Single BTO flat at $16K!

Where on earth can one buy a 2 rm flat for $16k? Surely not in Singapore when housing prices are hitting the roof. A small 3 rm govt built flat in the city could cost $400k or more in the resale market. But it is true. This is the latest govt offer to singles at a net price of $16k for a 2 rm BTO flat.

Now for the details. A 2 rm BTO flat is priced at $76k, how to get it at $16k? There is a govt grant of $30k for an applicant whose income is less than $750 or is it $1125 pm. And if there is a joint application by two equally low income applicants, each will get a $30k grant or $60k in full. There you are, $76k less $60k equals $16k.

Now who are the people earning less than $750/$1125? If I am not mistaken, most cleaners and dishwashers in the hawker centres are also earning more than this, probably $800 or $900. I can only think of those who are self employed like some remisiers or part time insurance or housing agents who make a sale once a year.

Oh, I think there is another category of self employed that may qualify to buy, the tin can or cardboard collectors or karung guni collectors, not the karung guni bosses. The latter are likely to be millionaires driving Mercedes around. Oh dear, I heard some were saying that the new karung guni collectors are new citizens or PRs. Hopefully not so. Could they be considered as talents with this kind of skills?

Can people who earn less than $2000 resign and apply as unemployed? Or could they get a temporary job and ask to be paid less than $750/$1125 to qualify for the $30k grant? Can right?

  1. Do they need to sell back flat to HDB if they get married and want to buy a bigger flat?

    RB

I think cannot lah. The gahmen will look at your employment history, say must earn less than $750/$1125 for at least a year to qualify at the time of applying.

So even if you earn $1500 during that period, you are not qualified for the grant, tio bo?

I just guessing lah, because I haven't read the news yet. But I think gahmen not stupid to let Sinkies exploit the loophole which RB described above.

Or else ah, many Sinkies will sure exploit one. Then where got enough flats and this will defeat the purpose, tio bo?

Alamak you daft lah. The gahmen is talking about those old singles lah. Maybe a lot of them already, you know.

Old singles get married for what? You mean can still produce babies without risk in order to increase the TFR?

    ReplyDelete
  5. I think you are young..........

They come together not for babies, they need companionship ........of course not everyone....

    Understand !!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. Old or even young singles get married maybe is good for the couples personally lah. But may not help to improve the nation's TFR if no babies are produced. And that's where the gahmen is very concerned and hence they need to get in more foreigners in the future. And this will also affect and make Sinkies concerned too, tio bo?

Then just remain as companion and together apply for the singles BTO flat at $16K only lah.

Then got flat at $16K and also companion. Lagi best, tio bo?

  9. I think singles, especially those old singles with low income, are quite a lot now. That means their votes also matter. That's why I think PAP knows what to do.

  10. RB, I think the press is misleading by stating that u need only to pay 16k. What I'd they squeeze 6 single people inside, then can one say even cheaper that each one pays 2600 then can stay for 99 years lor

  11. It is not so simple that just by offering those 2 rm flats will influence how they votes......

  12. Question: How is it that a 2room bto flat with 99 year lease at $76k be cheaper than a studio flat with 30year lease averaging $100k?? Or am I wrong in my numbers.

  13. I'm really at a loss. According to what is written is that those earning less than $750 can buy a brand new 2 room flat from HDB. If our cleaners are earning at $900 then I wonder what sort of citizens quality. Those more worst or more langgar than cleaners? If you suggesting that they resign or under declare their incomes then it's different story. Anyway you think so easy to con the government when they got everything about you in their system?

  14. Walau still got people who are over 35 earning 750 or less? My maid already 500 plus levy and food, lodging and home leave etc close to over 1000 and we have sinkies less than 750. Alamak really knn

  17. If heart by pass is only $8, $16k for a flat can.

  18. Just like the eligibility criteria to be President of Singapore.
Maybe only 300 Singaporeans can qualify to be a Presidential candidate.

So likewise for the $16k 2 room HDB flat.
Unlikely to be more than 300 people who can qualify.

  19. 9.17pm, the impression given is that the unit is sold for 16 k mah even only one applicant is qualified. Knn Tio Bo?

  20. Wah. More than generous scheme. This is definitely welfare state stuff.

This is definitely a vote buying policy. Well done PAP, thank you for spending taxpayers money to buy votes :-)

How they have fallen. I remembered inn the 1990s, the top remisiers can make more than $100,000 a day. Yes, not a typo. $100,000 a day. Not per month or per year.

    ReplyDelete
  22. That's why they are culled. But $100k a day was not the norm lah.

    ReplyDelete
  23. $100,000 a day is not the norm - only for the top remisiers like the Remisier King. The others can make $100,000 a month, easy.

    ReplyDelete
  24. The industry is kaput. Remisiers earning $1k or $2k a month quite common. Soon there will be big retrenchment from broking houses and pay cuts.

The business can no longer sustain the cost of keeping those manpower.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Old timer remisiers have had their fortunes for decades. By now, those who had been in the profession for the last 30 years could have the luxury of enjoying their remaining days with abundance.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Agree, the old remisiers had made it. It is those less than 20 years that are not doing well. Many of the oldies are hanging on coz they have little financial obligations with children grown up.

Those that still need to support children will have to move out as the paltry income cannot even feed themselves let alone providing for a family.

At least 50% of the remisiers will be quitting if the situation does not improve and it is unlikely to improve. It is no longer a stock exchange but a gambling house.
