Gilbert Goh posted an article about the 200% hike in rental of a single mum living in a HDB flat. I quote,
‘A young single mum with a primary school-going daughter related to us how HDB mercilessly increases their rent from $61 to $230 during renewal when her new job carries a salary which increases from $1200 to $1500 before CPF deduction.
All the joy of having a $300 pay jump from a new job became a curse when HDB upon renewal of her lease learnt of the good news and decided to increase her rent.’
With a $300 pay hike, after less CPF, the single mum would have a little extra of $250+ to ease her living expense burden. Now with a $169 rental hike, there would be only $89 surplus left. Water fee hike, transport fee hike, hike of food prices and what not, the $89 may end up with only $50 left.
So the employer gave a pay hike to employees but the money goes to who? It would be quite different for people getting a 10% pay hike on a $10,000 or $20,000 salary or more. But a $300 pay hike to the poor, oops, cannot say this word, Singapore where got poor people, should use lower income people, it is a lot but ended up in other people’s pockets.
What to say? Our Robin Hoods are very good at robbing the poor to give to the rich. Oops, sorry again, Singapore got no poor people to be robbed. Robin Hood would have a big problem in Singapore because there is no poor people to rob. All the so called poor people have a lot of money in their CPF savings and these can be used to pay for more compulsory schemes to benefit them. Such lucky people. No need to think how to spend their savings, the govt thinks for them and helps them to spend.
No need to think how to spend their savings, the govt thinks for them and helps them to spend.
ReplyDeleteRB
Not the govt thinks for them lah, but rather the govt "force them to think" to spend it the way the govt wants.
Just like the govt "force them to think" (for 70%) it is best to vote for the ruling party lor.
Remember it is "force them to think", not thinks for them, OK?
ReplyDeleteSingapore got poor people?
Was told, $1000 per month salary can buy BTO!
Hahaha......a very good one! Can buy? Can survive here? Try!
I tell you....living in this sardine-packed tiny very expensive city state you must 3Ms!
Please note that this is a no-money-no-talk and you-die-your-business society!
Furthermore, with bad "han cheng", you have to guard your own lunch, make sure it is not stolen!
Living here is really not easy! Really no joke! Everything is up up up! But salary no up!
What to do......We are Singapore.......HOME!
Remember it is "force them to think"...
ReplyDelete10:50 am
Tiok.
Force them to think first, then they will be forced to do, and then it will happen the way you want it to happen.
Of course not 100% can be forced to think lah. If only 60% or 70%, very good already. Can win liao lor.
No poor people in Sinkieland? Uncle, u believe wat the MIWs said? u must have closed both eyes or be so ignorant in ur advance age, or actually ignorant is a blessing. Look at those selling tissues, those stay in east coast park, hdb void decks or in Nparks pavilions, even in McDonalds, kopi shops & also in the national library, they r everywhere. When u believe the whites Cheng Hu, this is wat u got. Even in some temples/mosques r infested with beggars for free meals daily. These people some r very poor with no cash or little monies. There r some who ask for transport monies, worst r some poor with dementia with chronic illnesses..it's a sad state that the MIWs pretend not to see them..
ReplyDeleteLiving here is really not easy! Really no joke!

Of course have lah. Which country on earth got no poor people, u tell lah?
To PAP, most important is majority, say 70%, are not poor and so they are happy with PAP and also vote for PAP.
To PAP, most important is majority, say 70%, are not poor and so they are happy with PAP and also vote for PAP.
ReplyDelete11:05 am
Equally important is that the poor, say 30%, also dare not protest even in Hong Lim Park, let alone illegally on the streets.
So the country looks good, peaceful and prosperous, even though living here is really not easy and also really no joke.
So the country looks good, peaceful and prosperous,...

Tiok. Just look at the number of cars on the roads and the traffic jams. Cars are so expensive here and yet still got so many cars. And new condos are sprouting everywhere. There must have been demand or else developer would not have built them, tio bo?
And just look at how crowded the MRT is during peak hours, or even off peak hours. It shows that many people still got jobs and going to work on the MRT. Never mind majority may not be Sinkies but why would PAP care when PAP could still get 70% votes?
All those people who said they are poor but stll got a lot of money in their CPF.

ReplyDeleteSingapore where got poor people?? See they been paying hundred plus a tin for their infants milk powder for donkey years before now the MPs are going to debate in Parliament of what ridiculous prices they been slaughtering the people.
Recently, one or two female MPs just give birth and lots of Hoo Ha. Aiyo, sixteen thousand a month just MP's allowances cannot afford the milk powder meh??
How about those on below one thousand salary?? Every time we sojourn to Melaka, my friend's bro staying in a terrace house with four grandchildren as encouraged by our PAPies to have more children will always care of him to buy at least six to eight tins home.
See everyday, Kranji Bus Terminal at least few hundreds line up for bus 160/170 with exchange 1 to 3.15 to buy milk powder at City Square Kapitan.
If not, you got no spare cash to feed the PAP government and their cronies.

Even if PAP govt screw up, "it is better than being the Sinkie opposition as govt," 70% thinks, or rather forced to think . .
ReplyDeleteWhy some idiots keep harping that the Opposition is not ready to be government when they even contested 100 percent in the last Elections.
Just said you have no balls to vote The Opposition. That's a better excuse.
Afraid that your overpriced flat becomes valueless after the Opposition become the government. Afraid that your jobs will vanish, afraid of everything that the Opposition is unable to be a capable government.
How many Nations with Coalition Governments are doing fine with even no single or two parties government.
PAP guarantee that your flats will appreciates 1000%.Your jobs are secure? ?
If the Opposition is not given to prove that they are capable then what the he'll does the PAP proved??
Proved that you be redundant anytime now and when your flats lease is over, it is Zero cats.
Thats why many would rather rent than purchase the flats and they purposely increase the rentals so that you have no choice but to buy their over priced tie ren pan hey prices.
Think many of the Opposition candidates are more credible than the PAP parrots.

Only idiots think that just because the Opposition contested 100 percent in the last Elections, they are ready to be govt when
it is the Opposition themselves (and the strongest one some more) said they are not ready to be government, and not that the idiots keep harping.

And if the strongest one said so, others, if they think otherwise, are not only idiots but also need IMH checkup. Or maybe getting senile with old age.
ReplyDeleteYou think the Opposition contests just for the sake of contesting? ?
If they are been elected to form the government, you think they will tell the PAP, please continue to be the government? ?
It's just an election ploy to state that only the WP declared to be the government.
Then let the others be the leaders.
You think those like Jeyetnam and CSJ not fit to lead? ?
Don't be paralysed by the scared tactics of the PAPies that they are the only ones capable ENOUGH to be the government.

ReplyDeleteVirgo 49
I have no doubt that CSJ can lead, or at least intellectually. Only that God is not helping him by not giving him enough soldiers, weapons and money to lead and fight the battle with PAP. So being fit to lead also no use, tio bo?
Whereas for LHL, even though he has proven not that good as leader, but he has lots of soldiers, weapons and money, and a lot of it was inherited from his late father, which God really helped.
And LHL also helped himself to preserve and enhance his inheritance, so God also help him to win by making majority Sinkies only vote for those who has lots of soldiers, weapons and money, and not a pauper like CSJ.
You know the type of breed....conditioned to see only the "good". ...seek out those who are "good" FOR them ...and hosting skills compared to the taiwanese you will think they are talking to children or talk like children

They will rallied their soldiers when the time is right? ?
So many capable professionals at the sideline sick of the PAP will step forward when rallied upon.
Just because CSJ is a pauper as what you said by your definition so he has no capabilities to be in the government? ?
It's better to be a pauper with no guilt scandals rather than a rich charlatan bum.
At least they have the principles than fleecing the poor for their greed.

But if CSJ is billionaire, why would he want to be Sinkie opposition in the first place?
Any Sinkie billionaires in politics in Sinkieland so far? Maybe support PAP, yes.
Is CSJ still staying in a 3 room HDB flat in Toa Payoh with his family?
ReplyDeleteIf so, I think he really needs to upgrade to a bigger flat as his 3 children are growing up and reaching adults soon.
He needs to be seen helping himself first, before others can have the confidence that he as a politician can help them.

ReplyDelete///A young single mum with a primary school-going daughter related to us how HDB mercilessly increases their rent from $61 to $230 during renewal when her new job carries a salary which increases from $1200 to $1500 before CPF deduction.///
ReplyDeleteWhat job is she doing?
Young single mum?
Pri sch daugther?
How old is this young single mum?
DeleteWhat job is she doing?
What is her education level/ job experience?
Even old aunties/ uncles working full-time at fast food joints are earning $1000+ per month?
DeleteWhy is a young lady pay so "low"?
She got no marketable job skills that can earn her above $2k per month?
Is she competing in a job segment even old aunties, uncles are competent to perform?
DeleteIs she working in a job sector infested/ flooded with low-wage foreign fake talents?
Is it possible this young lady is a sch dropout (at a young age) and does not have post-secondary education?
Given the real business cycles in the modern economy, shocks to a growing economy are inevitable?
DeleteLow wage workers surviving at the bottom would be in "serious trouble" when the downturn hits?
So such workers like this "young single mum" need assiduous planning to get into jobs that could be labour intensive and thus "recession-proof" and at least in the $2,000+ range with yearly 2 to 3-month bonuses upwards and other benefits?
Just a few examples but not exhaustive jobs are transport industries, retail F & B like fast-food outlets supervisors, asst managers, managers etc?
DeleteGiven her salary of $1,200 to $1,500, this young single mum seems to be working in jobs old uncles/ aunties are capable to take on?
Why?
Given an aging population, "young" job seekers in the late 20s/ early 30s doing rank and file duties should be very much in demand?
DeleteIf this is true and this young single mum is "stuck" in such $1,000+ job in coming years, when the next downturn hits, herself and her young daugther may be "financially squeezed", stressed out and hanging even more precariously in the margin of the social cracks?
Empirically, there are some middle age 40+/ 50+ ladies earning $2k+ (with all the usual benefits) in the financial district just being "office-helpers" making coffees for their bosses and guests but need dress in presentable office attires lah?
Fast-food/ F&B outlets entry level supervisors, asst managers can easily pay significantly more than what "this young single mum" is drawing?
DeleteRecession or not, people still need to eat at food courts and fast food outlets?
So such jobs are relatively defensive in nature "steady" occupations that earn stable income in the $2k+ range (with benefits) given her current predicaments and she can't afford to be out of job or earning any lower?
Oops .... typo .....
DeleteShould be "sturdy" occupations .....
Can she bake?
Can she cook well?
If not, can she learn such skills on the job while drawing a decent salary?
Frankly, there are many JC and secondary students spending up to $1,500 to $2,000+ on tuition fees alone?
So how is this young single mum daugther going to compete with her peers in the education system if she is not naturally in the top 5 to 7% cohort and therefore need some form of tuition along the way?
DeleteMany secondary students already need help in some subjects to do well?
If get into JC, it is much worst cos need do PW (project work in JC1), GP, either 4 H2 or 3 H2 & 1 H1 subjects (with 1 being a contrasting subject) in the current system?
If her daugther is relatively bright and likely to excell in secondary sch, then getting into JC subsequently could face some stumbling blocks whether as a science, arts or hybrid stream student?
DeleteScience stream students tend to need help in GP/ Econs?
Arts stream students especially those taking literature/ history are weak in Math/ Econs?
Hybrid stream students could be weak in Math/ Econs/ Chem etc?
Means this young single mum's daughter would need some form of tuition help a few years down the road?
JC2 is "1 of the turbulent years" in a child's life and need a lot of parental support to progress to uni subsequently?
To get into reasonable uni courses, at least need about 72 to 78 rank points?
78 rank points means an average of all "Bs" in PW, GP, 3 H2 and 1 H1 subjects in A-level?
DeleteGiven the (atrocious) teachings in some subjects in most JCs, tuition in such subjects (becomes a NECESSITY than a choice) if students kena such (horrendous) teachers/ (worthless cmi) lecture notes?
Empirically, even VERY BRIGHT (2 pointers) students in top JCs struggle with some subject(s) (whether in Science or Art stream) throughout both JC 1 and 2 for one reason or another?
One work acquaintance send his daughter for tuition in 4 subjects (setting him back 25% of his monthly take home pay) though the gal is relatively bright and scores quite well in O-Level ....... but failed all subjects during JC1 mid year exam ......
Another acquaintance son in a top JC failed and repeated JC1 ......
Poly is another route but usually outcome happy only for the top 10 to 25% in each cohort?
If in poly and children need tuition help, parents would be "in trouble"?
The main stream tuition industry does not provide specific tuition services for poly subjects?
Same for uni students subsequently?
Some time back in 1 of the years, towards uni exam period, saw one NTU China undergrad "struggling" with elementary Math and Statistics module in a coffee joint outlet ......
DeleteIt was like during early April in one of the years and uni exam usually starts around mid to late April?
Saw him poring over basic Calculus problems like differentiation and intergration .....
And also basic Statistics problems in topics like Random Variables (Discrete and Continuous), Normal Distribution, Hypothesis Testing etc?
How come know he is a China undergrad student studying in Sg?
Bcos he looks like one and he periodically turned to his handphone for "relief" everytime he seems struggling with some Math or Stats concepts and most if not all the web sites he surfed were all in Chinese .......
The coffee joint was very packed that day and was in the midst of rushing some work to meet dateline ......
DeleteSo ended up sharing a small table for a few hours with this NTU China undergrad that day a few years back .......
It is not unusual these days some undergrads engaged tutors in some subjects like Math, Stats, Accounting, Management, Law, even some Econs module like Intro to Econs, Econometrics, Intermediate Micro, Intermediate Macro, Monetary Economics, International Economics etc etc.
Why uni undergrads still need tuition?
Based on the students account from acquaintances, some of their lecturers dunno from which countries and "can hardly teach at all" though many possess ao called a "PhD" in the discipline they are teaching?
Some parents dun believe "took leave to sit in some lecture and left the lecture halls within half an hour in disgust", if the accounts given (by some acquaintances) are true ......?
That explains why if anyboLEE was to drop by some campuses during term time, some lecture halls are almost empty during lecture slots though the enrolment actually indicate "full or almost full house" for such modules/ units?
Coming back to this single mum, if many parents of dual income earning consistently $10k to $20k per month combined (before bonuses) are "struggling" to see through their kids completing their education, what kind of future would this single mum of $1,500 salary face in years to come?
DeleteMany current doctors might admit they failed Econs throughout almost their entire JC life getting "U" till their JC2 mid year or final prelim exam but miraculously pulled up an A in such subjects during the final hurdle?
For many current lawyers, same story?
Many are quite weak in Math and Econs in JC and pulled through via intensive tuition towards the end?
So, if current cream of the crop of each cohort doctors and lawyers need intensive tuition help during JC to get through their A-Level exam, what more the children of many low-income families such as the "revelation of this single mum's predicament and tough encounters"?
Pitted against the rest of society, what future would this single mum family face?
She will need a lot of help and meticulous planning along the way to ensure a smoother journey going forward ......?

".....elite blood sucking tuition teachers ....."?
Mb all these are from those under-13 enrichment classes?
Can use baby bonus (to pay) mah?
A-Level H2 subjects cannot "pian chiak" lah especially those students/ parents last minuite squeeze in intensive tuition or some like left 3 to 4 months before A-Level exam?
Such parents/ students usually very grateful lah cos (just) spend 3 to 4 months tuition fees but managed to salvage their children's future/ A-Level grades/ uni entry .....?
For (any) A-Level H2 (content) subjects like Math, Chem, Physics, Bio, Econs ..... etc CANNOT pian chiak lah especially 3 or 4 months left or less before A-Level exam?
AnyboLEE who think A-Level tutors who turned around "U" grade students within 3 or 4 months before A-Level exam and (eventually) scored either "A or B" grade (in the crucial A-Level exams) are "pian chiak or chicken feet job", PLS KEE CHIU?
Those obnoxious ones (tutors) angkor Virgo49 mentioned mb from primary sch levels or those under-13 enrichment classes?
Teenagers from 13 or 15 onwards are already old enough and quite smart?
If the tutor no good after 1 or 2 lessons they will tell their parents cancel the tuition le (& find another one)?
Those (very) commercialised (and super) profit oriented operators usually target under-13 NON-teenage age grp cos those children (often) still not quite old enough (to discern whether such classese really good for them or object to their parents coercing them to attend such lessons)?
Upp secondary and JC students mostly if not all are often very tired, lack of sleep and stressed out/ exhausted by (often non-productive) MARATHON sch curriculum and activities and what not so unless absolutely necessary and useful, they are unlikely to be so diligent to drag themselves out of bed early on Sat and Sun mornings to attend (heavy) tuition lessons (after one whole week of formal sch curriculum during week days)?
Of course there are exceptions (and those out to fleece students/ parents)?
Those type final A-Level results released will show lah but up to parents/ students to wise up lor?
Obviously, there are some JC students who attended several months of tuition at some centres (for the sake of attending) but ended up failing their sch exams (and mostly almost never pick up any content knowledge/ problem solving skills) and thus no confident lor?
Some are lucky to subsequently get good tutors to walk them through before A-Level so ended getting stirling results (in the end)?
Con'td below ......
..... Con't from above
DeleteSo worth it or not, spending 3/ 4 months fees to secure the child's future?
If dun spend 3 months fees, when A-Level results come out and suck in the end, some parents ended up selling their homes, downgraded to tiny flats to pay for their kids 3 to 4 years overseas studies?
That is why housing kena laogoa asset inflation/ monetisation become so unaffordable for many, work place flooded with foreign/ fake talents, MRT frequent breakdowns or packed like sardine, cars/ ERPs/ parkings etc cost more than an arm and leg, pre-natal and post-natal care so ex, baby care and child care fees so high, then hit pri 1 to JC2 the tuition fees multiply EXPONENTIALLY each (passing) year etc etc?
In short, it cost more than a ("ATOMIC") BOMB to raise just ONE CHILD in SIN CITY, much less 2, 3 or 4 or more, not counting time taken to care for the child (including parents kena "abused/ humiliated/ demoralised/ deflated" by teachers during meet the parents session in schools along a kid's sch journey etc etc)?
So, any sensible young adults would think twice, thrice, 4 times, multiple times whether they can afford the energy, $$$, patience etc etc to see through their offsprings to adulthood if they bring them to this world .....
oops ...... to this (ABSURDITY or) SIN CITY?
Btw, @ 5.53am, it was mentioned "One work acquaintance send his daughter for tuition in 4 subjects (setting him back 25% of his monthly take home pay) though the gal is relatively bright and scores quite well in O-Level ....... but failed all subjects during JC1 mid year exam ......"
Why?
Cos this father after attending a meet the parent session after his child mid year exam last year was so furious and filled with anguish/ disgust/ nausea?
He related (later on) at that point of time, he gave up on the sch teachers, (on the principal, sch mgt and JC as a whole), went back home, promptly held an urgent "meeting" with his wife that night, and resolutely determined to help their child by engaging 4 tutors (subsequently) in those subjects their gal most need help?
The father mentioned (during private conversation) that at times, when work really get stressed up, he told himself even if he lose his job, he will still make sure his daughther continue to have tuition till her A-Level exam in Nov this year ......
Being kay-poh, asked the father why he is so resolute about it as if he had "ZERO-confidence" in the teachers and JC his daughter attending?
The father said he has dealt with enough people his whole life and he is good in reading people .... after having spoken to his daughter's various teachers during the meet the parent session (and supposedly mgt), he has no doubt in his mind that there is no hope if he left his daugther to make do with what are provided in the sch (and thus willing to pay through even his nose to finance his daughter tuition).
So far, this acquaintance said the spending has paid off and his daughter is among the top if not the top in her class in most of the subjects she has tuition.
Till now, the father related, her daughter still cannot follow what are being taught in sch lectures for new topics but after sch, when her tutors teach her within a short lesson what sch teachers used many lessons to teach (in sch) she can totally grasp the concepts most of the time and have good retention some more with minimal revision subsequently.
Mee actually "felt very disturbed" inside after hearing this acquaintance accounts and wonder if this is pervasive (in the sch system), what would happen to those at the bottom like this young single mum angkor lao hero rb mentioned in this post?
So, if yew are a young couple, u come across such experiences, yew still dare go ahead with parenthood in SIN CITY (without thinking and sleeping over it a gazillion times)?
Some bugger said earning $1000 can buy flats oredy. So this woman earning $1500 must be very rich, must pay more or go and buy a flat.

ReplyDeleteJust to add on the living and bringing up your children in sinking land.
In Housing, you have to wait for donkey years and paid thru your arses the price of the over inflated monopolized public housing.
Only their cronies and their favoured special privilege supporters are given priority in having their choice units almost immediate.
You have to have sex in a small space temporarily if you cannot tahan and married early.
Whereas when you have your flats after five ballots and considered lucky and bringing up the children at your middle age, you are already half dead with tongkat when your children just completed secondary schools and going for National Slavery.
What's a life in SINKIE land.
So much for Metrocrazy? ?
