We have
people taking our national defence, Total Defence, for granted. In fact some of
the policies are undermining the very precepts of Total Defence. Not only that
foreigners, and many from highly terrorist proned countries, are brought in to
work here, to live among us, in the heartland, and many were even working in
sensitive positions and trades. We have this silly notion that all foreigners
are friendly and would not do harm to Singapore. Oh, they have evidence that
the foreigners are only using Singapore as a base, not to harm Singapore, like
the discovery of Bangladeshi terrorist cells. They are only planning terrorist
activities in their home country. So it is ok. Foreigners are very nice to
Singapore and Singaporeans.
Why is
Desmond Lee saying something so fundamental and crucial to our nation’s
defence, that we need to rely on our own citizens to do that, not to outsource
to foreigners? How many policies are there, like hiring and bringing in
foreigners indiscriminately and employed in industries and positions that could
compromise our safety, security and the defence of our nation?
We exposed
our citizens by letting foreigners of dubious backgrounds to live among them,
and plenty of them are now living in HDB estates. We allowed foreigners to be
employed in highly sensitive IT jobs, to guard our checkpoints! How thoughtless
can this be? The checkpoints are the first line of defence and these foreigners
guarding them could be the holes to let the terrorists through.
What are the
people in security and intelligence thinking or doing that today, after so many
years of flooding the island with potentially dangerous elements, and many
already in positions to do harm and damage to our defence, the damage could
have been done, that we have a Senior Minister of State (Home Affairs) raising
the alarm? Did he just realize that this is a dangerous path to go forward? Is
he just another swallow and the rest are still happy dreaming or sleeping and
allowing the foreigners to take charge or be in position to create trouble to
the defence of our nation and people?
Do they know
what Total Defence is all about? Have they forgotten or is Total Defence just
an aspiration, not meant to be anything? No need to take Total Defence seriously?
It may be too late now with half the population comprising of foreigners that
have no good things to talk about us and would do us in if they could.
Defence
cannot be outsourced, or should our defence continue to be outsourced? What do
you think? The whole of Home Affairs and Defence Ministries, only one junior
minister is awaken by this sorry state of affair and think it is necessary to
talk about it. It is not a problem to the rest of them in charge of defence of
the country? Can it be said that since they did not say anything about it, they
are happy with the situation except Desmond Lee? Or is Desmond Lee expressing
their concerns in the open as a politician?
The thing
that pissed me off most, and I believe every NSmen, is to be checked and
harassed by foreigners in police uniform at the check points like we are
potential terrorists when we are the ones trained to defend this country, to
fight and die for this country. Why are we subject to interrogations and checks
and the rude glare of foreigners that could be the real terrorists or potential
terrorists that would do us harm? This
is our country and our country trust foreigners to check on us, the defenders
of our country?
How silly
can we get? Yes Desmond, wake them up.
/// Why are we subject to interrogations and checks and the rude glare of foreigners that could be the real terrorists or potential terrorists that would do us harm? ////
ReplyDeleteMaybe is it because this is the Kingdom of PAP?

Maybe is it because this is the Kingdom of PAP and the Kingdom of PAP trust foreigners to check on Singaporeans?
Hahahah, bringing in the wolves to check on the chicken, to protect the safety of the chicken.
ReplyDeleteFear not. Fear not.
ReplyDeleteDesmond Lee and Lim Swee say are just a voice in the wilderness.
I don't think all PAP Ministers agree with them.
Singapore belongs to everybody except maybe slaves and Singaporeans.
Aliens and foreigners are always welcome.
/// Why is Desmond Lee saying something so fundamental and crucial to our nation’s defence, that we need to rely on our own citizens to do that, not to outsource to foreigners? ///
ReplyDeleteHey! Don't anyhow arrow me okay?
Do HDB flats belong to the Kingdom of PAP?
Please ask the private property owners to do more National Service to protect their own property.
If your private property is worth $10 million dollars - then maybe your son should serve 10 years in National Service.
If "my" HDB flat is worth $500K, then maybe I should just serve 0.5 years in National Service?
This is called proportional representation tio bo?
Do you think "Total Defence" has been replaced by "Total Cock-up"?
ReplyDeleteDesmond Kuek - what do you think?
Since you are an army general and SMRT General.
Maybe you are in a good position to comment?
ReplyDeleteThis is Singapore! You don't know meh?
Everything can be outsourced.
Not only the defence etc etc etc.
In future we may even consider outsourcing the entire parliament
including office bearers and maybe the whole civil service.
Judges, lawyers, doctors etc etc etc may be outsourced.
Nothing is impossible!
We can always do a cost/benefit analysis for all proposed outsourcing.
Therefore everything can be outsourced!
Happy? Happy? Happy?
Blame the shallow minded PG laochek brigade who do not produce enough in those days resulting in shortage of sinkies willing to take up jobs as APOs.
ReplyDeleteNo brainers laocheks can push the blame on the then 'hell'minister Yong ,who was reported to have mooted the idea of stop at 2 if they wish, but the new generation of leaders should not be blame for bringing in foreigners as APOs.Security cannot be compromise but half a loaf is better than no bread.
Many are oredi serving in the SPF donkey years back so it's nothing new.
Only suggestion that is valid is to reduce the number and select the best.

PAP say can outsource means can lah, cannot means cannot lah.
Have you forgotten that is a whopping 70% of Sinkies that gave PAP this mandate to decide?
You want to decide, be a leader of a political party like PAP that can win majority seats in a GE lah.
Shall we outsource to the Americans, handsome young men in green berets to defend our country?
ReplyDeleteWith half the resident population in Singapore comprising foreigners, what will Singaporeans be defending the country for? Or maybe I should ask who will Singaporeans be defending the country for>

Ooops!

ReplyDeleteThe stupidity of the government knows no bound.
Long time ago, the Customs Officers all of them Singaporeans and went thru training schools and duties at harbour and land checkpoints like ports were in the frontlines at the land checkpoints of woodlands and Tuas.Just because of a few explosions and they put the immigration personnel to the front. Now called ICA instead of C&E.
Now helm by the Auxiliary policemen recruited at kranji MRT station and at JB sentral
Even Malaysian own immigrassi personnel can sabo their own country immigration network for monies. What more the Auxiliary foreign personnel.
Do they have the loyalties and security for sinkieland.
Now the Customs and CNB officers are only summoned when they suspected customs or CNB offences.
Do the auxiliary police have the same experiences and know hows as good as the actual authorities? ?
Many cases of undetected unaccustomed goods already smuggled thru.

Do you think we also have this silly notion that PAP is competent and would not do harm to Singapore?
/// Oh, they have evidence that the foreigners are only using Singapore as a base, not to harm Singapore, like the discovery of Bangladeshi terrorist cells. ///
ReplyDeleteOh I see.
Bangladeshi terrorists fly all the way to Singapore to plan terrorism in Bangladesh.
Because Singapore got more places to hide than Bangladesh is it?
WI think we need to see which area that can be outsourced. Example in the entertainment industry, if u go to any night clubs, pubs and massage parlours whether legal or illegal ones, you can not find a single indie woman working in those places. All are outourced to China, Philippine, Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam. In fact even Gelang chicken houses are all outsourced, u can not find real locals working there. Yiu may find PR working in those establishments.
ReplyDeleteSo without the foreign talents in this industry, the industry can not survive.
If don't believe, u can go to check on the websites. We from the club definitely do not want to be deprived from all the fund and the riding that we enjoyed.

Defense must be 100% state run, controlled and use only local folks who are willing and able (i.e. 100% professional military, no conscripts).
ReplyDeleteOnce you start "outsourcing" treating it like some free-market, free-competition model, you invite a whole heap of problems and ongoing butt-hurt---for e.g. crony capitalism imposing military socialism, the growth of a political-military-industrial demon, corporate welfare in the 100's of billions, concentration of power and influence...huge diversions of tax-revenue into private hands...and so on...and makes the cuntry UNSAFE, not safer.
Don't be crazy, Singapore. This is one thing you want to keep local and in 100% control at all times...of suffer the really, really bad consequences.
What defend country? It is a greying nation. Your men will be defending hair loss instead .

What for? Like animals lah. Save it for the MMA cage, charge money, make money.
Just learn how to shoot accurately. One Sig Sauer P226 9mm with 20 shot mag, a little short arse oldie like me can take down all the motherfuckers before I need to reload.
remember to put on your glasses before you aim or you may take down your fellowmen instead which is the most likely scenario.
ReplyDeleteoldies need their frequent naps before they can march, let alone pull the trigger or duck for covers when bullets are flying everywhere. Make sure you fight for your naps entitlement before you sign up for war ok?
ReplyDeleteJust came back from changi airport. Saw 2 army guys patrolling with rifles. About the same height as me. Not sure if their sizes can deter attacks, but hopefully the rifles could scare off some.

Is not the rifle, is the gorilla faces that will wet your panties
ReplyDeleteSinkies are trained to be industrial and office workers. They are as aggressive as the umbrella wielding foul mouth desk bound charbo. When their puny sizes, they will drop their guns more than the number of times they can pull the trigger
ReplyDeleteMatilar, if you use the 5.56mm round with those Bangla or ah nehs, the next will be worst as you would be facing the the ah nehs army and navy plus airforce. U think they let u Suka Suka kill their fellow national meh?
ReplyDeleteWith their puny sizes
ReplyDeleteWith a gun in the hand, the size is not relevant. It is the mindset, the dare to fire and kill. The most frightening soldiers during the rule of the Khmer Rouge were the little boys and girls, pre teens. When they came knocking at your door at night, habis. And they are only 3 to 4 feet tall.,
ReplyDeleteThe rifle is not cruel, the gorilla behind the rifle is. Sinkies cruelty is only to the extend of bullying dogs and cats when people are not looking.
ReplyDeleteYes Mr Chua, those are not kids. Those have been raised in salvage environment. Sinkies kids, on the other hand, are pampered by Disney dolls and angry bird games. They are like Amos...when hugged from behind will shout...help me help me
ReplyDeleteAnyone helped Amos? They were trigger happy with their iphones
ReplyDeleteDo you think Sinkie Police Force only know how to arrest teenage Singaporean boys with a massive group of five policemen?
ReplyDeleteBut when it comes to arresting rioting Indians; they only know how to flee in a massive show of cowardice?
Hi Virgo
ReplyDeleteLike RB said, size is not the matter. It's the rifles and the skills. You know Bruce Lee? He's quite small build. Heard he could defeat his opponent 3 times bigger than him (with no rifles or pistols).
I guess our men are trained in handling situation like this. Last week newspaper reported they're training a team to tackle the "T" situation and public can sms during those situation. So they're getting ready.

They can't even stomach chopping chicken heads let alone human heads lol
Currently Singapore has 5.5millions population 2.2millions are foreigners. Why should foreigners be left out of defense? That is not fair to do. During the Little India inquiry, the commissioner spoke a shortage of 1000 police officers.
ReplyDeleteThe increase to 6.9million population in 13 years time will make the 1000 shortage to 10000. The more crimes the more police officers will need. Where can Desmond Choo find the police officer? Hire from Malaysia is the known way. In future, the foreigners staying in Singapore must be enlisted to do police jobs while citizens are asked to do in Defense using riffle.
This problem of 6.9 millions population is approaching very soon. Yet RB is talking about Desmond s silly idea.
The defense must be outsourced like IT jobs, Bank CEO jobs, like MRT CEO jobs. If Chief of Army is USA General Harris, for example, he will sail around singapore and dancing all the night with singapore residents. How nice.
Singapore makes no F16. USA has F35 now. Outsource airforce to USA will allow US fighters to be based here. China will be scared shitless.
Singapore should also outsource its citizenship to USA. The we singapore citizens can apply for Green Cards. How nice to be angmor hor. Doing NS in a small little city is very risky when US wants to fight with China. Singaporeans with green cards can run off faster. If not 7 millions population with foreigners as majority, NS of less than 100k active soldiers is not enough to defend internal riots with 4 millions foreigners, 3 millions citizens.
Joke aside dudes, think carefully: if the place goes riot, there is not enough police + NS force to impose check points along the roads and stopping demonstrations and violence.
Police + NS is probably only 30k to 40k really can function type. That will include traffic police.
So out source NS is the most effective, together with some police positions: if the politicians must have 4 millions foreigners living in 10 years time.
Vote WP is clean: only 5.9millions population is allowed.
Can you envision malaysians war with sinkies? they will hurl chao CB and chao LJ at each other. Gun and rifles are fashion accessories lah

Beaten until scurried like chickens.
Luckily saved by their Black asses cannons painted white and mistaken by the Short sighted PLA general.
Latest news their ammo dumb got burned and exploded.
How to take care of their nudes when ammo dump also burned.
In 1967, was asked to help build up the SAF.
Luckily they don't wanna.
Israel came.
If not our instructors said have to polish the toe nails instead of boots.
Also carried canes to whack the rioters.
Hey, if you go to a country and caused riots, you think they don't give you bullets for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
What's rights you demanded that you have to protect you.
See any castrophe or disaster in india.

The saviours must really thank gods if they are saved.
India will win a war by talking big. Just ask them what happened in 1962.
ReplyDeleteOutsource or not, the opposition will still not be ready to be govt.
ReplyDeleteSo majority Sinkies (include new Sinkies) will vote for PAP to be govt.
And new Sinkies, if they are interested to be in politics, will join PAP to make PAP even stronger.
Because why would Sinkies, including new Sinkies, want to join the Sinkie opposition? Why would they want to be a loser?
When they started to outsource our security, in their minds this is no longer a country. And they still make our young men to serve NS.
ReplyDeleteI have a different opinion on the motivation behind Desmond Lee's Defense cannot be outsourced. I think he's justifying 2 years NS + ? years reservist for ALL SG boys. He's saying that PR & foreigners boys and men cannot be part of our defense.
ReplyDeleteTo me, since the number of Singaporeans and non-singaporeans living here is about the same (in a few years time), it is really unfair that only our boys have to protect this country. Non-SG boys should do their part. After all, SG belongs to everyone!
Virgo 49, please lar. Singapore is not China lar. India got defeated by China does not mean India will be defeated by Singapore. They are one billion population, they fart only and we are short of oxygen to breath.
ReplyDeleteMost politicians main hobby is to make lives difficult for the people. Often they used foreigners to screw the people such as the open door policy in sg and eu. They are all suffering from schadenfreude. It comes as a package with power. Never ever let one politician retain more than a term.
ReplyDeleteotherwise it is too late.
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteWhat is actually happening now is that border and checkpoint security are mainly outsource to State Own Security Agencies namely Cisco, Aetos and the Many Other Auxiliary Police Forces. These State Own Security Agencies employ mostly Malaysians and few Singaporeans to secure the Vital Checkpoints, Border and Installations.
Due to their familiarity with the Workplaces and close relationships with their fellow own countrymen who are aliens, our security and safety invariably get compromised and Sinkies are put at risk.
How the Regime has come to put Sinkies at risk and then demand and expect Sinkies to defend and protect the People and the Land is OBVIOUSLY INCONSISTENT AND INCONGRUENT.
It just does not make sense, especially when our young males are conscripted into the Military and are paid a pittance for doing so.
And who are we protecting?

ReplyDeleteIf the situation is such that we need to be "scaring off" people who would potentially harm us, then we're totally screwed :-)
The young blokes patrolling the airport in uniform with assault weapons are there for the peace of mind of civilian travelers...that's all.
And no, I don't believe most of them can shoot accurately.
What you (and most people) fail to notice are the armed security personnel in CIVILIAN CLOTHING, and the face and behaviour recognition, and threat-aware software that the airport is running as they gather live intel from the hundreds of cameras all over the place.
There could also be US Spec Ops personnel on "special attachment" to MINDEF or Ministry of Home Affairs on "special duty" at Changi.
And lets not forget the "sky marshals" (aka air marshal) with their H & K and Sig Sauers firing frangible ammo (which doesn't penetrate aircraft fuselage). Air marshals are excellent shots---they have the HIGHEST RATED firearms qualifications, and probably are expert at "Mozambique" style---aka "triple tap", 2 rounds to the chest, 1 to the head.
Airline pilots are now also armed, but I doubt think they carry weapons out of their aircraft.
There are probably more legal weapons at Changi than the govt would openly admit. The young Singaporeans walking around with their SAR 21s and MP5s are essentially just for show.
Hi Matilah
Delete"What you (and most people) fail to notice are the armed security personnel in CIVILIAN CLOTHING". Ah silly me, why didn't I think of that?
As for whether can shoot well or not, as long as there're enough bullets to go around, the chances of hitting the target (if within a good shot range), is high. (Well, I'm no expert so I could be wrong).
Still I hope that we should recruit more locals into our homeland security since it's a fact that we're in shortage of such personnel. Training takes time. I'm sure money is not a problem.

Are you sure that the perceived "shortage" is a "fact"? How did you arrive at that conclusion?
You don't see, and the govt keeps quiet about such matters...only a few people know.
>> Training takes time. <<
To be able to shoot accurately in high stress situations requires more than just time. ;-) Probably the most important aspect is the quality of the instructors and the instruction/ courses delivered. And practice. Lots and lots of DELIBERATE PRACTICE
Trainees have to be shooting all the time in training situations which simulate possible real-life scenarios. "Bad guys" can and will shoot indiscriminately---hitting unarmed civilians---even children---is not a problem to them. However the security folks shooting back must do so effectively and accurately (i.e. kill the bad guys) and not hit any civilians.
In the recent police siege (rescue) at the Lindt Cafe in Sydney (a terrorist situation), one of the hostages was killed by a ricocheting police bullet. Go watch the clips at YouTube. Confined space, absolute chaos and disorientation...mistakes and mishaps can and probably will happen. And everything happens really fast.
Hi Matilah
DeleteYou asked:"Are you sure that the perceived "shortage" is a "fact"? How did you arrive at that conclusion?" I remember one head of xx admitted that we don't have enough SPOs during the little India inquiry. (I can't recall the exact statement). If someone here remember, please share. (But if I do remember wrongly, my apologies).
I'd tried a few shooting practice (bloody expensive here). Definitely not easy even the practice target is stationary. No amount of practice can equip you for real live situation. But I can say the higher stress level an individual can endure would be an advantage.
As citizens, we must play a part. Spot any suspicious activity, do call SPF.
Cheers
SG Girl
@ SG Girl:
ReplyDelete>> one head of xx admitted that we don't have enough SPOs during the little India inquiry. <<
Of course he would say that. That doesn't make it true, but now I understand how you arrived at your conclusion.
Yup. Shooting moving targets whilst you yourself are on the move is bloody hard. And yes, sports shooting in Singapore is outrageously expensive. It's a few thousand in joining fees to only 2 publicly accessible gun clubs.
I paid $10 to join my first Aussie gun club over 20 years ago.
So you know it is not true. How do you know?
