The turnout at Hong Lim for the Population White Paper
protest was deserving of a report in the Sunday Times today. It was 500 strong,
much lesser than the first and second protest that saw thousands thronging the
field of Hong Lim. Should this be expected? The initial anger aroused by the
6.9m people that will populate this little piece of rock has fizzled out as
usual. The internet and the two protests have done their job for allowing the
Sinkies to air their frustration. Once that is out of the way, life will go on
as normal. No need to say ‘Let’s move on’. It is a natural course of events
here.
The Sinkies will be unhappy but just for a while. Once they
know that protest will be in vain, they will get on with their lives and there
are better things to do, like making more money and churning the property
market and aiming for that red Ferrari. The govt can now do what they know best
and according to plans. The Sinkies have spoken and all is well. 6.9m it will
be.
It must be very assuring and comforting for the govt to know
that protest in Singapore
is just like that. It is just an expression, nothing more nothing less. No need
to send in the troops to quell the 500 people or 5000 people at Hong Lim. Let
them enjoy their little moments of feeling important. All protests will die a
natural way. Look at the empty ballot boxes case? Forgotten, history! Anyone
aiming at anything? Hawker centre cleaning or Rolls Royce bicycles? All
forgotten.
Now that this trend is confirmed, I think the govt will be
encouraged to loosen the lease and allow it a few feet longer. Let them protest
and say what they like. It is healthy. The people will want to protest and the
govt will want to do what is right. They may appear to be heading for a collision
course, but nay, it is just a public airing, a show of a little unhappiness,
like a little sulking.
The govt need not sweat the small stuff the next time
Gilbert and his friends apply for another protest at Hong Lim. The govt can
even be generous and throw in some freebies like chicken rice to make the
protesters happier. Long live the protest spirit in Sin.
Sinkies now realise that only an opposition party which is strong to contest 100% seats as one party is what really matters. Strong like the PAP. And of course strong to be ready to be govt.
ReplyDeleteNot Hong Lim protests, not internet ranting, and not even big opposition election rallies.
And most important, at least 43% are still happy and satisfied with PAP, and another 17% think it will be worse if opposition become govt.
To sum up, 60% (43+17) is what is needed to get 93% seats to be a strong govt.
Hence Gilbert Goh and company is simply losing the plot by organising those Hong Lim protests. He doesn't really understand Sinkies, unlike PAP.
PAP understands Sinkies very well, that's why it won 93% of seats.
ReplyDeleteAmong the opposition, WP understands Sinkies best, that's why it won 7% of seats.
The rest, including bloggers and netizens of course, don't understand Sinkies, or understand enough to really matter.
Actually not that bad lah.
ReplyDeleteDo you know that when Gilbert Goh organised his first protest at HLP in 2010, it only attracted around 20?
So he has come a long way. Of course he is also regressing with the latest turnout, which is not that big lah. And an indication that he need to change course.
It's very tiring lar to stand there for three to four hours while invited guests got chairs to sit on. Most of the attendees are oldies lar tak boleh tahan to stand so long. I went to the first protest but after that the two legs can not tahan Liao. Very few young people there as they don't want their faces captured and kiss their career goodbye. Oldies nothing to lose so ok lor
ReplyDeleteStinkapooreans are lidat lah!
ReplyDeleteThat's why we kenna thunder bolted for so long and looks like way beyond 2030.
If you can't fight them, join them lah! I am voluntaring for da RC. At least I get free parking and get to hear all the old and useless oinkles and oinkties fart during the RC meetings like in a comic show by Kumar. Free entertainment, free kopi, free parking. Walau eh, who don't want
Bro, also got free excursions from fees collected from those exhibitors for using the vacant lands fir CNY;ND; Christmas and other bazaars just like olden days 08, 24, 369 gangsters protection fees.
DeleteAny new housing priority also given first choice.
Join the RC for these benefits
500 people means that only 500 people still think that protesting will make a difference.
ReplyDeleteThe rest of the thousands are finally convinced that only protest votes in GE 2016 will change anything.
So they are staying at home to save energy to convert the 60% of friends, relatives and family to vote Opposition.
Only protest votes will change anything in Singapore.
Protest not enough.
Wonder why we keep saying its a protest.Tell the Hongkie,PRC ,Taiwan or Korean etc that its a protest and they will laugh till their teeth drop.
ReplyDeleteThis is just a gathering only. Not all but many are loser ,boleow or those PMET hoping to find another PMET job.
Time is precious.Spent our time helping our towkay to work overtime and help solve our tight labour shortage so as reduce the need for FTs or FWs by our action like me,oso make extra income .
Unnecessary so call protest over the same topic is unproductive and will have side effect.Productivity hour lost and create more need for the FTs.
GG should take the opportunity when in Jakarta to see how hardworking the Jakartan are,how they take pride in their job,how they protest even with minimum wage, and not always think that our small times employers are out there to exploit us and spoke too highly of those big companies that he think they are better.Tell Sinkies to treasure their job and not whining on low salary.
Help reduce the need of 6.9 by working longer hours instead,be less choosy and grab any job that comes by.Its more effective that to waste at HLP .Be a good Sinkie.
irs not easy to attend every time to a gathering that the 40% already understands.
ReplyDeleteplus other than protesting, there are many more pressing issues, like a rest after an exhausting week of work...
good day!
Thank for taking time and effort reporting "PWP" - honestly without tambahan susi and gula. No joke, doing it all by yourself churning more than one piece a day, where do you find time taking pictures of naked scenic?
ReplyDeleteI might further add I'll be spending more time here, commenting and sharing my eccentric views as I see fit. Make this place more lively. Thank you.
Regarding PWP, it's time for Gilbert and company to pack up and go away, return before 2016 and try his luck again. My views on Sinkies still remain the same. Most Sinkies couldn't careless, even when they are unemployed and hanging on the cliff by their finger. While at least 20%> of the opposition are die-hard PAP inside and yearning for the old guards!

"500 people means that only 500 people still think that protesting will make a difference..."
I am still pondering how on earth more than 20,000 attended the Pinkdot rally at Hong Lim Park, just a drop at "PWD"? You expect me to believe you?

Ah Quah people not the same as ordinary people.
That's why I support the LGBTs.

The aim for developing underground, so that more spaces can be left as parks and greenery for relaxation as in many developed cities?

Pinkdot is Pinkdot, PWP is PWP.
They are not the same. The organiser and sponsors also not the same.
So how can the turnout be the same, you tell me lah?

Let us be more civic as to individual sex preference orientation. "Ah Quah" used to be acceptable yesterday but NOT today. When I was growing up, didn't know the different why the words frequent and loosely used. Later in life working, getting to know them and their reasons makes me more compassionate. Some of the people I respect most: Chelsea Manning - Whistleblower, Glen Greenwald - Constitution Lawyer, columnist and Anthony Romero - Director of the ACLU. Not forgetting our Dr. Tan Chong Kee - Founder of the demise Sintercom and Au Waipang AKA Yawning Bread -Blogger.

"The aim for developing underground...." Whoever came up the idea developing underground is really genius. You live underground, remain underground and when your time is up, save time and money just leave you in there.
Brilliant! Gilbert and Sinkies watch your arse. When the FT completed the underground cities, the Garmen will forced the minority opposition (New Citizen will be majority) to live in there! :-)

Jc, the law against men screwing as it's disgusting lar. They never outlaw women right because very sexy to watch mah, Tio Bo?

The Law is WRONG. You screw, they screw and I screw. We all screw. Why should you feel disgusting who or what other people screw? Some people cannot screw, either they don't like it or unable to perform? Should we pass judgement on others?
Beware what you said, you'll never know if your offspring or grandchildren will be one. Take your time to find out. Better still talk to one, leave your prejudices behind. You will be surprise what you can learn.
I promise you, will be wiser and a better person.

Give AQUA back another JOHORE ROAD that is taken away from them long ago and I believe AhQua will not be noisy any more.
If all 20,000 LGBTs move into Ang Mo Kio GRC before GE 2016.
ReplyDeleteMaybe we will have a new Prime Minister?
In Singapore parliament, there are 89 MPs + 3 NCMPs and 7 NMPs.
ReplyDeleteOut of the 99;
- 7 are Workers' Party MPs
- 3 NCMPs (From Opposition parties)
- 7 NMPs (appointed by Singapore President)
The Pro-Opposition vote in Parliament is now (7+3)/99 = 10%
So in GE 2016
- If Opposition parties win 47 seats in parliament
- And NCMPs = 3 seats
Then in theory; Opposition has majority in parliament with 50 votes.
But then if President Tony Tan suddenly appoint 9 NMPs to parliament.
Then PAP will still have majority with (42+9) = 51 seats in parliament.
So like that how?
Opposition can never be the majority in parliament tio boh?
Because maybe the number of NMPs is decided by a maybe pro PAP President?
And of course if they are nominated, they maybe must be pro PAP tio bo?
Even if u r not attending the HLP, u can continuously do ONE important thing. That is to shown your unhappiness toward the FT let them felt the pain, let them realize who is the one brought them this pain. let them think twice to become a S citizen.
ReplyDelete/// That is to shown your unhappiness toward the FT let them felt the pain ///
ReplyDeleteI prefer to show my unhappiness by voting out the PAPigs who created this mess in the first place.
Convert 60% of your friends and relatives who voted PAP into Opposition voters.
This will give PAP plenty of pain.
Make GE 2016 into LKY's Last Stand in Singapore parliament.
i supporked, i supporked
ReplyDeleteHERE ...
fuck hsien loong n his running dogs n bitches
my real suppork will be;
CuM 2015/2016 ...

Go and enjoy like "JOHORE BENG" who never serve National Service.
ReplyDeleteWhy complain when the PAP=WP MPs dont care about you and me..
That is why we are being "STRIKE AND HAMMER" by the PAP=WP MPs ...
ReplyDeleteLigtning can hammer pple hard but pple just haven't do anything kanna hammer again and limp kopi. Why so hum chee and double std? Be a man and act like man. Cannot be u wack pple can but if Pple counter back u can't accept and use the law to make pple thiam thiam. Like that who ever want to be a sinkie for rest of life? Everything cannot then must whole life pay and pay. Where got such daft pple on earth like that suffer? Surely pple would sooner or later leave SinkieLand hollow out. Like that where got challenge when ruler is only king to revolving door migrants and tourists but lesser and lesser permanent citizens. Obviously this is the only way out for human beans who still have some spine.

One smart old man did mention that sinkies are daft. He is proven right.
ReplyDeleteActually the poor turnout did not come as a surprise.
ReplyDeleteEvery picnic gathering should be based on different issues.
Just like same movie only very small percentage go watch two or three times.
Even two times is rare.
So should not read too much into it lah.
Maybe the organiser should have some good marketing people in their working committee to get their views on various aspects of such "picnic type" UNIQUELY SINGAPORE style "PROTEST".
Think many overseas counterparts likely view our so called "Protest" milder than their usual weekend picnic gathering. :)))))
It's a great achievement, isn't it?
All thanks and “万岁,万岁,万万岁" to our Great Grand Master for having moulded and still moulding Singaporeans to be meeker and gentler than a rabbit as shown and demonstrated by our so called "Protest".
Maybe should change the name "Protest" to "PAP Party - Political Awareness Picnic Party".
I believe many especially overseas counterparts would agree this name probably is more apt for our this so called "Protest" event.
Tiok Boh?
Tiok, Kee Chiu!

ReplyDeleteSomebody say the NCMP and NMP is not counted during the General Elections.
Correct!
But look at the 6.9 million population white paper.
The NCMP and NMP votes were counted.
So if e.g. Opposition win 57 seats in parliament.
Any a friendly President Crony Tan nominates 57 pro PAP NMPs into parliament.
Do you think an Opposition Government can get any legislation passed or changed in parliament?
You tell me lah!
Hi TL Tan, welcome to the blog.
ReplyDeleteIn away it is true. If everyone is celibate, or everyone becomes a priest or monk/nun, in one hundred years there will be no human beans left.
