The Natcon or OSC had run for one full year and 47,000 Singaporeans have
been invited to talk to the govt. This is the clearest sign that the
govt sees a need to engage the people, to listen to the people, to talk
to the people. It also shows that the views of the people are important.
The govt is encouraging the people to speak up, share their views and
in the making of a Singapore that they want.
No one can doubt the sincerity of the govt for stepping out of their
ivory tower to be up close with the people. One group of people that is
glaringly missing in this equation is the critics in cyberspace. Somehow
the govt does not seem to know that they exist and have a lot of things
to say and want to contribute to the making of the future Singapore.
Maybe if they shout louder or put up their hands they will be noticed.
Stand up to be counted. The govt is talking about an all inclusive
society and would have no intention of leaving them out. It must be a
case of being in the fringes and difficult to know they are there. But
no worry, soon the invitation will come.
The govt is in all earnest trying to get as much feedback and involved
as many people in the business of the country. Wait, just wait, be
patient. All the right people will be invited to share in the making of
the country. Have faith.
Much as the govt wants to talk to Sinkies, the following will not change.
ReplyDelete1. More foreigners will come. Hence it will be more, not less crowded, in future.
2. HDB flat will remain small and prices high, if not higher. The Govt will help Sinkies through the so called "subsidies".
3. Cost of living will remain high, if not higher.
4. Smart Sinkies will continue to make more money, or if not, migrate elsewhere for better life.
5. Arising from #4, the strongest opposition party will not be ready to be govt even by 2016 and beyond because not enough smart Sinkies join them. Or they would rather blog, if they are interested in politics.
5. Hence PAP will most likely remain the govt, even post LKY.
6. Not so smart Sinkies will remain here and suffer due to the high cost of living, money no enough and more overcrowded.
Hence Sinkies will have to accept that these will not change.

How big data is changing the world]
"The core functionality of a smart city requires a vast amount data to be collected
on every aspect of our lives every minute of every day.
The question is how does that data get used?
And it doesn't require a huge amount of imagination to see
how it could be used to monitor people in a very real Big Brother way."

"IN HIS National Day Rally speech, PM Lee announced many new programmes..
However, at the end of his speech,
Mr Lee also cautioned that
'in a deeper sense, these are not plans; these are acts of faith'.
Among the examples he gave was the faith that
'we can get our politics right'
and
'stay together as one united people'."

ReplyDeleteRB
RB, were you invited?
I think Chee Soon Juan was definitely not invited.
47,000 PAPigs were invited to the NatCON.
ReplyDeleteI think the next GE may be in 2015when Singapore will have many big scale country-wide celebrations of 50 yrs of independence, probably on Sept 12, 2015!
ReplyDeleteGE 2015 is to award 50 tight clapping using palms on elite faces.Right side red, left side white.
ReplyDelete'Indian rupee hurtles lower as foreign investors flee' (reuters, 28aug13)
ReplyDelete- can someone ask the gov what happened to the billions invested in india? will we see some heads rolling? is the healthcare thingy a distraction for the billions lost by them?
@RB "This is the clearest sign that the govt sees a need to engage the people, to listen to the people, to talk to the people."
ReplyDeleteIt is done bcos it is not unthinkable and not impossible for another 11% swing in the next GE votes given the perennial eroding support among the middle ground people. Then if no party wants form coalition with them means they will be out for that term assuming the popular votes mirror the seats won/ lost. You think Pretand Sin & Sillyvia Limp would not give those who give them a very hard time a laggi very very hard hard time bk? good luck to those in poisontics ........
Was about to say, why is all this session leaving people like you out, the people that have ideas and can somewhat move a few people along. 47k ppl vs 6.9 mil, isn't that what we call a fraction....lol
