Punggol East – Another statement for social media

Apart from reading the ground well, social media played a very significant role in the toppling of the PAP candidate in Punggol East. All the track records, more carrots and all the big gun, and another elite served on the platter were not enough. Ah Lian was seen as good enough, better than all the things the govt could offer, to serve the people of Punggol East. Isn’t this something?

The most important role of social media in this case was its call for the voters to vote wisely, not to split their votes in view of another two more opposition candidates. Votes going to SDA or RP will mean votes going to the PAP. As a result, the two candidates received abysmally small number of votes, RP with 1.18% and SDA with 0.56%. Thus they could not do any harm to the chances of the WP. The call for a better future for the children and their children given the extremely high cost of living and very competitive working environment were well received. And all must remember the call for SDP to withdraw, which they did, to pave the way for a direct fight between the PAP and the WP.

I credited this honour to the netizens simply because there was no such call in the main media. The people were voting in unison, as one single united force, to put up another opposition candidate into Parliament. The great credentials and reports of Koh Poh Koon were turned around as reasons to dump him in favour of Ah Lian. The calls to support WP were quite widespread in the social media and totally silence in the main media. And if there was no social media, these calls would not have gone far and wide to the ears of every citizen. Now the citizens understood why and how they should cast their votes to make every vote counts.

One has to admit that social media alone could not do much damage. There was a confluence of events that made the call that much more meaningful and effective. Social media and its direct readership could still be small. But the impact it carries is not something to trifle with.

  1. True social media has a role for the defeat of PAP candidate in the PR by election. However I feel that the true heroes are those who dare to write to social media on issues that MSM do not raise. The greater hero of them are those who wrote to the social media and and are not afraid to us their real name like RB aka CKL!

    Good Morning.

Must say the MSM should not and cannot tell voters who to vote. However, got to say that the Medias have had always been prejudiced against anything and anyone not in favour of the Rulers, their policies and their schemes.

Conversely, the Medias have shown clearly that they are mouth pieces of the Regime and no doubt at all that they are showing themselves as the Official
State Medias. They are also the Greatest Brainwashing Machineries of the Regime. Dare me says that they have no qualm in showing themselves to be the tentacles of the Regime in the Function Of Indoctrination Of The People.

Unfortunately for them as well and regimes around the World, the New Media had and is showing its potency everywhere.

The Medias, be it traditional(read Old or Main Media) are but just machines. Their use and effectiveness have to come from the integrity and honour of the people running them. Most are running dogs of regimes around the World. They are not fair and unbiased most of the time, politically speaking.

The MSM, may I say, can be liken to a boat and fire. When properly used and not abused, it is useful tool, but, if and whence misused and abused, IT CAN CAUSE DOWNFALL AND DAMAGE, which had happened frequently lately.

  4. This is the result of by-election. By-elections are prone to "big swings". PAP still got a lot of supporter. May be more than GE2011. Don't believe please see the result of GE2016.

  5. Its the Ying and Yang force that matter. Not social media or main media.
I made some self study and realise that the Ying force is more powerful and lucky in catching attention in North East PasirLis and Ponggo Ee at this period.
Ying here can easily cause failure of men but can oso win almost every battle they are involve with men.
Can tompang and ask the Ying here to by 4D or Toto but never offend the Ying here.
If the contestants are Ah Lian, Ah Huay,Laura or Cecilia, the results will be different .
Sometimes must believe in Ying and Yang instead of social or main media.

  6. Some people are still in denial mode. The ground support for the MIW has shrank.

From now to 2016 if things get better, we can say that it is the result of the work of the WP MPs to keep the government on their toes. If things gets worse, it is because the MIW keep coming up with poor policies.

It is wishful thinking that the PAP can get a better result in 2016. If they do not wake up, they may not even be the next government. That my friend is how bitter and sour the ground is currently.

    1. Dear Agongkia:

Do save your time talking about
      Ying and Yang.
      Westrnised Sinkies catch no ball.

Now, many Yang(male/+) are scared of Ying(female/-). As You can see; some got sacked and one lost in an election, all because of Ying.

However, do wish that You are special and are thriving with the augmentation of Ying in your life. Some folks do built their fortune and empire with it. Hence, the Saying ' Behind every successful man, there is a woman'. For such man, the loss of the woman may signal the downfall. So, keep your women healthy and happy.

  8. Redbean,
the strategy to outwin PAP is very simple. No need for PHD. Dummy can also know.

It is blatant fact that ShittyTimes and ShittyMedia are mouthpiece of PAP, so whatever PAP say so, do it in opposite direction. If it ask for A then go for B path because PAP will always lead you to PAP's advantages.

    What do you think ?

  9. What do LHL, KPK and TPL have in common?

Every one of them thinks that everything in Singapore is going well. There is nothing to change.

KPK. He has never come across a patient turned away for lack of money. I believe his personal experience. But I also remember the news of a couple who sold their HDB for cancer treatment of their daughter.

  10. "What do LHL, KPK and TPL have in common?"

Best of all, KPK has never come across people who has no car. Majority of people don't own cars because of high cost of buying and using it.

but KPK can say ""Well, everybody has a car, we have two - my wife drives one, I drive one. We are both professionals, we need to travel" -"

Who is Everybody and who is Nobody ? Nobody is always responsilble for the shit of PAP's blunders. Are they friends of PAP ?

  11. I agree with Anon 9.29 about some people still in denial mode. Let the PAP believe this, continue with just tinkering with present policies and get a bigger shock in 2016.

I too do not agree that getting one more opposition MP into Parliament does not change things. We can really see already, what the loss of Aljunied GRC and WP holding on to Hougang, despite the scandal, did to the PAP.

Would they be reducing minister's salaries, tweaked the foreign worker's policy, accelerate the pace of HDB construction etc if they had swept all the 87 seats in Parliament? Then, they would turn around and say that all their policies are well accepted and the result is that poorer Singaporeans will continue to be screwed harder.

All that needs to be done is stop selling property to alien and moderate the intake of foreigners.

  12. Social media is effective only because PARTY policies are screwing up many Singaporean lives. Too many Beh Tahan Singaporeans; critical majority mass has been reached.
