Steve Chia withdraws from MacPherson SMC

On Sunday morning Steve Chia wrote on his Facebook, ‘The trolls have won’ and announced his withdrawal from contesting in the MacPherson ward. He also said he would not contest in this GE. In the same message he commented that Tin Pei Ling was not a strong candidate and wished the WP well in the election.

This is a big contrast to his earlier angry remarks, attacking WP for not responding to the overtures by NSP during the husting to prevent a 3 corner fight. And the NSP CEC’s decision to send in a team was somewhat a reaction to WP’s stance, a kind of defiance. If WP was aloof, they would put in a team to challenge them.

The events following NSP’s decision to engage in a 3 corner fight was not well received and social media went on overdrive to dig out every scrap of juicy news of Steve Chia’s past and the nude episode with his maid. This might prove too much for Steve Chia. The heat was too hot to take and would not go away at least till the GE if Steve Chia were to contest MacPherson. Steve Chia also admitted that he had to take care of his family and their feelings and thus this withdrawal.

Steve Chia is not the only victim of this saga. NSP’s President Sebastian Teo also had his dirty linen brought out for airing. According to an article in the TRE, Sebastian Teo was charged in court for corruption and was bankrupted. The information was not volunteered or disclosed to the NSP. Netizens wondered aloud why such sensitive information was not raised by the PAP, suggesting something fishy in the matter. They openly concluded that NSP is a mole party of the PAP or at least many members of the CEC were. Of course these were just allegations and difficult to prove.

The biggest loser is of course NSP. NSP has lost all credibility after this incident. It appears to be a wishy washy party and acting rashly, even negated on its commitment, on its words not to engage in 3 corner fights. The comments in the social media have put NSP as a party with no standing in the eyes of the electorate, a questionable party with a hazy background. It would not be easy for NSP to redeem itself from this mess and to regain its credibility as a trustworthy  opposition party.

Whether NSP is really a mole party is now immaterial. The immediate impact is that it has a lot to answer and given the imminent GE, it does not have time on its side to do damage control. The fate of NSP in this GE is as good as gone with the wind. Many netizens have been calling the NSP to withdraw from the GE and allow other opposition parties to replace them in the constituencies they have choped for the GE.

Maybe NSP may just have to do it to show some sincerity, take a break to explain what actually happened, to rebuild the trust of the people. Failure to win back the people’s trust could see it being thrashed in the GE and losing their deposits as well.

Who are the trolls? This is a question in everyone’s mind.

  1. If I were a mole of PAP or agents of PAP, I would act and behave exactly like Steve Chia, Sebastian Teo, Desmond Lim etc. In fact even for "madcow" Goh Meng Seng, there is also more to it than meets the eye.

Because no Sinkie, unless need IMH checkup, will want to act and behave the way they did. It simply doesn't make sense, if they understand Singapore politics.

And yes, why didn't PAP raised this Sebastian Teo matter in previous elections which he contested? Their silence speaks volumes.

  2. NSP is not only a broken party without any credible members left, but is also now a party associated with a leader with a criminal record. Corruption to the tune of $62,000 in 1975 is no small matter. At that time, this amount of money could buy you more than a condominium (think Lagoon view or Lagoona Park condominium which cost $42,000 then). NSP is now an untouchable pariah party fit for the sewer. If it does not pull out of the next GE on its own, other opposition parties should intervene to ensure a 3-corner fight particularly in Sembawang GRC and Tampines GRC.

  3. Like it or not, in a GE, Ting Pei Ling will win MacPherson SMC.

Simply because at constituency level, majority Sinkie voters there do not see any better benefit for them if they voted for WP.

And as PAP will also most likely return to power after the GE with at least a 2/3 majority, it also doesn't really matter much at national level even if WP win MacpPherson.

Hence Ting Pei Ling will win. And most likely so will 90% of PAP candidates. Not much different from GE 2011 outcome really, as there is also not much difference for opposition in terms of their strength and unity, let alone ready to be govt, as compared to 2011.

  4. NSP internal issues & actions has confirmed itself as a gone case party. No creditability, no substance, no reputation etc.
SDP have disappointed voters in sembawang grc & should return to contest.
Notice some opps parties have very big egos and cant see an inch from their nose.
Dont forget people are now more educated & well informed and can see through their bullshit and insincerity.

  5. NSP or SDA or even a monkey.
As long as they are standing against a PAPig, I will vote for them.
    Anybody but PAP.
    Say NO to PAP.

Do you want to lose your job to an Alien?we
Do you want your CPF money back at 55 years old as promised?
There is no choice other than to vote out PAP?

  6. The big oppo parties should sit down and reassess the situation in view of this development and take over the GRCs and SMCs handed to the NSP and SDA. Just ignore the two parties and if they want to go for 3 corner fights so be it.

These two parties are irrelevant in the GE. The game has changed and they would not be in the minds of voters.

  8. NSP raised the white flag in MacPherson without fighting and declared the trolls won.

    What do you think?

  9. Me has no background knowledge of any political parties, even if I do, there is no guarantee that political party can change like the Proverbial 狐狸变外婆 or vice-versa, meaning turnibg good to bad.
Most Sinkies tends to be reminiscent of how good the PAP WAS IN THE PAST. And how long ago was that past? It varies with individuals.
THE CRONIES WILL ASSURE YOU, PAP WAS GOOD IN THE PAST, BETTER TODAY AND 'BETTERER' TOMORROW WITH PROMISE OF TO WORK FOR THE BEST FOR YOU FOREVER.

I happened to be a volunteer for NSP in the 2011 Election, NOT BECAUSE I KNOW NSP OR IMPRESSED WITH ITS' CANDIDATES.
IT WAS BECAUSE I HAVE 2 OBSERVATIONS THAT PIQUE ME AND THEY ARE MORE THREATENING THAN EVER CURRENTLY.
CRONYISM AND THE MILITARY FOLKS IN THE REGIME.
BOTH ARE CLOSELY RELATED IN MY OPINION AND I AM STEADFAST AT IT.
IT WILL NOT AUGUR WELL FOR THE PEOPLE IF THE COMBINED 2 WORK HAND IN HAND TO HOLD ONTO THE POWER.

IT WAS ALSO BECAUSE MY CYBER BUDDY GILBERT GOH CAME BACK FROM AUSTRALIA AND HE JOINED NSP AS A CANDIDATE FOR TAMPINES GRC IN 2011.
I DID HOUSE VISITS WITH GOH MENG SENG, GILBERT GOH AND OTHER VOLUNTEERS.
WE WENT ABOUT PUTTING UP POSTERS, BANNERS AND RALLIES WITH GOH MENG SENGS' ELDER BROTHER WHO WORKED EXTREMELY HARD ONLY TO PASS ON BEFORE POLLING DAY. IT WAS INDEED A VERY SAD EPISODE.

Personally, I WILL NEVER SUSPECT GOH MENG SENG AND GILBERT GOH FOR BEING MOKES OR AGENTS OF THE REGIME.

Must say here that NSP performed well in 2011 despite not winning any seat. The Margins of their losses to PAP were very marginal.

Likewise as in 2011 GE, I am wishing that ALTERNATIVE PARTIES CAN CAUSE A REGIME CHANGE, ESPECIALLY SO THIS TIME.
IF THE REGIME IS NOT DISLODGE IN THE COMING GENERAL ELECTION,
THERE SHALL BE NO MORE OPPORTUNITY.
AS IT IS MORE MILITARY AND POLICE COMMANDERS ARE BROUGHT INTO THE REGIME.
    WHAT IS THE REASON?
RIGHTLY OR WRONG, I AM NATURALLY REMINDED OF THE WARNING BY THE LATE LEE KUAN YEW, THAT THE ARMY WOULD BE DEPLOYED IF THERE IS A 'FREAK' ELECTION RESULT WHERE PAP IS DETHRONED.
SINKIES MUST NOT TAKE THIS WARNING LIKELY, FOR IT MEANS EITHER A JUNTA RULE OR AN OLIGARCHY. IT WILL MEAN THAT THE PEOPLE WILL BE RULED BY SOME POWERFUL FOLKS WITH IRON FISTS.

THERE IS A DIRE NEED TO END CRONYISM AND PREVENT THE ESTABLISHMENT OF JUNTA OR
    OLIGARCHY.
    TO DO SO
    SINKIES HAVE NO ALTERNATIVE
    BUT
    TO VOTE FOR
    ALTERNATIVE PARTIES
    NO MATTER THEY ARE TRUE
    OPPOSITIONS TO THE REGIME
    OR NOT.

  10. Stay away from NSP and save yourself from being a sucker. The cover is blown.
Gilbert did not know then. Goh Meng Seng still did not know today.

  11. I'm not able to either agree or disagree with what "patriot" said regarding Goh Meng Seng or Gilbert Goh in 6:25 p.m. above, because I don't know enough about those two.

But I'm here to strongly agree with what he said about Dealing with cancer / Remove the malignant tumour first / then seek cure.

The PAP is a malignant cancer, remove their candidates first. Do not try to be choosy over different opposition candidates. We don't have that luxury, not at the present stage. This is uniquely Singapore, at the present stage, we are in a situation that you should vote for any mole, monkey or donkey and kick the PAP out. This may sound insane but it's sensible in the present context, because if you allow PAP to govern, we will have 10 million population and Singaporeans bullied by foreigners, by Police and by PAP. And you'll never get to touch your CPF.

In the next round, we will remove any opposition who fails to perform (we can seek the cure); but if you fail to remove the PAP in this round, the cancer will still be there, only getting worse - you wont find any cure.

  12. Cancer is not malignant.
    Cancer is HoLee.
A very pure type of cancer.
    Very aristocratic and HoLee.

  13. This incident has double confirmed that NSP Is the proxy for PAP.
Their behaviors and revolving door policies plus putting a president or CEC with criminal records all points to their agenda to discredit and tarnish the collective opposition. Taped they were the only ones who constantly challenged WP and break news to the media.
It's wiritngs are all on the wall. And now we have situation where they choped these important GRCs and now will be disbanded due to these "scandals" and thus, allowing Incumbents to walk over.

I hope now peoples eyes are opened and bright. Stick to your WP , SDP and those whom PAP are eager to take down amd give problems.
