Contribution from foreigners to our economy

We had dengue before, but not to this extent. If not put under control, the whole island could become a dengue cluster. We knocked out TB for decades and it is making a grand entrance in this island again.

Now the newest disease descending on this island is chikungunya. It is spreading, from the highly populated foreign worker enclaves in Sungei Kadut and Kranji it is now spreading towards the nearby affluent district of Bukit Timah. First our foreign workers brought them in, and now their generosity is shared by our rich and famous, our elite. The non elite in their high rise flat may be less risky as their surroundings are made up of concrete and not foliage and forests.

Chikungunya is not a native here. Thanks to the foreigners, it is going to be a permanent resident soon. We would not issue them with citizenship, but chikungunya will not go away. And this is only the beginning. What else will the foreigners contribute to our economy to improve the lives of our people? Are there any diseases that have come on board and not reported?

  1. TB was eradicated in Singapore many years ago. Now, it is making a come back.

  2. Dengue and TB outbreaks did not make the opposition, especially WP, any stronger, or ready to become gov.

In fact, NEA, the govt agency in charge of fighting dengue, is also busy taking the WP to task for not even able to take good care of mundane matters like hawker centre hygiene in Aljunied GRC.

So how can WP be ready to become govt when they cannot even handle mundane matters properly?

  3. When they start to invite Fts from

    Africa, these Africans will soon

bring ebola along with them as well

  4. Of course there are lots of bad side effects of having too many foreigners and too many building and construction activities, etc etc.

But if I were the PAP's PM Lee, I will only look at one thing. That is, has the opposition become stronger and better as a result?

If not, every bad side effects of PAP policy is tolerable and within limits.

  5. Not only that, foreigners created most of our problems eg overcrowding in trains, high property prices, becoming a gambling and sex hub and most of all taking away jobs for locals and pushing down wages.

But this Government will tolerate all this just for GDP growth and adding to the reserves. We die is our problem.

Looks like we will have to wait for our rich elites in Bukit Timah to start dying from chikungunya, before any action will be taken.

hope we don't have to wait too long.

  7. You guys are forgetting the "arms race" which has been going on in biology since the first self-replicating cells appeared.

Those small things which we cannot see have always been and will always be a threat to us.

As usual, redbean's severe lack of intellectual rigour fails to consider the possibility that any virus or bacteria can be transmitted across borders by a variety of means.

If you are going to single out foreign workers, why not single out Singaporeans who travel, tourists, hosts like insects and rats who "stowaway" on planes and ships, migrating birds who carry the parasite in vivo or in vitro (in their feathers, for example).

IMO there is nothing redbean would hesitate to resort to (short of violence) to spread the nonsense that "all bad things are caused by those pesky foreigners", and then look for shaky untested "confirmatory data" to support his single-minded and inflexible conclusions.

"Matilah you are an asshole getting high and writing rubbish again" <<== For redbean. Just cut and paste for your response. No need to think...

  8. Haha, Matilah, the Aussie intellectual!

Excuse me, why do you think the Aussies are spraying the aircraft before the passnegers alight on Oz soil?

  9. Singapore is just 2 weeks from major epidemic outbreak if our sewage system breaks down.

Few months ago I monitor NEA seawater site. Our beach at Pasir Ris has 20x more sewage than safety limit for Hawaii.

There are too much shit in too small island.

When Sewage breakdown, we will become a shithole. Then dysentry, TB, chlolerea, TB will spread like crazy. Malaria will make a comeback.

  10. More than 400 new cases of dengue were reported in Singapore this week, bringing the total number to over 9,000 for this year. So far, 1 person has died.

3 weeks ago (May 17), the total number of dengue cases was just 7,000.

  11. Two Sinkies had died from Dengue.
A 60 year old man succumbed yesterday.

  12. Dengue is due to stagnant water breeding mosquitoes. A lot of our drains are covered so we cannot see inside. Also by being covered, water will not evaporate fast and may remain stagnant for a long time. Are these breeding sites?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Maybe the covered drains are chokeful with leaves and rubbish which we or NEA cannot see.

And during heavy rains, these choked drains will block the flow of water, thereby causing flooding.

Is this the reason why flooding occurs whenever there are heavy rains?

  14. 9000 cases but only 2 deaths so far?

That means the mortality rate is very low lah. Just like common flu, tio bo?

  15. 9000 cases mean a lot of medical fees and hospitalisation fees to be made. Good for the economy.

  16. It is strange that the statement only mentions Singaporeans and does not bother to mention PRs and foreigners even though they are living in Singapore too.

  17. The other cover ups include:

    1) increase numbers of HFM disease
    2) increase numbers cancer cases (especially in preschool kids)
    3) increase numbers of STD cases
    4) increase numbers of HIV cases
    5) increase numbers of psychological/ depression/suicide cases

    this list can go on...

  18. redbean:

Please lah, as I've said before. If you think I'm an "intellectual" you have very low standards and you need to have your head examined.

Oh. Sorry. Now I understand. You are being sarcastic. Shit, I almost missed your subtlety.

I'll be the first to tell you about the myriad asshole stupid rules and regulations they have in Australia. I've lived here most of my adult life, and they have yet to rid themselves of this "officious colonial British" attitude when it comes to making rules, laws; cannot do this cannot do that...please lah, I'll take the PAP bullshit over this crap -- regulations and taxes I've been living under any day.

Spraying the airplane is only one of the nonsensical things the government forces people to do.

...but I complain too much. Despite all the bullshit, Australia is a fucken AWESOME place to live. Presently, it is way expensive, however now that China is contracting, we're not earning as much -- which I actually like. Things need to cool down -- we had plenty of "good times", now it is time to be quiet for awhile.

  19. Are there different strains of Dengue?, are the strains that have killed 2 persons local or imported?
