Interviewing a political candidate

The setting was in a posh hotel. It was done to impress the candidates that this is the right place to be, to be in the right company and everything is fine, first class stuff. All the riches money can buy. The décor and ambience were like those gold bullions and diamond bucket shops, a façade done to impress the impressionable, with superficial finesses.

The candidates must be awed by the opulence of such an interview setting. It is like walking into the temple of god, and in the company of gods. And the godlike interviewers will field their cleverly crafted questions to assess the candidates, at the same time to impress them that the interviewers are the super talents and assessing the super talents wannabes. The unspoken ethos, you need to get pass them to be seen as good enough to be a super talent. They will assess the candidate’s potential and aspiration.

In the course of a few days of interviews, the candidates tried their very best to be the one to be selected and they will muster the most ingenious ways, at times queer, but always different, to impress the godlike interviewers. Some will bring themselves so low, to prove humility, that they are in politics to serve the people, anything but for personal glory and money. They don’t mind becoming social workers, very highly paid social workers, to look after the oldies and the poor, the special needs children, a very noble sense of wanting to give to the downtrodden, to care for them. Some would go down one level further by confessing their greatest love for animals, the non sentient beans. They rather care for animals than the already blessed human beans.

The smarter ones will try to game the system. They did their homework and know what the interviewers were looking for. So they showed off their management skills and said they want to manage town councils. They know that the skill to run town council is a mandatory skill to run a country. Anyone that is incapable of running a town council means no good to run a country. Instant failure. They would not mind being paid $16,000 pm or more with the perks, to brag how well they can sweep floors and make sure public toilets are clean, and the roads have no pot holes.

The not so bright ones, who thought they are brighter, would tell the interviewers their aspirations to be great politicians, great leaders and even want to chase the rainbows, and be prime ministers or ministers. They want to live with the true spirit of meritocracy and being high achievers.

The interview is a very serious process to pick out the deserving candidates to be politicians, to be paid in the millions, at least $16,000 a month to start with, and only part time. Many candidates were picked and shortlisted, and after the interviews, many more days and nights would be spent sorting out the real and good stuff from the pretenders.

Finally, after a long wait, the list will be announced. Those aspiring to be road sweepers, to manage town councils are chosen. Those wanting to be highly expensive social workers or animal lovers were also desirable candidates, the type of people to become political leaders and to look after the welfare of animals in the islands, like stray dogs and cats. Those that want to be great leaders, to run the country, to be ministers and prime ministers, were unfortunately not chosen. Who needs such ambitious brats? There are enough godlike talents and the pyramid at the top is very narrow. No room for smart alecs and bright and ambitious politicians.

The interviewers studied their needs very carefully and picked the right people to fill in the slots from the best candidates available. They need town council managers, not political leaders, they need people who have a big heart for the down trodden, for the poor animals. They need people to sweep the floors and clean toilets. There is no need for real leaders, leaders that can solve national issues. They already have plenty of them in the stables. What, glorified and over paid social workers and animal lovers? Are they being paid too much for what they are doing? Not really, unless you want to employ foreign workers to do these jobs.

My inspiration for the above story comes from the Animal Farm. It is 100% fictional and would be good for another 100 years as a political piece of crap.

  1. Pionner batch all as equals no interviews.

Fanned by the desires to serve as nation like a new born baby in poverty.

    Agreed quickly who shall lead.

Now interviews like jobs applicants or maybe atas sakit heads hunting or thru connections.

Wayang, wayang must be diverse backgrounds.

Animals lovers, talkers like tv personalities. Even handicapped in wheelchair to show their generosity.

You think these jobs applicants for high class road sweepers,
Social workers kissing babies and aunties dared to go against their bosses or interviewers???

Some more part time with many privileges and high salaries.

    Goes against the flow??

Now even Opposition candidates in into their House after enjoying the benefits also became numb with the new found wealth.

So just play along and as Treasury still got billions or even trillions, better changkul before they are finished.

We will have enough to last our and children lifetime so why care so much.

    Thank you you 70% Supporters.

  2. "Are they being paid too much for what they are doing?"
    RB

It depends on who you ask and also under what situation.

In war time, when food is scarce, even poor quality food can fetch very high prices.

In peace time, when a better alternative is non-existent, even poor quality ministers and MPs can fetch high salaries. And also can afford not to even attend Parliament sessions most of the time.

Of course, if you ask these poor quality ministers and MPs, they will say they deserve their high salary what. In a way, also quite true lah, tio bo? Who ask you not to have a better alternative?

  3. Oops should be 100% including those who voted the Opposition.

Only those still hungry not in the House yet, hopefully like Chee Soon Juan
Still have the fire to fight for the downtrodden.

But hopefully after few years in Luxurious House, maybe will follow the Workers Party and just keep mum.

    Cheers

  4. In America, if you want to look after animals;
you just go ahead and do it.
"Just do it" is the guiding principle.

    In other countries, if you want to look after animals;
    you must get permission first.
"Government say can or not ah?" is the guiding principle.

In a small island, we need citizens to be creative, brave and ingenious to be world class.
    - how do you rate our chances under a PAP government?

  5. Have you all wonder why they still have not announce the date for the Bukit Batok By election?

Is it to make Chee Soon Juan work very hard on the ground for a longer time but in the end still lose?

  6. The job of interviewers is oso never easy.

In fact they should be paid highly for this very very difficult interviewing process!

They have to select right people that are able to perform MULTI-TASKS at the same time.

To the candidates, what is the $16,000.00..."wet-wet-water"!

That income is nothing! That is small change!

Heard that one politician were appointed as director to more than 50 organisations!

    Ha ha ha.....indeed superman, super-talent!

So now you know, as a interviewer, is never an easy task. Difficult! Difficult!

    Cheers.

Why not? I think if Chee Soon Juan can win the BB By election, he may also be appointed a director in an organisation. Or at least to grace their functions.

Membership has its privileges, even if you are in opposition. Just that you will get fewer privileges.

Straits Times: 5,000 gather in NY to enjoy a 'slice of home'
    ===============================================================
NEW YORK: About 4,900 Singaporeans turned up in New York on Saturday to 'mingle and makan' at the fifth Singapore Day.

The $4 million cost of staging the event, however, has raised questions.

Minister of State for Health Amy Khor, who was at the event, said: 'There's a value to helping our Singaporeans remember their roots so that if they ever go back, it's easier for them to adjust. You can't put a price on that.'

But if you are a Bukit Batok resident, you deserve a meeting and handshake with Murali or Chee Soon Juan.

"Split up the banks that are speculating with depositor and government funds.
Investment banks are supposed to risk investors’ money but commercial banks should return to lending fairly and carefully to help create a foundation for future growth.
Bernie Sanders is the only independent candidate who escapes the malaise of being bought. He is paid for by the people and represents their interests. And you can take that to the bank."

    What about Sovereign Wealth Funds?
Who will ask these types of questions in parliament?

  14. " The recession of 2007-2016, and the persistent transfer of wealth from the 80% to the 1% is, mostly the result of banking irresponsibility precipitated by the repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act in 1999. The law separated commercial banking (responsible for gathering and conservatively lending out funds) from investment banking (more speculative activities).

A new culture emerged that rewarded bankers for return on equity rather than sound lending practices. The wild west of risk-taking, staked on depositors’ money, became the best sport in town. Why not? If management won, they got rich. When they lost, the taxpayer took on the responsibility. If that sounds like a good wager, it was (and is). "

  19. Post Turtle
    --------------
Eventually the topic got around to Obama and his bid to
    be president.
The old rancher said, "Well, ya know, Obama is a
    "post turtle".
Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked him what
    a "post turtle" was.

    The old rancher said,
"When you're driving down a country road and you
come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top,
    that's a "post turtle".

The old rancher saw a puzzled look on the doctor's
face, so he continued to explain.

You know he didn't get up there by himself, he doesn't belong up there, he
doesn't know what to do while he is up there, and you
just wonder what kind of a dumb ass put him up there in the
    first place.

  20. This party s way of looking for candidates shows the party s pool of members are stupid dumb and daft. They cannot find from the pool of members and volunteers to stand for election? So the pool of members are only flags carriers, and cleaners after rallies?

If that is the normal, then the party will stand a good chance to lose in election. If it is the ruling party s way, i guess it is the reason why the party has such a high record of mp using other peoples legal wives to park their penis. Mp s free parking for cars is not enough, said to be subsidized. 2/80 or 1/40 is 0.025 or 2.5% chance for an elected mp from the ruling party to park free in other peoples wives cb. The selection process skips the volunteer under study part, widely applied in opposition parties.

Only that party that has no one want to volunteer to join it has this kind of selection process for politicians. I dont pity them. Do u?

    definitely in good hands.

Sifu matilar will ensure that Race and Culture will not be discriminated and his disciple agongkia will make certain that the candidates are able to think without using their brains.

  25. Those who did well in higher learning are the best candidates for that kind of ruthless hypocritical jobs because they have achieved the disciplines to look and judge by hard cold facts. Lawyers or scribes are excellent candidates.

The second group of people most suited are the religious type because they are subjected to the same kind of disciplines but are blinded by heavenly visions. They also have a need to tell you how to keep your toilet clean after they use it.
