The
GE is imminent. Many would be wondering what would be Chok Tong’s role this
time. Would he still be the goal keeper or would he be history? He is still the
most senior member of the PAP team, a very durable politician. He still carries
a lot of weight and the Emeritus title. He should be good enough to carry a GRC
and Marine Parade would be lighter this time without Nicole Seah staring down
at him. Maybe without Nicole Seah PAP may not see the need for this heavyweight
to give its team the needed ballast.
Chok
Tong is the last of the second generation PAP leaders still in play. Would PAP
still need a veteran to hold the fort? At 75, he is still very young, 20
years younger than the oracle and the most senior of the PAP team. It is a case
of young but not young, old but not old, to let go or not to let go.
What
about Chok Tong’s personal plan? Is he looking for a well deserved retirement
and live happily ever after, spending time with his grandchildren? Or is he
another LKY, that working is fun and enjoyable, especially as a senior
statesman and with all the trimmings of power and glory? What would Chok Tong
want? Does he have unfulfilled dreams like building smart cities in India or making CECA more
attractive?
Would
Hsien Loong be calling the shot and making the final call? How would the voters see Chok Tong? Would he
be tasked to mentor his young talents or have the young talents all grown up
and not needing him anymore?
The
oracle’s office in the Istana is still vacant and waiting for another deserving
occupant, and who else is more deserving other than Chok Tong the Emeritus
Minister?

Goh Chok Tong (born 20 May 1941) is already 74 years old lah.
ReplyDeleteBut I think he should continue to be in politics if he wants to live longer, say up to 91 years old just like LKY.
Because medically speaking, a person who retires and relax his brain may die faster.
U know, the late LKY got Parkinson disease shortly after GE 2011, when he gave up his Minister Mentor post. Maybe without mentoring, his mind deteriorates and the body also follows.

He has already retired but given the honorary title to recognize his contributions and to allow him to enjoy all the fixtures, fittings and frails such as escorts and body-guards, and expenditure allowances of his previous office, so that he won't be assassinated or robbed or conned by bad people or haters or enemies.

IMO, they'll win, overall. But they are going to lose one perhaps more wards.
In 2007, incumbent and successful PM John Howard was thrown out of office. The cuntry was rocking in a boom, money everywhere, 18 yr olds making over 100k per year, Australia was smokin' and awesome. But the voters threw out Howard and his Libs because they turned out to be arrogant and nasty assholes. However what came in (Rudd and Julia) turned out to be worse and bigger assholes than the ones who got thrown out.
Aussie sheeple are FAMOUS for making huge mistakes in voting the wrong fuckers into power. They do this often. The Sheeple get the govt they deserve! And no, the Aussie electorate has not learned from past historical mistakes. They keep making the same political errors over and over.

Aussies voted Howard and his nasty cunts OUT during the time when Australia was the most productive and RICHEST in its entire history. To his credit, Howard's reforms worked great, but private individuals also "went for it" and made their own success the "old fashioned way": sheer hard work and practical wisdom. My gardener was then making over $250k per year. Every summer he could afford to take his family on 2 month extended holiday in Asia. Manual labour rocks!
Comes to a point where people are self-sufficient enough and more worthy of respect, which accrues as one ascends the scale of upward social mobility.
But the RUDE government will continue to treat their voters with CONTEMPT, so after a time when "tolerance of annoyance" has worn itself out, The People (now rich and self sustaining) will tell the govt: "GET THE FUCK OUT YOU NASTY MEAN CUNT!".
