Hong Lim Park event on Sunday to rally for Amos Yee’s release.
A protest will be held in Hong Lim Park this coming Sunday, 4 pm, to ask for the release of Amos Yee, a 16-year-old blogger who is currently being held in the Institute of Mental Health (IMH).
The above is a comment in TRE and Andrew Loh's post on the same topic confirmed that there is a protest this weekend.

ReplyDeleteThe Australian BBQ with free steak attracted a bigger crowd than ten Hong Lim Park protests put together.
Get ready to welcome LHL as the Prime Minister/Senior Minister for the next 5 years.
Do you forsee lower prices in your future?
Do you forsee plentiful job opportunities over the next 5 years?
Must change tactic by providing free chicken wings, nasi lemak and drinks plus free buses to carry supporters to Hong Lim. Then we can compare the crowds. The Australian BBQ was underwritten by the Aussies and attended, I now understand, by PA people by invitation only. They tell you it is for crowd control, but we know it is bullshit.
ReplyDeleteReserved good stuff for own kakis on other's expense.
DeleteHokkien saying: Take people's backsides for their faces.
All the while also taking taxpayers monies and other extortion taxes like using their own.
Anyway, poor Amos either way on coming Monday still has to serve his sentence either in reformative detention or hard walls of other institutions.

- And this is why PAP will win another landslide victory in GE 2015.
Hong Lim Park is only for losers lah.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever seen any PAP or even WP MPs spoke at Hong Lim Park?
Dear Redbean, thank you for posting this news.
ReplyDeleteThe world is looking at the alarming lack of humanity in the Singapore population. Taiwan, the UN, Penang and Hongkong have lent their voice against the torture of an underaged boy by the Singapore government. So far, the Singapore population have been silent on Amos and instead are celebrating SEA Games and Australian BBQ. Next, they will also be celebrating SG50 too.
Overseas employers will be looking at Singaporeans with suspicions and having doubts on hiring such creatures without basic morals and humanity.
Hong Lim Park is a chance to show that there are still some honorable Singaporeans left in this dark city.

So you must be a winner? Winners don't come here you know?
Anyone here is a loser or a loser pretending to be a winner.
Another dead loss and ineffective action. Before Monday morning, everything forgotten already.

Who in Singapore gives a flying shit about what the rest of the world thinks?
Where each individual stands on the idea of free speech and expression, is the only concern here. Whatever the people hold collectively, becomes part of the culture.
At the moment, Singapore culture: "In Singapore there is a degree of free speech, however there are 'no-go areas'." In other words, no free speech and expression lah. You must "conform" to other peoples' sensibilities, feelings and tendency to be "offended".
Fuck that collectivist Hong Lim bullshit.
Stand up as Amos does: As a DEFIANT Individual.
I firmly believe that the organisers of this Sunday's protest at HLP should focus it on our constitutional right of freedom of expression and right to criticse the G which we elected into power. It is a larger platform than the treatment of Amos Yee or Roy Ngerng. It is obvious that these youths are persecuted for the substance of what they said, more so than how the substance was communicated for which I think thet have to be punished but in a reasonable way. The impact of libel and punishment should not be absolute to destroy a person for good but be measured against elements of truth beyond a reasonable doubt and culled from the alleged slander. Life is complex and few things are either black or white. There are many shades of grey in between. Therefore for those in public office, justice is better served that public officers claiming slander against them should be required to show that there is no figment of truth and the extent of realistic damages suffered to his reputation and integrity. If there is no or little damage, or the slander shown to be unbeleivable by most, then the sentence must be moderated accordingly.
ReplyDeleteHope the organisers will use next few days to rally support from all segments of the populace who have issues with the G on these rights to show their support and demand for them.
It depends on the master servant relationship. This situation proves who is the master and who is the servant. Servants cannot talk back or bad to master.

That's right: hold the government's feet to the fire. They are there to protect the rights of each individual citizen. Not to favour the might of the strong over the weak, especially when the weak have done nothing "wrong".
Can we have matilar at HLP

THE RIGHT TO FREEDOM OF SPEECH AND EXPRESSION?
Matilar is surely the most fitting person for the divine duty.
Rain or shine, 风雨不改!
ReplyDeleteThe crowds are building up. Clear sunny day. Even the divine is "chipping in" with good weather for the occasion.
ReplyDeleteWhat have you got to lose except the chains on your ankles and the shackles around your necks and wrists?
When even the divine "stands on the people's side", the outcome of who emerges victorious is already preordained.
