Hougang will test the intelligence of opposition parties

I read that Goh Meng Seng is considering sending Nicole Seah to contest Hougang to take revenge on WP for muscling into the Kallang Moulmein GRC in the last election. The thinking is rational and logical and will be good, as they say competition will end up with the consumers getting the best deal. And with the popularity of Nicole, she stands a good chance of winning some votes.

NSP is perhaps the second strongest opposition party after WP. They should challenge WP for the position of being the top opposition party and pave its way to win a GRC in the next GE. A good showing in Hougang will seal that fate. I must say that opposition politics is very healthy and their thinking to out fox each other is very fertile and needs to be encouraged. They are quite predictable in a way.

My assessment is that the opposition should gain around 60-65% of the Hougang votes. And Nicole should easily command 30% and the WP another 30%. These will be reasonably good results for the NSP and it can tell the WP not to take it for granted in the next GE.

As for the PAP, it can sleep walk into Hougang with its hard core 35-40% supporters without having to do anything. No need any big name minister to blow the trumpet. Just let the opposition fight it out and do the job for them. PAP’s strategy can be very simple. Blow the ego of the opposition parties and let them stand up to prove who is the better loser.

I like what I am hearing. Go opposition parties. Go and prove that you are the better of the second best. And I have better reasons to say that. Give the voters more choices. And Nicole is a star and sure got chance to win a lot of votes. And there are many excellent independent candidates like Jee Say to fall back on. Hougang will be an interesting circus in the making.

I think Hsien Loong must be smiling quietly to himself. He may be encouraged to hold a by election quickly given the bravado of the opposition camp.

  1. RB,
This is expected. I ever said on my blog that it will be free for all since it's a BE and not a GE. Can WP claim exclusive right to HG? Can it deprive others of MPship? Don't forget it's the WP that caused this BE. So is it fair to exclude others? Like I said on my blog it's going to be the mother of all elections. Let them fight it out. A straight fight is boring compared to a multiple fight. Don't you agree? At the end of the day, PAP just pick up the pieces like I said before! It's a forgone conclusion then. When will they ever learn? Never!

  2. Haven't we learnt anything from the Presidential Elections?

If the "Alternative Candidates" had stayed united, maybe we would also have a more "inclusive" Presidency.

  3. The opposition will bring shame upon themselves when they start to scratch at each other. It only shows how hollow they are and deserve to be in the wilderness, to appear in every election to think being the best loser is good enough.

  5. The voters should watch and see how the asses introduce themselves into the ring. If, after so many years, they still try to prove who is better in doing each other in, then they deserve to be done in.

  6. The most sensible of all the opposition MPs in waiting is Nicole. She has said that she would not contest in Hougang. But would some fools force her to stand to ruin everyone's chance?

  7. Not everyone supports NSeah. The Brotherhud have been systematically undermining her credibility, as they believe she is a dumbo. Hougang has the highest number of gamers in Singapore. She doesn't stand a chance.

  8. As an MP Nicole beats many MPs hands down. She is young and has a future in politics and should not tarnish her reputation by being seen as a mindless opportunist who would shit anywhere as long as there is a hole.

She should carefully contemplate her moves as a serious contender MP to be. Hougang has been carefully and tediously nurtured as a WP's stronghold and charging in blindly is going to cost her a lot of bad publicity.

  9. Nicole Seah is an intellgient girl.
She will win big on a WP ticket.
This is no time for one opposition party to take revenge on another opposition party.Opposition parties in Singapore have only one rival and that is the PAP

  10. this by election is certainly throwing up all kinds of wonderful facts about this country and its political parties and pple.

we know now that the PAP is running scared. it is determined to teach WP a lesson by making their pple work like the dickens by holding off on the by election. that the party is vengeful has been quite clear for years.

now we know that goh meng seng is just as small minded and petty as the PAP. in fact he may actually be trumping PAP at its game! the PAP can learn from him. how did they miss not recruiting him? they are all of the same nasty mind. what a pity he didn't get in in the last GE. all one kind eh.

if goh stands in my constituency, i shall certainly vote PAP, even if they put a worm there. even though he appears to be of a higher calibre of low life.

now we'll see if nicole seah falls into that rotten category and if tan jee say is the squishy egotist pple have been describing him as.

nothing like an election to bring out the true colours of the candidates/sporeans. way to go. oops sorry, way to goh...

  11. Personally, me believes Nicole Seah will be sensible enuff and not participate in the Hougang By-election. However, if she gets invited to stand as a Workers Party Candidate, then she should.

    1. If NC stands in HG under NSP or jumps ship to WP, people will attack her. It's best that she stays away then people will respect. Goh MS is immature when he talks abt revenge! Really langgar !

  12. It is perfectly upright for Nicole Seah to disassociate herself with NSP and revengeful Goh Meng Seng, caring more for his own ego than the citizens'aspirations.
Ms Seah has a choice. She can stay in a political party going nowhere or join WP and consolidate its strength.I respect her choice.

  13. As it stands, it is oni good that Nicole Seah gets herself into Workers Party. There are good calibre people in WP who can be good mentors to her.

On her own N Seah has shown maturity, sensibility and intellect way beyond her young age. WP ideally must and be able to attract the right calibre to build it's strength further.

Personally, me does wish to see N Seah speaking in Parliament as soon as possible.
