Syria a dangerous precedent

The bloodshed in Syria and the loss of the lives would escalate to a scale surpassing those in Iraq and Libya. The story is the same. Regime change initiated and supported and armed by foreign powers.

Saddam Hussein and Muammar Gaddafi were dead. Now it is the turn of Bashar Al Assad. He is likely to be the next Arab/Middle Eastern leader to be killed by the west in the name of regime change, a people’s uprising. This is a dangerous trend set by the American and western powers, supporting minority dissidents in a country, armed and finance them, even bringing in mercenaries to fight on their side, to over throw a govt.

Every country will have some disgruntled people, people in the opposition, and dissidents. When agitated, promised of power and glory and instant wealth and fame, many would become adventurest and would risk lives and peace to fight and to kill. It is so easy to start an insurgency with enough finance and arms and a super power or many powers backing it.

Syria is a message to all regimes, all govts, in any country that are not seen to tow the line, not in the good books of America and western powers. They will incite an insurgency and turn it into a civil war to bring down established govts and regimes.

Many African, Asian and Southeast Asian countries are easy targets and can be easily manipulated to turn into a war zone. Many of their leaders are tagged as lesser than the expectation of what a leader should be in the western mould. Many are seen as dictatorial, authoritarian, abusive of human rights etc etc, all fitting the recipe for regime change when needed.

More and more countries will be turned upside down, burnt and citizens killed to serve the interest and agenda of America and western powers. Who is next?

  1. You should talk to Syrian refugees before ranting about "evil western powers".

I recently came to know a family of such refugees who are so glad to be in Australia, because this "western power" has empowered them with RIGHTS to individual freedom, security and freedom of movement. They also receive other benefits: the kids are in school, they have healthcare and a nice home with a garden.

These are just "average folk" -- no political connections and definitely not wealthy. They came as refugees, and thankfully were granted PR status so that they could live free in the society instead of being locked up in a holding camp.

If you speak with them, they will tell you that they (and many of their fellow oppressed citizens) would welcome a "western" invasion of their cuntry to overthrow the brutal regime.

Frankly I am against such an invasion -- not for any other reason than I, as a taxpayer, don't want to pay for it. Forget compassion -- I am not compassionate, nor do I intend to be.

The cuntry and its people gets the government they deserve. Therefore it is up to the Syrians to reclaim their cuntry and not to rely on "help" from "righteous" western nations (which have BIG tax revenue streams) to always "save them" from dicktators.

Those camel-fucking ragheads should solve their own problems. Our tax dollars are for us, not the rest of the fucking chaotic world.

Get fucked. Solve your own problems. Western society and culture rocks, but it should stop interfering with barbarians and their culture. Let the irrational bastards wipe themselves out.

To those who are able to escape to the west: Welcome! Enjoy our open borders and obey our laws.

  2. @Matilah:

    Four words for you then:

    Stop. Using. Their. Oil.

Every drop you use to maintain the advanced Ocker lifestyle helps to fuel their greed at the top and their population growth at the bottom. (Yes, Australia digs up a reasonable amount of the fossil fuels it uses, but oil is pretty fungible and commands a global price.) Cutting your energy use might just be the best contribution you can make to world peace.

How much difference would it make? Well, some people have estimated that Saudi Arabia's break even oil price to maintain their current social spending level is close to $100 per barrel. So, any less than that will bring their people out against the rulers.

Then those "barbarians" can either move to exporting solar power (plenty of desert over there), or go back to riding camels instead of private jets.

    Also, to Redbean's OP:
All imperial powers meddle in the affairs of other countries. It's part of the job. Just like with the PAP, you will be safe from meddling if you go along with the program.

For America, meddling is not new: it's just that they used to mess about mostly with South America before World War 2. Oh and the Philippines. But then the British ran out of money to hold their empire together, and turned it over to the Yanks.

So there was Iran, where the CIA and the British government overthrew the democratically elected prime minister and installed a dictatorial shah, who was in turn bottled out by Ayatollah Khomeini. Blowback's a bitch. Then there was Vietnam, which forced the US to abandon the gold standard to print money to pay for the guns and bombs, which led to today's obscene inflation of paper money.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. If the elephant is charging towards you and in the direction of a cliff, step politely out the way.

  3. Hi Graham, welcome to the blog.

All big powers would do like what you said to dominate the world and maintain their position as the leader of the pact.

In the case of the US, they are getting away with murders and with the unthinking praising them as the angels of God, spreading blessing and charities.

For many of the dictatorial Middle Eastern countries, the rulers are quite ruthless and abusive. This is the tragedy of mankind when the rulers have all the means not to be hated. In several cases they deserved to be taken down.

But as a principal in international relations and respect for states to live their own ways of lives, allowing foreign powers to do regime change is unacceptable. This issue is complicated by the big power rivalry. And as you said, many democratically elected govt could be destroyed by big powers for their selfish interest to be replaced with dictators.

A multipolar world with the big powers more balanced in military power is good for peace. When one power thinks it can whack anyone with impunity, that is the cause of aggression by the bully.

US, western powers, Israel, are clear examples of trigger happy powers that would used force to attack weaker countries in the name of their interest and security.

  4. @ Graham:

Once they sell it, it's not "their oil" anymore.

Anyway the US and UK oil corps have a right to that oil. Without US and UK money, infrastructure and innovation, those camel fuckers would still be stuck in the medieval ages.

By nationalizing oil production, those A-rabs essentially STOLE the PRIVATE PROPERTY of US / UK enterprises and their shareholders.

So bombing those camel fucking rag heads back to the stone age and reclaiming the oil is perfectly justified as far as I'm concerned.

Send those motherfuckers straight to the "paradise" they long for. Fuck them. I want my V 8 and my boat to run on cheap gas.

Oh yeah. I love my BIG carbon footprint ;-)

Murders?? Like China killing people in Tibet, torturing Korean nationals, bullying its neighbors in the South China Sea. Oh, yeah!! Did I mention Tianmenen Square in 1989??

Not to mention overlooking the mass murders by the Syrian regime. Are you kidding??

    >>For many of the dictatorial Middle Eastern countries, the rulers are quite ruthless and abusive. This is the tragedy of mankind when the rulers have all the means not to be hated. In several cases they deserved to be taken down.<<

True. But they are kept in power with help from the Chinese government!!!

Hers's the problem. Troubles within countries don't always stay cleanly within their borders. They spill over. Sometimes action has to be taken to prevent the spillover. Take Bosnia and Kosovo for example in the 1990s when NATO had to take actions against ethnic cleansing.

Like China bullying Vietnam and other countries in dispute over Southeast Asia and the South China Sea?.

  6. Would you like to tally up all the people China had killed in Tibet or wherever against the number of people the Americans have killed after the WW2 since you are so embarrassed to think about the 50m or 60m Red Indians murdered?

And also tally up how many countries have China bullied, Vietna, Philippines etc against how many countries the US have bullied?

That should be an objective start on the great deeds or misdeeds of the great Americans.

  11. The most frequent customers travelling to the
airport in Perth are Fly in fly out laborers, commonly understood as FIFO.

With numerous regular clients these laborers need to be on time each time or
they can shed a weeks salaries or additional.
That's why they depend on Airport Connexion to transfer them to Perth Airport each time.
