About time to switch from cars to taxis

The charges for taxis will be going up next week. ComfortDelgro, the biggest taxi operator, has just announced the price hike, for good reasons. Cost of diesel, cars etc have been going up. Also, taxi operators need a pay rise too with the high cost of living. And demand is getting stronger with bigger population and more tourists coming in. I agree that these are all good reasons for a price hike.

And comfort is asking the other taxi operators to follow their footstep, to raise their fares. This is nothing to do with anti competition or collusion to fix prices. The other operators have a right to do otherwise.

With the higher fares being charge, it is expected that some of those who cannot afford the hike will have to take buses or trains. I will wait for another few more hikes to make it a bit pricier so that only dignified people can afford to take taxis. Then I will give up my car and switch to taxis when taking taxi becomes a dignified affair.

  1. Well it's ludicrous to expect the cabs to run at a loss. Fuel is likely to go even HIGHER as global production stagnates or decreases, and demand increases.

If you are on fixed income, rising costs of food, energy and in general are going to fuck your welfare arsehole like a homo high on methamphetamine.

    Hope you enjoy it :)

  2. I hope more dignified people will join me to take taxis instead of driving. Hey, you can enjoy being driven around by a foreign university graduate of Singaporean origin.

Now that kind of feeling must be good and worth every cent of it.

  3. That's an unflattering picture of yourself. I am sure you can come up with a more dignified expression being an avid photographer?

  4. Okay will change it. It's the squeezing of an image to thumbnail size. The normal pic isn't that bad when viewed in full size.

Photographers often got their photos badly taken by non photographers : )

  7. Haha, I have to take this myself. That is how pathetic photographers are. Always on the other side of the camera : )

High price means good quality. Value for money.

  8. In order to save some money ,I do have the intention to have one taken now by a professional, standby for the lorry head on my grand day, instead of last minute where they may overcharge without me around to negotiate.
Just wonder how much it will cost me now without the frame.
    I want an impressive one.
Dun Pantang, pls.I mean its for me.

  9. If higher fares mean taxi drivers earn more, I can live with that.

But what will happen is that the taxi company will in turn raise the rental fees to squeeze more money from the taxi drivers.

Vote change and send a message to your ever lovable PAP politician.

PAP will still form the government.
There are no freak election results in Singapore.

The Party Against People needs to be spurred to be more pro-people in their policies.

  10. There is a Chinese saying which translated means (roughly): The monk spilled the porridge and the dog benefits.

This is exactly what is going to happen with the taxi fare increase. The taxi drivers are going to earn more, but do you think the taxi rentals will remain the same. Fat hope!

  11. All all is said and done, there is bound to be an interview on TV about this issue, with some saying that the increase is still affordable and taxis are so convenient, they will continue to take taxis.

    The plot never changes.

  12. With COEs hitting the $100k mark, owning private cars is going to be a dream that will never happen. Those who have physical handicaps and needed to move around by cars will have no choice but to take taxis.

Relatively taxis will be much more cheaper. So the people will quickly adjust to the new normal. And someone will come out and sing the song, 'The quality of life will not be affected.' : )

  14. This also pushes up consumer price index (CPI) and inflation. Who will suffer?

CASE is then wayanying to ask for justification. Why is the anti-competition board remaining silent? Just recently, it acted on modeling agencies. It seems 2 sets of rules again applied to different parties.

It all boils down to lack of accountable and transparent government. Daft Sinkies do not believe this should not complain.

  15. Well, at least they kept one and only one promise of not raising the GST after election. But to recover from this, have to raise taxes from other sources. Can't be helped really, LOL ;-)

  16. Understand that one reason cited was that taxi drivers have to cope with higher cost of living. If that is the case; who in Sin is not affected???
