It’s time to bury the hatchet, when there is still time

The news of Chee Soon Juan’s offer of $30,000 to settle his defamation damage awarded to LKY and Chok Tong, and the acceptance by the two, came as a relief after so many years of acrimony. It is time that the age of brutal body blows to opposition politicians be put to an end and a new and clean chapter be allowed to start anew.

All Sinkies know what happened and how ugly that things had been and at times feel very shameful over the whole ordeal, but keeping a disinterested silence. It does not mean that Sinkies are apathetic to the unpleasantness and smell of the politicking that went against the grain of human decency.

Now that we are seeing a closure to this ugly past, let us all hope that it will be the last and will not happen again. We have civilized politically over the years, I hope, and any animal instinct or savagery should not stick onto the new designer suit. We have to progress politically and individually to be a better country and better people.

But until the last nail is in, anything untoward can still happen. Pray that things will be better as we step towards a brighter future of genuine inclusiveness and not just another hope or inspiration.

  2. And if he steps into the ring, he will get himself punch left, right, centre and everywhere.
No new round, no thrill and award.

Wot to make of this change of heart ah...to compensate for the years of failed PAP policies..realisation that Chee's political manifestos makes more sense than all the housewives n table- tied generals? That the Vasoo's of the world are harder n more expensive to maintain for their unwavering lackeyship...wait for changes to the MSM...it's coming...in time...Singaporeans will realise that..passion..heart..n soul are really instilled by the Marshalls..Chia..Lim..Jeya n Chee

  7. Hey you rascal, when I say 'we are civilised politically', only those who believe so need be included in the 'we'. It is okay if you don't think you are one of the 'we' : )

  8. Talking about Machiavelli, one of his teachings is that when rewarding someone, do it in bits and drips. Do not stuff everything on the plate at one go. It will not work as the rascal will demand more and more.

By holding back, and give a bit at a time, the positive effect can be prolonged. But Machiavelli did not say what if he is rewarding himself.

There is so much hate in this old
man that any one who opposed him had neen demolished and destroyed.
These victims had been abused and their families destroyed just for speaking up. Chee soon Suan,J B Jeyeratnam,Dr Lim Hock Siew Chia Thye Poh,Tang Liang Hong,Francis Seow Tan WahPiow are poor victims of "civilised" politics

  11. That's why it is called civil war

  12. Sorry but I too read this phrase you used with raised eyebrows, viz "We have civilised politically". Uh, what did they put in your drink last night, redbean?

That apart, can you give us egs of how we have "civilised politically", plse? One acceptance is hardly proof.

The 2 ex-PMs' acceptance of Chee's offer is totally unbelieveable. It is so un-PAP. Perhaps it is true LKY died, and we are looking at his reincarnation. Having seen what lies in wait for him, he is trying to lessen the punishment? Maybe he doesn't like playing golf in 200 degree heat. Perhaps his acceptance is a result of his neurological situation.

One of the rules of any offered deal is, If it looks too good to be true, it probably isn't.

This acceptance looks Far Too Good To Be True.

Wonder what they'll hit him with the moment they've taken his
$30k. I wonder if they'll ban his book now. Are all his taxes and fees paid? Any fines outstanding?

Cheee must avoid jaywalking. A Ferrari going thru the red light, and its over. $30k wasted.

I hope he remembers he can't protest At All in public. That he'll be very careful about what he says and writes about anything and everything.

  13. Each time he goes into the ring,
he will get 'bokok'. Maybe the gloves
are wrapped with knuckle dusters too.

A KO will happen within First Round and
he will be warded, not in a medical institution. A check up at IMH could be in
    order.

  14. MAchiavelli was years ahead of his time. Now we have access to the current state of neuroscience and machines like fMRI.

It is easy to fool and manipulate people -- especially those who do not understand math or science...and most people DON'T.

    Got snake-oil?

  15. $3,$30K or $3M are just figures. Bottom line is....Old man won, younger man lost. However, younger man will most likely out live old man and as such, old man won't be around to cash in on the win anyway.

So let young man go and what can a domesticated politician do considering his party ranked poorly in the last election?

I think the days of charismatic leadership is over or should be over.

  16. Just interpret to one's advantage or see only the good stuff: )

  17. Burying the hatchet could be a ruse. (why the hell not? it's politics!)

The knuckle dusters are still active ;-)

    Beware concealed weapons!

  18. Going gaga over the 'kind' gesture?
Do tune in for the Next Round.

  19. Which can be worst? Pay $30k not enough, still must explain. Or offer not accepted. Anyone dares to accept offer, will jump up from grave.

  21. Simply said, cunning and crafty politicians are cruel, corrupt, evil, heartless, ruthless & wicked scums on this planet.

No wonder people are hoping they leave this planet asap.

  22. Bury the hatchet
    and
    hide the knuckle
    dusters.

    Peace?
