Ominous signs

The MRT trains have been running fairly smoothly for more than 20 years. Recently so many incidents and faults occurred in a span of a few weeks. And despite doing a complete check, faults are popping up frequently like the popping of champagne bottles. The regular disruption is now becoming the new normal and commuters better live with it, just like ponding in Orchard Road.

Should the whole train system be removed as it seems that it has reached the end of its usable life? Or it is just an ominous sign of bigger things to come, when seemingly things in good order just keep breaking down?

  1. This is not the fault of smrt. It is the commuters' fault for forcing smrt to add more trains to the system. CEO Saw had already foreseen this coming and yet she is now being blamed. It is so unfair to her.

  2. At the risk of being labelled a "scaremonger" by the motherfucking government, I'm announcing that I'll be avoiding underground travel in Orchard area until the dry season. Take bus, taxi or walk - above ground. Here's the reason:

    1. Ponding causes the ground below to saturate with water. I am assuming drainage is poor because of flooding in the first place.

    2. One more "oops! Failure" - underground flooding, ie water in the MRT - very bad sign.

    3. How do you know the underground structures are safe given the constant soaking by floods and rain?

    Fuck that shit

  3. I like the picture of the MRT train tracks being held together by plastic ties.

Just like Singapore being held together by a platoon of old Singapore yodas.

Anybody here remember the old British comedy called "Dad's Army"?

  6. Sabotage? They are so confident that everything is very secure in red dot.

Until something happens and then they will say they were not prepared for it.

The US was not prepared for 911.

The Japanese were not prepared for the tsunami and nuclear mishap.

Red dot was not prepared when the floods hit.

Before this happened, all were very 'beng' and arrogant.

So, better not place too much hope on those empty boasts.

  7. Are Singaporeans prepared for an incompetent Party Against People government?

Prepare ahead by voting for the Opposition!

  8. Yes, better live with it. From you cannot expect no floods, to you cannot expect no train breakdowns, to you cannot expect uncongested roads, to you cannot expect cheap housing. The list goes on.

Even if we slip down the road to third world, better live with it.

  9. Maybe they are trying to show you what an incompetent govt is like. Now you are getting a taste of it, when they fold their arms and let things happen.
