No sane person can breach our checkpoint security

With the tight security checks at our checkpoints, particularly at Woodlands and Tuas, it is insane for anyone to think of slipping through the checks and getting away. It could be done by foot as proven by a Took. But to get across in a vehicle is unimaginable.

Well, a Malaysian woman motorist did just that and was lost in our concrete jungle for 3 days. Our network of cameras also failed to locate her despite an island wide alert. She was only caught when she did another tailgating job into the Ministry of Foreign Affair, intentionally I supposed, to prove something. Why she did that is still puzzling. It seems that she was trying to prove to the security officers that she could do what she like and there is no way for them to trace her unless she offered herself, like driving into the MFA compound voluntarily.

The police should interrogate her intensively and learn a few tricks from her. Never mind if she is insane. The divide between a genius and an insane is only a thin line, so they said. This may be the Achilles heel of our security system, that only an insane person can breach it in an insane way. If the woman is sane, there is no way for her to get through and run free in this tiny island when there was no attempt for her to change cars, number plate or camouflage the car.

She simply drove the same car everywhere she wanted. Cool man. Insanity is our weakness.

  1. Given enough time and a little luck, every security system can be breached lah.

No surprise here. The only surprise is for people who are too certain of themselves, and don't understand probability. Yes, there are many such people around. Some even assigned the job to look after the security of the island.

  3. P.S. About 6 month ago, I managed to inadvertently bring onto the SIA aircraft a Swiss Army knife. The operators of the X-ray scanners at airport security did not pick it up. The tool was "hidden" below a hard drive standing on its side, so in the X ray picture it looked like a hard drive with all the internal mechanisms. Usually the scanner can distinguish and pick up the shape, but it failed to do so.

It was unintentional on my part. I had left the knife in my backpack and forgotten about it. I discovered my "mistake" only when I pulled out my tablet and ear-buds onboard the aircraft. So I put the knife in my pocket. When the packets of peanuts came, I had a nice sharp pair of scissors to cut through the packet.

So yeah. You can even accidentally breach the tightest of tight security.

  5. I am not surprised at all that such an extremely and dangerous thing happened here.

Just look around us, many social ills are slowly surfacing in our once the garden city of the world.

I don't know. Could the rapid increase in population be one of the reasons?

VERY SAD.... very sad.... very sad.....

  6. It is not practical for the system to be designed to take into account insane people, which may only be 7% of all people. It would be too costly and wasteful because it is 93% unnecessary, tio bo?

  7. I was very angry when I saw TV news last night. What, an insane woman drive through the checkpoint. Self check in, ha ha. The other news was LTY replied on incentive & penalty re bus punctuality, when MP said put pressure on bus drivers, but he worries more on backend work. Why create all this silly policy & increase operating cost for bus companies, in the end we commuters have to pay.

  10. Giving the 'mentally unstable' excuse is the easiest way out of a tight situation. No one will ask futther questions. The mentally unstable person goes for mental adjustments and the problem is deemed solved.

Hell, they used that excuse quite frequently eg on Dr. Chee, Lawyer Ravi and others whenever they cannot tackle a problem.

  11. What else can we expect when we even had a 'Minister Mental' in our Cabinet?

  14. All the terrorists need is one slip, one chance. If this woman's car was loaded with bombs......

  15. Please do not be so imaginative la.

Just a woman only and only driving a small saloon car. Not an armoured car you know? 3 days around the island, doubt she even got summoned.

  16. Hey, up till now, nobody knows how Mat Selamat slipped out of Singapore into Johor. Or is it a state secret, so no future terrorists can replicate his feat.

My guess is that he walked or drove out through our porous causeway checkpoint. If an insane person can get in, how more so a sane and calculating terrorist get out? I laughed my toes out when they say he swam across the straits.

  17. Er, sorry lah! Since they cannot arrest Mas Selamat at that time, they are now doing the next best thing, which is arresting Mas Selamat's son. Don't pray pray with our security hawks hor.

Why did the chicken cross the road?

    TEO CHEE HEAN:
    1. The chicken is mentally unstable and has a history of mental illness.

    2. What do you think?

  19. They have not yet learnt from the Mas Selemat episode. The MOD chief should step down.

  20. Why bother to have compulsory NS when the security of the border is so easily compromised? Why waste so much money on NS when someone can easily come in and bomb up the place? Someone must be made accountable.

  21. To PAP, if there is an issue with security = there is an opportunity to make more money from the people. I think they will start to raise various tax giving this kind of excuses soon. Most likely they created the issue to make it sounds convincing to collect more taxes.

  22. If you want to learn from Mat Selamat, then recruit him. Pay him a million bucks...there is always a price. What better way than to make an ally out of your enemy. In the shadowy world of espionage, it's called turning an agent. You kill two birds with one stone...maybe more, because you save the cost of maintaining him in prison.
