So frightening….

A medical report from a psychiatrist, Dr Calvin Fones Soon Leng from the Gleneagles Medical Centre, was submitted to the court by the Law Society to raise doubts about lawyer M Ravi’s ability to practice law. Some of the contents of the reports in the media state that Ravi is ‘currently unfit to practice law and his illness is likely to affect his professional capacity…is having a manic relapse of his bipolar disorder…this is likely to occur over the past two weeks.’

Ravi was advised by his kind and concerned friends to take a break from his heavy load in cases like the death sentence of Yong Vui Kong, Kenneth Jeyaretnam’s case on Singapore’s loan to the IMF and the case of cleaner Vellama versus the PM on the PM’s discretion to hold by elections. The report did not state whether his good friends advised him to get a medical MC or to see a psychiatrist. But he went to see Dr Fones leading to this report in court, submitted by the Law Society.

The more significant and frightening part of the report in the media is this. ‘He(Dr Fones) added that the lawyer “lacks any insight into his condition as is often the case for many patients who (suffer a) relapse”. If Mr Ravi remains uncooperative, the doctor said that the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) Act may need to be invoked. The Act provides for the admission, detention, care and treatment of mentally disordered persons in designated psychiatric institutions.’

Don’t pray pray with the power of the doctors. When they have diagnosed someone as mad or potentially mad, this is what they can do to the person. And it looks like Ravi is diagnosed as mad or going mad in layman terminology.

Would Ravi be seen running wild brandishing a sword that makes him dangerous to society or to the judges in court? Or would Ravi ended up throwing a shoe at some VVIP. I am wondering what had Ravi done to put him in this dangerous person list?

What can happen now would be for Ravi to be struck off the practicing lawyer’s list, or may be put into a mental institution. End of the story.

    1. Won't be surprise. Would have prepared himself well before his mission to save his master. He is just a pawn afterall. Now lawsoc will save itself by abandoning him. Perhaps that was part of the plan. Next would be the doctor's turn.

  5. Looks like Dr Fones was under tremendous pressure in writing the letter on Ravi. He got his dates wrong by two months, stating 14 May when it was supposed to be 14 Jul, and leaving many big gaps and inconsistencies in his diagnosis. Maybe he is also suffering from bipolar disorder.

  6. The truth is more bizarre than fiction. Before very very careful should anyone ever think of visiting a pyschiatrist. It is so dangerous if what a 10 min visit by Ravi can ended up like this.

The psychiatrist profession would need to do some damage control.

  8. Singapore is reaching a danger zone where the power that be is desperate and is intending on doing desperate things or carrying out illegal unjustifiable desperate actions to stay in power . Poor Mr Ravi, may be he should come out openly with his friends to speak to the people to show that he is a very normal person and any negative report on him is nothing but a desperate act. Anyway, the people are watching.

  9. First the revolt of the sinkie millionaire. Now, revolt of the judiciary.

This judge Pillai is like a beam of shining light in darkness. Just do everyone a favour. Don't get near a psychiatrist.

  10. If Ravi went to see the good doctor of his own will, how did the confidential medical report get to the Law Society?

  11. This Dr Calvin Fong is such a disgrace to the medical profession. What he is doing is an utter contempt of court barging into the court room with an eleventh hour stunt like this. Whose instructions did he act under?
Notice the timing of this saga. The Doctor would have breached the ethics of revealing patient's records had it not been directed to Law Society. And why did LS decide to leak this to the press ? Bipolar is a common illness and a condition that can be managed. They are painting a much more severe case than it necessarily warrant to discrete the lawyer. This is such a desperate and despicable acts. Thank god for Judge Pillai. There seems to be some hope in our judicial system.

After seeing this event and other brewing related issues in the web...... I have one conclusion.

one year ago, there is a discussion about making a PAP propaganda film called 1965 . Guess this is now suspended indefinitely now that whole truth of what PAP is, now been revealed. Needless to say, that those actors and actresses find that their career at risk trying to take part in such PAP film. They will find more success acting in film about opp party instead than PAP film. Just look at the audience in Hougang rally compare to the comedian turnout at PAP rally.

  20. The rot has indeed spread. In the news recently we have scandals involving high ranking civil servants, questionable procurement and now stange behaviour of doctor and lawsoc. They just keep on piling up.

  21. How come all those cases only come up rececntly? Don't tell me a year ago everything was so pure and white, no mis-steps, greed, corruption.

Holy cow, they are really recalling, reflecting and repenting with blind fury. At this rate, many high ranking cronies may be shitting in their pants, waiting for their day in court.

  22. No wonder there is rumour that 2012 is end of the world according to mayan. it is more like mayan predicting the end of PAP in 2012 with all the skeletons coming out of the closet.

  23. we really have to find out how much rot we have.

I think we have lost at least $50 billion in reserves and this is a number the govt doesnt want us DAFT citizens to find out.

  28. Hi;

plse do not think that I am not mad, dare I say that almost all Sinkies are mad. They are so mad that almost all bloggers and netizens have nothing good to say about their rulers.

    And

the Rulers are mad spending with expensive furniture, bicycle and what else??? And these free spending is making all the Sinkies jumping mad.

Anyway, read in a medical journal that even psychiatrist and psychologist are not all mentally and emotionally balanced. There were cases of psychiatrist and psychologist that went mad too.

I just like to say that many Sinkies are just mad wanting to have wealth that they never have time and life to use.

    Darling

  31. Hi Irene, welcome to the blog.

You are right. Until the whole truth is out, no one is wiser about what actually happened especially when politics is involved.

I remembered posting something about Uncle Yap coming out to defend Calvin Fones, that Fones was a friend of Ravi. What was strange was his comment that he would invoke the Medical Act to put Ravi in IMH.

Everyone should wait till the truth comes out. Until then, what is the real story?
