We held parties called Singapore Day for our citizens and their friends
abroad in cities like New York, London, Melbourne, Shanghai and the
latest in Sydney. Each event could see near to 10,000 Sinkies being
feasted with our local favourites to remind them of home, all free, paid
by our govt. And the cooks and their foodstuff were flown there from
home to ensure authenticity. We even flew a real minister and several
big shots there to really make them feel at home. See how hardworking
our ministers are. Each event would probably cost a few peanuts at most.
Good value for the money. Our overseas Sinkies will be so happy and
their guests will be impressed. I don’t think the Americans or the
Japanese could afford such parties.
It is one of those events that Sinkies really feel like Sinkies and
being surrounded by Sinkies. You can’t even find such a gathering and
atmosphere back home except in Hong Lim when Gilbert Goh threw a party.
And this is what a Sinkie, a Anthony Sim, in Sydney said, ‘… he had
never seen so many Singaporeans congregating in the one place.
“It is quite heartwarming to know we are not alone. Everyone of us were on the same page,” he wrote.
"There were no PRCs, India Indians, Bangla or Pinoys to annoy us.” Ahem.
Sinkies back home would not have many chances to be in the company of
just Sinkies.'
Unfortunately this Sinkie event has attracted the wrong
gatecrashers who demanded to be invited. And when failed to get in, they
accused the organizers of racism. KNN, how can our govt be accused of
racism when they invited all foreigners with their open arms here?
Typical outback country bumpkin mentality! It is unbelieveable but it is
true. The two hungry and hard up white Australians said on a talk show
that they were refused entry to a private party for Sinkies. I hope the
Australian govt is not going to demand an apology and for SIA to fly the
two men for a two week fully paid vacation in Sin City to appease them.
Actually since we have so much money to spend, the Singapore Day could
be open to all and sundry. It can’t cost that much more than the F1 or
the synthetic garden in Marina and another one coming up in Changi. It
is goodwill money and will be money well spent. And the hard up Aussies
will be blowing our trumpet happily on how generous we are and how good
are our hawker cuisines, and all the good thing about Sin. Ya, good PR
value for tourism money.
Were the WP=PAP MPs invited also....to enjoy the Singapore /Festival.
ReplyDeleteSingapore's PAP gahmen is rich.
ReplyDeleteSingaporeans are poor.
Please do not conflate the PAP gahmen with Singaporeans.
Singapore PAP gahmen sits on one side with their self awarded meritocratic salaries.
Singaporeans sit on the other side.
We are not on the same side.
ReplyDeleteYES!
Singapore is a truly rich country......the country is not only very rich but extremely rich.......
how about her citizens, singaporeans......
look at sky high property prices...showrooms still flooded with buyers......buy buy buy.....
look at record high coe/cars......buy buy buy ....
look at high healthcare costs...rising health insurance costs....looooong waiting time for subsidised patients.....pay pay pay ....
look at ever rising costs of living in Singapore...pay pay pay .....
etc...etc...etc....
so is singaporeans rich......
what say U...........
Must be lah. Sky high prices of housing and cars and hospital bills also can pay. No problem with money lah.
ReplyDeleteThis is vote buying under the sheep skin. Use people's money to make those overseas happy. Why not?
ReplyDeleteWho say singaporeans are not rich?
ReplyDeleteThey are very rich.
Singaporeans flooded the showrooms because they still find the sky high property prices very affordable.
More Sg Quitters will be using such Events to meet up Fellow Quitters to network overseas.
ReplyDeleteSoon, the Programme will be aborted when the Rulers themselves move Overseas.
Me believes many offsprings of Rulers are abroad.
patriot
Gilbert Goh must copy the formula for his Singapore Day at Hong Lim. Now he must know what are needed to bring in the crowd. Even foreigners would want to come in for the free food and drinks and entertainment.
ReplyDeleteIn moments like these, one really feel great to be a Singaporean over-sea.
ReplyDeleteThe minister for golf had derided sinkie who migrated as quiters.
The new leaders are treating the quiters to Great Singapore Fete to make them guilty and long for the motherland they stupidly left behind.
With promise of good jobs if they return, of course, at the expense of loyal and daft sinkie.
Gilbert Goh might have been at the Event had he stayed on in Sydney. And maybe because of it, may vote in favor of PAP in the Next GE.
ReplyDelete"Singapore a truly rich country"
ReplyDeleteAgree with you if it means rich in legalized corruption.
Moral of story.Quitters are more treasured.
ReplyDeleteMaybe this is to encourage those kpkb to be a quitter and will be rewarded a party once a year.Dun keep whining.
Come 2016 GE, pap will most likely increase its votes to beyond 70%.
ReplyDelete70% being the floor rate.
Anything % beyond 70% will depend to the happenings from now to then.

ReplyDelete// Who say singaporeans are not rich?
They are very rich.
Singaporeans flooded the showrooms because they still find the sky high property prices very affordable. //
From the latest preliminary data released, that seems the case given the 9 rounds of cooling measures. September shows a strong rebound in new home sales to more than 1200 units from the low of 400+ in July and 700+ in Aug after the govt introduce further tough cooling measure ( TDSR ) in late Jun this year.
But it remains to be seen all these latest buyers are "smart guys" or heart-landers "lured" into the market when all the "smart money" are cashing out or already cashed out.
ReplyDeleteNonetheless, if they have some buffers or various means of holding power, then regardless of the market direction, in the medium to long term, it should turn out to be a reasonable decision.
The "if" is a big "IF".
For those who can't afford a few months out of job or dependent on dual incomes mortgage servicing, needless to say, there is substantial risk.
Nonetheless, no risk no gain.
But given the very uncertain external macro environment, it is hard to time the market.
ReplyDeleteFor those who had held back as far back as 2011, so far for the mass market new homes, prices are rising unabated, albeit at a moderate rate.
The low interest rate environment may persist well beyond 2014 and even indefinitely. Nobody can tell for sure what measures or economic stance RB termed the "Big Bully" might adopt next year and beyond.
For those not into monetary economics, they may wish to know that SinkieLand does not "pursue" an independent interest rate stance.
ReplyDeleteThe rates here generally move in lock-step with the 1,000,000 pound gorilla.
So, our G can only moderate or mitigate the "stimulus" effect on property prices by the low interest rate monetary policy stand that Sinkieland basically have "no control" over.
Why are they using our hard-earned tax money to splurge on quitters?
ReplyDeleteObviously property prices are exacerbated by the supply and demand situation in SinkieLand in past few years with the massive influx and "under supply".
ReplyDeleteBut going forward, influx are moderated but supply in the next few years would be "massive".
Rentals may moderate but prices are likely still dependent on external environment.
The big question is will the 1,000,000 pound gorilla print less and undertake some tapering in 2014?
ReplyDeleteIf not, property prices is unlikely to head south or at all.
Many local G measures point to moving up the value chain in the foreseeable future.
Quality rather than quantity may be the new keyword.
Short term market may pause to take a breather and regroup, if you know what I mean.
But having said everything, nothing is as guaranteed as the sun coming out in the east, everyone will die eventually and having to PAY AND PAY. :)
Happy slogging till 85 years old.
ReplyDeleteThat may very well be the new normal retirement age in this VERY RICH SINKIELAND.
We suck in all the money from the surrounding like a giant magnet. How not to feel rich?
But with endless money coming in, prices for almost everything are unlikely to stay low including making pinoykias or bringing them up.
Obviously, talk is cheap. Having pinoykias running around means somebody may have to work 25 hours and sleep minus 1 hour everyday.
Ha ha ha ha
Why not stay at home?
ReplyDeleteAnd pay $20 to have dinner with your PAP MP and his grassroots leaders?
The choice is yours:
Stay in Singapore and pay to attend a PAP dinner with your PAP MP.
Or
Emigrate to Australia.
And get invited to a free dinner party in Australia by the PAP gahmen.
The PAP message is clear.
They don't want Singaporeans to stay in Singapore.
ReplyDeleteThe......

Because, what we only have is PLENTY OF MONEY....
Who say they use hard-earned tax money?
No! It is easy easy easy !
Look at the large amount of easy money collected from the record high COEs and sky high property prices.
Just like RB said, better don't live too long if the zeros in one's bank account or total net worth is not more than the fingers on one hand and at least + 1.
ReplyDeleteWith rising prices in everything, those low salary income earners and fixed income earners cannot stop working until they literally drop dead.
Welcome to the very rich new age SinkieLand.
Somebody predicted 90% support for papayaya in next GE in a land wheRE people literally need to work till they drop dead because that is probably the only way to survive for some while they are alive ......
Isn't this a big CONundrum and idio-"CRAZY" facing our VERY RICH SINKIELAND?
Defying Gravity........ple note...
ReplyDeleteSome well known experts predicted that there is an extremely high chance for the property prices in Singapore to correct by 20% to 30% in the next few years.
They cited increased in interest rates, massive number of new private flats, ECs and BTOs coming into the market, lower rental yields, and tighter control of population and FTs.
The very uncertain world and the global economic slow down especially in china, Europe and usa were also their assumptions.
The rich who comes in have too much money and the old and poor literally got "robbed" of their spending power via unabated imported cost-push inflation, massive influx unstoppable demand-pull and several inflationary-compounding policies.
ReplyDeleteThat certainly is a potent concoction only reserved for the strongest and stoutest hearted and bodied human beans.
Any lesser are unlikely to last a life time on this made on earth, heaven of the rich "PAPradise".
Happy slogging :)))))
And don't forget sappork papayaya for > 90% in next GE.
Life can only get even better after that ..........

Ha ha ha ha
I am sure they have been doing that since 2011 and 2012 and 2013.
Go google what expert say for 2012. Also 20 to 30% drop. 2012 came and gone liao. Go check ura website property index for the whole of 2012.
So you tell me lar ......
You trust expert or a fortune teller more?
// They cited increased in interest rates, massive number of new private flats, ECs and BTOs coming into the market, lower rental yields, and tighter control of population and FTs. //
Empirically, interest rate in the land of the 1,000,000 pound gorilla is still at same level at almost zero.
Massive number of new flats coming on stream is likely to be offset by "massive" restructured new polices lah! Go read "between the lines" in the various policies. Sometime cannot be too explicit. Take out the fun of it ..... heh heh heh
2016's election theme, We make everyone a millionaire, by higher property prices!
ReplyDeleteMaybe we need to remind those two hungry arsies that the event is not free and is funded by Sinkingpooreans for Sinkingpoooreans.
ReplyDeleteThose who attend went for the "free food" and nothing much else. Beats having to fly back just to savour some authentic laksa or whatever.
Keeping in touch and hope they're return?
Dream on if what Anthony Sim said is reflective of what those who attended think.
"There were no PRCs, India Indians, Bangla or Pinoys to annoy us.”
Come back here and get some Pinoying in your face.

Anon 10.50 am, the only word visible to my eyes in your whole sentence above is the last word: "ASSUMPTIONS"
ha ha ha ha
Btw, me never say I no patriot want sabo people go buy property then go "jump" if prices head south.
Me only say SinkieLand very rich, sucks in a lot of money in the past 50 years, imported a lot of quantity beens into this "PAPradise", SinkieLand interest rate policy basically dependent on a 1,000,000 pound gorilla's monetary policy, Sept 2013 new home sales rebounded from the lows of July & Aug 2013.
Want to buy, no buy, want to sell, no sell, want to cash out, no cash out all up to you!
I tell you, this is a first calss effort by the Singapore government MASTER MANIPULATORS to get some form of national solidarity from the overseas Singaporeans.
ReplyDeleteAnd it worked. It was a resounding success.
For decades, "quitters" were considered outcasts. Other epithets are "unpatriotic", "traitors" etc etc. "Quitters" were the dirty buggers who benefited from Singapore's "success", cashed up and "quit" for their own narrow, selfish, greedy reasons. Truly evil people this lot. This went on for years -- hopefully to discourage other Singaporeans from emigrating. A true Us-vs-them, in-group/ out group dynamic was successfully crafted by the government.
So much so that overseas Singaporeans didn't want to have a bar of what the Singapore government was up to. Until now. A complete turnaround, and a fostering of a "new relationship" between the Singapore government and Singaporean diaspora.
I for one purposely avoided the show. My friends would think nothing of spending thousands to fly to Sydney, book cars and hotels just to attend "I Heart SG" day and stuff their faces with Wee Nam Kee chicken rice, Indian rojak, nasi lemak and all sorts of unhealthy but DELICIOUS local fare, whilst guffawing to the antics of Puah Chu Kang and other MediaCorps overpaid professional buffoons. Even DPM Teo was caught laughing and smiling. Must be the Sydney weather. Usually the Rear Admiral is got his serious face on.
Now for the cockups: The racist claim is unfounded. The websites clearly states that the event is EXCLUSIVE to Singaporeans and their families, and you have to book ONLINE.
The sg.gov should not have held the event on PUBLIC land, but rented PRIVATE property. On public land, they have NO RIGHT TO EXCLUDED anyone. Lucky for the sg.gov, a Caucasian complained. If they had turned away an ABORIGINAL, there would be a very serious diplomatic incident, which could have gone all the way to the United Nations. (don't fuck with the aboriginals and their sympathizers, many of the rich lawyers who can't wait to sue a government...any government) Lucky. Very fucking lucky. Sg.gov, you better fucking pay attention. Next time the international media will shit on your heads like a swarm of migrating birds with diarrhea :-)
Anyway, to my fellow quitters: they successfully sucked you in. They bought you cheap with a free show and makan -- i.e. "bread and circuses" just like the old corrupt Roman Emperors.
Now they've captured your hearts and minds. Next they'll be asking for your vote in 2016.
Damn fucking smart government. I give credit where credit is due, even if I have to grit my teeth to do so.

my friend told me a story....
the coffeeshop boss in his hdb estate supported the 2013 national day celebration by buying a table for the national day celebration dinner.....
however, seated in the table, celebrating the Singapore national day, are not singaporeans but they are his helpers and cleaners from china.....the boss is no where to be found.....you know what I mean.......

ReplyDelete" They should open day to those people who stay in rental flats in sinky that barely have one hot meal a day. All ministers must make to attend since no airfare costs required. "
Why not also ask all the ministars open house their landed 50,000 sq ft bungalows so sinkies can give them 99% vote next GE?
Surely sinkies would appreciate the kind gesture of letting them have a feel of the housing sinkieland ministars stay.
Then sinkies also will understand why ministars need high pay to maintain such a big landed expensive luxurious spacious high end house that is fit to be stayed by a king or emperor.
Then next time they won't kpkb.
If ministars no open house showcase their big 100,000 sq ft landed property, then next time mb think twice before cast vote lor ......
Btw, remember also ask them give permission bring video cameras and hand phones so can video and take picture but visitors promise only for their own viewing to remind themselves to vote for ministars, confirm definitely 101% surely die die won't sabo ministars put up internet ........
Spending tax payers money to gain back lost ground, ideal.
ReplyDeleteGibert and company can use this ideal, if you can't come, i'll bring it to you.
suckers. really! all free, paid by our govt." a waste of tax payers money, the money could be used to help the poor sinkies. The truth, those Singaporeans, they are never coming back.
ReplyDeleteLike lau ren yuan said his place got jacuzi, and all the things he need, why come back.....to pay and pay.
ReplyDeleteThink i'll also book place to go there, got majong kaki somemore, wa sai.
Kaki.
Sometimes it is quite insane to do things for the sake of doing them. What are the objectives? How much are such things costing the tax payers? Are the objectives better met doing other things back home? Or the money better spent on well thought out programmes in our own backyard?
ReplyDeleteIt certainly would be silly to spend tax payers money on people who have made up their minds to uproot themselves. Why not spend the money and efforts to prevent such brain drain? Does the super talents really believe one superficial meal can convince quitters to come back after all the hassles to settle overseas?
For many of the lower quality people and opportunists attracted to set up home here, many who are exempted to serve national service, super talents are losing big time ex-citizens who have had enough of their nonsense and must pay this pay that, do this do that policies. Going forward, it is inevitable the erosion of the moral authority to rule is mounting with each passing months. From the policies dish out, it is also rather obvious that many ostriches are just deceiving and deluding themselves big time via ........... heh heh, sticking their whole heads in the sand and pretending to be blind and deaf TOADS.
And while our white Aussie visitors are here they can bash up some taxi drivers, hijack a trishaw or two, disobey all the road rules and show you disrespectful drivers the reversed vee. Hee hee or ha ha ha in Singlish.
