The system is so unjust and unkind

The displeasure of Tin Pei Ling continues. Many netizens and twitters are still clamouring for her to resign for posting in her facebook during the Cooling Off Day. Some were outright in their criticism that she was unsuitable to be a MP. The poor girl is getting an undue amount of bad coverage which is very unfair and cruel to her. She is at most an eager beaver who believes that she could be an MP. But who put her there, or who gave her the idea in the first place? There was a panel of wise men and women who thought she was good enough, the best they could find. Obviously there was a mismatch of potential in the assessment against the people’s perception after her appearance in the political scene. It may be not right to blame just a system. In fact there were two systems that are at fault. One is the highly promoted system of Tea Party that is deemed to be able to identify the best talents for political leadership. The second flawed system is the GRC. In the first, any failure is the failure of the interviewers to dig deep enough to find out the potential of the candidate. Or it could mean that what is considered to be good to the interviewers, their criteria of goodness, is questionable. The fact is that the rulers and the people don’t see things from the same perspective. Maybe, just maybe, they were looking for a trainee MP, to be trained on the job. I think this makes sense. Or maybe they are thinking that with GRC, you can hang a PAP tag on anything and will still be elected. The fact that Tin got elected is enough to prove that it is true. Only thing they did not bargain for is the wrath of the people, which is unfairly directed at Tin. She is just a victim of circumstances, of the system, of too much good thing. The thing now is that it is already a cooked thing. No point tingling anymore. Let’s thing be. Did someone say wishful thinking?

Would you trust a trainee driver with L-plate to drive your car safely?

The GRC system put her in Parliament and put George Yeo. The double-edged-ness of the GRC sword is now fully appreciated.

  2. The GRC system could have, over the years, put drivers without driving licenses into driving the bus we are in. Any mistake is covered up by the group in that GRC and the PAP never gets to be accountable for such errors.

But, hoping for them to get rid of the GRC system is wishful thinking.

More tinkering to refine its usefulness to the PAP is perhaps more likely.

  3. Maybe God is working in its own mysterious way. With George out and Tin in, everyone can now see the folly of this system.

    Who can put it better?

  4. To be fair, I really think that Tingy and the Ah Beng general are not really such publicly perceived inepts as made out by the new media.

Blame it on the party's sloppiness in not giving these two a makeover that will have public appeal plus I don't think there were any lessons on how to win friends and influence people as well as speaking with aplomb and professionalism in front of the cameras.

Nope, the above are not the inherent attributes of a person but assiduously cultivated public images learnt through much training and coaching.

Who knows, in a few years with the right coaching and makeover, Tingy will be speaking like Hilary Clinton and the Ah Beng general like Mr. Obama.

    LOL.

  5. I do not feel comfortable with our army generals.

They blame our enemies for launching incursions instead of figuring out how to defend and counter.

They tell our enemies not to enter our country and put our people in a dilemma choosing between our army and the enemies' troops.

I will tell our generals, just surrender lah!

They are inepts, period. It is really the candid moments that truly reflect the person that we are. TPL stomping her feet like a 4-year old tells alot about her character. Her parroting of her masters' scripted answers on why the govt is not to be blamed for rising cost is telling.

The ah beng general is truly scary. Not just a BG as many have mistaken - but a MG. I would have not bat an eye-lid if the "kee chiu" is done by a corporal or even a sergeant. Even then, it will only be not out of place 3 decades ago when there are literally hokkien platoons. And the "kee chiu" was not done just once or twice, but umpteen times.

If there is any party that invested heavily in screening, recruiting and grooming, it is the PAP. And this is the result. In any case, you can take the villager out of the kampong, but you cannot take the kampong out of the villager.

You can speak like My Fair Lady, but you are still an Ah Lian at heart. You can speak in perfect Queen's English, but if your message has no substance, what is the use? Remember TPL's regret - that she did not bring her mother to Universal Studio. Now, try saying that in any language, in the most polished accent and perfect enunciation - it is still bimbospeak.

That Ah Beng general will still be fighting the last war.

  7. Hi The, welcome to the blog. Nice observations. The MG is a talent. As for his speeches, he needs to fine tune it to suit the audience. Talking like Hokien peng to the literati is amusing if done carefully and in small doses. Going over board can be quite painful to the ears.

They still have not gone after the one who destroyed Tin from the word go. Poor girl's life is going to be quite miserable.

  8. The fault of the political system is that the government elected has no accountability and transparency to its people. Singapore is NOT a first world country. It is just a better third world country despite the freak GDP.

  9. Dear all,
    Respectfully and humbly,

    GRC or no GRC.
    SMC or no SMC
Tea party or no tea party.

    This is a democracy.

Once every 5 years, your vote carries the same weight as any one of Singapore's VIPs.

We are where we are today because we voted the way we voted for the last 45 years.

We got the government we deserve.

And 60% of Singaporeans support and approve of the GRC, tea party and Tin Pei Ling.

The people have spoken and voted.

If you don't like it, then you should actively do something about it.

  10. Anyone who believes in military ruler will have to 'kowtow'(submit) under his gun muzzles.

Military rulers are no different from militant dictators. They will order their soldiers to point their weapons at their own kins and people(citizenry) to quell dissension.
