There have been many guesses as to how much Hsien Yang paid Hsien Loong
for the property at 38 Oxley Road. All that was known was that he paid
at market price plus 50% or 150% of the market value of the property of
about 12,000 sq ft. Some have made an estimate of $2,000 per sq ft for
the land or approximately $24m. This is how the $24m number is being
tossed around.
Why did Hsien Yang want to pay so much for this piece of property? For
all we know or read, he wanted to fulfill his father’s last wish, that
is to demolish the property when Wei Ling decided not to stay in the
house. As simple as that. Of course some people have made many other
inferences of his motive and intention, like he wants to build a multi
storey condo on it and make a big profit from this deal. Hsien Yang has
disputed this by saying he has offered to turn the property into a
memorial garden for Lee Kuan Yew.
Both Hsien Yang and Wei Ling are fighting very hard to want to grant
their father and mother their last wish, to demolish this house. This
kind of filial piety is normally immeasurable. But in this case, at
least one can put a monetary number to it as the minimum value of filial
piety. It is $24m or $36m, a handsome sum they have paid, or Hsien Yang
had paid, as a filial son.
How many people can afford or willing to pay so much money to show how
much they respect and love their parents? Filial piety does not come
cheap. It is rare that one can attach a value to it. This is the least
Hsien Yang has paid.
The price I paid for the house was simply a price I paid to ensure my father’s wishes are honoured' Lee Hsien Yang
Whatever the sum that was paid is not important. What is important here is that there are many unknowns. There are many questions Singaporeans will never find out, What goes on behind the Lee clan closed drs are for themselves to know. Singaporeans can only guess and speculate.
ReplyDeleteIt shows the Lees are very rich.
ReplyDeleteHow much that wife earns as chief of the country's sovereign wealth fund Temasek - the public wants to know but don't know as they won't reveal.
While no one will doubt the executors are genuinely responsible people, bring in the cash paid for the other son s share is valid, But the amount paid for should not be amplified. The dead man and woman should have passed down multi millions to the sons and daughter. Sons are making millions on salaries alone. The passing around bundle of cash is just figure. The figure will not make any difference to their living standard.
ReplyDeleteSo I'll sell the property knowing that i can gazette it as the head of government..no insider trading meh? On top of that if i donate the proceeds to a charity..i also can get tax deductibilty.. wah.. if I'm put in that type of position.. I also don't know what to do ... hehe

ReplyDeleteDun know who to believe. I read it was 1 dollar nia, sold as a gesture of goodwill .Luckily I never kaypoh about what I read and think I better stop reading news that confuse me.
Whatever, cannot base on monetary term to judge of filial piety.
My late farmer ah Kong left some money and a pigeon hole to my papa and papa's sibling never question on the amount of what my Ah Kong left behind or share share.
Ah Kong oso tell ah pa that the pigeon hole is call Chenghuchoo.Meaning Garmen house so belong to the State after 99 ,dun gong gong and think it's ours.
Everything belong to the state.
The only "house" that I can claim it's mine is only the house that I bought with my money and offered to him by burning upon his death. Not small never mind,no need phuakay buy big house to offer him.
Great Ah Kong ,you have foresight than many and planned well .Though bortartcheh ah Kong left with no will, but descendents though pokkai, are filial .No galo gali mean filial piety .Not how much one paid.
Oops sorry.should be" not big nevermind".
DeleteAgongkia, Knn talking nonsense again. 90% of sinkies owned their homes though for 99 years only but in that period u still owned it thought there are restrictions attached. Like car u also own 10 years mah
ReplyDeleteMost likely not such a small amount (to the lees), you should put in all tangibles n intangibles to get the ultimate sum correct. Hands-On Green Matters

ReplyDeleteActually in the First Will, LKY leave nothing for LHL. Wah piang, Empress Dowager angry and all hell broke loose. So, no choice got to give LHL a share.
LHY and LWL stated that they do not mind. But relations already strained. So, LHL offered to transfer nominal fee of S$1.00 to LWL. He knew Papa loved the sister very much and stated to let her live there as long as she wants. On the other hand, Empress Dowager not happy.
So, got to transfer or "sell" to LHY at market value and 50% ON TOP OF THAT VALUE. Then donated half to Charity. You calculate still got make monies or not???
That's when LWL posted of her unfilial son gripes and a Monkey with a middle Finger posted to point at her.
Then, in One Ingenious Stroke, LHL have a what's Committee to take back all. Big Nose rejected what Memorial Garden.
They wanted to gazette it as Heritage Asset and have the Icon to remind Sinkies to be beholden to the PAPA, oops PAP forever.
At same time, LHL's son is coming home to be groomed to be the future PM. See thousands and thousands of sentimental creatures bowing and crying at LKY's funeral.
Thousands more braved the rains and crying on the roads bidding him goodbye.
So, when LHL's son stands for election, simply cry he is LKY's grandson. Sure Walk Over and Game Over.
So, in the end, LHL wins ALL.
How many people can afford or willing to pay so much money to show how much they respect and love their parents?
ReplyDeleteRB
Hahahahaha.
That also depends on how much money and assets their parents had left behind for them lah.
If my parents left behind $500m or even $1b for me, what is 24, 36 or even 50 million, u tell me lah?
The question about the price for Filial Piety is good. Hsien Yang has not only paid $36 million to her dishonourable brother.
ReplyDeleteHsien Yang is also paying for many other things
(1) Having to get his family out of Singapore,
(2) Having to dispense off with his present job,
(3) Having to get disconnected from his close friends and associates,
(4) Having to wage a continuous "war" against his unfilial dishonourable despicable brother until his father's will is fully and unconditionally fulfilled.
(5) Having to set up a new home somewhere else, in another country - may be Hongkong, Shanghai, Beijing or Taipeh; or Sydney.
Over and above all the above, he is not suffering alone.
(6) His wife, Suet Fern (daughter of Professor Lim Chong Yah) has been dragged into it by his dishonorable brother and his cunning slippery sister-in-law, the Jinx of Sinkieland. His children are also disrupted in jobs, friends, connections, etc.

ReplyDeleteThis is a frog in the well view. I challenge it. Let it happen that a google intern sin scholar takes over this half real native citizens half PR foreigners and unreal native citizens.
It will be a sad story: restrained on water, foods expensive on import, security threatening, independence threatened. Its the son s creation of a monster, let the son eats, why not?
The son is well know anti china and chinese in china. They can do 360 degree swing. But the investments in 2 places are meant to limit sin city getting benefits from china chinese.
The malaysia south cities will be filled with chinese and deepen ports to take the containers. The high speed rails might stop at KL if the opposition beat UMNO.
The new Kwangdong Chuhai Macau and HK combined development will deepen the HK ports and limits spilled benefits in financing 1R1B businesses to sin city.
Now the son is panic. Whatever china do he sends congrads or condolence and let public know. Just last June, he was ruling out china s sovereignty on sea islands with the Japanese. Will the chinese take him as partner? Even the top are showing interest, the bottom are not too keen.
the son of the son can turn it around as google intern on scholarship? Sin voters better think harder now.
The high speed rails might stop at KL if the opposition beat UMNO.
ReplyDelete11:48 am
Hahahahaha. Not likely the opposition can beat UMNO lah.
For the simple reason that the Matland opposition, albeit stronger, is just as disunited as the Sinkie opposition. They could not even dare to agree and say publicly who will be PM if the opposition beat UMNO.
So just like the Sinkies who voted for PAP, the Mats will vote for Najib being the lesser of 2 evils. And some more Najib no need 70% votes to win, 47% can win majority seats liao lor, as shown in their 2013 GE outcome.
And this one Hsien Loong knows, just as Hsien Loong knows that PAP with him as leader will still win, even if he did not sue his siblings for defamation.
Its not filial piety. It is Greed.
ReplyDelete@ July 02, 2017 3:55 pm
ReplyDeleteYou have been trying to convert the whole of Singapore to Christianity. Won't you think that is even greater greed?
Jesus says "Judge not unto others, or else you will be judged!"

ReplyDeleteNajib does not give will hit UMNO. Anwar does not want to contest will help Muyidin. Your kind of unchanged world prediction is not applicable. Hillary was heavily bet by the dragon. She was gone and the dragon s world is weaken. China laughed at him wanting to surround the big big dragon. Terresa May said Corbyn was weak and foundering. She made Corbyn s political position much stronger.
2020GE is still far. Suppose GE to be this year as Malaysia does. So now the fate of Najib also can affect the dragon. If Najib is gone, even with UMNO, the story for dragon may not be smooth. Look at Malaysia s claims again on the rubbish rocks Branca km away facing Johor. Even mortar fire from land in Johor can hit the light easily.

ReplyDeleteProfessor Kishore Mahbubani said we will probably never again have another globally respected statesman like Mr Lee Kuan Yew, and small states should behave like small states.
Bilahari Kausikan then asked Professor Kishore Mahbubani: "What kind of people does Kishore think we are or ought to be?"
Answer: Pee Sai !
Straits Times headline screamed: Parliament debate on Oxley dispute must be robust, says Halimah.
ReplyDeleteBut lower down the front ST online page, Chee Hong Tat said allegations are baseless.
Verdict already reached before debate!
ReplyDeleteAgongkia, Sinkie 3838 or whatsoever combinations cannot go in lah.
Me prefer Daimai or PMP Malaysia. Some more got accounts with them. Just buy Nets and they transfer winnings direct to your Bank.
There, such can go in. Only whether you have the capitals to buy all the quota.
Cheers

Hence, it would have been wiser to be more circumspect on the judgment of an international tribunal on the arbitration which the Philippines instituted against China concerning the South China Sea dispute, especially since the Philippines, which was involved in the case, did not want to press it.
When I hear some of our official representatives say that we should take a “consistent and principled” stand on geopolitical issues, I am tempted to remind them that consistency and principle are important, but cannot be the only traits that define our diplomacy. No need to worry for Kishore lah. He earned enough already. Maybe he also plan to run road, just like LHY and LWL? And he is older than LHY, u know.
A faulty HDB lift from PAP Town Council plunged 4 storeys to the ground floor and injured a woman in the lift. The woman suffered a torn ligament injury as a result of the fall. A family of five who were on a Hari Raya Puasa visit were traumatised by the incident yesterday (July 2) at Block 542 Jurong West Ave 1.
ReplyDeleteThe lift almost amputated the leg of the father of the family and he was lucky to be pulled back by his brother who heard a “snap” before the lift plunged 4 levels. The impact of the lift on free fall caused the lift to submerge one-third below ground landing. The family quickly escaped after they pried open the doors.
According to the victim, the PAP MP in charge of the area, Minister Desmond Lee, was informed of a similar incident a year ago which happened to a group of boys. However, Minister Desmond Lee took no actions:
“So, before this, there was an accident happened but it was a group of boys and none were injured. This matter was brought up to the Town Council and the MP while they madher their rounds in the neighbourhood. The MP was informed about this matter upfront by the residents and even after a year, no action taken.”

"Consistent and Principled" stand?
Father Lee Kuan Yew taught you all about Pragmatism for more than 50 years. And after he is gone, you all forgot so fast? Is it too busy trying to punch above your weight? Or too busy trying to find ways to defy your Father's Last Wish?
You top scholars with First Class Honours from Cambridge, Oxbridge, Oxford, all the top Ivy League Universities in the World, with super-power brains that can remember all the model answers to get consistently A Grades, cannot remember what your Father Mentor taught you over more than 50 years of time?
Come on, please lah, Pragmatism where got "consistency" and "principles" one. Please think deeply lah. Don't just because you are paid $millions because of Lee Kuan Yew, now you totally forgot what he taught you?
Let me humbly remind you on behalf of our Honourable Father of Singapore's teaching on Pragmatism. Listen properly. Pay attention and don't fall asleep because you have been quarrelling with your wives last night as to whether to keep 38 Oxley Road House or not. Sit straight and pay attention! Good boys, yes, that's the way .....
Now, what is Pragmatism? You come to the bridge than you cross. That is pragmatism. You don't try to cross the bridge when you are still far away. And when you, bo pian has to cross that bridge, you then think of the various options how to cross. Understand so far? Not difficult, right?
For example, China and USA are at logger-heads because China is going to make sure her national interests are protected in the long-term. The USA also wants to continue her Super-Power status and do not want China to rise up and challenge her Super-Power status. So, USA will do all it can to instigate and to buy over smaller countries around the region of East and SE Asia in order to contain China and restrict or stiffle her growth. Understand, so far? Good, clever boys.
Now, ........ am I going too fast? Kee Chiu if you cannot catch up .....
(Sorry, I think I had a glass too many just now. How dare I try to teach Multi-Millionaire Mini-stars to suck eggs?)
But somehow this is the first-time I found Kiseow, oops kichio talk sense.
ReplyDeleteWe should be very restrained in commenting on matters involving great powers .
Hinting to sinkies to know their position and not kaykhiang, trying to kaypoh and offend your great brother over the disputed Oxley 38.
But Kichio, they are too simple minded to get what you mean.

ReplyDeleteLHY is filial son; of course real filial piety costs are high. Very well done!
ReplyDeleteThe SUM paid very important, very very important.
ReplyDeleteAccording to LWL & LHY joint statement: 100% of market value plus 50% more (to charity in Big Brother name) as private settlement….this one ShitTimes quiet. How much $24m, $36m, etc???....LWL or LHY should fully disclose....maybe during ERECTION time.
But property in company name; so legal transfer at $1....this one very much highlighted by main stream media.
So what are the facts?
