PAP big gun in Aljunied and Hougang

Lim Boon Heng, the big gun of yesteryears, is seen in a grassroot affair in Aljunied and Hougang, leading a team of freshies that are likely to be the candidates for the next GE. Just my guess. The question, why Boon Heng and not some incumbent ministers? Perhaps Boon Heng has volunteered to throw his weight in Aljunied GRC to carry the new team to victory. By the look of things, Boon Heng is the most worthy heavy weight that could to do the job now, or is the bravest to lead the charge.

Boon Heng’s first salvo is to question what would happen if WP would be in charge of SG? For him to ask such a question is like saying what PAP has done is the best, or WP would make a mess of everything. Can WP do anything worst? What do you think?

The other issue is about the finance of AHPETC. Boon Heng was horrified that the Town Council has turned a $3m surplus to a $734k deficit. I can understand the surplus part, ie excess revenue collected. Good thing. Collect more is good and better to transfer the excess to the Sinking Fund and sink to the bottom and be forgotten. Another untouchable fund?

What is this deficit? Is the deficit due to losses due to bad investments or mismanagement? Or is it because some residents are facing hardship and have problems servicing their monthly conservancy fees? Or is it that some ‘above the law’ citizens chose not to pay because they did not vote for the WP and they have the right not to pay?

In the first case, hardship, would it be better to ruthlessly chase for payments by issuing legal letters or threats of evictions? In the second case, are there people above the law that they can choose not to pay their conservancy fees because they did not elect the MP? Is there any law about such hooligan behavior? Can the residents in PAP constituencies who did not elect the PAP MP do the same? If can then it would be a good precedent for more lawlessness in this City with gangsters running wild everywhere. And the best part, no law to apprehend them and to bring them to justice in a rule of law country.

What is the issue? What do you think?

Please also read TRE’s editorial on the disproportionate distribution of govt grants to GRCs and why AHPETC got among the least and how some GRCs covered their deficits by huge govt grants. The TRE article is titled ‘Desmond Lee, all town councils run deficits.’

  1. Lim Boon Heng, spends his time more at the NTUC club drinking duty free beer than looking after the interests of the workers.

Loss over the hill ex-minister to open fire at the Ajuniued GRC hoping to con the daft sinkies to vote for them.

Diferent grants to different GRCs where they cover their bigger so called deficts.

So difinetely always green excellent for the PAP wards.

Especially LKY, LHL and the Allah Mak Sembawang GRC.

Yesterday morning at Bukit Merah Central Tanjoing Pagar HDB and TC branch offices hawkwer cenbtre having breakfast.

Only 11 plus, crowded with TC and HDB chia liao bee staff having their early lunches.

Allah Mak Snr can said do not abused their staff. More of their staff abusing the public than we abused them.

  2. Anyone wondering why PAP got so many talents? No need to be smart. The act of joining PAP is an act of intelligence, doing the smart thing on super talents know how to do.

Anyone doing this must have talents in them. IBs are all talents oso. Look at how smart they are in the nets.

Oh, the talents are also showing their talents on how to read AHPETC's account.

  4. PAP Big gun or not, AHPTEC deficit or not, more govt grant or less, maybe it's all wayang lah.

Like some commentators pointed out from another perspective, if WP win, PAP also win. It's a win win for WP and PAP.

Only when SDP Aung Juan Soon Chee Party can win, then it's a win win for SDP and the Sinkie opposition.

  5. Tiok.

WP can stand for What's the Point party, Wayang Party, or Wayang with PAP party.

Because when they wayang and also not ready to be govt, Sinkie workers still suffer pay no enough, money no enough, tio bo?

  6. I have a feeling part of the PAP's pre-election strategy is to go after Town Councils and force them to "clean house".

Dirty tricks? Why not? It is politics..anything goes?

  8. This guy is quite well known in Hougang, an old boy of Montfort School, and perhaps the PAP thinks he can be an asset in Aljunied GRC with his connection. But times have changed and those now living in Hougang, Punggol and Aljunied are people who hardly knew him at all.

In any case RB is right about the deficit of AHPETC, which is the result of residents facing hardship, servicing their conservancy fees rather than mismanagement. But the way it has been reported in the MSM seems to suggest that WP committed a very serious crime using the town council funds. Those who know the full story do not believe nor rely on propaganda from the PAP MPs to sensationalise the issue, just because election is coming.

  9. Lim Boon Heng is clearly ready to retire since already have a top job in Temasek. So fielding him is not a loss to PAP.

I welcome PAP challenging WP on the deficit. Because, then we have every reason to similarly ask to scrutinize the $12m loss in the Lehman Brother's through the other 2 GRCs Holand Bt Timah + Pasir Ris. They have not given us a clear accountability to this matter yet.

  10. "They have not given us a clear accountability to this matter yet."
    Anon 12:04 pm

    This was before 2011.

But didn't they still won in Holland Bt Timah + Pasir Ris GE 2011?

And even won against then SDP and later presidential hopeful Tan Jee Say (aka Hainan Ah Ko) some more.

So why need to give clear accountability when majority (aka 60%) voters already accounted them to be more preferable over even Ah Ko?

  12. Seriously, who stands for PAP at Aljunied GRC is an unknown. Me believes PAP Members will be moving around quite a bit, to gauge the responses from the Ground.

Personally, me doubts Lim Boon Heng is any match for the Incumbents, anyone of them, including MP Sylvia Lim.
A cry baby, especially a very mature man, can never give much good impression to others.
On the other hand, a confident man; one that does not blink when making empty promises, will get much worship and idolize. PAP is not short of such calibres, should say there are many in PAP.

Do not think PAP is fishing for pity votes at Aljunied GRC. It is a district with many old estates that really need redevelopment. Khaw Boon wan will work wonders for PAP there. Currently the MND Minister, he is also one of the Strongest Candidates other than the Prime Minister himself. These two men are the Best Bet to wrestle back Aljunied for PAP.

WITH THE RIGHT CANDIDATES, PAP STANDS A GOOD CHANCES TO TAKE BACK ALJUNIED GRC. IT SHALL NOT BE A FREAK RESULT, BUT A VICTORY BY MERIT OF CALIBRE.

  13. Aiyah, the WP will do no wrong one. They got amnesty halo given by the residents of Hougang and Aljunied.

The Aljunied town council got deficit sure got good reason one, like how they got less money from govt, like how govt bully them with software system, like how govt demands audit on other things, like how WP more compassionate give poor people free electicity etc etc etc. People will believe them one.

Actually deficit or not, why does it matter? Important thing is the heart must be there. For that, WP has more than shown the heart is in the right place for many years. For that reason alone, they can form the govt no problem for me.

  14. LBH big gun? He is a thing of the past. Never do much, drink free beer, looking at underage meimeis, only talk rubbish including asking stupid questions like the rest of his "dunno how to use a calculator" party of " need 59 years to count how much in reserves". So embarrassing that people voted for this kind of shit quality party.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I think WP can go crowd funding for the deficit of his town council citing valid reasons and shut that "shit quality need 59years to count reserves" party mouth up.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Ya ya good idea !! WP do crowd funding is a very good idea! Why didn't the PAPies who are paid millions think of that ?

But come to think of it, there is no stopping if WP pay themselves millions too , right ? And they can also do crowd funding on a global scale if country go deficit like their town council, tio bo ? Correct me if I m wrong here.
