A bad policy is a bad policy

When has a bad policy been called a bad policy? I have never heard of a bad policy being called a bad policy in my entire life. And who else from the establishment would dare say such a darn thing? But when things are really getting bad, when it hits the pocket hard, people will say the darnest thing.

Two surprises over two days were just too much to stomach. Yesterday Boon Wan came out with his back to basics for housing, which if faithfully executed, could bring the cost of public housing to a level a few years back. It is still better than the unceasing daily or monthly increases that are being reported. Property prices are higher by so many per cent month on month or year on year, as sure and consistent and predictable as hot air balloon rising.

Today, of all people, Han Fook Kwang wrote in his Sunday sermon that the way COE prices are going up is simply, yes, bad policy. Ouch! Did I hear the wrong thing? No, he elaborated in details why the policies affecting COE were badly managed. As simple as that. So many things were done wrong. It is like saying an old person is a bad driver, a woman is a bad driver, a blond is a bad driver. Just make sure the driver is not an old blond woman all in one.

But I tell you, some minister is going to jump and demand a correction, that it is good policy. And I too agree that it is a good policy, if only I have all the money to pay for the $100k COE. Similarly, all the new measures to curb car ownership are good policies if one can afford a few Ferraris or other super cars. Only those poor losers will say the policies are bad, cause they can’t afford to pay. So, it can be good or bad, depending on whoever is writing the policies and how they affect or do not affect his or her pocket.

Han Fook Kwang concluded by resigning to the new realities. He advised the losers to take public transport. There is no better way out. In consolation he said the people living in big cities like Hongkong, Tokyo, London and New York also taking public transport, so it must be a good thing or a normal thing. Singaporeans have progressed to be more like New Yorkers or Londoners, good quality lifestyle.

Singaporeans should be grateful that their lives have improved over the years, from car ownership to taking public transport. This must be a good thing I supposed. I dunno what is the next good thing that Singaporeans can look forward to?  3rm flats with 30 year lease at $100k without compromising on the quality of life. 2030 is looking so exciting by the way we are progressing. I am really looking forward to it eagerly.

  2. Guess which ex minister's brainchild was the 2 most screwed up policies? He is still collecting his MP's allowance, FYI. And he was still advocating a maximising of foreign workers this present day during the PWP debate.

  3. Don't forget, still collecting a few hundred K in minister's pension for life.

  4. Since civil servants are paid a pension.
Maybe gahmen should charge erp and COE on civil servants who live beyond 10 years after retirement.

  5. These people pick and chose what they want to report. Why not mention that in HK, taxi fares are cheap and taxis readily available. Why not mention that HK, NY etc have more democracy than Singapore.

We want to be like other big cities but we curb the important things that make a big city cosmopolitan. Singapore is only for the rich but the main problem here is that unlike other cities, Singapore is also a country.

May be it is time that Singapore should reserve a location (like the reservations in the USA) where only natives can buy land, houses and no restriction for car ownership. How about Pulau Ubin or one of the other island?

  6. Pulau Ubin is a good idea.
But the rich (and PAP Millionaires) will stay there by themselves.
And they can happily crash their Ferrari into each other for all we care.

    1. Right bro, now this Teo what pin said expect more crimes as the population ages.

Did they not realised that with the influx of these undesirable trashes, definitely the crime rates will go up.

This is due to their bad policy. Why blamed on the ageing population.

      More people definitely more crimes

    Typical brainwashed Sinkie.
    Boh Pian attitude.

Instead of losers taking the public transport.
I suggest the losers exercise their backbones as citizens and vote Opposition.

  8. When you get cocksuckers -- who earn so much which leaves the private sector aghast -- making "policy" which affects people doing real work for far less money, then it is to be expected that the policy is going to STINK.

Singapore is small, and the population is growing. I say, let the people buy cars if they like -- fuck it. Any which way you cut it, the place is going to be crowded -- with heavy traffic and traffic jams.

Every big city has traffic jams. Traffic jams are a sign that the economy is pumping and people are doing productive shit.

I don't know why the PAP assholes are so hell bent on curbing the ownership of cars -- to the point where it makes no sense to buy a $30k car and pay $100k for the COE. Fuck it, you might as well buy a $1mill car and pay $100k COE -- i.e. the owners of expensive cars "win", and those who can only afford small cars LOSE -- lose their FREEDOM.

I say "yes" to cheap cars and traffic jams. What's the problem? In other crowded cuntrees people adjust their schedules. This is nothing new. If you are in a hurry, then move your lazy ass and LEAVE EARLY. No rocket science here.

  10. When was a bad policy called a bad policy? asked RB. The answer my friend is blowing in the wind.
Why was RB never heard of a bad policy being called a bad policy. The answer my friend is you have been living under PAP govt your entire life.
You cannot jolly well expect the party of the day to call their policies bad when they bring in billions and billions in fiscal surplus year in and year out.
Why did HFK called the COE policy bad? Well, he renewed COE for his 9 year old car for $20,000 in 2010. Had he done so in 2009 he would have made a bundle as the COE in 2009 was only $3800.
Me think HFK was daft to renew the COE for his 9 year old car. He should have and could have bought a new car and will be laughing all the way to the bank when the COE hit $100,000. But they he would not call COE polciy bad. Would he?
    What do you think?

  11. A bad policy is a bad policy, but how come it took them so long to realise that when even the old uncles and aunties already knew?

Goes to show that even paying millions get us all the monkeys doing monkey business all these years.

    "I refer to the articles
'Malay singaporeans poised for next level'
    and
'Malays have less social capital: Study'
    (Sunday Times, Mar 10).

It has been said that in 'Statistics',
whenever you are given statistics to show that a particular group has become relatively better off,
you should also try to find statistics that may show otherwise,
so as to have an alternative and balanced perspective of the subject matter.

So, I decided to take a journey back in time
to try to find some statistics about the Malay community, relating to the statistics cited above, that I have written about in the past.

    "Err
didn’t the govt rubbish the SDP’s idea of lowering the cost of HDB flats
by making it a condition of getting cheaper flats that they be resold to HDB?

    And didn’t Khaw just say
that this idea will be studied?
But didn’t credit the SDP for suggesting it?"

  17. In Japan and China, the oldies are ageing nicely with few crimes targetted at them. Here, with hungry young and hot foreigners all over the place, some living in HDB flats, what do you think?

What is the cause of these potential oldies attacker?
