How long can
Singapore preserve this glittering image that keeps us standing a head above
many other countries? We built and crafted these qualities in Singaporeans for
several decades to produce a culture of trust and a people that are dependable
and trustworthy as second nature.
Now comes
the change. 50% or more of our population are foreigners, including many new
citizens. These people come from cultures and societies where cheating,
bribery, corruption and fakes are par for the course. And we are happily
integrating them into a Singaporean people that have moved away from those
value systems.
What would
be the impact to Singapore and Singaporeans? Would the foreigners become like
Singaporeans, imbibing Honesty and Integrity as a way of life, become more like
us? Or would the Singaporeans be diluted and we become more like them, and our
Honesty and Integrity brand becomes tarnished?
When coffee
is mixed with milk, you are not going to get black coffee or white milk.
Depending on the percentage of each item, you either get brown coffee or white
coffee. It would be lying to think that our Honesty and Integrity brand would
still be as shining as before.
Thank you
for your silly indiscriminate immigration policies. Talking about Honesty and
Integrity will be different today and it can only get worse. Even whiter than
white washing powder would not be able to remove all the coffee stain when you
have such a high concentrate of coffee in the mix. They could to some extend
remove transparency, honesty and integrity.
What have
you done to the pillars of Singapore’s successful brand with people from
cultures where corruption and cheating are a way of life?
Would the foreigners become like Singaporeans, imbibing Honesty and Integrity as a way of life, become more like us?
ReplyDeleteRB
If they become like that, then good lah.
If cannot, also bo pian (no choice) mah. Better than Singaporeans, due to their below replacement fertility rate, becoming extinct in the long term like the dinosaurs, tio bo?
Remember in life, just like voting for PAP, sometimes it is a choice between the lesser of 2 evils. And not choosing is also not an option.
ReplyDeleteGOODBYE SG50! HELLO SG100!
It took us many moons to integrate the major races we have
in Singapore into Singaporean sisters and brothers.
I am not against the gradual increase in population growth.
But, to integrate so many so many the NEW INSTANT citizens from
all corners of the world, yes may be possible, will take many
many many years. Furthermore, the task is NEVER NEVER NEVER easy.
Are we not worried with the expected increases in social ills,
such as cheating, bribery, corruption, fakes, etc etc etc. etc.?
How are these social ills going to affect our life here?
Growth at the expense of the social peace here is a NO! NO! NO!
Yes we have SG50!
Yes Happy SG50!
Goodbye SG50! Hello SG100!
Will Singaporeans have a happy and peaceful SG100?
Cheers.

ReplyDeleteDo you think redbean is only half right?
Do you think only the Singaporean peasants believed in honesty and integrity?
Do you think that maybe the Singaporean Aristocrats subscribed to the philosophy of "What's wrong with collecting more money?"
How much sincerity do you think has really gone into the honouring of Yousok Ishak?
ReplyDeleteOr is it Yousuk Ishak?
Or is it Yousuf Ishak?
Actually hor.
Maybe spelling is not important lah.
Maybe more important is to make a profit from selling commemorative items.
Money for (doing) nothing.
And the votes for free.
ReplyDeleteI cannot tell the difference between the 2 words but my ah kong said I am honest , never cheat ,never take advantage when i return the extra 2 dollar he accidentally put in the angpow he gave me .Since my sibling all got 2 dollar , no reason I got extra ....
When I grow up later...many say i am actually daft or gong ,not honest , its Gong. Can become rich by eloping with million dollar income man's tai tai but chose to go after ordinary meimei.....
Others sleep on the job can become richer n boss me around where I choose to work long hours but pay n pay..
To many of those who want instant fame n success there is no such thing as working hard, honesty or integrity to talk about.
Its who you know, heart black enough, got luck or not, whether you dare to go against your conscience and hurt others and enjoy at the expense of others suffering .
Honesty and integrity only make me being able to raise my head high and bring pride to my ancestors.
Tell me how many dare to sumpah they have honesty or integrity.
I dare Sumpah .
ReplyDeleteanonymous 9.26am pls kindly note ..........
Very unfortunate for the spelling mistake of the name of our first president.
The mistake is very serious.
BUT! BUT! Vvvery vvvery vvvery vvery very very very very very lucky!!!
So far, my greatest idol, our founding PM's name, were spelled correctly!
Otherwise...............etc etc etc etc........................
Indeed a very serious mistake. All the intended goodwill screwed up by a mistake like that.
ReplyDeleteThe Spelling Mistake luckily was minor.
ReplyDeleteImagine if it was Busok Ishak, Yusok Usuck or even Yusof Usuck.
Anyway,
HONESTY AND INTEGRITY HAVE BEEN
BADLY
COMPROMISED BY DESPOTISM, CRONYISM AND SOME EVEN SAID
NEPOTISM.
TIME TO REMOVE THE DIRT AND GRIME WITH NEW BROOMS OF DIFFERENT BRANDS.
THE OLD BROOMS ARE WORNED OUT AND BADLY MAINTAINED, SOME MIGHT HAD BEEN CONTAMINATED AND ARE DIRTY TO USE TO KEEP THE PLACE CLEAN.
And please be fair.
Aliens can ONLY CONTAMINATE OUR SOCIETY AND BE 'SCORCH' FREE
IF THEY ARE ALLOW TO.
OR
THEY ARE NOT
PUNISHED OR PUNISHED
HARD ENOUGH.
SO,
PART OR WHOLE OF THE
PROBLEMS ARE DUE TO
IN COMPETENCY OF THE
STATE MANAGERS AND THEIR
CEO(OF SIN)
patriot
I have seen mis-spelling of Lee Kuan Yew's name in the internet.
ReplyDeleteSome of the mis-spelling is as follows:
Lee Kan You
Lee Con You
Lee Kan Yew
Lee Con Yew
Please do not mis-spell Lee Kuan Yew's name.
In a world of deceit, outright fraud, back-stabbing and backside-playing....it is wonderful to find the quiet time to REFLECT on the good old days of honesty, integrity....where you could shake a person's hand to seal a deal, trust, honour and personal reputation were locked together.....ahhhh....
ReplyDelete.....redbean has an orgasm as he let's his aging mind wander into reminisces of the past.
errr...please lah uncle, that shit is irrelevant now. We have software and systems which now monitor your honesty and integrity on a case by case basis. We've developed this over thousands of years, because from the very beginning, humans noticed that it was in their unchanging HUMAN NATURE to CHEAT, because cheating economises resources, time, effort, energy etc., and you obtain something of greater value for a disproportionately tiny outlay. So OF COURSE, you would expect short-time-frame impatient humans to cheat.
However not all humans cheat all of the time. So, is there HOPE for the species?
Fuck yeah! Embrace and ENJOY your fucked up human nature! Or die bored and unfulfilled.
The day or moment this govt thinks like this idiot, that would be the end of this island.
ReplyDeleteDear Redbean, you are right. But only half right.
ReplyDeleteThe PAP has destroyed Singapore. The international fame of honesty and competence has been destroyed, but this is only just the tip of the destruction. Many other wonderful aspects of Singapore in the past have been destroyed as well. I will only have time to list one of them. I'll leave it to readers to exercise their minds and recognise the total destruction wrought by the PAP.
The social cohesion of the population, indeed of the citizens, is now in shreds. Think about this - you import in half the population, many of them from cultures that are basically cheats, how can you not expect, and indeed not predict, that neighbours will no longer trust each other? Is this such a difficult idea?
@ silly bugger 1001:
ReplyDelete>> The PAP has destroyed Singapore. The international fame of honesty and competence has been destroyed, but this is only just the tip of the destruction. <<
Oh, When you open your eyes after a restful night's slumber, you "immediately notice" that Singapore is destroyed? Really?
What universe you in man?
Ho w can Singapore be destroyed, and Matilah Singapura doesn't know about it? Boy that would piss me off. I'd like to be there to toast champagne as the whole thing implodes or burns to the ground.
Oh the humanity!
You talking about yourself? Yes, you, all the time talking to yourself and about yourself.
