Yaseen
Anwar, a Pakistani American banker adviser to the Industrial and Commercial
Bank put it more directly, ‘They view it as a threat. “You are now making a
power move against me, so I’ll oppose the AIIB.”’ This is further collaborated
by George’s comment that if China were to pull the One Belt, One Road policy
through, ‘it’s going to change the geoeconomic, geostrategic map of Asia.’ Whether China likes it or not, intends for it
or not, it will increase its influence in world affairs that would mean a relative
decline in the influence of the West. One thing for sure as mentioned by Li
Cheng, director of John L Thorpton China Centre at the Brookings Institution,
‘China benefited from the international system…(and) has no interest to
challenge the existing international system.’
The Western
Powers cannot accept the new reality, that they are no longer the only One calling
the shot even in Asian affairs. They must and will do everything to disrupt and
derail the AIIB and this One Belt, One Road policy that would benefit the
Eurasia countries. That is the realpolitick of things.
There is no
need to be sheepish and to apologise to the Westerners for this China
initiative. Just do it and lump the Westerners. They cannot be controlling and
meddling with the affairs of Asians and to decide what is good or no good for
Asians. The Asians must have the confidence to do what they think is good for
their own interests. They have to change their colonial or West is superior
mindset. They have to stand up and take their place in the world stage as
equals to the West, to decide their own future, free from western domination
and control. But some are very happy to remain under the rule of Pax Americana.
One Belt, One Road probably is too ambitious & imbedded with dangers. Most of these Central Asian countries are poor and have desert like conditions' land. Population is not too dense. Therefore it will be costly for China to build the infrastructure, while the economic returns will be poor for a significant length of time.
ReplyDeleteChina has become complacent and splurging its money, much alike to its new rich buying Gucci bags all over the world.
Besides, China is facing terrorism from its ISIS related separatist Muslims in its Western region. This One Belt, One Road will widen and facilitate more difficulties as extreme violent belief and behavior are exported and imported. Not wise.
To paraphrase redbean and apply to Singapore's context, would it be correct to say:
ReplyDelete"There is no need to be sheepish and to apologise to the PAP for this OPPOSITION initiative. Just do it and lump the PAP. They cannot be controlling and meddling with the affairs of SINGAPOREANS and to decide what is good or no good for SINGAPOREANS. The SINGAPOREANS must have the confidence to do what they think is good for their own interests. They have to change their PAP is superior mindset. They have to stand up and take their place in SINGAPORE as equals to the PAP, to decide their own future, free from PAP domination and control. But some are very happy to remain under the rule of PAP."
RB is right in that China is now becoming a real challenge to the western powers, most particularly to USA. However, in the foreseeable future it will still be the USA that hold the military strength. Many if not most of the South East Asian countries are still beholden to the USA for armament and military support. Countries like Korea, Japan, Taiwan and to a certain degree Singapore still depend on USA when it comes to military support.
ReplyDeleteIf this One Belt, One Road policy takes off and become a success, I can see tension in this area of the globe with the west putting in spanners in the works in trades, economy and most probably insurgencies. What say you, RB?
Anon 9.13 is right.
ReplyDeleteAnything the opposition wants to do is not permited. Anything the opposition suggested is either 'time bombs' or rubbish and shot down in Parliament. This is no secret.
George Yeo's analogy of the West tainted view of China is just a mirror of the PAP's view of the opposition. Did he form this belated opinion when he was in the PAP or after he left?
Let me quote what Hsien Loong said, in the ST today,
ReplyDelete‘No matter how the system evolves, we hope that politicians admit that the task is to serve Singaporeans – not a party, or an interest group, but all Singaporeans.’
Hehe......
ReplyDeleteGot to tell Redbean that he has misplaced his faith by his quote.
Doubt Sinkies will believe the Man anymore. Even his Late Father has lost much respect due to him.
Much of what he have said were not delivered or actualized. The More he says and talks the more damages he is going to cause himself, his party and all that he represents, including his standing as the Chief Of State.
If he wins in the Coming General Election, I will be astonished.
patriot
Is he making a pre-election, feel good, political gaining mileage joke? Or admit that the message just apply to the opposition and not the PAP?
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, wasn't the HDB upgrading carrot serving the PAP's interest and not all Singaporeans? Now that the HDB upgrading has come to an end, he is saying this to no purpose and avail. What can he say about that?
I hope he does not really think all Singaporeans are daft to swallow his message.
Haha
ReplyDeletePatriot, 60% will believe him. Blind worshippers will always believe based on 'blind faith'. You cannot change that.
Whose nose is growing longer?
ReplyDeleteThe ST gives the wrong credit. I think RB said that.
ReplyDeleteLet me quote what Hsien Loong said, in the ST today,

Then why for the last fifty years, the PAP MPs are gagged not to speak for the people that elected them????
Why the Party Whip???
Talk cock.
Chue kong lampar song song!!
Why only serve party interest? Why discriminate against opposition party ward citizens?
ReplyDeleteActually the west has a lot to gain if china is strong and rich. They just have to ditch japan.
ReplyDeleteOf course when they ditch japan, japan will reveal the truth on how they were armed by the west 100++ years ago to invade china and killed many chinese but sure the world will forgive them.
ReplyDeleteThey armed Japan, helped Japan to build a war industry to attack China.
ReplyDeleteIn the end it backfired. The Japanese were more ambitious. They attacked the Americans and sunk their Pacific Fleet. Then the Japanese went after the British Empire in Asia, routed the British and took over its colonies in the whole of South East Asia.
Today the Americans are rearming Japan again hoping to use Japan against China. The dumb Americans forgot their lessons in Pearl Harbour. One day the Japanese would turn their guns at the Americans again to avenge the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and the bombing of Tokyo and other big Japanese cities, and the colonisation of Japan till today.
‘No matter how the system evolves, we hope that politicians admit that the task is to serve Singaporeans – not a party, or an interest group, but all Singaporeans.’

Wah!
I see so many flying pigs in the sky.
I better buy Toto today.
No matter how the system evolves, we hope that politicians admit that the task is to serve Singaporeans – not a party, or an interest group, but all Singaporeans.’
ReplyDeleteLee Hsien Loong
Will I get my CPF money back at 55 years old?
Or will I have to collect cardboard boxes for exercise until I am 80 years old?
What do you think?
My task in VOTING OPPOSITION "is to serve Singaporeans – not a party, or an interest group, but all Singaporeans."
ReplyDeletethe west become more paranoid
ReplyDeletebecause they had been re writing the world history, exert great control on narrative of world affairs and impose their value, their standard as " universal values" on them
the west hold the ultimate card to judge " who is the evil or who is the good guy"
the west try to hijack label of "international community" to represent western viewpoint.
What's there to be paranoid about?
ReplyDeleteOBOR is China's global "Guan Xi" program, where eventually they will 'OWN' a lot of the globe not by military conquest, but by production, value-creation and exchange...aka CAPITALISTIC ACTIVITY.
Westerners are scared. Sure, I'm not surprised. These fat and lazy ENTITLED WELFARE BUMS are of course scared, because the Chinese will work and play hard, and not always play "fair" or "by the rules" either. The fat lazy welfare westerner is simply in no position to COMPETE.
The best strategy for the westerner is to emigrate to Singapore, where he can join up with similarly "over valued" and "entitled" and pissed-off local Singaporeans to complain about PRCs taking up their jobs and racking up the local real estate prices by buying up Singaporean homes. Misery loves company! 😂😂
Western elites hardly learn from history or hardly scared. They only know how to profit from war mongering. The best strategy for them is to talk more about the possibility of war and hence their banks can rake in trillions. There are also many outdated warships waiting for disposal and sale to other countries cheap. Western people are only toys for their elites to manipulate.
