The new Singaporean Aspiration

Does anybody know the worth of a Degree in Singapore?
A Degree in Arts or Science or Infocom from the “Prestigous” Local NUS and NTU >>> Congratulation! You are entitled to compete with your local fellows for a call-centre job starting from $2k+++ with experience.
Any Degree from Phxxxx or Inxxx >>> Congratulation!!! Well done!!! Come work as a drafter or designer or even a document controller and we will pay you $4-6k to start with and more with experience!’
The above is a quote from a blogger in TRE. Some were lamenting that many bankers and managers were replaced by foreign PMETs and ended up driving taxis. There is a kind of changing of guards in our local institutions including GLCs where the locals are rapidly being replaced by questionable foreigners. This is exactly the same as Singaporeans being eased or forced out of the island to seek greener pasture overseas. And the pace will only quicken with the proposals in the Population White Paper.
At the rate things are going, the new aspiration of young Singaporeans is to get a degree from one of the world class local universities by spending a small fortune for it, get a temporary job or a low paying job and work for a few years before becoming self employed as a taxi driver, driving foreign workers and foreign maids around, and helping them with their luggages and hoping for a good tip. But at the same time be prepared for a few lashing when the service provided is not up to the customer’s satisfaction.
Great aspiration indeed. And the foreign PMETs will be filling up all the cushy jobs in the private sector, GLCs, stats boards and even ministries. A great and bright future awaiting our young Singaporeans.
Time for more stringent legislation like different quotas for foreign companies, GLCs and local companies on the number of foreigners they can employed at PMET level.
ReplyDeleteAll stats boards and ministries must hire Singaporeans at management level and above except for talents that are not available.
Those ministers who think their breed are of exceptional talents better think carefully as their children may also turn out to be duds and be ousted or have their jobs taken over by foreigners.
With the massive foreign reserves, how much you think in 2016 profit sharing scheme - $1800, in 2011 was around $900 per person?
ReplyDeleteRB, knn is all I can say
ReplyDeleteMinimum wages is the right criteria, so many companies got to aim higher make the best of local workers, as 90 percents of the countries has minimum wages to protect local workers, so that foreign companies can't get cheaper and cheaper foreign labour from the cheaper and cheaper third world countries, which they can get cheaper third world labour if no minimum wages?
ReplyDeleteIn the same time lower the income gaps?
In many countries of the world, they has similar problems like Singapore, they don't use immigrants or cheaper foreigners to solve their problems, it is strange Singapore always use this strategy? Worse Singapore is a small island how many people it can continue to take, I want they got consider this the serious implications of overcrowding, driving up the cost of living higher and higher?
ReplyDeleteI employ a maid to help with the houshold chores to give my children a better environment.
ReplyDeleteBut I don't kick my children out and adopt some smarter kids just cos they are smarter or earn more. To raise the houshold IQ or household income? What do these numbers mean compared to the well being of my children?
In Singapore, Singaporeans are the children of the country. The chinese have a saying, if the upper beam is crooked, the lower pillars will also be crooked. The entire government and civil service is too obsessed with the number game and has totally forgotten that their primary goal is to take care of the children of Singapore.
Driving up cost of living is good for them. The just rewrite their pay checks. Then their property values all go up by the millions.
ReplyDeleteNot happy?
ReplyDeleteVote opposition to carry out the conversation with PAP in Parliament for you.
More number of co-pilots is something possible in the foreseeable future....
ReplyDeleteLive realistically said PAP MP Sitoh Yih Pin.
ReplyDeleteAnd he is right.
Dont angan angan or live with lots of high falutin ideas. PAP DONT OWE YOU ANYTHING JUST BCOS IT IS THE GOVERNMENT.
Hi RB, before any social revolution, there must be prophets to wake up the sleeping masses.
ReplyDeleteI thank you for doing that.
1.5 years ago, I am the only one harping the Singaporeans dalits problem. Then I was accused of being racist.
That time, FT Indians come out all front to attack Singaporeans on all forum, chat room and blog sphere. We are bullied. We think that we are racist. I was extremely angry at these wicked people.
I write and write, uncovering tricks regarding FT Indians. After the collective efforts of many bloggers, the "Singaporeans Dalits" problem is going mainstream. Singaporeans started to realize we are discriminated.
Many are also aware that they are actually being replaced by low IQ racist bastard.
Athough PAP still continues its Dalitization of Singaporeans relentlessly, many of us are aware of the problem. It will be harder for further to pursue discriminations against Singaporeans at such high intensity in the future.
In addition, the immediate fruits is we manage to cleanse the online forum a blogsphere of racist bastard to a large extend.
Singaporeans netters started to use terms like Dalits, Brahmins, caste system, Dravidians...etc That give me immense confident to fighting racism.
I thank you RB for giving me a free rein on this forum. This is the place where I can reach many many more Singaporeans than my blog.
I believe many elites and PAP dog also come here.
I understand that RB, you got to be moderate. For me I will speak 100% undiluted truth, never mind what others are thinking.
If even more Singaporeans are informed of our Dalitization, I believe many more will fight and resist the corrupt FT Indians.
The conditioning of the Sinkie mind is an ongoing process, to make them think they are daft, soft, not competitive, they are racists, rude and unfair to foreigners. And these things sink in to the extent that Sinkies feel guilty of these crimes, that they are in the wrong.
ReplyDeleteSinkies must stand up and whack those that put a derogatory tag on them. Sinkie must know what they are and their real worth.
My japanese company formed a new IT team and hired several from india.
ReplyDeleteThey orefer india.
Manager is PR, snr mgr a singaoorean.
My mgr told me to pick up the skill in three months or be sacked. No training will be given.
But i soon realise after a few months, the india team lead never cc me in any project mails as the email group he created does not include me who is part.of the team.
All india and not a sinkie.
The pr mgr ignores this .
I asked the team lead include me in the group. He said yes but never do it. Twice i asked afyer a gap of a month that he said yes but never do it.
Bullied by majority india situation in my home turf.

Snr mgr singaoorean must be part of the whole game.

Office politics is rampant in Singapore. Managers fear get replaced by talent Singaporeans young man. Many managers play politics to destroy young Singaporean subordinate.
The problem is? The wage differential between managers and executive is way too high, and managers has too much power. This is designed by LKY and his NWC.
Its intention is to creation division also to make us fight for top post, so that everyone work hard like mad.
This is terribly wrong especially in engineering. In tech companies like Google, manager salary is around US130,000 and eng, ineer is 110,000. There is no politics. Many capable people want ot be engineer. Due to their relative low salary, manager's dignity is capped, so is their power.
In Singapore a graduate engineer could draw as low as 2500, and manager 8k.
This create a lot of fight, a lot of job hop. It also give managers a lot of power. This is why Singapore cannot innovate. LKY's system need to die first before we can have R&D.
Why young Singaporeans want to vote for PAP I will never know.
ReplyDeleteBcos they can tell in their bones that there is no better alternative.
ReplyDeleteYou can only earn what the paying party values you.
ReplyDeleteIf you want to earn more, the answer is SIMPLE -- learn how to create MORE VALUE for the person signing your paycheck.
Got simple logic?
Most young people I talked to are against the PAP. The only exceptions are the new citizens. I guess PAP's power base is still the poorly educated older gen who had benefited from the system.
ReplyDeletePeople who bought HDB at 20K and now worth 700K. Or old ah peh renting out their flats for 2.5K a month and never have to do anything ever again, drinking kopi & beer at the coffeeshop everyday. These people just don't understand that all these money did not come from the government or their policies, all these money directly or indirectly are being paid for by the younger generation. Paying sky high prices for a public housing and COEs for a car and losing out job opportunities to imported labour.
I really pity the new generation of Singaporeans.
Matilah, have you been clicking on the adverts to buy me a cuppa of kopi?
ReplyDeleteThe high property price is reaching a point when it is turning into a curse. Those who have bought long ago will be happy if they collect rent or cash out. Those with many children will be crying out for their children.
This is passing the buck or the debt to the young and future generation. It is not sustainable especially when it is a 99 year leasehold. Also the income of the young is not rising fast enough to catch up with this ballooning asset price.
Sinkie parents should save their money in tuition and university fees. Taxi drivers need not be so highly educated. O level should do and can start work earlier.
ReplyDeleteThe Singapore Dream is easier to attain now, and driving taxi gives one a lot of freedom, working at one's own time, and be your own boss. Don't have to take shit from foreign talent bosses.

Ever since one taxi driver complaint FT Indian to me, I survey ever taxi driver who they hate most? 100% told me its FT Indians.
You still face shit when you drive cab. If you work in Comfort, company will come down hard on you, whenever any FT Indian complain. Some feed back the that red cab run by gas company will protect their driver more.
We have a FT Indians problem now. If we do not resist now, FT Indian will shit on our cab, and ask our taxi driver to lick them clean.
Dont do it, they will complain.
typo
ReplyDeleteI survey every of my taxi driver who they hate most?
My survey showed taxi drivers to be among the most happy workers in Sg. They are satisfy with their incomes, flexi working time and most of all the constant mentions by the leaders. The NTUC Cabbies especially will sing much praises about the government when You talk about Sin. Most appear more patriotic than civil servants.
ReplyDeleteFT Indians are the pride of Nathan. They are the biggest business community in Singapore.

ReplyDeleteYou are entitled your own opinion.
'taxi drivers to be among the most happy workers in Sg' - the state owned taxi companies are treating the taxi drivers nice for a motive. once all singaporeans males ended up taxi drivers, they will have no other skill to compete with immigrants and they will justify to import more immigrants and will start to ill treat the taxi drivers so the jobs will eventually end up in immigrants hands. in the end, those ex local taxi drivers will end up as shit collectors cos that is a job immigrants do not even want to do. this high influx of immigrants is worst than being colonised - this is a foreign INVASION.
ReplyDeleteFT Indians are the pride of Nathan, Tharman and Shanmu. Vote opposition to rid the weeds out from the garden.
ReplyDeleteI suspect FT Indians are shitting on our Taxi drivers simply because they are Singaporeans. To them, Singaporeans are animals, so they need to shit on us to get us redeem from sin of our past life.
ReplyDeleteAnd FT Indians shitting and firing of our PMET is a norm today. The process will go on until all Singaporeans are being replaced by FT Indians in PMET.
Next FT Indians will ask PAP to allow FT Indians drive taxi. Then FT Indians will further shit on our taxi driver even more. Until all taxi driver are being replaced by FT Indians.
Next follow by hawker, delivery man, macdonald man, toilet cleaners...etc...
All are going to be replaced by shipping low IQ Indians from India.
Eventually Singaporean woman may only develop career as a ass peddler in Geylang and our man could chose either to become a beggar or work as eunuch. I think shit collector job would go to Dalits imported from India.
To our Singaporean brothers, we have it enough, It is time to tell FT Indians to stop their shit.
Bus drivers are now called 'bus captains'. The name change have made them well respected nowadsys. So don't call cab drivers 'taxi drivers' please.
ReplyDeleteWhen graduates become 'taxi drivers' as their main source of employment, 'taxi drivers' must be given a new job title. Something highly respectable. Any suggestions?

ReplyDelete>> Matilah, have you been clicking on the adverts to buy me a cuppa of kopi?
I can't see any adverts. I'll be glad to click, no worries.
>> The high property price is reaching a point when it is turning into a curse.
C'mon lah. Back in 2001-2004 people were complaining that the property had collapsed and people were getting "poorer". You could rent in Orchard Road for $1500. Bk Timah semi-D $700k. Complain, complain everywhere.
Me? I was buying. People said I was stupid, crazy, mad. For a few years I ws paying until backside nearly koyak. Kani nah, rental cannot cover loan -- got to put money every month.
Then the market turned, Alan Greenspan started printing money again, (aka "the Greenspan Put") after raising interest rates in 2000 and causing the tech boom meltdown, which spread to other sectors in the global economy.
Now after several "puts" by Bernanke's Quantitative Easing, we see "hot sectors" like Singapore property market suck up liquidity and raise asset prices. Why not? If I can borrow at 1%, where the fuck would I put the money? US property? No. Aussie mining? Maybe? Gold? Sure, if you have a fetish. But one of the best places is: SINGAPORE PROPERTY -- reason: natural SCARCITY, coupled with other "drivers" -- healthy economy, open economy, no capital gains, very little restriction on foreign ownership.
Rapidly rising asset values is almost always the result of the governments tinkering with the money supply and the credit markets.
Blaming it on "greed" is like blaming air crashes on gravity. Everyone is GREEDY: if you can own an asset with huge upside potential and very little downside risk, most people will go for it. You borrow at 1-2%, you asset is appreciating 20-40%, what the fuck? Of course buy lah!
What's more, when so many people are "all in", the govt. will print more money to keep the market from collapsing. So the prices keep going up, until they get so high people can't afford repayments anymore, and the tipping point is reached.
Got money printing press?
Matilah, you blind or what? The advertisements are on three side columns. You need reading glasses?
ReplyDeleteHi Veritas, at the way you are going, you are going to be known as FT Indian basher. Let's cool it a bit. You are coming in very strong in this issue.
ReplyDeleteInteresting Post, like this one must be maintained so I'll put this one on my bookmark list of HR Consultants. Thanks for this wonderful post and hoping to post more of this. Have Great Day.
