38
firms have been place on MOM’s watch list for not employing Singaporeans. Oops,
the exact word is locals, which means PRs and Singaporeans. What if they employed PRs that are not
Singaporeans, ok right, treated as employing locals so no need to bother them.
According to Swee Say, his ministry is talking to another 100 companies on the
need to employ Singaporeans and application for Employment Passes will be
closely monitored.
I
hope this is not pre GE rhetoric and gerrymandering and more serious effort
would be applied to enforce the need to employ Singaporeans first after the GE.
Hope it would not turn into another nightmare after the GE when the current
effort is reversed and everything back to normal, more foreigners, more EPs and
more Singaporeans being replaced.
What
is the point of allowing foreign companies to operate here to benefit from our
good infrastructure, our system and to employ foreigners? Shouldn’t these
companies be asked to go somewhere else if they are not providing jobs to
Singaporeans.
And
what is the purpose of employing foreign talents here to do local businesses
with local clients? I can understand if the companies are operating and
competing for businesses in the international environment and in foreign land.
Didn’t some local HR Directors claimed that Singaporeans have better advantage
in understanding the local market and business environment? Why is there a need
to employ expensive foreigners to operate and function in the local
environment?
MOM
must start with govt linked companies, ask them to explain why they need to
employ so many foreigners even in middle and lower management levels. If the
GLCs did not see it a national duty to provide jobs to Singaporeans and think
it is their duty to provide jobs for foreigners, then foreign MNCs will
conveniently do the same.
I
will like to see if Swee Say and the govt mean business and go after GLCs that
are turning their organizations into foreign companies. The govt cannot be so
blind not to see and not to know what is happening. It is anti Singaporean
policies. Take the cue from Hsien Loong, who said he did not owe any
responsibilities to the world to employ their citizens. His responsibility and
his govt’s responsibility it to Singaporeans first. Not locals! Would this be a
top priority govt policy or is this going to be just mere pre GE talks?
Show
some sincerity and kick the butts of CEOs who think it is very clever and use
it as an excuse to employ their country men to replace Singaporeans.
Swee
Say, Singaporeans are all watching. GE is around the corner. Do something to
show the Singaporeans that the govt is for Singaporeans, at least before the
GE. Does Swee Say or the MOM believe the middle and lower middle management
jobs cannot be filled by Singaporeans? Take a walk in Raffles Place and MBFC and get a real feel
on the ground. Or make a trip to Changi Business Park . And open your eyes when
you are there. The tolerance of Singaporeans is at breaking point.
What?
Singaporean core? What is that? What about that CECA.
At the end of the day GDP growth is more important than employment for Singaporeans. Foreign companies are attracted to come to Singapore for one reason and one reason only. They are free to do what they like and to employ who they deem most suitable and at the lowest cost, plus low taxes. If these company can employ a cheaper work force than employing Singaporeans, then why wouldn't they? They can go through the motion and advertise the jobs and after the required period of grace insist that no Singaporeans are suitable or willing, then cheaper FTs can be employed. Cheap salary, no CPF and no MCs workers are much better than expensive Singaporeans, right?
ReplyDeleteI believe this is just a GE ploy, and things will revert to the norm after GE. Lets wait and see.
ReplyDeleteThis is very very very very very very simple!
Whether Singaporeans first or not, Singaporeans
on the ground know BEST!
No point keep on talking talking talking and
more talking
How many PMETs are currently unemployed, underemployed,
wronglyemployed, etc etc etc.
How many? How many? How many?
What so difficult to implement Singaporeans First!
Yes, Singaporeans First!
Cheers.
Anon 9:38 am, of course it is a GE ploy lah, or else why would Swee Say announce it so near to election? Why didn't Tan Chuan Jin announced it much earlier when he was Manpower Minister?
ReplyDeleteAnd of course GDP growth is more important than employment for Singaporeans lah, or else don't say CECA, why even casinos are also OK? Does casinos benefit Singaporeans at all?
So Singaporeans should not be daft. Under PAP rule, They must be smart, or learn to be smart, in order to be able to get a job, and a good job, despite CECA, despite more and cheaper foreigners. And I believe majority are, or else don't say coming election, even last election PAP would have been voted out already, tio bo?
Entitlement Mentality.
ReplyDelete60% feel its fine .
Where's Matilah?
I for one will be waiting anxiously for the GE2015 results. It will be an interesting time. All the bad mouthing of the PAP recently on social media, will it be just a ripple in the ocean or will it be a tsunami? I will not hold my breath for any surprises, but one can hope right?
ReplyDeleteI wish all Singaporean the best outcome in the GE2015. Whatever happens, it will be what the majority of Singaporeans voted for. Democracy rules the day. To the winners congratulations, and to the losers, hard luck and better luck next time. As a foreigner, I am very eager to see the outcome.
PMETs that cannot find employment are considered retired and no longer in the statistics of unemployed. So unemployment of PMETs is very low.

patriot
MOM will only start working for Singaporeans when MOM is working under an Opposition government.
ReplyDeleteIf we want MOM to work for Singaporeans, we have to vote out the Pro Alien Party government.
Do you think it's true and fair?
ReplyDeleteGeorge Yeo was a Pro Alien Politician.
Since he cannot work for the benefit of Aliens here in Singapore anymore, he is now working for Aliens overseas.
If you are Pro Alien and want to benefit Aliens, maybe you should follow George Yeo's example and go overseas to work for Aliens.
At least have the sense of honour to be paid by Alien money for working to benefit Aliens.
Not take Singaporean taxpayers' money and turn around and work to benefit Aliens.
Is the above true and fair comment or not?
I don't know.
You tell me lah.
Would daft Sinkies vote for a party that would look after the interest of aliens and sacrifice the interest of Sinkies?
ReplyDeleteFrom the records of what had happened, Sinkies love to be booted out of their jobs and countries.
Sinkies are being sold and still did not have a clue about it. Some are here still laughing deliriously that everything is fine.
ReplyDeleteActually MoM is doing exactly as what is stated.
ReplyDeleteMy Aussie and Indian friends are trying to get some foreign talent in and MoM is making the firms HR departments jump thru fire hoops and perform like circus animals in order to get a few lousy work visas/ employment passes...whatever the fuck they're called.
Another friend who has a local IT firm, which does big projects for (unnamed) govt. "entities") uses a veritable force of mostly "gun" Indian programmers (some locals), who do excellent work---good, fast, cheap(ER)...wah, he kena called up and GRILLED by MoM.
This cannot continue, MoM will have to relax the rule soon (after GE perhaps) or entrepreneurs as simply going to CLOSE DOWN and FUCK OFF, probably to Johor (my suggestion to the above 3 bosses).
The rights to hire and fire ANYONE for ANY REASON should remain solely with the operators and owners of the private enterprises. It's not a matter of race or culture. It's a matter of who can create the best value for the lowest cost---i.e. the RoR (Return of Return) on capital----HUMAN capital.
P.S. Fuck the government and it's "let's please the locals" rules. That gets in the way of PRODUCTIVITY and hence PROFITABILITY of private, capitalistic enterprise.
ReplyDeleteYou cannot have MERITOCRACY is you are going to have rules and laws which specifically favour special interest groups.
Local PMETs etc who have lost their jobs, lost their jobs fair and square. MAN UP lah, grow some BALLS, for fuck's sake before you embarrass the whole cuntree
Losing your job is not the end of the world, cry baby motherfuckers. There are Indians, Chinese, Pinoys and Vietnamese who have more COURAGE and CHARACTER than you lot, and are willing to work and to do whatever it takes to improve themselves and the lives of their families (upward mobility, you dumb cunts)---including RELOCATING to a foreign expensive cuntree and living in cramped shared accommodation.
So fuck MoM and its current set of unsustainable rules. Do whatever you need to to make being in $ingapore work for you...i.e. make money lah!
"Living well is the best revenge!"

Where's Matilah? <<
I think it is more than 60%. If you look at epic failures at Hong Lim, that might be a clue.
No one likes competition lah. Competition is HARD WORK and there is no guarantee of success. ๐ก Competition also forces you to do stuff you either won't normally do or dislike doing---like waking up everyday and having to do actual work in order to keep surviving. ๐ซ
Competition means you have to be perceived by your customers to be creating (better) value than your competitors, or you risk LOSING customers (and thus REVENUE) to those who are "better" than you.
Local motherfuckers still don't yet grasp the concept of creating VALUE, and yet they still want to demand the earth and moon for wages.
Singapore ministers are highly paid. It seems the locals use this as an (extremely WEAK) argument: "Minister get high pay for nothing, why not me too??" ๐
Well, sorry sunshine. If the world worked that way NO ONE will have to work (for nothing) unless the pay was high. I think you're on the wrong planet :-)
This is one time I agree with Matilah. The best jobs will go to whoever are the cheapest, most productive and therefore can generate the most profit. Just to have ridiculous rules and regulations to please the Singaporean PMETs who are displaced because they have become too fat, slow and unproductive is just plain stupid. The world has become a very competitive arena where you have to be fit to survive. Just because you claim to be a true blue Singaporean should not entitle you to a head start. If you cannot compete in this dog eat dog world, then you must be gracious enough to quietly bow out and get yourself a taxi licence.
ReplyDeleteQuite sad to note that there are some very intelligent and interesting people here.
ReplyDeleteThey are as practical and pagmatic as the Pappy Ruler. Otjet than themselves, there's absolutely no sense of belonging and identity. Some could be of mixed blood with no land to call their own, they have no historical ancestor to identify with. However, those that are pure tribe and claimed to be synonymous with their country of birtj and pledge unflatteringly about their loyalty and wanting to defend ad protect the land and its' people, it is hard to concile with their arguments of opening their doors and legs to aliens. Their conceit of been successful individually stems from their calibres in intelligence and hardwork are far from the Truth of Natural attributes. All beings are of varying capabilities, the Reason why the young, elderly and weak need help and protection from those strong and clever.
A nation is only a nation when its' citizenry is taken care of and protected by the Leaders. NOT TO PUT THE PEOPLE TO COMPETE WITH THE WORLD FOR THEIR(CITIZENS) SURVIVALS. IF THAT IS THE CASE, WHY WOULD ANYONE NEED LEADERS?
The individuals do have right to live the life he/is leading. However, they have to have sensibilities of identity and belonging, otherwise just be stateless and not be involved with national issues as nationalism is beyond them.
@ 254:
ReplyDelete>> Just because you claim to be a true blue Singaporean should not entitle you to a head start. <<
However, Singaporeans get the best "head start" in the world, but many of them have too much INGRATITUDE to
1. Notice
2. Take maximum advantage of
Singaporeans have excellent (basic + more) educational levels when they leave school. At least they are mostly LITERATE in more than one language, and have not-too-bad math and computer skills.
Many of them have even more than one computer/ device, they live in relatively good homes, in good neighbourhoods, their cuntree is peaceful and people are generally LAW ABIDING. There is food everywhere, and you can generally consume without much fear of getting SICK because the hard working folks from MoH and ENV are on the ball when it comes to hygiene.
If you are sick, you will get better than "basic" treatment. You need to go somewhere? Even in spite of the recent MRT cock-ups, the public transport system is EXCELLENT and affordable.
If you want to start any private enterprise in Singapore, you are lucky that you are situated in the EASIEST PLACE IN THE WHOLE FUCKING WORLD to do so.
Bonus--NO OTHER CUNTRY CAN TOUCH: if you decide to emigrate and give up your citizenship completely, you take with you a shit tonne of CA$H---after the sale of your HDB ($700-900k??) and cash in you and your spouse's CPF ($0.5-1 million +??)
Head start? The average Singapore has a head start like a motherfucker compared to ANYONE ELSE ANYWHERE ELSE in the whole fucking world.
You tell me, with such good fortune, you can't "make it"?
SHAME ON YOU!

Just vote Opposition lah!
No need to feel apologetic for being anti-PAP.
PAP is not Singapore.
Voting Opposition is like sex.
It gets easier with practice.
Singaporeans are called " strawberries ". They are easily bruised. Cannot work in the rain, cannot work in the sun, cannot tolerate to much heat, cannot stand too much cold, cannot work under too much pressure, BUT, they are very good at moaning, bitching and always feel that they are entitled to inherit the world. Always kiasu and kiasi. The sooner Singaporeans realise that they are not the chosen ones, the sooner they will wake up and need a spur upon their thick and pampered hides.
ReplyDelete@ August 15, 2015 4:58 p.m.
ReplyDeletePAP Ministers are called " strawberries ".
Their egos are easily bruised (and they are quick to sue).
Cannot work for less than one million dollar salaries
BUT, they are very good at moaning and bitching about Singaporeans and always feel that they are entitled to rule over Singaporeans.
Always threatening and talking down to Singaporeans.
The sooner PAP Ministers realize that they are not that good, the sooner they will wake up and realize that they are very close to being voted out.
Open to Global Competition. Let the Best fron anywhere takes the Jobs and Businesses.
ReplyDeleteIs anyone suggesting tha Australia, Malaysia or even USA allow every Dick, Tom and Harry who are cheaper or better or both to take over their markets and territories?
If it is beneficial to the Locals, WHY ARE NATIONS NOT DOING IT ?
WHY ARE THE SMART ALECKS NOT BUYING UP CHEAP ASSETS IN OTHER COUNTRIES. OR IS IT BECAUSE NATIONS DO NOT SELL NATIONAL ASSETS BECAUSE IT IS AGAINST NATIONAL INTEREST AND THEIR GOVERNMENTS ARE
NOT ALLOW
TO DO SO ?
EVEN POOR COUNTRIES DO
NOT SELL NATIONAL ASSETS, WHICH IS ONLY TO BE EXPECTED AS DOING SO WILL BE A TREACHEROUS ACT.
What say You ?

ReplyDeleteTalk no use.
Follow the example of Workers' Party.
Focus on action and votes.
Convert your friends, family and relatives into Opposition voters.
60% of them voted PAP in GE 2011.
Let's hope we sack at least 5 PAP Ministers in GE 2015.
ReplyDeleteI want to see them get humiliated.
Just like Singaporeans get humiliated when we get sacked and replaced by Aliens.
I like this chap calling himself Matilah Singapura. Not sure what that means. I came here less than 5 years ago. And he is damn bloody right. The best jobs must go to the most talented. And from what I see, the leaders of this country need to be replaced by cheaper and smarter foreigners. That should be the starting point.
ReplyDeleteAnd what is this nonsense about building a nation and pledging this and that and national service. In a global city there is no nation and no country. Sell yourself to anyone that is good and willing to pay for it, like that place, what they called it, Gaylang?
