TOC to be gazetted as a political association

Just read this from the TOC site. They have received an email saying that the PM will be gazetting it as a political association. By this it means that it cannot receive financial and other support from foreigners. My crystal ball says that in the next election TOC may go all out to be a political party and contest the election with its own slate of candidates. And my feeling is that their candidates could be as worthy as any candidates to be field by the rest of the parties. This is an interesting development in the politics of Singapore. Go for it TOC.

  1. I will vote against them because I perceive them to be slanted towards something I have no fondness for.

Gimme TR anytime. The quality of commentators and contributors may be just a notch lower then this TOC but hey, everyone, including the Ah Beng is entitled to have their say!

    Hehe. :o)

  2. Unlike Wally, and probably most people on this site, TOC and TR...I don't vote of if I do I write rude words on the ballot -- i.e. I spoil my vote in "ritualistic profanity".

However, declare as they might, at least Jo and Jane Blo get to have their say on the net. Even if S'pore blogs disappeared, the internet is still there which means anyone who knows how to use a browser has as voice.

What surprised me is that LHL made this decision. I thought he was one of the "least political" people around. I guess either I was wrong, or he's changed.

  3. One down but there are still many around.
Frankly, I see little differences between PAP and TOC.

  4. Politics is fun, but it become more entertaining when it leads to violence.

S'pore politics is not so happening because except for a few riots in the past, it has been too peaceful.

IMO, there should be more blood on the streets. Then at least you make "history" and have something "newsworthy".

  8. anon, yu have to distinguish between "metaphor" and "reality". Language, especially English is full of nuance.

Sarah Palin might be nuts, but she is no "killer" or homicidal maniac. She doesn't need to. As far as "conspiracy theorists" go, the net is full of them. Anyone with an opinion can start a blog or website.

There are lots of Americans angry at their govt. Sometimes people just "snap", which I think is what happened to Jared Lee -- the shooter who managed an impressive number of hits with a 9mm Glock. He apparently shot 19 people.

Glock magazines hold 10, 15 and 17 rounds (not counting the Glock 18). So if this was true, as "tragic" as this is to some, it is impressive shooting.

  9. P.S. As much as I like Hardings, he is trying to sell his "famous" book. ;-)
