Hiroshima and Nagasaki – Japan’s just desert

As the Japanese grief over the fate of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and the lives lost when two Atom bombs fell on the two cities, many are still wondering whether the events to commemorate the dead and destruction of the two cities meant anything to the Japanese?

Kwok Kian Woon wrote a piece in the ST on 6 Aug titled, ‘A letter to Japanese friends on Hiroshima Day’ in the most friendly way possible to share Japan’s grief and politely asked the Japanese about the same question I asked above. Kwok Kian Woon quoted Kuo Pao Kun saying, ‘I think that of all peoples the Japanese have in their living memory the most profound understanding of the war because the Japanese were at the same time a very cruel aggressor and a victim of the cruelest experience of war….What is there in the Japanese psyche, what is there in the Japanese culture, that stops a people capable of deep, profound thinking coming out strongly as a people, not just a few individuals but as a people, to reflect openly and deeply about the war?

What did Kuo Pao Kun and Kwok Kian Woon wanted the Japanese to reflect about? The pain and destruction from Hiroshima and Nagasaki are not insignificant. But compared to the pain and suffering wrought by the Japanese on the millions of Asians from Korea, China in the North all the way down to South East Asia, to Indonesia, the Philippines and Burma, what happened in Hiroshima and Nagasaki were chicken feat. The pain and suffering and the lost of lives and destruction brought about by the invading barbaric forces of the Imperial Japanese Army were abominable. Can Japan and the Japanese people understand that? Can Japan and the Japanese people understand the thousands of Americans that were bombed and killed in Pearl Harbour without knowing what hit them? Can the Japanese understand the hundreds of thousands of American and Allies soldiers that died and maimed to fight them and to drive them back to the Japanese shores, all because Japan started an invasion to conquer and colonise other people?

Despite the polite words of Kwok Kian Woon and Kuo Pao Kun, the Japanese did not understand and did not learn anything about Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Japan under Abe and his militant cabinet is remilitarizing to be the same militant Japanese of pre defeated Japan. They are legitimizing themselves to go to war again. They want the right to go to war, to fight, destroy and kill again. They have burnt their pacifist constitution.

The Japanese did not learn anything from Hiroshima and Nagasaki. They do not mind Hiroshima and Nagasaki to be repeated again. Or they do understand what Hiroshima and Nagasaki meant and want to do another Hiroshima and Nagasaki on others, to avenge their defeat and their pain and suffering.
Let me quote Kuo Pao Kun again, ‘What is there in the Japanese psyche, what is there in the Japanese culture, that stops a people capable of deep, profound thinking coming out strongly as a people,….’ What is there for the Japanese people to know that they should not try or attempt to repeat what they did to the rest of Asia and to the Americans, and to live in peace instead of harbouring the ambition to go to war again, as a war mongering nation?

Japan must be warned not to allow Hiroshima and Nagasaki to happen again. They brought it upon themselves. Do they want history to repeat itself by flexing its military might and cherishing for war again?

  1. Whether Japan ,Nihon,Anonae or jeepoon learn anything from Hiroshima or Nagasaki lesson or not is not important .
What is important is whether Sinkies understand the importance of Total Defence and NATIONAL SERVICE.
And stop claiming NS is national slavery.
Ok.Now get ready to celebrate your peaceful National Day which may not be possible without our NS boys.My Hormat to all NS boys n the regulars .

  2. >> They have burnt their pacifist constitution. <<

The great thing about nation's constitutions is that they can be changed.

And why not? Human beings are a species which can change its mind---both individually and collectively, and therefore is is reasonable to say that they will amend their laws and ways of life to accommodate their new "ideas" and needs.

    Got constitutional change?

SORRY TO DISAPPOINT. Singaporeans do not know the real meaning of those terms.

In Switzerland, the cuntry Singapore has spent the last 50 years trying to "model" they have the RIGHT IDEA, but Singapore has yet to adopt this method of defense.

In Switzerland, national defense begins with individual/ community defense. Switzerland is a cuntry of HIGHLY ARMED INDIVIDUALS---nearly everyone owns a firearm.

Also, the "conscripts" keep their assault weapons AT HOME, therefore there are always ready to defend their cuntry....especially if the enemy has mounted a surprise attack or cut off communications and transport during their invasion. Therefore, is a Swiss canton is "cut off" from the rest of the cuntry, they can still manage to give a good fight since everyone is ARMED.

Singapore, unfortunately not there yet. I doubt the sg.gov will allow fuckers to keep their SAR 21s at home. Reason: The govt doesn't trust the sheeple who vote them in.

Anyone else see what's wrong with this picture?

  4. "The govt doesn't trust the sheeple who vote them in", unquote.

Can it be that they are suspicious that the SHEEPLE WILL USE THE ARMS TO RID THEM INSTEAD OF DEFENDING THEM AND THE COUNTRY ?

  5. @Virgo n Matilah.
A good pugilist does not need weapon if he is good in defending himself.
Its the brain and a physically fit body that is needed.
NS can train you to be one who can defend yourself n your love ones, your fellow Sinkies in time of need without the need of firearms.
The fact that Sinkies need not keep weapon with them shows that we are more successful than those Swiss or those whose citizen need to sleep with their weapon as they have no sense of safety n security. We have score well than 1st world country.
    Safe n secured.
Most importantly NS has make Sinkies stand together as one.
Now, go learn some kung fu and keep yourself fit if you are overage for NS.
    Together we protect.

Total/ National Defense is a contribution from everyone. Not everyone is a "good pugilist". In fact let's say, that most people are quite "below average".

However, everyone is entitled to defend themselves---in any way and by any means required to ensure that they live and that their adversary dies or desists. And so, as intelligent agents, we've invented weapons, the most effective: firearms. These FANTASTIC TOOLS an be used by everyone---young, old, strong, weak, even crippled. But like all tools, you have to practice by constant use to become adept with a polished skill set.

And please lah, most kung fool that we see on TV and movies (post Bruce Lee) is BULLSHIT.

I can guarantee you: kung fool vs firearms, kung fool will lose ;-)

Bang bang (Double tap). You're dead.

    //most people are quite " below average"//
Solution:additional 1 year of kung fu training for NS to make Sinkies above average.

// have to practice by constant use to become adept//...
Solution: more call ups for reservist training in handling weapon n firearm after NS..

Besides kung fu one oso need to use brain .
If with firearm sure win then how come some with firearm are reported running away from scene huh?
    :-))

  10. Gongtuathai khong khongcum wuay.

He maybe too young and did not know that the Japanese soldiers were laughing their toes off when the Chinese fighters consisted of mostly pugilists armed with big knives confronted them.
The Japs know one bullet one pugilist dead, two bullets one pair out. So, a few Japs was able to conquer much of China.

One Gongtuathai is one too much. The Licenced Gun Slinger must be laughing too huh.

  11. The Swiss and Israelis have faith and confidence in their people to let them bring arms home. In our bastardised country, you think this is possible? The fools have brought in so many foreigners that you don't even know if this country is yours or the guy next door is friend or foe. And everyday they talk cock about national defence and keep bringing people from all corners of the earth here without knowing who they are. They have faith in the devils.

They need to be dumped in IMH before they destroy everyone in this island.

  12. This must be the Most Accurate Interpretation, if not most appropriate.
In the History of China, patriots repeatedly arose again and again to rid villains. They risked and sacrified themselves instead of running away from oppression. Of course, most were pragmatic and migrated to seek better life elsewhere.
Goh Chok Tong call those who left to settle elsewhere quitters.

Me am not too sure that Sin Rulers will not become quitters, however, there are much rumours that most, if not ALL OF THEM, have own properties and have their succeeding generations residing abroad.

Wonder what do we call those politicians or their family members who abandon their Country of Birth???

    Any ideas???

I keep sharing with people: this is one of the BEST ways to maximise your "good luck" of being a Singaporean. i.e. you use Hotel Singapore for all it can offer in convenience, efficiency, business-friendliness and awesomeness, and then use your overseas domicile(s) for their own benefit: usually lifestyle, freedom and ownership of nice "bang for the buck" houses and cars, plus schooling for the kids, low density living etc....i.e. all the stuff you cannot get in Singapore.

"Lifetyle design" and "nomad capitalism" are "realities" now for many well educated and value-creating individuals.

Since the "average" jo and jane blows (like me) are doing it, why wouldn't you expect well-connected rich career politicians to do the same---on a much BIGGER scale?

  15. As I add another year to my very young age, I have come to agree with what Matilah has written in many of the posts.

Happy National Day, from the outside.
