Punggol East, 4 corner or 2 corner fight?

It is now confirmed that four candidates have submitted their nomination papers and accepted for the by election. Koh Poh Koon(PAP), Lee Li Lian(WP), Kenneth Jeyaretnam(RP), and Desmond Lim(SDA) will be standing for their respective party. Somehow I still look at this as a straight fight between PAP and WP. As for the other two, very likely both will lose their deposits, $16k!
This looks set for an exciting battle with the individual candidate’s credentials being less of an issue as they are all reasonably qualified professionals. The main issue is really more of a battle against the PAP and the side issues will be what had happened recently in the constituency and of course AIM. The latter will be high on the list of the opposition camp to take a good dig at the ruling party.

I am wondering whether there will be any turnout or how small the turnouts will be for the rallies of RP and SDA when the main contestants will be slogging it out in centre court.

How many dirty linens will be aired this time?

I like KJ's objective. Return wealth to Singaporeans.

I hope other parties can adopt the same objective.

  2. DL is simply a good for nothing showoff. KJ has some brain but unfortunately very little charisma, bad public speaking ability and a streak of stubborness bordering on the idiotic. Only hope to knock out the PAP in PE is WP. One more seat loss will certainly cause LHL to brood over a few months.

  3. If this BE is to unseat PAP then KJ and DL had done voters a diservice. No matter how brilliant you are, BE is not the time to raise national issue. This should be reserved for GE. Let the one with highest chance go forward to contest the incumbent.

  4. DL and KJ are just killing their meagre chances in 2016 by contesting PBE.

One is destined to be the perpetucal loser, while the other is obviously just following in the stubborn footsteps of his forebear.

Sometimes not running away from a fight, even with threat of death, is not a good stategy, when the odds are so obviously stacked against him. Saving to fight the battle in 2016 may be a wiser choice.

Now, if the PAP wins, both of them are going to shoulder part of the blame and antagonise opposition voters all over the island. They may well bid farewell to their political careers.

  5. The 'Theme' of this by-election:
Ruling Party vs. An Alternative, and seriously we need another co-pilot in the team to safe-guard the interest of all Singaporeans.

  6. My family and I will vote for KJ.
We know he cannot win this election. Voting for him is to
encourage him to contiue to speak up.
I think he should get about 15% of the vote.As long as WP n RP has more than 50% of the votes,PAP shld
    the message.

I don't know what kind of disconnection is that.
For your info, KJ has all along speaking up, and he should rethink his strategy if it does not work. If it does work today, it will not work tomorrow for the voters.

Hello, PAP already get the message everytime, everyday, every moment from the ground , from the net, and they choose to ignore it because they can, they will, and they don't want to care. So what message you talk about.

Ok, lah, don't say I don't support KJ.

I give him 100% moral support, ok, happy ? Can go to sleep now ?

  8. If WP or any alternative party wins, it will send a very strong message to PAP to treat the people like humans and not like cashcows.

  9. After 50years of elite rule, pls ask yourself whether your kids or grandkids can
    (1) afford that 99 years state own flat (2) afford that car to bring family out (3) have a job that will not be replaced by a foreigner with fake qualification. If your answer to any of the above is NO, then STOP voting for the elite party.

  10. Maybe PAP will get ZERO vote and they will have to do lots of damage control and will have to be more people (not money) oriented.

  11. i predict Pappies will win this by-election by a narrower margin than previously. if it was a straight fight between pappies and wp, wp would win.

  12. If and when PAP wins in this Punggol East By Election, we Singaporeans should congratulate PAP. It means it has been competent, efficient, corrupt free and good.
When over thirty thousand Singaporeans said so, then it must be.

  14. PAP is facing political bankruptcy.
No vision or ideology other than to make rich people even more rich.

  15. It's a pity that both RP and SDA will lose their deposits. It's ok for SDA as that guy is a spent force so nothing to lose but poor Kenneth will have his creditability totally destroyed when he lose his deposit

  16. Vote Opposition Party better. Vote Opposition and govt's money is your money.

Citizen become rich and country become poor.

See who is the real boss.

99 year hdb become cheaper so that our children and grandchildren all can afford. One step further, make them freehold so that it is not a lease anymore.

Make cars cheap, so everybody who needs one can afford one. Cases like if you have 1 or two elders who stay together, or who have young children below a certain age, will be eligible to have a heavily subsidised car from the govt.

Talent foreigners should not be welcomed here anymore, unless it is a rare talent that cannot find here. If Singaporean ask for 9 to 5 pm job and $3000 a month for waitor job, then employer must employ them. AFter 5 pm the restaurant must close shop.

  17. Anon 8.37 should just ignore those illogical comments. They are paid to do their job, so let them do the necessary, since we know who they are and what is their motive.
