GE2015 – Order in disorder

This GE is going to be a very different GE from the past. Many things have changed, many variables have been taken out from the equation. There used to be disorder in the opposition camp and they would end up fight among themselves to see who would keep the deposit and who would claim to have done well for keeping their deposits. Winning was not in their minds other than participating in a general election for the sake of participation. Losing was a certainty and they kept going at losing by indulging in multi corner fights.

The fear of the same thing happening seems to be over after the second meeting of the opposition camp. They have more or less carved out the electoral map and decided who would contest in which GRC and single wards. Other than a three, 1 single ward and two GRCs, the rest of the field have been settled. Even then, the likelihood of an amicable solution is quite likely as can be seen by SPP and DPP closing rank to take Bishan Toa Payoh together. SingFirst and Reform Party may adopt the same formula to field a combined team in Ang Mo Kio. Such an option would see the two parties putting up their strongest candidates for the contest instead of the nothing to lose suicide squad in the past.

Yes, the opposition parties would be fielding their best candidates in this GE without over stretching themselves and putting up weak candidates for the sake of standing for an election. Without going for broke or trying to prove how many candidates they could field like the in past, they are saving their best ammunition for a real crack at the seats available. Every party will be choosing their candidates very carefully to make every man counts.

One positive outcome is that Ang Mo Kio will have a real contest if the Reform Party and SingFirst were to join forces and put up their best candidates for the job. This time Hsien Loong is not going to have it easy as before when only the unknowns were put up more like sacrificial lamb. In this GE, the sacrificial lambs or suicide squads, the no hoppers or nothing to lose candidates, would likely come from the PAP in WP held wards.

Every opposition party would put up their best for this election as they consolidated their strength to avoid 3 corner fights. This has turned out to be a good thing, with the opposition parties finally wised up to the challenge. They would still be a handful of wild cards who would think they can win in a 3 corner fights in single wards. What is their real motivation is anyone’s guesses but they will be seen as the spoilers to the party. Thankfully this will not be the norm and the main contest to be in Parliament will be as serious as it can be.

Let’s hope there will not be any nasty surprises during Nomination Day and no kelongs. It would be very painful to see parties given a GRC to contest but put up a dud team to compete, as good as giving a walkover to the ruling party.

  1. I wonder if we will see a PAP (Pro Alien Policy) candidate lose his election deposit?
Truly a very meaningful SG50 gift to the Singaporean nation.

    Hahahahaha.

I always wonder why there are so many weak opposition parties in tiny 700 sq km Singapore in the first place, and with some new ones forming as late as just months ago.

Do you? Or is there more to it than meets the eye for these parties?

  3. Looks like it is going to be an interesting GE. Lots of wayang and magic shows for the Singaporeans. At the end of the day it will be a PAP dominated parliament. My guess is it will be more the 60% this time round. Why? it is obvious, Singaporeans have all been bought over by all the goodies given and more to come as promised. Singaporeans are basically a greedy lot, always easily enticed by crumbs from the PAP table. Sorry to be so blunt.

Very possible, if you take reference from GE 2011.

    And here's why.

    1. The PAP of 2015, although still quite screw-up, has improved from the PAP of 2011.
    2. Sinkies in 2015 did not suffer any worse than Sinkies in 2011, in fact things have also improved, although still not that good.
    3. The opposition of 2015 is not any more stronger, united or more ready to be govt than in 2011, in fact worse, with more new "mosquito" parties now than in 2011.
    4. More new citizens minted since 2011.

  6. There will be a difference..Internet has developed a transparency of its own..attempts to cloak it has failed..politicial chiak Liao bees are uncovered..whether politicians who exit their careers with tens of millions to their names are acceptable is up to the electorate to decide..there will be a backlash n in reality a lot of the smarties have decided to quit while the going's still good. Have faith...

  8. "Eat-Full-Very-Free"! "Eat-Full-Very-Free"!

For such a tiny island, we have toooooooooooooooooooo
    many opposition paties.

    Why? Why? Why?

Do the smaller opposition parties think they do have
a chance to be voted in?

IMO, it is very very difficult for voters to associate
    with the smaller opposition parties.

Look into the mirror, if the smaller opposition parties are
not ready yet, Give Way Give Way!

If "eat-full-too-free", please go and wash charcoal!

    This is it!

    We shall see!

  11. It is quite satisfying ti note that Mah Bow Tan and Irene Ng had called it quit at Tampines GRC.
As a Tampines Resident, I find it very sad and disappointed that few residents at Changkat have any good to say of Irene. And it is even worse when obe finds so nany Sinkies swesting and cursing Mah Bow Tan who is now a multi-millionaire by virtue of his political office.

Now, PAP has put Desmond Choo who had failed twice at Hougang to replace Irene at Changkat(Tampines).
How PAP can make Desmond to abandon his supporters at Hougang to put him on the Chopping Board at Changkat is up to anyone's imagination. However, to place a quitter to Tampines GRC is to offer Tampines Voters a REJECTED PIECE.
HOW FAIR IS THIS PAP ARRANGEMENT TO VOTER LIKE ME IN CHANGKAT?

    TO BE PERSONAL,
I SPOKE WITH THE YOUNG MAN DURING HIS WALK-ABOUT.
FIND THAT HE IS YOUNG AND NOT VERY FAMILIAR WITH SINGAPORE'S CULTURE IN EARLIER TIME, ESPECIALLY PRE INDEPENDENCE.

I FEEL THAT DESMOND CHOO MAYBE AN UNFORTUNATE VICTIM LIKED NG
POCK TOO, WHO WAS DUMPED BY VOTERS AGAIN AND AGAIN FOR STANDING AS A PAP CANDIDATE IN A NUMBER OF GENERAL ELECTIONS.
JUST FOR RECOLLECTION, POCK TOO WAS ALSO FROM THE LABOUR MOVEMENT JUST AS DESMOND CHOO IS NOW.

Joining Ministers Heng Swee Kiat and Masagos at Tampines GRC in the Coming General Election may not tge Best of Timing.
The Two Ministers are themselves victims of policy implementations. Both, like ALL THE OTHER PAPPIES, are ONLY SUPPORTED BY SOME BALL LICKERS. SINKIES IN GENERAL ARE QUITE SICK OF THEM.

THERE IS A VERY HIGH LIKELIHOOD THAT REDBEAN AKA MR CHUA CHIN LENG'S ANALYSES THAT THERE WILL BE A CHANGE OF REGIME BECOMING A REALITY.

A HAPPY NATIONAL DAY TO ALL.

    CHEERS!!!

Not sure whether MBT leaving though there is hearsay sometimes back but he is my constituency MP.
Though he has not manage to help my towkay in the past when help is needed or granted a chance to see him personally, I have nothing against him.
Once saw his khakia mention MBT and the word cancer when he took out a notice for meeting at the void deck I was hoping that he mean meeting cancelled.
Mah to me is a Aykia and usually Aykia or shorty are usually smarter .If housing is expensive because of him like what many say, I would like to thank him and say he has done a good job.Only daft hope for cheap housing.
Better to have a smart MP with proper name than to have those MPs with fanciful angmo names but cannot contribute .
I like MBT.Best wishes to him.

Not really lah. Because I will rather believe WP Teochew Ah Hia than REDBEAN AKA MR CHUA CHIN LENG. After all, who has better political credentials to comment on elections, u tell me lah?

As Ah Hia already said, and it is worth repeating, in a GE, majority (aka 60%) voters are very scared to accidentally vote the PAP out because WP is not ready to be govt. And you can see for yourself that WP is not ready when they intend to contest only 28 seats out of 89. So Ah Hia is really not bluffing and I believe him.

    Actually hor.
After so many PAP screw ups since GE 2011, now "in a GE, majority (aka 60%) voters are very scared to accidentally vote the PAP IN because PAP is not ready to be govt. ANYMORE."

  14. The wild-card who spoils the votes as a third member in a 3-corner fight will have outed himself as a PAP plant. Not only that, he will have outed all those other people who have previously associated with him. I hope netizens can research and reveal all the past associates of anybody who shows up as a spoiler in a 3-corner fight. That will make it very, very damaging to the PAP to try and put up a plant as a spoiler.

The only way left for PAP to put up a spoiler is to get an entirely new face, someone who would not compromise any of their other agents. Someone whom you cannot find any previous links with others. So if you see any new candidates who appear out of no where, this is another sure sign that he's a plant. A new plant.

  16. Hi Patriot,

Like you, I am a voter of Tampines GRC in Changkat zone. Must share this real-time encounter with Desmond Choo with you. It was at a Durian Party organized by the RC. I paid $5 to attend. Desmond Choo was introduced by Irene Ng at the party. He gave a speech in Chinese:

    DC: 你们要不要吃猫山王?
    US: 要
    DC: 你们还多少钱, 要吃猫山王.

Wah-piang, like that also can say. I felt so insulted. This chap has zero EQ. No wonder he lost his 2 by-elections. People in Hougang are really smart. Now they sent this loser to Tampines, hoping to do a MBT. Folks in Tampines, open your eyes, use your brain to vote! We do not want reject!!!!

PAP, if you want to win Tampines, please find a better team. We are no pushover!

  17. Hi My Fellow Tampines Voter 5:34 pm.

Noted Your Comment and thank You for Your Interaction.

I had some 20 minutes conversation with Desmond Choo when he made house calls with his entourage.
The Impression I have of the Young Man is that he is NOT familiar with Our Old Singapore.Culture.
In the 50s, most of us forged kampong spirit, clan association and family support with sincerity. Desmond Choo came across to me as one brought up in a privileged setting.
Though he acted very friendly, I dont think he is capable of empathising the Commoners. He has an Aristocratic demeanour, most likely due to his privileged upbringing.

Desmond is chatty and a good talker.
However, due to his Aristocratic Appearance as in his demeanour, I believe he wll be better receive at places where there are more elite residents such as District 10 and 11. Those staying at the Said Districts shall be able to offer Desmond the Best Durian instead of paying $5 to have durians probably donated by some grassloot organizations.

Nevermind about getting slighted by a politician wannabe, just be aware that the Privileged Class aka Aristocrats will never be able to empathize with the Lesser Singaporeans. Period

I hope as an opposition, you take some pride in yourself and not spoil people's reputation.
