When PSI hits 700, work from home
When PSI 300 is very unhealthy, when PSI above 400 is hazardous, life goes on. No emergency will be declared. Put on your masks and soldier on to keep the economy going. For those vulnerable groups, put on your H95s when outdoor.
At what level of PSI would there be an emergency declared, 700 or 800? Or is it 700 on an hourly reading or 700 on the 24 hour average? Would haze kill at 700 or 800? Maybe not, maybe not immediately. Maybe the symptoms will show in 5 or 10 years down the road.
Assuming that the medical specialists have worked out a number to declare an emergency and all should stay indoors or at home, the best thing then will be to work from home. Some may want to work from their Johore or Iskandar homes. Unfortunately the haze situation there could be much worst than over here. For those with homes in Australia, New Zealand, UK or France, working from home could be nice.
With today’s technology and communication, internet, mobile phones, satellites, working from home in any part of the world can be a reality. A speech on TV from the Istana or from Perth or London would just look the same. 3 ways, many ways live conferences can always be hooked up. And if one has a home in Paris, can sign up for a cooking class at the same time. In Australia, one can park in a vineyard and work from there. Really nice?
Working from home will take on a new meaning, for those with the means. We can even locate our govt overseas temporarily if the haze situation gets pass the emergency level. Come to think of it, I quite like the idea. The Govt should start to explore this idea of an office in one of our overseas training venues and the whole cabinet cum permanent secretaries can be relocated when needed. The world is our oyster.
Science fiction? Not really. Obama’s office will be in Air Force One when the US home land is under attack. In the mean time we can teach the Indonesians that they can arrange meetings with the plantation owners and work out something on a win win basis, maybe with Singapore and Malaysian participations. Singapore and Malaysia can bring a few blank cheques along just in case. There must be a way where money can do the trick for a more permanent solution. With money, all problems can be solved, and haze is not something that is so formidable that money cannot help. Any problem that can be solved with money can be solved. And we are damn good at it. Tiok boh? Even the Indonesian ministers have admitted it. It is only how much. We must not insult them by offering peanuts. Make it meaningful.
At this point in time no one knows when would be necessary to declare a state of emergency. It is looking like when they think it is time then it is time to call one.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you say?
"We must not insult them by offering peanuts"
ReplyDeletePeanuts can be very meaningful for ordinary Singaporeans leh! For the filthy rich, it means nothing. At $600K each, every Singaporean yearns for a few of such peanuts. Giving the Indonesians a few sackfulls of such peanuts may do the trick. A few million peanuts multiply by $600K can be extremely meaningful.
Don't look down on the lowly peanut hor!
For malaysians, they can still run to north territory. For sinkies, they have nowhere to run except to drown themselves in reservoir or sea. I think the gov will not disclose to sinkies when psi hits 700.
ReplyDeleteWhen hazardous is not hazardous enough. What can be worst than this?
ReplyDeleteSinkie should be sent to attend and pass a course to prove that they can stand haze or smoke before giving them jobs.
ReplyDeleteReminded me of a smoke house in P. Brani or somewhere.Make them enter the smoke house and stay for hours in order to pass the course.Especially those self claim pilots, captains, tua kow etc....so as to minimise these people for giving others the impression that Sinkies are so weak and vulnerable.
How many can really work from home?
ReplyDelete'Cabinets' can just be shifted anyhere leh, even outerspace or on the moon, but how to allow employees to work from home if you are a restaurant, supermarket, bank, airport service workers, police officers or shop personnel? Even cooking redbean soup for sale also cannot do at home. NEA will come after you for health reasons.
Anyway, I am comforted that our Government is 'PREPARED'. Just hope the Government does not let us fall down as they often do. Then they also pretend to fall down with us.
I think this regime cannot wait for all the sinkies to die so they can replace us with foreigners. Instead of stocking up the masks and oxygen tanks, they rather spent all the monies on all stupid stuffs like yogs, fake garden, training up foreigners to win sport events etc etc. If you still think this regime is any good, you must be really crazy.
ReplyDeleteI think Sinkies cannot expect PAP govt to declare emergency and stop work at PSI XXX because this will seriously affect the economy and GDP.
ReplyDeleteSo Sinkies who value their life more than their work should declared their own emergency and stop outdoor work if PSI is more than XXX lah, even if they risked being fired. XXX is their own citeria lah, and for me it is PSI 300 and above.
But I think Sinkies being Sinkies, will dare not lah. They will wait for PAP or the boss orders, if the orders will ever come.
Or else how could the strongest Sinkie opposition admitted it is not even ready to be govt? And if they are not ready, who will?
It is very easy to rule and control Sinkies, including expecting Sinkies to continue outdoor work at PSI more than 400.
ReplyDeleteSometimes Sinkies are kiasi (scared die) for the wrong reasons.
ReplyDeleteThey are more scared they will lose their money or jobs, than their health, or their dignity.
Some want to be in politics, but don't want or not ready to be govt.

ReplyDelete[Indonesia makes first arrests amid Sumatra fires - two farmers]
"Police said the two farmers were not linked to any of the eight companies the government suspects are responsible for Southeast Asia's worst air pollution crisis in years."

The small guys got caught again. The big guys still having a party in the palace invited by the President.
ReplyDeleteIncidentally, a 400 PSI is something like 500 on the API scale.
"Work from home". What a stupid, stupid idea.
ReplyDeleteHow many people have a proper office set up at home, which has a closed door to shut put all the distractions so that REAL PRODUCTIVITY can be achieved?
I would guess, no more than 10% of the population. And of that 10%, how many will actually shut the door and do real work, for 8 hours a day?
Dumb idea. The problem is not whether you can work form home or not lah, solve the fucking haze issue. In the meantime, anyone who wants to work, let them. Those who don't -- also let them.
Shut the port. Shut the airports. Stop the economy until the haze clears. It is good that people feel the hardship. At the moment they are not ANGRY enough to take real, swift decisive action focused on a single objective. So, make them pissed off MORE!
I think this woman (suspect she's Singaporean of Punjab descent) is high as a kite.
ReplyDeleteSmoking in train, high as a kite, xxx-rated language, racial and religious slurs....shit, live entertainment on SMRT?
Awesome!
Two private farmers arrested.
ReplyDeleteHaze is over.
Singapore is saved.
Farmers or scapegoats?
ReplyDeleteMaybe they are paid to be arrested. If this can stop the haze, that is a bargain price to pay.
Hehehe, the plot thickens with accusations being thrown here and there by leaders of both sides.
When PSI is 100 million...
ReplyDeleteit still won't be as dense as the average minister.
Matilah, you expect clever idea to come from a blogger? Lucky you have a little stupid sense to know that it is a bad idea.
ReplyDeleteFor you to think that it is a serious suggestion speaks clearly of what is inside your skull.
@redbean:
ReplyDelete>> speaks clearly of what is inside your skull.
Haven't I always warned you about my poorly formed opinions and my barely functional intellect?
If you must know, what is inside my skull is a very disturbed brain.
Since you've forgotten my own warnings regarding the shit I write here, perhaps you want to get checked out for early early-onset Alzheimer's. Your brain may be more fucked up than you think ;-)
haha. Now you can't stop smoking with the haze around. Getting a free fix. Your brain needs it: )
ReplyDeleteI think Singapore's PSI has a maximum reading of 500; whereas Malaysia's API(IPU) can exceed 500.
