is good for you, good for the country’, but destroying the people and country in what he is doing. Do not trust any politician that claimed he is doing it for you and your country, for your own good. Judge them by what they did and the results of their actions. Are the results favourable to you and country or to the contrary.

Singaporeans do not have a Mahathir but still the same, or worst?

Mahathir has three wrong policies. Singapore has how many wrong policies?

  3. Singapore Leaders also same same shouted for your own good, for your own good but yet screwed you.

Grace disgraceful can said that the NCMPs provided healthy debates but their appointed and sieved ones are on their side.

What's bullshits Healthy debate when they have one half farked duck saying that the CPF's monies is not your monies.

In Matland, previously those who wanted to stat in Power always played the Malay Race Card as they are the majority to win their votes.

That's why their policies are geared to their benefits. Now after Anwar's saga and Najib's scandals, the Religious PAS, the Malays are divided into many camps.

So, now Mahathir cannot really played fully the Race Card. He knew that the Malays can even abandoned UMNO and the Chinese and Indiana are the King Makers.

That's why now he is telling them to bucek up.

In years to come, it may be even more livable to live in Matland, oops No more Matland but Malaysia as in Singapore which is becoming an Indian State and with other miniorties shiting on Sinkies.

You are damned for your choice and reap what's you sowed.

  5. Dr Mathathir should ask himself the most obvious question everyone is avoiding to ask:

How come the Malays in Singapore do SO MUCH BETTER than many of the Malay majority in Malaysia?

If you give a special interest group welfare program after welfare program, you trap these people. Dr M is always complaining at how "successful/ greedy/ [pick your back-handed compliment/ insult]" the "Cheena" community is, and how that (for some made-up reason) Malays are "better than" the Cheena, the Keling, the Gragoks...yet all the latter have to "sacrifice" so that the May-Lay can "move ahead".

With all the welfare help, for decades...say 50+ years, the May-Lay culture hasn't advanced as much as the Singaporean Malays.

Dr M hits out at the May-Lays, when clearly it is policy from people like him that fucked them up even more. Sorry Dr M, not cool lah. Why you don't tekam UMNO too? They are evil cunts.

Dr M was once asked about bumiputraism. His reply was that the Malays lacked the business acumen of the Chinese and the Malays should be given a headstart. But if it is Koran competition, then the Malays are fine. In hindsight, Dr M might have regretted giving the Malays a crutch. Accusing the Malays of lacking diligence and trustworthiness is a reflection of his bad policies.

  10. First, we have to be fair. Mahathir was not the first Prime Minister of Malaysia. He had three predecessors - Tunku Abdul Rahman, Tun Abdul Razak Hussein and Hussein Onn (not counting Tun Ismail). The pro-Bumiputras NEP (New Economic Plan) was mooted in 1970, because of the racial riot on 13 May, 1969 by the 2nd PM Tun Razak and implemented from 1971 onwards. It continued under the leadership of the 3rd PM Hussein Onn.

When Mahathir took over as the 4th PM in July 1981, he had no choice but to continue with the use of the NEP in order to gain the Malay votes.

Mahathir swiched from a Malay Malaysia to a Malaysian Malaysia platform in the last General Election. That's why he won. He copied the slogan of Malaysian Malaysia from LKY.

LKY's idea of a Malaysia Malaysia was 60 years too early. The political climate then (1963-1965) was not ready for a Malaysian Malaysia. That was the reason why LKY had failed miserably. That's the reason why Singapore was kicked out of Malaysia in 1965.

After having been kicked out of Malaysia, Singapore also adopted Malay as Bahasa Kebangsaan (National Language), and similarly following Malaysia's Bumiputra Policy, the Malays in Singapore were also given special privileges, until today. This is Singapore's first "Bumiputra" Policy. It aims to make the Malays happy to support the "Independence" of Singapore and the rule of the PAP. As a result, it also created a crutch mentality among the Malays (as reflected in the behaviour of the Malay Ministers).

Singapore has a second "Bumiputra" Policy. It is the SAP (Special Assistance Plan) that ensure top 10% of PSLE Students are given special treatment in Special Schools with special findings. This has created a special elite group that resulted in a class divide based on academic performance into three categories - scholars, wranglers and farmers. The wranglers are selected based on their experience on the ground. This group (10%) help the scholars (3%) to control the farmers (50%). There is a 4th class, the remaining 37% called the pariahs and a 5th group called foreign talons (imported immigrants of new citizens and permanent residents). So much so, today Singapore is just like India with the 5 caste systems.

Singapore also has a third "Bumiputra" Policy. It is the policy of making millionaires out of each and every Minister. The name of this policy initially was not so clear. But today we know that it is called the Natural Aristocracy Policy, openly declared by none other than the PM LHL himself. That is not all. It does not stop there.

There exists also a fourth "Bumiputra" Policy, which is commonly known as the White Horse Scheme. This scheme is to provide special privileges and protection to the children of Ministers and Top Civil Servants.

Now, compare with Malaysia's one Bumiputra Policy called the NEP, Singapore has not one but four "Bumiputra" Policies.

    1. Excellent comment. Respect. I agree that redbean has written a very narrow and unfair critique of Tun. It is very important to note that because the Malays "do not have business acumen" (Tun said this himself and no one ever challenged it), therefore if Bumi policy didn't take place in the 70s, the Malays would lag seriously behind others in their own Land in the new millennia. So RB is merely hallucinting when he postulated that Tun's policy encouraged the Malay to be even lazier. The reality is that it makes no difference, DO NOT BLAME TUN FOR THE MALAY DILEMMA.
However, I disagree your view that "it also created a crutch mentality among the Malays (as reflected in the behaviour of the Malay Ministers).". We know very well, all the Chinese and Indian pap ministers are also on crutches controlled by the mother (father?) of all problems in Singapore.

  11. This was published by The Straits Times on 4 Aug 2017:

    Pro-Bumiputera Policy Tough To Scrap

Malaysia introduced its affirmative action New Economic Policy (NEP) in 1971 after deadly race riots in 1969, with then Prime Minister Abdul Razak Hussein saying the policy would end in 1990.

The policy was geared towards eliminating poverty and socio-economic restructuring by increasing the wealth of the bumiputera, the poorest demographic. The economic gap between the politically dominant Malays and the Chinese fuelled anger over the ruling Umno's losses, leading to the riots.

But today, 27 years after 1990, no end is in sight for the policy. Worse, the NEP has led to a sense of entitlement among many Malays and their leaders.

By many measurements, the NEP has been a success four decades after the plan was unveiled by Tun Abdul Razak, the father of current Prime Minister Najib Razak.

The government claims to have eradicated poverty and the bumiputera share of the economy has multiplied tenfold even by the most conservative estimates, and the Malay middle class had grown rapidly and is surefooted.

The bumiputera (sons of the soil) consist of the Malays, indigenous Orang Asli and dozens of native tribes in Sabah and Sarawak.

Under the NEP, the bumiputera are given a generous quota to enter public universities, enjoy cheaper housing and get many government facilities to help them in business such as low-cost loans.

Key thrusts of KL's affirmative action policy:

    CORPORATE EQUITY

•Companies listing on the stock exchange were previously required to have the bumiputera owning at least a 30 per cent share. Now only half of a firm's public share offering needs to be reserved for the bumiputera, who can sell their shares after listing.

•Quotas and preferences for bumiputera companies in government tenders.

•Ease of access to financing under various grants and credit schemes.

    EDUCATION

Some 55 per cent of places at public universities were reserved for the bumiputera until 2002, when a more merit- based system was introduced. No official quota has been made public for Public Service Department scholarships, but a ratio of 90:10 in favour of the bumiputera has been reported. This was adjusted to 55:45 after 2008.

The government also funds bumiputera-only institutes of higher education and scholarship programmes.

    PROPERTY

A housing development must set aside at least 30 per cent of its property units for bumiputera buyers, who are given a minimum 5 per cent discount on the purchase price. This was implemented in the 1980s but as each state can adopt its own land policy, the number of reserved units can reach 70 per cent, while discounts have been as high as 15 per cent.

    PUBLIC SERVICE

No formal quota exists for hiring, but a ratio of four bumiputera staff to one non-bumiputera exists for top officers in the home, foreign and police services, and a 3:1 ratio in judicial and legal services. A Cabinet minister in 2006 acknowledged a 10:2:1 ratio of bumiputera, Chinese and Indian intake for public service, an unofficial policy that was known to exist for decades.
    (continues)

  12. Pro-Bumiputera Policy Tough To Scrap part 2

But even now, Malaysian Chinese continue to enjoy better salaries and more personal wealth, even if the gap has narrowed.

To its critics, the NEP has been hijacked today by well-connected Malay politicians and their friends to enrich themselves.

Centre for Policy Initiatives chief executive Lim Teck Ghee - whose 2006 paper claimed bumiputera corporate equity had far surpassed the NEP's 30 per cent target - told The Straits Times that the "Chinese bogeyman" is trotted out so that the "gravy train" for Umno's political elite "keeps chugging along".

The government itself admitted that by 2005, the bumiputera had sold off RM52 billion of the RM54 billion worth of shares reserved for them by public-listed companies, instead of reaping the longer-term rewards of capital.

The call for the NEP to be abandoned, or at least tweaked, to ensure that the poor of all ethnicities are helped has fallen on deaf ears in the corridors of power.

In fact, even state-funded Khazanah Research Institute (KRI) found last October that Malaysian Indians - not Malays or the other bumiputera races - had the worst upward mobility.

It also showed a gender gap - sons are 3.6 times more upwardly mobile than daughters, who were also thrice as likely to do worse than their parents.

"There are clear signs that there needs to be greater education access in rural areas. You can help people whether it is race-based, needs-based, by gender and the urban-rural divide," KRI managing director Charon Mokhzani told ST.

Dr Muhammed Abdul Khalid, the lead researcher for the KRI study, told ST that "a needs-based affirmative action is not a replacement. They complement. It is not just who you help, but how you help as well".

While having the NEP around forever might sound good, the "subsidy mentality" could have the opposite effect of weakening bumiputera self-resolve to climb without crutches.

Dr Johan Saravanamuttu of the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies, who co-edited a 2013 book on the NEP, said: "Malays are not being equipped with sustainable tools to bridge the gap with the Chinese."

Then again, there is another important dimension in the NEP debate. The reality is that abolishing the pro-bumiputera policy is politically impossible, as many Umno leaders and many Malays still feel they need the NEP.

Former prime ministers, as well as Datuk Seri Najib, could talk about tweaking the policy but not deleting it.

Mr Najib, at last year's Umno general assembly, went a step further. He warned the Malays that if Umno lost power, various pro-Malay and Islamic bodies would be dismantled by the opposition.

    The Straits Times - 4 August, 2017.

  14. What are the failed policies in Singapore?

    1. Family Planning - Two Is Enough. Of course, one can give the excuse that at that point in time, because of unemployment and bla bla bla, you need to force citizens not to produce "too many" babies. Actually, the REAL REASON was to curtail the growth rate of the Malays because of the fear that one day the Malays will be more than the Chinese, thereby giving them a majority power to rule Singapore or to fight for the rejoining of Singapore with Malaysia. With the crazy relentless import of foreigners during the last 25 years, it proves that the Family Planning Policy/Scheme was a tactical success but a strategic failure big!

    2. Retirement Savings Policy (CPF Savings Scheme) - to enable Singaporeans to retire at 55 years old gracefully and enjoy their golden years. What has happened to their CPF Savings? Today, there are so many schemes within the CPF Scheme that deplete and siphone off the hard-earned sweat, blood and tears money supposedly to be saved and safe and grow under the RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CPF BOARD OF DIRECTORS!

Today, how many Singaporeans can retire gracefully to enjoy their golden years, other than the Multi-Millionaire Ministers and Top Civil Servants and their families? Not even 30%. Failed!

    3. Home Ownership Policy - Affordable Housing. Failed!

    4. Asset Enhancements Scheme - controversial. Failed.

    5. Education Policy. Failed miserably until the graduates become square pecks in round holes, unable to fit into the job markets. Need foreign talents to replace them so that they can go and become taxi drivers or as :-Odrivers in the Parliament.

    6. Social Safety Net. Failed. The increasing number of oldies committing suicide is the proof.

    7. Economic Restructuring Policy. To move towards Service Industry and Information Technology. Failed.

    8. Many more....

  18. Towards A Lawless World

The International Criminal Court has defied the US threat, saying it will "continue to do its work undeterred", after the vicious swaggering attack on it by the US National Security Adviser, the most hawkish John Bolton.

John Bolton has threatened ICC over possible investigation of US personnel in Afghanistan

Court adviser Professor McCormack says court might not survive a determined US attack.

McCormack says best argument for the ICC is 45 years of "dictators and despots" post-WWII.

But Bolton's threats against the court have a top Australian advisor to the ICC reluctantly questioning whether the bold experiment in justice for war crimes can survive.

Professor Tim McCormack is special advisor on war crimes to the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court and a passionate advocate for International Justice, having also advised on the prosecution of former Serbian president Slobodan Milosevic.

"I can't put my hand on my heart and say I'm absolutely confident that it will survive the next turbulent phase of its history," said Professor McCormack.

The trigger for the hawkish John Bolton's rage against the ICC that he has always opposed was the possibility that ICC will investigate the activities of US military personnel in Afghanistan.

"The United States will use any means necessary to protect our citizens and those of our allies from unjust prosecution by this illegitimate court," Bolton said.

He also threatened to bar ICC personnel from entering the US, freeze any assets they hold in the US, and prosecute them in the US court system.

Professor McCormack says such measures could jeopardise the ability of US citizens to work with the ICC, though he questioned whether existing US laws would enable such prosecutions.

But he agrees that it is possible such a determined US attack could be the nail in the coffin for the court, which has been labelled colonial for a particular focus on African situations.

"I guess it could be, it depends how things play out," he said.

"The irony of what John Bolton has said is that the ICC Prosecutor … under intense pressure to go beyond African situations, has applied for authority to open a criminal investigation in Afghanistan, she's trying to move beyond the African context and is now being absolutely hammered for that."

Professor McCormack says it is a great shame that the US is not a party to the court, especially given America's historic role after World War II in matters such as the Nuremberg Trials prosecuting Nazi figures.

"Certainly the prevailing view in the US is that international law exists for the rest of the world and not the United States, that's for everyone else to comply with," Professor McCormack said.

In a statement responding to Bolton's attack, The Hague-based court defended its independence and impartiality, with the backing of 123 nations.

"The ICC, as a court of law, will continue to do its work undeterred, in accordance with those principles and the overarching idea of the rule of law," the statement said.

Professor McCormack says the best argument for the ICC can be found in the 45 years since the war crimes trials at Nuremberg and Tokyo, until the Yugoslav Tribunal was created by the security council in 1993.

"That period of time was characterised by a litany of dictators and despots who should have been held to criminal account and were not," Professor McCormack said.

"Individuals who should have been held to account were able to act with impunity.

"So although the ICC has weaknesses and limitations, I still think we are better off as an international community to have it, than not to have it."

Democracy icon uses Hong Kong speech to confirm he will stand in a by-election that will pave the way for him to succeed Mahathir Mohamad as Malaysian prime minister

Anwar Ibrahim is tipped to one day take over from Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad.

Malaysia’s ties with China, Japan and South Korea are its top diplomatic priorities, the country’s democracy icon Anwar Ibrahim told investors in Hong Kong on Tuesday, as he hailed the direction the country was headed in under his “new comradeship” with nemesis-turned-ally Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad.

Speaking at the CLSA Investors’ Forum, the 71-year-old politician confirmed Malaysian media reports that he was about to stand in a by-election – a move that will see him return to active politics and prepare to succeed Mahathir, 93, as prime minister.

Anwar used his nearly 80-minute appearance to underline assurances from the country’s new government that it is open to business from the Chinese mainland even as big-ticket Beijing-linked infrastructure projects are cancelled.
