New battle ground, from hawker centre to rojak fair

The make shift rojak fair or pasar malam that rotates among the various HDB estates for years, and becoming a part of the local culture, has turned into the latest battle ground. And it happens right in the heart of Aljunied Hougang Punggol East Town Council, AHPETC. Is this just a sheer coincidence?

The organizer of the rojak fair, Events Business Management, EBM, has been told by NEA to stop operating as it does not have a licence to operate a trade fair. And this rojak fair which the locals have got used to as a common temporary fixture in housing estates has now been elevated to the status of a trade fair.

The stall holders have started to fold up their businesses as a result and sent packing. EBM GM Dennis Chew argued that the event is not a ‘trade fair’. They have been organizing this kind of events for 10 years. Sylvia Lim of AHPETC said this was just a year end festive event. The Kovan Merchants’ Association ‘remains puzzled about the turn of events’. ‘Chairman Ng Cher Po said they have never issued a letter of consensus to event organizers in the past three years, despite the fact that numerous fairs have been held in Kovan City.

What is this battle all about? What do you think?

  4. No wonder there are no more pasar malams -- except during festive season.

Some civil servant probably ruled that pasar malams are "shopping malls".

    Fucking idiots.

  5. I pity the hawkers at that pasar malam. They're Singaporeans trying to eek out a living. I hope they got reimbursed. But what will happen to the stocks they've already bought? Lose money, sure lose money. The ft's can make their money here but Singaporeans can't.

    Isn't it obvious?

U mean all blind to the build up?

    Serious?

Co drivers in that case deserve to lose their contract renewals!

    Don't bother!

Continue to enjoy your fat $16,000 allowance and generous town council salaries and what not.

SINKIES need a big wakeup call!

    Slap what?

    Who is slapping who?

    Co drivers or drivers?

Seems like drivers is performing the waking task of co drivers on co drivers themselves.

How hilarious and ridiculous can a bunch of clowning and sleeping co drivers get?

  9. If they don't take the initiative to attack, the other party will. Now the attack has started and they are on the defensive.

  10. Don't slap kena slap.

The dismissive strategy of presenting one as helpless, no ambition or aspiration, harmless, willing to play ball, no threat, is not working.

  13. RB, what is there to think? That some people and their stooges are born with vindictive genes can never be changed. However hard they try to convince others that they are changing.

You know, I know and everyone know the reason. People are not as dumb as the PAP seems to think.

The best time to make a more subtle change is 2016.

  14. Pro Ahneh Party members are dogs. They cannot think and act morally. THey only think and act according to what their masters command them to do. People must vote more for those opposition members so that they can represent the people without fear and without being oppressed and true democracy (not a pseudo one) can be achieved.

  15. Redbean,

don't worry. These are the injustice that citizens get to see, and PAP think that people are stupid not to see it and very soon forgotten about it, and PAP still think that they can do whatever they like if you don't vote for them.

Good luck to PAP in coming next election.
