Diplomacy is an old art of interstate engagement to build relationship
and to improve and protect the interests of states. When diplomacy
fails, the likely outcome is war between states or strained relations.
This is something that the art of diplomacy would want to avoid so that
states can work and live with each other peacefully. The last thing in
diplomacy is Bridge Burning.
Is there a Diplomacy of Bridge Burning being practiced by the diplomats
and state officials? In the recent tense relations between Singapore and
China, ok I may be wrong as Singapore did not see it this way and
claimed that Singapore’s relation with China is as good as ever, I would
say a few cardinal sins of diplomacy were committed on the Singapore
side. Ok, please feel free to disagree with me as this is just my
perception of the events.
What were these cardinal sins? 1. Singapore demanded that China obeyed
the rulings of the Hague Tribunal on the South China Sea. 2. Singapore
demanded that China followed the rule of law. 3. Some Singapore
officials commented that China was adopting a policy to divide Asean. 4.
Some Singapore officials said China had been pressuring Singapore to be
on the side of China on some issues.
To me, these are the cardinal sins Singapore committed in this fracas
that led to a very strain relation with China. Of course I stand to be
corrected as some Singapore officials said Singapore did not do anything
or say anything to provoke China or things that would affect the
relations negatively. If this is so, then all my comments are hogwash,
even fake news.
Did Singapore say or do anything to offend China? Did Singapore know
that the above four points that I mentioned are as good as Diplomacy of
Bridge Burning? The positions taken, cannot be uttered unthinkingly as
the statements were very serious in nature, were as good as telling
China that Singapore was prepared to cut off relations with China if
needed to. And to take such a position, it would be expected that
Singapore would have thought through this very carefully and weighed the
consequences of offending China and possibly breaking all ties with
China, diplomatically, commercially, economically and culturally.
It is foolish to think that when Singapore took that position that was
openly unfriendly to China, ok, I agree to disagree with those that
thought Singapore was friendly with China and did not do anything
against China, it did not do any homework to consider the consequences.
To take such an unfriendly position, to shout so loudly, daily, to China
and for the rest of the world to hear, it must be a properly thought
out position, that Singapore was prepared to burn bridges with China. Or
maybe Singapore thought China was hapless and would not do anything to
harm its relation with Singapore as Singapore was more important to
China to lose. China would swallow the bitter pill and would keep
relations as per normal despite the utterance of Singapore.
Oops, was there an after thought, that burning bridges with China was
not a good idea after all? Or this was not even discussed or considered,
that taking that position would not lead to such an eventuality? The
subsequent flurry of activities to make amends to China, to tell China
that Singapore was a friend and is still a friend said it all, that
Singapore cannot afford to burn bridges with China. There are too much
at stake economically for Singapore to do so.
Funny, why didn’t they thought of it in the first place and avoid the
Diplomacy of Bridge Burning? When a bridge is burnt, it takes time to
rebuild a new bridge and the new bridge would not be the same again.
The big question going forward is whether Singapore would adopt another
Bridge Burning Diplomacy again in the name of national interests and
sovereignty, in the name of rule of law? From the noises heard recently,
Singapore does not regret its Bridge Burning Diplomacy and would do it
again for the same reasons, ie when Singapore’s interests are at stake,
when the rule of law affecting small states are challenged. Singapore
has strong principles and would stand on its principles come what may.
Do not triple of the Little Red Dot.
Did I get Singapore’s principled position right? Lee Kuan Yew’s time was
all about pragmatism and survival. Things must have changed.
When the top dog has no full control over his team, things sometimes will go wrong. The weaker the top, the more mistakes will be at the bottom. Looking at the silly mistakes over the past years, do you think this is coming true?
ReplyDeleteJust the reverse.
ReplyDeleteSingapore was prepared to burn bridges with China, and build more bridges with India.
ReplyDeleteLast chapter of sinking land demise just like the weakling last Emperor of china, pui yi or puki.
ReplyDeleteAll the years listened and in the underwear of the Dowager.
Just like Lau Goh whose curvy mouth wifey loved the black curry or white spurts from the blacks.
Now the present day Dowager also loved the same. They hated everything yellow forgetting that they are also yellow. Yellow bananas.
They let the Black Ants now in control. Also lost command.
Sinkieland gonna sink faster than you think with all the foreign trashes with the backing of the Traitors within.
Now the Emperor can said we won't allow outside conflicts to upset our harmony.
Too late for you had too many on your soils.
Any happening on their birth countries would spill over here as leopards or panthers would not change their colours.
I think Hsien Loong believes that if Sinkieland kena attacked, say by bigger neighbours, USA, rather than China, will come to the help to protect Sinkieland.
ReplyDeleteIn fact just the presence of US naval fleet at Changi Naval Base is already a good enough deterrent against attacks on Sinkieland, so Sinkies only need to serve NS, no need to fight and die in a real war.
So given the critical importance of such matter, if USA ask Hsien Loong to be anti-China on the SCS issue, surely Hsien Loong would have obliged, tio bo?
But then how can you expect Hsien Loong to give such reasons publicly to Sinkies as to why he is anti China?
As a result Sinkies, being ignorant of such matters of Hsien Loong, will hence see no sense why Hsien Loong wanted to be anti China.
If only they know, they would have understand Hsien Loong better on this issue, or where Hsien Loong is coming from.
Ignorant Sinkies do form wrong conclusions on certain matters, or through misunderstanding, get angry with the wrong person.
ReplyDeletehings have not changed. Lee Kuan Yew's time is still kicking and alive! Only difference now is the HIDEN ASPECTS of Lee Kuan Yew's thinking and real intention are now starting to surface. The present lot of incubator-babies, without that baptism of fire, simply do not have the political acumen to navigate critical and important issues skilfully.
ReplyDeleteRecent events, culminating with ownself said don't need to check ownself in Parliament, clearly shows the true colours of these misfits who do not deserve the world's highest salary.
It is only a matter of time something very serious will happen and it will be a point of no return - downhill all the way.
It is only a matter of time something very serious will happen...
ReplyDelete10:01 am
Can u give some examples of happenings (and which have not happened before) to tell Sinkies that something very serious had happened?
Protests or even riots on the streets? Opposition is ready to be govt? PAP being voted out?
Or something very serious has already happened? But how serious can it be when
PAP could still win a whopping 70% votes only just 2 years ago,
Chee Soon Juan could not even get close to winning a by election just over a year ago,
Hong Lim Park rally saw only 100 or so attendees just 2 weeks ago,
the roads are chokeful with cars,
public transport is still very crowded during peak hours,
supermarkets are crowded, etc etc.
'So given the critical importance of such matter, if USA ask Hsien Loong to be anti-China on the SCS issue, surely Hsien Loong would have obliged, tio bo?'
ReplyDeleteLike dat then the Americunts are compromising our national interests, dictating our foreign policies! How can? What about our principles or no principles?
In Zimbabwe, inflation is 10,000 per cent, maybe that's only an under-estimation. Yet it's President Mugabe is still in power and the streets are quite peaceful.
ReplyDeleteIn Uzbekistan, people carry money by the bag loads just to do grocery shopping but the streets are quite peaceful and prosperous looking and people also look cheerful.
So based on such yardstick, Ah Loong is relatively a very good leader and still has a long long way to go before becoming a bad leader.
How can? What about our principles or no principles?
ReplyDelete10:22 am
When survival is at stake, u still want to talk principles?
When there are Traitors being paid by the millions to enable them to set up escape routes and safe havens, expect more and more subversive activities surfacing across the whole spectrum of governing and government.

ReplyDelete“The hard work done by our founding fathers has been squandered." - Kishore Mahbubani

Having said that, I think Kishore Mahbubani will also not join the Sinkie opposition.
And PAP will still win the next election.
If I were Hsien Loong, beyond asking my dogs to attack him, I would not really care what Kishore says. But I will still let him keep his high paying job to show that I am magnanimous.
And Kishore is still at his job, right? Or maybe I spoke too soon?
The Philippines tribunal ruled Taiping Island owned by Taiwan as rock to fit into no rights for 200 nautical miles, and 12 nautical miles Oceans laws.
ReplyDeleteSinkieland asked China to obey the new ruling. The ruling said China illegally owned South China sea islands.
Taiping island has Taiwan army and locals living on it. Its rock? Sinkieland diplomats lack common sense to insist China to obey the new rules.
If Sinkieland diplomats insistence turned into reality, South China sea would have wars with US, or any countries. PLA will act.
24 July China sent two J10 to intercept a P3 recce plane near China. One J10 flew pass P3 and blocked the latter s path at 91m away to force P3 to change course.
Vietnam went ahead to drill gas 400km from coast. China warned Vietcons PLA would attack Viet s Spratly island if drilling did not stop. The drilling stopped.
Sinkieland reported China pm accepted invitation to visit Sinkieland. China foreign ministry spokesman said he had no info, would revert if he has. No such news reported again.
Sinkieland politicians go to China, they are not accompanied by China senior officials. Is diplomacy a success or failure or Victory?
10:32am
ReplyDeleteU are optimistic. Sinkies have private debts 240 billions to pay monthly. 75% are housing for 25 to 30 years term.
In Zimbabwe, u can eat tiger meat or deer meat, up to u. Why carry cash? In Sinkieland, u can eat rubbish only.
If S$ drop value by 50%. 2 of the 3 banks will go bankrupt. Ah long has no money to borrow from. U know?
10 years later, IMF will move to Beijing. Lagard said. Ah long wanna borrow money at Beijing?
10 years later, the present 47% foreigners work force would increase to 60% to 70% foreigners, 30% citizens.
When that happens, S$ will drop to 50% or 40% of present value.
Defaults on loans will be huge due to high unemployment.
Eat dog meat is illegal here. Remember.
10 years later, the present 47% foreigners work force would increase to 60% to 70% foreigners, 30% citizens.
ReplyDelete11:38 am
Sinkieland will be even worse and much poorer now or even 10 years later, if work force is 100% real Sinkies.
So what is happening now or in the future that u predicted is still the lesser of 2 evils.
There is another good reason why there is no Sinkie opposition better than PAP.
ReplyDeleteThis is because whoever lead Singapore will soon realise that it is not easy to perform better than the PAP, given the constraints of land size and the below replacement fertility rate of real Sinkies, and the more serious problem of many talented Sinkies leaving for better pastures.
So as a result, no smart Sinkie in his right mind will think he can do a better job than Hsien Loong by becoming PM.
Lim Tean can do a better job than Hsien Loong by becoming PM.

ReplyDeleteSinkies had fast growth/ real type when GKS was in charge, about 6%. Sinkies were 100% workforce. GDP should be real sinkies GDP.
U did not even had that concept in mind. A bit retarded in argument.
Why S$ will drop value?
China 10 years later will have rmb increase in value because of real growth, from china firms and workers.
Sinkieland import services ie import labor: now 47% import, future 10 years should increase to 70%.
First: main supplier is Indians services. How much is indian currency? how much is pinoy currency? A product made by these groups at 70% cannot worth much more than the S$ now, at 47% foreigners. Products cannot sell higher in export. GDP has negative net export: materials labors all are imported. What advantages sinkieland has?
S$ will drop.
Second: China after 10 years can be 14 times its capacity now. China artificial intelligence has 26% impact to this market NOW.
10 years later, live robots will poke your ass hole if you are sinkies who want China to give up Sea islands. No need real meat to fight with u.
Third: sinkies now buy oppo made in xenzheng. In future, also buy almost all products from China, and borrow from China. What financial services Sinkies sell? A bit here and there at Indonesia nd India.
Conclusion S$ will drop value very quickly. If S$ drop to 50% or below current value, bank loans default will be huge. 3 banks will go bankrupt. Ah long need Imf to help. U come in as pm, may be. Ah long run road, say it due to health reason.
Imf said, world growth gdp is 3.5. Sinkieland can only do 2.4. Good or bad or ok to you?
Lim Tean should have joined the PAP to take over as PM from Hsien Loong.
ReplyDeleteBut problem is, PAP may not want to accept him, because there is no precedent of PAP accepting political frogs, or PAP politicians becoming political frogs.
Sinkies had fast growth/ real type when GKS was in charge, about 6%. Sinkies were 100% workforce. GDP should be real sinkies GDP.
ReplyDeleteU did not even had that concept in mind. A bit retarded in argument.
1:26 pm
GKS time China was still backward lah. And Sinkies were also giving birth like rabbits until LKY came up with stop at 2. So a lot of factories came to Sinkieland for mass production and lots of cheap labour lah.
GKS started from a low base (there were still many kampongs and attap houses during his time, u know) so it is much easier to show improvement lah.
Hope u are clearer now, and don't anyhow call names just to attack.
Conclusion S$ will drop value very quickly. If S$ drop to 50% or below current value, bank loans default will be huge. 3 banks will go bankrupt.
ReplyDelete1:26 pm
Since u can predict that, can u also don't mind also predict for us when that will happen?

ReplyDeleteThree people were injured after a double-decker SBS Transit bus suddenly ploughed into motorcycles at a junction along Pasir Panjang Road.
A video posted by Facebook page Beh Chia Lor on Tuesday (25 July) showed a service 10 bus suddenly running into about three motorcycles while the traffic lights are still red. The motorcyclists can be seen scrambling out of the way after the bus crashes into them.
The video has been shared more than 2,000 times since it was posted.
Later in the video, the bus is seen stopped at the roadside, with motorcycle debris strewn behind and under it.
According to the Singapore Civil Defence Force, the incident occurred last Thursday (20 July) at around 11am. SCDF said three people were sent to the National University Hospital.

ReplyDelete2:32 pm
Not everyone is rich lah. I also know some who are rich but not happy.
There are also poor people but they are also happy because they went to see their PAP MPs and the PAP MPs helped them a lot.
That's why some of the poor are part of the 70% who voted for PAP. If Chee Soon Juan is their MP, they know he cannot help, or rather much, much harder for Chee to help them. That's why Chee lost even a by election lor. But from what he had written and spoken, Chee doesn't seem to understand why he lost.
ReplyDeleteWhat is happening to our mrt?
ReplyDelete@3.04pm
Wah-lan! MPs so good! Help the poor a lot!
So must meet my MP tonight to ask for $elp!
Hope that the Q is not too long.
What is 'happening' to our mrt is not important. What is wrong with our mrt system is the problem. And what have we not been informed from what they found out over the last decade of rectifying the faults.
ReplyDeleteAnd what is more important is how bad is it going to be further down the road.
The old man was warned about the consequences. He ignored the advice. He thought he was god, since 70% worship him as such. Well, we are just finding out.
Like karma, bad things do not come immediately, but when your luck runs out, everything bad comes together at the same time.

ReplyDelete1 mechanic sit in the car to test drive, he comes back tabulate a list of faults of the car. U non mechanic, do not know what s wrong with the car. Army gen certain does not know why mrt has signalling problem. Even no signalling to stop a train when work was track resulted accident.
If you do not believe in picking out correct signals to predict where will go wrong, then let the car break down on the road. Dun predict. No worry any more.
Dun read economic, no worry any more.
In short sinkie gdp comes from c+i+g+(x-im). if material import, labor import 70% from indians/pinoys, what do sinkies sell? Iphone? Sinkies electronic parts are not high tech for handphone use. Sinkies is competing with Philippines which has growth 6%. Sinkieland has 2.4% below average.
How can sinkie claims its parts worth more at S$? The S$ will have to sell lower for export to cover the imported money using USD to pay off. If sinkieland cannot earn enough USD in export, S$ will have to drop: mas use USD to buy S$ to push up the S$ market value. If export no good, mas cannot sustain the buying to keep S$ up.
Ah long keep hiring foreigners. Help in levies and those middle men hr agencies, many are xarmy personnel. The danger is too many foreigners will create unemployment for the citizens job seekers.
In short excessive imports (material and labor): unemployment high, exchange rate drop.
Good question is WHEN?
Indon under Suharto had currency drop by 80% in 12 months period.
From what i read: currency drop value can be very fast. Similar to share market collapse ie drop value, one day can drop few hundred points to 900 points in Hang Seng.
If u have confidence on Pap s policy to rely on Indians labor and pinoy, i think u should buy singapore made products made by these people. Try them out. U will be convinced that S$ will drop when 70% are foreign labor in market. No need to argue. Let it happens. Be patriotic.
RB: " Did Singapore say or do anything to offend China?"
ReplyDeleteAccording to Associated Press, at an after-dinner speech to U.S. businessmen in Washington in April 2013, Lee Hsien Loong made a couple of jokes that could pass for stand-up comedy.
He drew laughs — and some groans — with his quips, including one about China's environmental problems.
"Beijing residents joke that to get a free smoke all they have to do is open their windows!" Lee said.
He then alluded to thousands of pig carcasses recently fished from Chinese rivers.
"(In) Shanghai, if you want some pork soup, you just turn on the tap," he said.
His audience appeared doubtful if that was good taste, until he added, "That's their joke, not mine!"
Lee, who met earlier in the day with President Barack Obama, had serious messages in his speech too.
He spoke about the challenges facing China as it emerges from its once-in-a-decade leadership transition, and on the need for the two global powers, the U.S. and China, to get along.
Singapore gets on well with both, and Lee said China, which remains cautious about political reform, looks at his prosperous city-state to try to understand how to balance its economic and social goals as it develops.
With a little deprecation, Lee described Singapore as a "tiny bonsai model" for China to learn from.

He is outright wth his choice of Allies and act on it openly for all to see.
Changi Naval Base is built to host the US Navy. Sin did Naval Military Exercise with India and is reviving TPP openly with Japan.
The Sin Leeder did all openly and as known, had also told China that it wants China to comply to the International Rulings as the Leeder understands them(lnternational Laws ) himself, which may not be neccessarily accurate or right. In fact some interpretations could be downright wrong, legally speaking.
Anyway how one looks at it, the Actiobs by the Sin Leeder is forthrightly open to the World to see.
The Naval Base is home to the US Navy in S E Asia and for the US to use in the Far East is beyond doubt a very unfriendly act against China.
let's see how Sin fares from now on economically,

Economy can be very bad but for the Govt it is still OK as long as they can win elections and remain in power and the streets are also peaceful.
ReplyDeleteBecause in this part of the world, Govt can only be overthrown in 2 ways,
1. by losing an election, or
2. by a street revolution.
I don't see that can happen to PAP govt in Sinkieland, do you?
And unlike Western govts, PAP Govt definitely cannot be overthrown by kpkb, not even kpkb by the PM's own siblings or relatives.
PAP Govt definitely can be overthrown by malignant cancer cells . . .

Actually, me does not drink anymore, though I am unable to stop my nearly 60 years of smoking as advised by many doctors due to the many ailments of the Body probably due to aging.
Btw, as a old Sinkie, me faces imminent expiry. As a senior citizen, l lament that old age in Sin is too challenging for me and many others.
Personally, me am not dead poor, but now cannot afford 'ang ji kao/G Stout or Tiger because my Camel Ciggy is now super expensive to ride, so are my 'kopi tic loh kah si' super thick/concentrated milk coffee with added evaporated milk at average $1.30 Sgd per glass.
Camel now costs $13.10 making my average minimum basic expenditure per day to about $25 Sgd.
Got to make up much to my
Monthly CPF Drawdown; very the 'jialat'.
So anyone thinking of suing me better thinks
carefully because there is no likely hood of this old man ever able to pay any compensation.
l too faces the Destiny except that the Younger Sinkies shall be worse off.
Wonder if there is any here who holds the Opposite View that Sin will flourish and Sinkies shall live in paradise for many years to come.

ReplyDeleteVery sorry for the Mistake of getting mixed up with the Figures.
It is postulated in this Tread that Sgd could drop by 50%.
There are also many 70% mentioned here, but they are not related to the Drop of Sgd future worth.
Me must have been overjoyed to read someone predicting impending devaluation of the Sgd which l have been pondering for a while.
Since we are at it, me really wishes that those in the Know, if such postulations of the Sgd are accurate or probable??
Thank You All.

This land called songki..... oops ..... "SueTillPants(brasunderwearssanitarypadsblousesskirtsetc)DropLand acquires the strenghth of its currency over the years probably through "removing the fangs of the trade union", "pulling out the claws of workers", "eunuchnising all discerning & dissenting (upright) voices" to "open the (songkies) legs big big to invite aunt more tua kees to screwty them JL JL" ..... and as a result axe-pots beecum verLEE CONperLEEtive in the international mkt ...?
DeleteThere is no such things as 60 months retrenchment benefits in this "SueTillPants(brasunderwearssanitarypadsblousesskirtsetc)DropLand .....
So axepots minus YinPots generate ear-ly surplus of 20% GDP.
With the "dirty managed float exchange rate" LEEgime and mobility of capital, it should (& has) lead to continued currency appreciation over the past 36 years since GKS adopted the exchange-rate based monetary policy LEEgime in 1981 ...?
To know how big the net axepots is ear-ly, just track the annual garment budget, they are abt the same value in absolute terms for the past decades ...?
Many so called expurt professors nvr link the value like that lah cos they are too "kongcum" to see it that way ...
But if X-M continues to track the size of the budget (in absolute value), then currency can only strengthen unless the value of net portfolio investments and hot money (in the FA) outflow exceeds value of the net of (X-M) & the net of FDI (of the FA) ...
GKS implemented an exchange LEEgime sthg like SG$ NEER (nominal effective exchange rate) band and built-in mechanism to intervene to ensure it stays within the lower and upper bounds cos if it doesn't, and veers out say the upper bound, if MLC (Marshall Lerner Condition which measures the price elasticity of exports and imports) applies then over appreciation is equivalent to a contractionary monetary policy to the aggregate demand of the economy (& that is harmful.lah technically speaking to the ecy ...?
So GKS made sure the sgd doesnt over appreciate due to the massive yearly trade surplus by setting up the tummysick and gee-eye-si to outflow the surplus so the demand for sgd is lessened ...?
But all these are acedmics bcos there is no abdullah tan lj to transparent the "billions existence" but only have "kotek fried chicken" who is totally hopeless in exonomics given his track records of burning billions in big investments ...?
Now, if u know how to read mathematical algebraic equations how currency values are impacted by external and domestic factors, MEE is "keen" to share with u by reprinting some of the pertinent macroeconomic algebraic equations here to share with u ......
But if they r gg to be like "GREEK" to u (im case u know nuts), then be upfront and free mind time to work on "mind clients {urgent} work orders" .....

However, I do believe that there could be some in My Singapore News who are enlighten with the Subject. At least Sir Chin Leng is from the Financial Sector and the One who postulated Sgd to depreciate is another
and I wont rule out others.
As for me, just say that I am an audacious layman who express my views intuitively. Hope there could be some accuracies in my observations.
Anyway,
me thinks that it is always and definitely good for the experts to guide lay folks in simple terms to better their understanding of things that affect their live.
Few in Sin are kind to provide probono services, which could be of great help to lay folks. Wish that more Good Folks are around for us to learn from.

ReplyDeleteSome old folks use their $500 skewfuture ("frivolously") to learn abt stamps appreciation (or use them paste own eyes?)?
Some use it to live "2nd Spring" and learn "Pom Chak Chak (Cha Cha here, Cha Cha there) frolicking in dance studios with Lau Chios or Gor Kee Chius" verLee shiok (given their body language and expression)?
Demand creates supply?
Or Supply creates demand (according to Say's Law)?
Ask garment allow skewfuture $500 be used for simple lay old folks Economics classes lah than "useless stamps appreciation or Pom Chak Chak frolicking dance classes at 80-yo"?
EveLEEthing publish here is it "public goods" or not?
Can u rule out many freeriders or freeloaders "lurking around"?
Like songkies do NS but some foreign workers who come here "steal jobs from songkies" enjoy free defence and security?
Defence and security can be "public goods" cos hard to exclude freeriders from consuming (& enjoying the benefits for free) but can "Economics coaching" ever be a "Public Good" for all leeching foreign aliens to freeride?
Ask uncle rb book a classroom lah or arrange lim(expensive$11)kopi at Sunbuck or Tea Beans lah then share some economics knowledge lor for free to old folks (who are interested)?
If Economics lessons are "Public Goods" (like roads, street lamps, national defence), all garments worldwide would have provided it for free, right?
To share some insights how difficult such endeavours can be, many parents cough out several hundreds per month to send their JC kids to tuition centres but after spending all the time & $$$, many JC students still get "U" (ungraded) marks in their school tests/ exams ...? For JCs, "U" (ungraded) means 39 marks & below .....
This is the hardtruth lah ...?
On one side, parents slogging like shit and paying several thousands per year per subject to send their JC kids for Econs tuition and many students still cannot get a passing grade of E and above or even manage a sub-pass grade of "S" .....?
And here one old folk in his late 60s/ early 70s wishing "philanthropic and altruistic" Economists (if ever the real world and in particular songkieland serves as an incubator for such beans) to provide public goods type service to impart economics knowledge on msn platform ...?
Apparently, this uncle patrait yearnings attest to the economic concept of "Scarcity"? Human beans with "Unlimited wants" but "limited means" ...? Can "jalan" or not?
Local uni undergrads pay about $10,000 per year but often get econs lecturers that read off the script with such monotony that even a hot potato can turn cold just after a few mins into the lesson ...?
And here again one old folk hoping for easy simple terms economics taught for free like a public good for eveLEEboLEE, evelee forLEEner working in songkieland to freeride?
Realistic aspiration or wishful hope .....?
Utter detachment from reality?
Yew decide ...?

Latest sgd to rmb 4.96?

1) Where is the breakdown of C (as an algebraic eqn) to show it as a function of autonomous consumption, mpc (marginal propensity to consume), disposal income (accounting for taxes) ........?
2) Where is the breakdown of I (as an algebraic eqn) to show it as a function of autonomous investment, responsiveness to a change in gdp, responsiveness to a change in real interest rate ...?
3) Where is T (taxes) in the eqn? (And the corresponding lump sum taxes, %age tax on income & consumption?)
4) Where is the breakdown of G (as an algebraic eqn) to show it as a function of fixed G, proportional G components varying with income, consumption...?
5) Where is the money demand in the money market algebraic eqn to show automous money dd, responsiveness of money dd to changes in income and interest rate ...?
6) Where is the money supply component in the eqn?
7) Where is the breakdown of X (as an algebraic eqn) as a function of foreign income, real exchange rate .....?
8) Where is the breakdown of M as a function of domestic income, real exchange rate ......?
The list goes on ......?

Uncle,
Reality hurts ...?
U want to know how bad the situation is?
In the past 10 years, Mee talked to many clients who talked to mee about many things bcos they know mind strong interests in economics, maths, stats, ...
So the topic veered to their children struggling in sch, especially those in JCs and getting "U" & "S" grades in JC Economics ...
They shared how much $$$ they spent and in the end what works ...
There was this parent who had a child in a top jc in bishan ...
She sent her child to an econs tuition ctr in bt timah near another top jc (also in bt timah lah) ...
This tuition ctr is in an old shopping mall built in 1969 and downstairs got a supermkt
The tutor supposedly ex-scholar or sthg like has a master degree lah in exonomics...
What happened ...?
The parent said her child went for this econs tuition for 7 months during the child JC2 and in that year late Jul/ early Aug, the sch mid year exam results was released!
Alas, her child got a "U" grade in Econs ... "omg!" She said ... to her horror ... and deep shock!
She said the thought of suing the tuition ctr crossed her mind ...
She immediately pulled her child out of this so called econs tuition ctr and furiously hunt for those private tutors lah who provide individual one to one coaching ...
U know what she said ...?
After the private one to one econs tutor took over and on the 3rd lesson, this mother had a brief conversation with the private tutor to find out her child's problem in econs ...
During the conversation, she was horrified to hear what the private tutor revealed to her about her child's econs knowledge and ability ...
She said her child confided to the private tutor that for 7 months he went to the econs tuition ctr classes for the sake of going there only but did not learn or able to understand almost eveLEEthing ... bcos the private tutor discovered during the first 3 lessons that the child didnt know practically most of the basic econs concepts taught in JC1 and JC2 ... it was so shocking to the parent that her child went to an exons tuotion ctr for 7 months and her child's econs at this atrocious situation with A level exam barely 3 months away at that time ...
This client said during that first 3 lessons the private tutor had to teach her child exons concepts from scratch ...
This client also mentioned her child also confided to the private tutor that in those 7 months he just sat in the tuition ctr class but the mind was blank cos cannot follow what the tutor teaching or talking ... anyway the tuition ctr tutor just talked talked away but nvr engaged the class or students individually ...
This client had to specially arrange intensive private tuition with this one to one tutor during that balance 3 months before the A level exam ...
This mother said luckily her child in the end got very good grade in exons, thks to the private one to one coaching of the private exons tutor ...
To be continued ...
... con't @ 6.04am
DeleteShe said lucky she pulled her child out of the econs tuition ctr in late Jul that year otherwise her child likely could not get into the uni ...
Another client also said similar things that his daughter only revealed to them much later that the econs tuition she was having at a tuition ctr was not helping her econs ... finally they also engaged a private one to one exons tutor ....
In JC, the grading are as follow:
A 70 marks and above
B 60 to 69 marks
C 55 to 59 marks
D 50 TO 54 marks
E 45 to 49 marks
S 40 to 44 marks (S for Sub-Pass)
U 39 marks and below (U for ungraded)
Tough for many parents nowadays ...
Now u know why fertility rate so low in songkieland ...
Besides the high costs of upbringing a child in songkieland, ensuring a child make it to uni often means knowing they cannot rely on sch teaching alone but need pay thousands of $$$ per mth for the child's tuition fees ...
Most tuition ctrs charge cheaper but wont know effective or not till much later (& maybe too late by then) ...
Many clients revealed that as parents they are stressed like fark when their child did badly in JC exams and they need frantically hunt for private tutors in the very last min ...
So uncle patrait, the reality is as such so harsh even at A level not mentioning at uni level, and there u are hoping for some kind economist soul to provide layman able to understand exonomics pedagogy to old folks in msn ...?
Really "salute" u ...?
For your "Tian Zheng" child like mentality (and wishful thinking) ....
