High Commissioner defends Singapore’s Elected President system

V Gopalan Menon, Singapore’s High Commissioner in KL, issued a rebuttal to Utusan Melayu’s false allegations about the reserved EP for the Malay community. Menon clarified that the President is elected with popular mandate, plays a key role in nation building, ensuring good governance, acts as a custodian to the nation’s reserves and also is a protector of the integrity of its public service.

Menon went on to praise the achievements of the Malay community and the progress they have made under a rules based and meritocratic system. He went on to say this, “It is incorrect to say that non Malays in Singapore have been given ‘priority and advantages’. We certainly do not have a race based system of benefits and patronage. Singapore will not tolerate the use of race or religion to promote ill will between different segments of Singapore society, or to undermine our institutions.”

Would Menon want to rephrase his statement about ‘race based system of benefits and patronage with the change in the constitution that reserved elections for minority races based on their race? With the reserved EP only for Malays in the next EP, we do now have a race based system of benefits and patronage. No? Would the Malay race still feel as proud of their achievements without crutches now that a reserved EP is created for them to be elected based on their race? Meritocratic?

Anyone think this reserved EP is like giving the minority races a crutch that would lead to a crutch mentality in them? LKY and his peers were unyielding and firm about not providing a crutch to any groups, and not to create a crutch mentality. Nowadays no one seems to be defending this position.

What do you think?

How can an ambassador embarrass himself and our country like that?

What century is he living in? He thinks people are stupid? Or, he is outdated? Enjoying life as an ambassador in high society using taxpayers money and forgot to update himself with so much changes that have been going on?

That is the trouble with paying such people sky-high, or outer-space high, salaries and bonuses. Sinkies are getting shocks after shocks. Yet still cannot wake up.

The 70% idiots are to blame. Not him and people like him.

  2. The whole EP saga orchestrated by Long Gor go against the principle of 'regardless of race, language or religion ' set by the Pioneers generation of the Govt. Under the revised EP, the Spore pledge of reciting"...regardless of race..." no longer stands..nope, not anymore...it should be read as " ..regardless of language or religion..."..the race part will be omitted in the future to make way for a reserved EPm ( elected Prime Minionster)..

  3. "rules based and meritocratic system"

    Call a spade a spade.

"rules based" but the rules are changed frequently, the goal posts shifted

"meritocratic system" but the next presidency is reserved, and other qualified candidates banned from participation, depriving the voters of choice for the best

This is to be expected, tio bo?

Isn't he being paid, and paid very well, to do so, u tell me lah?

So that being the case, Sinkies should not take it too seriously when higher commissioners or even ministers utter such statements.

If Sinkies are daft enough to be unhappy with such statements from such people, they should blame the 70% for electing them to be the govt, and who in turn appointed high commissioners who will of course speak for the govt.

  7. Smart Sinkies will take care of themselves by making lots of money and have a good life in Sinkieland.

And having achieve that, why would they care whether Halimah or Tan Cheng Bock is the President? Or what type of system to elect the President?

Why would they care whether the opposition is ready or not to be govt?

And since they have jobs and can make money, why would they care about PAP policy of NS for Sinkies and jobs for foreigners?

And so on and so forth.

  8. The Bumis in Malaysia should be very happy now their own kind are given special priority.

Previously, they claimed that their own are been marglinised in Singapore. DONT understands why they care so much for their own kind when.their own kind in all other countries don't even care a damn for them.

They must follow the yhinking of the Chinese. One own kind eliminated. Oh, good, one less competitor for been in queue for the Wealth and riches.

In Sinkieland, the minorities are specially taken care off having the life of the majority whereas the majority living as the minority.

And yet they still gong gong, the Majority having what's metrocrazy ideals.

Better live the life of a well to do minority in Matland than be a slave in what's your nightmare majority in SINKIE land.

  9. Seriously for Sinkies, why should it be an issue at all if Halimah is President?

Whether Sinkies are poor or rich, would they get poorer or richer if Halimah is President?

So what if Tan Cheng Bock is the President given that PAP is the govt? What can Tan Cheng Bock do for Sinkies as President?

And let's be blunt. If Tan Cheng Bock is really serious about serving and improving things for Sinkies, he should form a political party and be ready to take over the PAP as a better govt after elections, and not fight to contest the Presidency.

So where it really matters, it is in fact a non issue if PAP wants to stop Tan Cheng Bock from being elected president. There is no loss or gain for Sinkies.

      What can Tan Cheng Bock
      do as a president?
      Zilch.
      So, why is he fighting
      to be a president elect?

Can Tan Cheng Bock be kind to tell Sinkies the things he will do if he becomes president?
lf he impresses me in wanting to improve the live of Sinkies and that he shall pursue the Cause at any price, l shall volunteer myself to his command.

  12. Reserve a seat. Reserve a seat to eat lunch. Reserve a seat to be president. Reserve a seat to be PM. These are common legitimate legal constitutional practice.
Why you reserve a seat at Macdonna. Old men ah long would say lim pek suka.
There are reserve a seat for army gen, scholarship member to be ministar, transport company head, stat board head, housing head, airline head etc. The entire Sinkieland is run army navy generals. Hv a look at the line up at one site called datok something.
Now the President down all are pap member and army generals and scholarship holders positions.
There is division. President must be Malay. The Malay community should be happy. They should demand PM must be Malay to have better work done. This should be akandatang.

The show will start when Sinkieland is severely weaken by financial crisis: when S$ drop suddenly due to banks screw up or developers bankrupts, or terrorists attack and persists.

The reserve seat principle is the second Split off after the Foreign talent Split off policy. Sinkieland first learned their income from Jobs are given priority to employment pass "talents". Then they learned it was a real "rip off". Their jobs were cheated by employers hiring talent cheaters faking degrees, masters printed from street printers. This foreign talent policy rip off was huge. Sales woman asked to take over mrt. Sales man was asked to take charge of airline little tiger. More needed not to recall. Foreign talent rip off cheating is on going and never stop because these head counts are needed to get jobs to buy condos, landed properties to fill up the gaps. Real or fake talents are still talents to ah long. Sinkiesland is split into 2 population each has 3 millions now.

The second Split off is at beginning. One race must be president race. It will be natural for the impatient to demand the PM job to be reserve by the same race or another minority race. How they want to do it is imaginable with some common sense in every body s mind.

Sinkieland is splitting by policies. There are people still sing old songs that Sinkieland is not a race based selection system, not a priority fast track for army general system, not a helicopter lifting system for politically correct scholarship holders.

Do not pretend the forces against unequal practices never existed. When the time is at chaos, it is probably beyond a simple shout to control it. The risk from these split and split policies will be beyond recovery if voters continue to vote for ah long to continue the reserve policy. Voters are helping one single man s insecurity similar to helping one late old man to rule this place. The price the voters paying now is the karma the parents pass to their children: struggling to pay for the cost without properly taken care on income for citizens.

Their children are asked to do NS to bring in resistance for employers. Many seats in public/semi public sectors are reserved seats.
Citizens children pay for the karma of their parents voting habit. Do they deserve to suffer? Voters/ parents create their own sin, children pay for life time. Are parents addicted to vote for someone?

The PAP race (70%) and the non-PAP race (30%).

  18. The PAP is cunning enough to curry favour with certain quarters of their loyalists with special treatments and benefits.

Private sectors are the Ones bringing in the Bread and they are giving the benefits to their chiak liao bee silly serpents.

What's special one day off on top of their three hours work day five day week.

Quarterly bonus even in bad times.

They knew which sectors for their support base of guaranteed votes. Most silly serpents are from the minority base as they loved the rub off power of their Masters to have powera over you.

Later, the beholden newly minted citIzens also will formed the support base.

As for Nationak SLavery, those privileged ones do not really share the burdens of the yoke. There are ways for them to be said serving but actually they are not.

All sorts of exemptions are been granted to them.Whereas the Dafts still believed that they are impartial and meritocratic.

All these going ons are blind to the Dafts who still think highly of them.

  22. RB;1:24pm.

RB analogized the "Reserve by race pe system" as cancer is most appropriate.

The cell has planted. The entire body cannot remove it. To remove by chemo,it will damage to other parts. The cancer cell will spread through time. non stop.

If next term is his honorable s last, no new man taking over would have the power to reset back to the old way: electing by popularity.

The entire PE system will be eye sore to modern voters and outsiders.

OBOR post is informative. Sinkieland s hope to be financial hub will be weakened. Being "ally to US" repel chinese firms.

HKSB is setting up HQ at KL. It seems China s projects should be the expectations. Businesses will flow through HK and to KL not Sinkieland.
The timing to tear aparts Sinkies unity by implementing "race system" is a further blow to Sinkieland s image. It is worrying trend line to common men.

Sinkieland s future is decided by the external markets, not by its millionaires manipulation. Patriot was right: future sees darkness for sinkies children.

Sinkieland's future in the past was decided by the Brutal Japanese Empire and the Crafty British Empire.

Sinkieland's future for the present is being decided by the Evil US Empire.

Sinkieland's future for the future will be decided by China, India, US and Russia.
What does this mean? It means Sinkieland will be pulled apart or ripped apart into two or three pieces.

Sinkieland's children will see a very interesting future. The daft will die of starvation and wantonness. The cleaver will survive. Survival of the FITTEST will be the rule of this concrete jungle: -

"From each his best, by each his own

Today and for the Future, the Young Sinkies suffer. Many are delivering foods on bicycle, motorised skatescooter and motorcycle. Even then, they have to vie with Malaysians doing similar delivery.
THE SIN GOVERNMENT ALLOWS THE MALAYSIANS TO COMPETE EVEN IN SUCH A LOW PAYING JOB.
Wonder if other aliens other than Malaysians are also doing it?
l know that there are PRC, Malaysian selling tissue and other items and even begging.

  28. Maybe good idea to have malay as ep. One important role of ep is to encourage donations for charities. There are many rich arabs and muslims in singapore, it is time for them to do their part. Also have to make them happy so they will not pull out their investments. Arabs funds have deep pockets.
