What
is MOM’s data on employment saying? Total growth in employment for 2015 is
23,300 compared to 131,300 and 122,100 in 2013 and 2014 respectively. Of these,
local employment, or Singaporeans and permanent citizens took up 700 jobs
compared to 82,900 and 96,000 for 2013 and 2014.
The
data told of a shrinking economy with lesser jobs being created and lesser jobs
going to Singaporeans and PRs. Of the 700 that went to Singaporeans and PRs,
how many went to Singaporeans? 50% or less?
Each
year’s citizen cohort by birth and coming into the job market is about 33,000.
Even if only 50% of the cohort is seeking employment, that is 16,500. Add
another 15,000 imports of foreigners, the total number of job seekers would be
31,500.
If
the job market continues to shrink or remain at a level less than 30,000, many
Singaporeans would have problem looking for a job. When job creation were in
the 100,000s, things were ok though some Singaporeans were still finding it
tough to land a job, especially the PMEs,
how bad would it become if job creation is in the 20,000 level?
Are
we heading into a recession? Analysts are saying a recession is around the
corner and the worse is yet to be.
Rb, no recession lar. Best indicator is COE. People still willing to pay $45,000 for a piece of paper. The piece of paper is several times more expensive than the car!

Q: Are we heading into a recession?
ReplyDeleteYup, and it will probably be a bad one. If there's no recession, the world (including Singapore) will grind along at anemic growth rates of 1-2+% which is not enough to sustain employment growth.
Also many automated systems, processes and DISRUPTIVE TECHNOLOGIES are emerging which will negatively impact the job market. So yes, there is HUGE GROWTH in certain areas in the tech sector.
One of the latest potential game-changers is in its nascent stage....barely a year or two old and unknown to the majority of people. It's called ETHEREUM and is going to be a BIG HEADACHE for govt. policy makers and law enforcement agencies like the FBI, who seems to think that breaking into people's phones is a "good idea" and how we should all lay down and allow The Man to fuck us again. Ethereum is going to fuck many people up. For anarcho-capitalists like myself, it is a gift from heaven! πΌ
The idea now is no longer "life time employment". That's gone forever, kaput, dead and confined to the dustbin of history. What is the new world order of the day is lifetime EMPLOYABILITY....if you can't or won't create VALUE, you're going to be dinosaurus extinctus.
To the 30%, here's some good advice from Sylvester Stallone
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZywfAm7Q9E
P.S. At some point people will have to stop using the tired old bromide: History repeats itself
ReplyDeleteNo sir. We as a species are at a point of technologically-driven and social, political, cultural and economic dismemberment. Everything we know and stuff we're not even aware of is being torn asunder and new stuff we cannot even imagine is coming online. History itself is being written like never before, in ways that never existed before.
If you're still using the phrase History repeats itself, you are probably going to end up dinosaurus extinctus.
Goodbye, hope your life was good, sorry you don't have the necessary evolutionary muscle to remain in existence. You're OUT of the GENE POOL! π ππ½ππ½
// Each year’s citizen cohort by birth and coming into the job market is about 33,000.//
ReplyDeleteUncle RB, this 33,000 figure only applies to those cohort born between 2010 to 2015?
For those coming of age and joining the job market, that is 21 years old and older in 2013, 2014 and 2015 respectively, they were cohorts of 1992, 1993 and 1994 ........
In 1992, about 50,000 babies were born ......
In 1993, about 49,000+ babies ......
1994, about 48,000+ babies ......
These data are available in the garment website ......
Nonetheless, less those leaving the labour force ( retiring or giving up totally to look for jobs ), it does imply that the employment growth in 2015 alone is grossly insufficient to absorb young adult Singaporeans joining the labour market?
The other side of the coin means sinkies unemployment rate would have crept or gone up in 2015 bcos 48,000+ sinkies ( those born in 1994 ) would have turned 21-yo?
Averaging out those born between 1990 to 1994 joining the labour market in 2015, due to further studies, NS etc, at age between 21 to 25, and nett off those leaving the labour force, an estimated net total of about 20,000+ sinkies could have entered the labour market in 2015 alone ......?
So with only 700 net jobs created in 2015 and mostly going to PRs, the net loss in employment for sinkies could total more than 30,000 in 2015 if yiew pore over the statistics and read between the data given sinkies are lumped in same data group with PRs?
Btw, IBs, the above are all positive and NOT normative statements ...... meaning stating FACTS and not value judgement. ...... please report to your ROs and masters properly ...... and DO NOT stir "shits" .......?

Recession is good. Depression is better. Why?? Becoz this is the only way for Sinkies to wake up and to clean the corruption from govt & parliament & ministries now. This is also the only way to get rid of the 2,000,000 FTrash on this island. OK, 500,000 are good Trash and we really do need them. But 1,500,000 of them are real pure Trash that should be incinerated ASAP.
ReplyDeleteMS, lifetime employability is not new. I already instinctively know about this in the mid-1990s when I was in my 20s. It's whether Sinkies really think critically and take actions into their own hands, rather than going with the flow or following what their father, mother, PAP, straits times say.

Agongkia u think recession is a funny thing? Many families will be devastated and many men won't be able to bring food to the family. It's a tragedy and many people will suffer. When it happens to you, instead of u hugging Mei Mei with the few dollars that u earned every month, u may need to sell your backside to FT for a living and as you are already old, pricing will be poor and u may need a few customers each day. Imagine the feeling that something is stuck into your ass when u are suppose to use your ass to pass motion each day. Instead of coming out its being push back and I don't think u will find it comfortable. Some more as the FT screwed your ass, he may stretch his both hands from behind playing your small Canon and two flat tires. Then you think by then it's good to have recession or not.
ReplyDeleteI know in your mind you think when recession arrived, u are going to take advantage of many Mei Mei but u never know that your towkay may fired you and u ended up being taken advantage of by the FT. So please think again.
Agongkia, I agreed with 4.42 pm anon. Not only u can't take advantage of Mei Mei, may be your Mother, sisters and daughters have to earn money from Other locals or FT and spread their legs too. Is that what you wanted to happen in a recession. So Knn think before u post ok?

If one is a good worker at all times,no worry about retrenchment.
Learn a lesson .Work smart,be loyal and contribute long hours .Recession is the time to see many who work hard being rewarded.Time for those chialeowbee PMETs to change vocation ,who knows they can become towkay one day :-)

RB needs not to brink eyes for low job creation. If citizens need the new jobs from the 30000 created and they cannot get 1, the fault lies on the new graduates. Their parents voted in 70% favor to create low job opportunity prince. The prince has done it over years so that banks can lend money easily to buyers to commit them with property to push up the business space rental. JTC increased rental by 100% up in past years. Horay.
ReplyDeleteFirms move out quickly to malaysia. This policy works for 15 to 20 years: high rental? hire foreigners, no cpf.
When firms move out, there are less jobs, so what. When rental move up, the S$ will go up. That is real gain.
In business eg, Sell fishballs to Japan can still make good money, higher S$ mah.
Dont bother about Singapore. Let it move up the cost and move down the jobs number among citizens. Can the shops open without customers taking out cash to buy? Eventually, there is a d day.
Emptied shops or emptied factories spaces, high rental continues, less new jobs, retailers cannot meet rental, the elites : they will come in like super man to help firms in trouble to reduce cost, open up inward flooding of hiring foreigners without cpf.
The elites continue to look at their cpf statements smiling each month.
Endurance game has long started. The daft did not realize it. Can the daft can endure joblessness till 2020? Can: they re vote the same men and women into the hall again?
They will, as the daft parents and sons love to be in troubles. And elites are doing the same again and again selling lands, moving the local dollar up, giving more jobs to foreigners to help firms lower high rental cost, and looking at their cpf statement smiling each month.
There is nothing NEW they can do correct, they tell u. market is bad mah, china is not buying, usa is not buying. NOT buying what? the expensive and useless stuff produced from sinkies land. S Koreans are not so bad lah.

There are many ( sinkies ) who are just simply "colorectal" .....?
That's why they get the ( same ) garment they deserved?
When many ( sinkies ) are "colorectal", obviously IBs are too since they are a subset of the sample space?
Thus, anon 4.42pm "foresee colorectal prostitution" as the endgame for one?
Karma is a bitch?
When one becomes too "colorectal" by being a slave to similar master, chances of karma come knocking to mete out colorectal prostitution as punishment is but inevitable?
During WWII, many ζ±ε₯Έ suffered terrible karmic fates in the end?
"Colorectal prostitution" may be the lightest karmic "punishment for some ( colorectal sinkies )?
Agongkia, I think you still think recession is a funny thing that u can take it lightly. The various anons advice are serious stuff that you should consider carefully. If u think going overseas is an option when retrenched then u would have done it already rather then wait for that moment to come and got push into the corner. It just means that it's not a serious option or doable option.
ReplyDeleteIt's no fun selling your backside. It's demeaning to normal men. When u really Kena, then u kpkb also no use. U are old already so should enjoy your life and not subject yourself living as a duck as what Cantonese people said. Please wake up and treat the issue seriously. If not when tuakee visiting u, alamak tears will roll up in your eyes as u scream in pain while tuakee enjoys more as tuakee thinks u are also enjoying and scream in climax.
@652am
ReplyDeleteTwo attempts to write my view on why recession is good but fail to appear here so I will not continue again.
Recession may not be a bad thing after all.
Like agongkia, I also LUUURVE recessions or severe economic downturns. At the moment in Australia, we are experiencing a severe downturn...with hopefully more room to go down even further. Recessions are the time for a "vehicle upgrade" as dealers have to slash prices to stay viable. For e.g. you can pick up a low-milage late model Merc, Audi or BMW for around 25-30k if you are prepared to bargain hard. If you are a new car buyer, you also "win" as dealers all break out in cold sweat at the huge unsold inventory sitting in their yards or on the docks. ππ½
ReplyDeleteDuring a recession, you don't want to be the one selling backside. You want to be a BUYER of backsides: i.e. EXPLOIT the dire financial situations of those suckers who kena pluck by the economic downturn which was COMMON KNOWLEDGE for the last 8 years or so. We never recovered from the 2008 GFC. What govts. did was to print money and just "delay the inevitable".
Recessions are good for clearing out the "shit" in the system, which includes getting rid of irrelevant good-for-nothing over-priced workers to make your business enterprise leaner and meaner, so that you WIN, which is the whole idea.
In many Aust cities, commercial space in their CBD's are at a high and growing. You can get office space for a song. Very soon, like the last recession, they'll be offering 5 years rent FREE if only you would sign a lease. π
The number of people LEAVING Australia has been growing quickly, especially in the last year or so. This has contributed to the deflation in retail, auto and housing prices which means the "backside buyers" (aka "exploiters") are having a grand old time picking up high quality, high value items at low prices. ππ
agongkia correct. If you don't understand the enormous benefits of economic downturn, you could well be DAFT. π
Desperate times calls for motivated enterprise. At some busy traffic lighted intersections in Aus and NZ, some enterprising individuals have taken it on themselves to wash car windows in expectation of $2 "tip" for their services. Lights usually timed at around 2-3 minutes from red to green, which means if you are good you can do 2, maybe 3 cars everytime there's a red light. Let's say the red-green-red sequence is 5 minutes, means there will be 12 sequences per hour. if you do 2 cars at $4 in total, you'll make $48 for the hour...not bad, since you only need a squeegee, a spray bottle, some cleaning fluid and rags. If you work just 2 hr peak periods---one morning, one evening---that's 4 hours, you can earn $200 per day, 5 days work $1000...really, not bad if you are JOBLESS.
ReplyDeleteHowever Australia is not known for allowing people to make money easily or encouraging risk taking and entrepreneurship, the cops have put a stop to this great PRIVATE ENTERPRISE, essentially fucking up motivated poor people who are willing to do work in order to be SELF SUFFICIENT and SELF RELIANT and not depend on the dole.
Fuck the police!

Why "sigh"? These are the people who can be "exploited" for their fixed ideas. This is how you make money. π
P.S. I'm no one's sifu lah. I'm just an average guy.
