This episode does not seem to want to fade away. And the developments make the issue more confusing with some red faces in some quarters. Luckily SMRT was safe as there were records to prove what the PR executive said.
Seng Han Thong had apologized and nobody is demanding an explanation, which means apologies accepted but no need to explain further. This should have been the closure. Then Shanmugam came out to explain why Seng Han Thong is not a racist. This was followed by Hri Kumar saying more or less the same and that some blog sites have misquoted him or did not report the case fairly.
What then is the position of Halimah Yacob who was obviously not happy with the statement in the beginning? So, after all the explanations, hopefully she is now happy that it was all a wild goose chase and there was nothing to it. And there is a happy closure. All is a big misunderstanding due to poor command of English and misquoting.
Let’s move on.
Although no public figure in his right mind will ever intentionally make an offensive or insensitive statement, everyone makes mistakes and has brain farts.
ReplyDeleteFeelings which are hurt unintentionally require no mandatory apology, although it is a polite gesture to offer one after a verbal gaff.
When most people are reasonable and quite willing to simply brush aside those embarrassing brain farts we all have.. lo and behold... a motherfucking LAWYER steps in to ensure the matter remains UNRESOLVED so the divisiveness, hostility and fighting can not only continue but escalate.
Kill all the lawyers.
I know you are jesting and farting when you say, 'Kill all the lawyers.'
ReplyDeleteI hope no silly people will take your words literary and come after you for saying that.
What, if the remarks have been make by another person other than Seng Han Tong, will he be hunted down like a criminal? Anyway one has to save the flock of the same feather. Common sense, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteSG
While in the process of saving one, they have to be careful not to create more anger and alienate more from the flock.

I think he's partially quoting
Shakespeare's King Henry VI.
And I'll say it : kill the lawyers. Am I literal or metaphorical or quoting The Bard..? ah... I'll let the readers make up their own mind. :-P
ReplyDeleteA wayang is a wayang, is forever nothing but a wayang, however they may try to fool spectators with their wayang.
ReplyDelete@ SG,
ReplyDeleteDon't worry about them hunting down others who follow in the foot steps of SHT, since they've created precedence that this is tolerable. If there dare to hunt down anyone in future for similar events, they're slapping themselves in their faces.
The whole SHT debate is a big big sidetrack turned into a breakdown drama.Give the scapegoat with out -of-quote a serious break and turn to the real issue. Have the trains gone out of track too? How had the breakdown really happened? People who fainted or not fainted from the experience need the assurance and security back because it is the welfare and concern of our general public young and old. Does anybody gives a SHT-enough to seriously cry out for professional engineers to look into the MRT operation and systems?! The ex-shopping queen can rest from train technical issues and look at how ponding can affect shoppers in Orchrd Road.
ReplyDeleteLet's not easily turn into nincompoops with sidetracks and breakdowns cos our country needs real brave talented Singaporeans with engineering backgrounds to ensure safe and smooth journey for all. With 2.5 and now 2 years of national service for true Singapore-born men all these years; mothers, wives and daughters of such national loyalty deserve well-designed, well-maintained and well-rectified national facilities!!!
ReplyDeleteThere's definately a great deal to find out about this issue. I love all of the points you'νe made.
