When weakness is strength

Goliath took on David and lost. The PAP has recently taken on two Davids and won. Roy and Amos were two little midgets clashing with a behemoth and no one would expect them to do a Goliath killing act. First battle and both lost badly, no fighting chance, no contest. Many would think that would be the end of the two young men, They have absolutely no capital or resources to mount a serious challenge even if given a second chance. This assumption is only partially right. Their lack of capital is in fact their strength. When they have nothing else to look forward to, nothing to lose, and with a nerve tough as steel, they would not accept defeat and crawl away. They stood up to fight, with everything they got. Nothing is going to stop them now.

Roy has declared war and going for broke. Amos had refused any probation and refused to be sent to reformative training. He demanded to be sent to jail. This is something the authority never expected. He is fearless. When a jail sentence is nothing to fear, what else can frighten him, what will he be afraid of, who will he be afraid of? Roy and Amos are like two droids programmed just to fight, with their minds focused to take their enemies down, and to go down with their enemies.

The suicide bombers are fearless and cannot be stopped when they chose to die with their enemies. Roy and Amos are in some ways like the fearless suicide bombers. You may call them fanatical, so what? They know what they are up to, they know the stakes involved. The ordinary guys would have many things to hold him back, many things to think about and would end up as kiasu, kiasi and kia cheng hu. Anyone thinks Roy and Amos would fit into this mould to be cowed and go down on their knees?

Roy is talking more and louder. He is doing a lot of research and has just posted another long article in his blog and reposted in the TRE titled ‘How the PAP turned against the Singaporeans from the mid 80s’. This is a fairly long piece but interesting to read. And so is Amos, and his postings. He refused to be gagged. He will keep talking and talking as freely as he wants, to say his peace. It is unbelievable for a boy of his tender age to take on the establishment and the masses of unthinking adults baying for his blood, and making everyone looking so evil.

The PAP must have regretted picking on these two young men thinking it would be a piece of cake, They are sinking into a quagmire. The most they can do is to keep suing them and keep mounting on the pressure, hoping that they would break or run away. They didn’t and are standing their ground to fight on with everything they got. Using the law and legal institutions against two young men whose crimes are questionable in the eyes of the public would backfire.

The two are turning their weaknesses into strength in a never ending battle against all odds. They will go down, but not pulling the behemoth down with them.

    HaHa! Good one.
If Sinkies were Jewish, we would still be voting for the Nazi party after 1945.

    >> The suicide bombers are fearless and cannot be stopped when they chose to die with their enemies. Roy and Amos are in some ways like the fearless suicide bombers. <<

Hey man, this is a fucked up comparison. You might find some commonalities, but it is the DIFFERENCES which define who Roy and Amos really are. Please don't sully what they're doing by comparing them to suicide bombers.

Here's the difference: Roy and Amos DID NOT, and probably WILL NOT physically hurt or kill anyone, especially their "enemies". What they are doing is PEACEFUL, by writing and speaking, not by acts of physical violence. But the peaceful attack on their "enemies" leaves no quarter, no wiggle room. They hit hard, but never with VIOLENCE.

If you don't correct what you've just written, then you give "ammunition" for Roy and Amos's detractors and enemies to use the metaphor of "suicide bombers" to bolster their arguments.

Also, whether they speak the "truth" is not a criteria for their right to express their opinion peacefully. In the realm of freedom of speech and expression the "truth" is IRRELEVANT. what you do is you present your argument---and it could be WRONG, it doesn't matter. Other people who also have freedom of speech and expression then get to tear your discourse to bits. The best way to combat free speech is with MORE FREE SPEECH.

IMO, the people who need "reform" and "counselling" are the fuckers who cannot tahan stuff that they are "offended" by or disagree with. They ATTACK the person who is coming out with these 'dangerous" ideas, and do not ATTACK the ideas themselves. In Singapore, if something you read, see or hear "offends" you, call the police, because a "heinous crime" has just been committed and "feelings" are hurt.

Boo hoo hoo Singapore, a nation of cry baby cunts.

  5. I have to say Matilah makes a very good point.
Amos Yee's ideas should have been challenged in an open debate by the people who disagree with him ... rather than the usual police reports.
I wonder if we will remember SG50 with the jailing of Amos Yee?
Come on Singaporeans ... let's make it an SG50 to remember.

    RB

    RB, u sure or not?

Rather, I would think PAP, by picking on these two young men, will make these 2 young men the first, and also last of such young men in Sinkieland.

Just like PAP made the Barisan Socialis, the last opposition party that could mount a real, serious challenge to PAP. And that was more than 50 years ago.

So I am also pretty sure for the next 50 years, and with such actions by PAP, there will not be a second Roy or Amos again.

  8. Kudos to my idol Matilah Singapura.

Well, to be fair; Oldie Redbean is in many ways similar to Roy Ngerng and Amos Yee. They are All against evil practices and championing the weak and trampled.
My Idol too is doing his part.

The Thing that find interesting is that some folks just keep doing stupid things just because they have the Power and the Might to bully and they are enjoying doing so. They are oblivious to the Rising Tide of Dissent and Unhappiness.
Do they believe their Power will last forever?

There have been calls for revolution in Cyberspace for sometines and I noticed that there was no enjoinder to those calls. Personally, I do not see the Need for drastic measure to counter the Incompetent and Bullying Rulers.

It is NOT too difficult to have the Regime SACK BY GETTING THE PEOPLE TO VOTE THEM OUT.
My idol said many times that voting out the Regime will make no difference. This I CANT AGREE. For to me, a new set of the same thing is always fresher.
Newbies are always more humble in the Beginning and if the VOTERS ARE WISE, THEY SHOULD NEVER PUT ALL THE EGGS IN ONE BASKET.
HAVING 30 TO 45% OF ALTERNATIVE PARTIES IN ANY CABINET WOULD BE
    AN IDEAL ARRANGEMENT.

    >> RB is talking about some similarities like nothing to lose, nothing about tying bombs to their bodies to blow themselves up to hurt the innocent lah. <<

Eh, cheebye, I can read and comprehend Ingrish lah. Do you? I fully understand RB's points. What I'm saying is that you have to also see the other VERY VERY IMPORTANT ASPECT of non-violence---which DEFINES Freedom of Speech, i.e. Freedom of Speech is NON VIOLENT, rather than people who speak up are fearless like suicide bombers WTF???!!??

Also, don't give the other side ammo lah. They are already emotional, revenge-seeking and irrational. They will use any tool to nail Roy and Amos to an upside down cross. These "offended" people are bloodthirsty for RETRIBUTION lah. Don't fucking enable them!

    >> In a country of daft, you may be right. <<

As a card carrying member of Aust and the global "skeptic movement", and a person who spends too much time and money on skeptic/ cognitive and behavioural neuroscience conferences, lectures and courses, my default position is that I am always WRONG. However, being wrong---if it doesn't kill you---is about the best way to LEARN and improve. Maybe. I could be wrong...😝

Singapore is definitely not a "cuntry of the daft". There are very fucking, scary smart people in Singapore. And there are daft people as well.

What Singapore does have are aspects of its CULTURE---like freedom of speech and individual expression---which haven't until now been CHALLENGED with the kind of HIGH ENERGY like what Roy and Amos have ignited. Now the discourse is island-wide. Everyone has an opinion; a position. The conversation on free speech---for and against; its limits or keeping it perfectly free---these are issues which have to be addressed SOONER OR LATER in our history.

What better time than the present?

    First, there was only Roy.
And then out of the blue, there was Amos Yee.
I wonder if there will be a third to emerge soon?

Maybe it's just like LKY & PAP?
    First, there was LKY.
Then there was the old guard.
And maybe now LKYism and PAPism has spread to include Calvin Cheng and Tin Pei Ling.
And Aliens in grassroots and RC organizations.

    >> Do they believe their Power will last forever? <<

Doesn't have to. They have several decades already. More than enough time to make sure one's bed is feathered in the softness and finery required for a good night's sleep in peace and moral purity ;-)

    >> There have been calls for revolution in Cyberspace for sometines and I noticed that there was no enjoinder to those calls. <<

The zeitgeist is no where to being even close to the "tipping point"---i.e. the "critical mass" required for a reaction which cannot be stopped, and can only end when it does indeed, end. Usually this "tipping point" can be seem coming, but only if there is blood in the streets, people are starving, they're losing their homes or being impoverished from a deflating and failing currency...none of these things or anything remotely similar in nature are occurring in Singapore.

Can they occur? Of course. But there is no sign of deterioration---i.e. "loss of value". There are signs of CREATIVE DESTRUCTION, causing what some (like patriot) claim as: "the Rising Tide of Dissent and Unhappiness", to be sure. But that kind of "destruction" is necessary for "new and better stuff" to come in as replacements. Creative destruction has a net gain in value---that's the distinction. Even though some people will "suffer" (inevitably) , the overall benefits to society outweigh the few broken eggs needed to make a socio-politico-economic omelette

A Benign Dictatorship is able to implement Creative Destruction so as to get things moving along to IMPROVE the city-state. It is not bogged down by protracted democratic discussions where every less-than-qualified Ah Chee Ah Chor, Mat, Maniam and De Cruz plus their dogs get to profer opinions on how the cuntry should be run. With democracy comes NOISE, and if you want to get things done, nation wide, the best way is for a Benign Dictator to do his job.

If the PAP lose the election, they will deserve it. Not because they didn't 'soften" to the needs of the SOME of people (special interests of the looney fringe).

No, they will LOSE because they didn't have an effective and authoritarian Benign Dictator to replace the late LKY.

Every successful rock and roll band needs a FRONT MAN -- the guy that mesmerises his global audience. The Rolling Stones founded in 1962 have Mick Jagger.

Singapore's "rock star" is Lee Kuan Yew. Now Singapore is a rock band with no rock stars.

  21. Dear Redbean, thank you very much for your effort to keep this disgraceful issue alive.

JayF said (8:15 a.m.): "Redbean supports people who heckle retarded children and cheats people of their money, and ttenagers who call their mothers a bitch, fathers a dumbfuck and defames people."

JayF is completely mistaken. This is not about supporting a boy who misbehaves. It is about the State misbehaving grossly by wrongly applying the mechanism of the Law and the Court to curb a child's misbehaviour. (Not to mention there is so much truth behind his rant that we have to agree with him.)

What JayF said is typical of the Internet brigade trying to confuse the issue. He will achieve the opposite of what he sought. There will be more posts on this blog in response to the misdirection he is trying to spread.

The internet brigade will get exactly the opposite of what they sought. If they try to make bloggers stop talking about the Amos issue, bloggers will know that their articles are on the right track and hurting the Authorities. If they try to spread lies, their post will generate more posts and more views in the bloggers' pages. Isn't it sweet?

The alternative media should not give up on the Amos issue until the Authorities apologise for their disgraceful rape of a defenseless 16 year boy.
