Stylo mylo Vivian in Parliament

The most impressive part of the 10 minutes broadcast on Parliament after the news last night was all about Vivian. At least that was the only thing I could remember. He was a class of his own. He dressed very well, dressed to kill, looked very good and spoke damn well. Indeed he was a very polished debater. He peppered his lecture in Parliament with well measured tone and body language. This is fine art. Great stuff. I gave him full marks for presentation.

When he was speaking the floor listened intently in silence. No one moved. Hsien Loong and all the ministers were there, in deep thoughts, listening or maybe thinking very hard about something else more important, that I am not sure.

It would be nice to know what were in their minds. Were they so impressed and overawed by the articulate performance of Vivian, the smooth talking minister? Or were they thinking that he should cut it off as such matters of ‘I said this, he said that, I am more honourable, he is not, he is lying, she is untruthful’, though well executed, should be said somewhere else and not in Parliament?

It is really interesting to know what were in the minds of the ministers and MPs then. Unfortunately there will be no answers to this. But overall it was a great performance by Vivian. In oratory skills, none in Parliament could come close to him. His parting shot to Low Thia Khiang was superb one upmanship, a little patronizing, but he got away with it.

  1. 2 points:

    1) Relying on internal notes to accuse someone of lying - how reliable is that? Now, everyone can fly, apologies Air Asia, now everyone can lie.

    2) Do we pay ministers millions to talk at length about cleaning hawker centres

  3. Try watching the V Bala performance again - without he audio.

  4. Ha ha, funny. Thought the other side got at least three lawyers. How come sent just one ex-doctor can out-gun ( out talk ) them? If they send their sc lawyer mp then even more chiat lat?

  5. His debating skill did him in.

He lost his sense of proportion just to show his eloquence and oratory prowess.
And failed to appreciate the triviality of the Issue which should have been EASILY settled over a cup of tea at a hawker centre.

  7. Is true! In fact everyone in the house were shocked!

You don't speak like that in parliament!

  8. I agree with Anon 3.10pm.

This girlie, in name, comes across as extremely arrogant in style and substance, like a fighting cock on heat, but his poor judgement of the sense of proportion and the triviality of the issue makes a mockery of his use of his sterling debating skills and waste of everybody's time in Parliament.

I hope he does not end up like Khaw, humbled into wordless non- entity nowadays. If he hopes to score points for himself or the PAP, he failed miserably. Singaporeans know who buttered the bread of the NEA officers handling the case, which puppet master is pulling the strings and who were they trying to bury.

  9. So like that will PM Lee still keep him next election? What say you?

  10. Hsien Loong and Chee Hian were also looking very uneasy.

Haze him only meh? Not also dumpgue him?

  13. But Vivian defeated the SDP in 2011 GE winning with about 60% of the votes! And despite the SDP team even got Presidential material Tan Jee Say plus another doctor (a Dr Ang something) also!

    So what say you?

So I think for sure Vivian will not only stand as PAP candidate in 2016 but also will win again. After all, he is still quite young and also talented.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Maybe Vivian joined the right party and Tan Jee Say the wrong party.

Anyway Tan Jee Say is no longer with SDP.

    The lesson after all these?

    Read the right thing.

    Write the right thing.

    Speak the right thing.

Most important, join the right party.

  16. I think the WP deserved to be criticised the way Vivian as well as others criticised. It is for WP's own good.

This is to make WP buck up and to get ready to be govt by 2016.

I am sure Sinkies don't want the strongest opposition to be complacent, tio bo?

In fact Vivian should be thanked for that.

Not only haze him, will YOG him also (yog as in cantonese proununciation)

  18. If Vivian thinks WP team is so lousy at Aljunied GRC.
Why not Vivian contest against WP at Aljunied GRC in GE 2016.
If everything Vivian say is true, then he will be doing Aljunied GRC constituents a favour.
And WP will be soundly defeated.

    ReplyDelete
  19. He SURE WIN if he contest in Aljunied GRC.

  20. You have got to give it to the pap; these guys are able to trivialise the important national issues - management of reserves, accountability for public monies (think YOG), etc - but can go on and on over a matter like this. If the pap really believes vivien has defeated the WP, why not send him, perhaps together with patriot khaw, gangname teo, et al, into Aljunied GRC and complete the rout in GE2016? Sure win, can't lose, since honesty, integrity, patriotism, K-pop packaged into one team. I'm sure Aljunied residents will make yet another HISTORIC decision. :-)

Singaporean woman: 'The Million Minister touched my breast'
Singapore Man: "Think yourself lucky - he fucked the rest of the country."

I don't see why people are getting so upset at Millionaire Khaw's plans to reform the HDB Flat Subsidy system.
Personally I'm all in favour of evicting people who don't work for a living and expect the taxpayer to support them in homes that they would otherwise be unable to afford.

Starting with The President in the Istana.

  27. I think WP has won a lot of sympathy votes. The entire session is like a ridiculously well paid sissy minister trying very hard to bully a woman who is trying to do her job well. No one likes a bully especially a very well paid and lazy one.

    YES HE DID!

"The content of these interactive sessions has been developed specifically for the Youth Olympic Games to engage athletes. In addition, condoms have been made available for free at the medical clinics."

"As for being upfront and honest, we still don't know what went into the $79.8 million "Other Costs" accounting entry of the bloated $387 million YOG budget. That's enough money for a couple of houses at Sentosa Cove. And while he gave away free condoms for the foreign athletes, we had to pay $2.25 for a N95 mask." - http://singaporedesk.blogspot.sg/

  39. Seriously do we need a minister like him? Plain rubbish!

    ReplyDelete
  40. I m a neutral observer but think vivian should note devote so much time slot on this ..as there r more hot button pressing issues to b dbated in parliament ...if he wan he can do it in facebook or conference call or ministetial statement ...
Ltk is composed n showed a class of its own .... dishonesty is a heavy word to use in this episode ....
Going forward i would like all parties to delve more in depth nitty gritty on those hot button issues rather than political armtwisting ...singaporean must come first , we must build a truely inclusive society , we must aim to help those who r poorer n less well off ....we must have a robust social safety net for those needy singaporeans ...These r more fruitful to b debated in the house ....

  46. I am so surprised by the number of bad vibes against Vivian in the internet. Practically every blog or website I visited tells the same story. Everyone is against him and asking for his blood.

But of course this is only from a small sector of the population that has a different agenda. This group does not think Vivian will survive the next GE. I think they will be very disappointed.
