Buying up Singapore

The Malaysians are getting more aggressive in their forays into foreign business. In economic terms, being aggressive is ok. The Malaysians have a big picture and a new ball game to play in Singapore. With everything on the table for sale, the Malaysians are making hay while the sun shines. First they bought over GK Goh Stockbrokers, now they are buying Kim Eng Securities. In Singapore, the stockbroking business is seen as a sunset industry, dying. So Singapore stockbrokers have been advised to sell off this dying business. In Malaysia they must have been advised otherwise. They must still believe that it is a golden goose that will lay more eggs into the future. Who is right and who is wrong only time will tell. In the Malaysian big plan I think they will not stop at just buying two broking houses. Next could be one of the big banks. DBS should be very attractive when the price is right. How about SIA? This will be the apple of their eyes to replace MAS. And if they can buy over PSA, there is no need to worry about Gelang Patah. They can even promote PSA to the fullest and export all their goods through Singapore. And they would probably need a 3rd and 4th links. There are many more worthy assets to buy over. Keep the momentum going. This is simply brilliant. While Singapore is strategizing on how to integrate into Malaysia, Malaysia has its own idea on how to integrate Singapore into Malaysia.

  1. Buying over comparatively, midlin' midget stock broking houses is nothing to trumpet about.

The Chinese don't buy such little morsels. They buy a whole fucking country without anyone noticing about it. They have in actuality bought the US and Australia and most certainly many resource rich banana republics in sub sahara Africa.

People who buy Singapore is not buying into any tangible asset actually. They bought paraphernalia to blow bubbles and in the process become part of the bubble themselves.

Resources. That's the key word. Not corporate maneuvers and takeovers.

If I were younger, the path to riches is no longer your Hokkien ah pek slogging away at his shop in his dirty shorts. It is getting a start up, build up a modicum of business and get a corporate giant to take over and incorporate it into their overall conglomerate plans. Examples are Google taking over many internet balloons.

Making money is more of brains than brawn.

    Hehe.

  2. You are still quite behind time lah Wally. The latest innovation in finance taught in the best American universities is to print money and buy assets. Banks that cannot print money can print toxic notes and exchange for good money.

So must easier and no need to crack the brains or wait long long. Instant gratification!

  3. Mr. Bean, my method is the one approved by all the deities I worship for prosperity and good fortune.

Printing money and offloading toxic notes onto others is a "No, No" as far as my "principles" are concerned.

As I am comfortably well taken care of by my deities, I am inclined to follow their "teachings" and not indulge in anything wayward.

    Hehe.

  4. Since the idea of "states" is completely bullshit -- a myth manifested into objective reality -- I support private ownership of any kind. It doesn't matter who owns what (because there are no such things as "borders"), as long as it is not a government or a state's "sovereign wealth" (aka stolen property) fund.

Whatever the buyer thinks the assets are or if he intends to make or lose his own money is not a concern I personally bother with.

In Australia I have seen foreigners make billions and I have witnessed Japs loosing their underwear in Gold Coast property collapse.

Private ownership by "foreigners" or any form or diverse private ownership is desirable -- this reduces the influence of the state. When the state makes legislation it has to take into account the "interests" of foreign private owners, or suffer their indignation, and possible flight of foreign investments.

Singapore has thrived because it is friendly to foreign capital and labour -- a "model" that many locals (who don't understand jack shit or who are just to darn lazy to compete) find objectionable.

However the same complaining Singaporeans would be much poorer if their state closed the borders and imposed ball-crushing legislation in the labour market.

Hehe, tell this esoteric idea to the unemployed PMETs, the tin can and the cardboard collectors just out to make two meals a day and the countless born here, bred here, catch longkang fish here unemployed Sinkapooreans.

  6. It is very tragic for those folks, I am sure.

But I am no "ivory tower white horse". I have experienced intolerable hopelessness and severe financial challenges (Aust recession early 1990s) -- it really sucks, but the individual has the most "skin in the game".

You get nowhere by blaming someone else for your "bad luck". Sooner or later it is the individual who has to ACT to better his circumstance.

Most of those people out of work now subscribed and believed the Big Fat Lies told to them by the PAP.

Or perhaps the PAP merely voiced what these folks wanted to hear anyway. I don't have the answer: I'm guessing.

My position is your own self-interest is your own business. No govt can or should be looking after that.

  7. Hope to wake up one morning to find that Singapore has changed owners!

  8. Matilah, your perception of govt is right generally but wrong here. When you have an exceptionally able govt, you can let the govt plan your life and sleep in peace, happily.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Oh, don't wish for a change in govt. That will be a disaster. Property prices will collapse immediately and everything will go.

  10. The new "owners" won't be holding it for long though.

We might once again be sold.

This time to the People's Republic of China and I'll drink to that.

Nothing like a big brother to cast a protective shadow over the red dot. Our erstwhile protector's aircraft carriers have already been destroyed by the Dong Feng 21D missile.

    Hehe :o)

  11. Chasing the rainbow is easier than having "an exceptionally able government".

In general, I agree that the individual has got to take care of their own interests and thus face difficulties squarely and confidently in the face.

But, not all in the population is capable nor have the wherewithal to face the onslaught when it comes.

They need help and it should be given without a moment's delay.

    Hehe. :o)

  12. You don't hehe like dat lah. You never read today's comment by some wise Americans? Chinese have never deployed their troops in wars. So don't know if they know how. Chinese weapons either not ready or not tested, maybe missile cannot fly.

American not worry about China lah: )

    ReplyDelete
  13. Next to printing money and toxi scams, these Americans' greatest talent or shortcoming depending on how you look at it is self "DENIAL" and self "DELUSION"

They will only realise their utter folly when this Dong Feng sausage is about to hit the USS George Washington messing around in the Hero's backyard and all they'll see would be a blinding sunburst flash before oblivion.

    Hehehehe :o)

  14. "American not worry about China lah: )", unquote.

    You're right here.

The Americans have to be worry about the Americans. You can quote me.

  15. If you are going to have a state (a myth) and a government (another myth) then you have to accept that self delusion is going to be a reality -- only varying in degree from individual to individual.

Fuck it, delude yourself, enjoy yourself.

I constantly delude myself that women a few years half my age desire me and will drop their panties if they set eyes on my balding head or slowly expanding mid-section, which they find incredibly and irresistibly sexy.

And this delusion makes me fee FANTASTIC! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  16. Yeah, the Americans have to be more worried about themselves internally.

They have been talking about a recovery. How can that be possible without mass job creation, I wonder. With 9.8% unemployment officially and closer to 17-20% unoffically, that does not sound like an economic recovery.

Just because of a month of positive job statistics and they are already talking about the end of the unemployment problems.

Most probably those are public sector jobs, created as a result of Helicopter Ben's QEs. If what has alredy been thrown from his helicopter does not help, more QEs will come into the picture to bring to life the economy still in intensive care.

Private sector jobs are still scarce and will not come back to American. They are gone for good, to China, India and cheaper destinations in Asia and Latin America.

    America is slowly being sold.

    I am more delusional.

My women is only a third of my age and some young enough to call me Grandpa but still of statutory age!

    Ah delusion!
    Scrumptiously delicious dreamworld of illusion.

    HoHoHoHoHo :o))

  18. Wally,

Gimme a few years mate -- I'll catch up with the math ;-)

If I said "one third" my age -- that would have been borderline legal. Too close -- I'm trying to avoid jail here. Don't fancy being rammed in the shitter by some hairy big brute.

    regards

    Delusional and loving it

  19. The greatest delusions the meimeis have is that every balding and bulging Singaporeans are loaded.
The pimps are usually younger and more professional than the oldy customers and the meimeis have to take from the old to give to the young ones.
    Lol.......

    ReplyDelete
  20. Yes, that is right.

The horny and energetic oldies do all you young fellas a huge favour and "stretch out" those nubile meimeis, for your easier accessibility. Let's face it: young lions -- who don't know shit about life yet -- get to sleep on a wet deck, because they are not choosy. (that comes much later -- when you can afford it)

Yes, we were all once YDFC, and hopefully frisky young lions live long enough to become dirty old men -- that is one of life's challenges very few talk about.

Have the heart of a warrior: NEVER quit on lusting after a woman's touch -- her, smell, her taste -- even if you're fucking blind and/ or deaf. Your days are always numbered -- but as long as you are still breathing, you have to try...and make those babes beg for you to give it to them -- good! :-)

"Aiyoh, tolong uncle! Paku besar Uncle...Adoi! Bertenaga kuat sangat! Lebeh cepat uncle...keras lagi...wah, paling istimewa! [translate into English]

Anyway age doesn't matter so much anymore ever since Pfizer and other manufacturers invented their "ubat" which has leveled the playing field.

Old cocks, thanks to science, can be in the game until the reaper visits -- tap dat ass until you drop!

  21. We old cocks give as good as it gets.

Cao Cao, a military genius and a brilliant ruler, although more of a tyrant, said:

    欲望成年轻

meaning lust and desire makes a man young.

    I live by that credo.

  22. Matilah is always a pessimist realist. But he forgot that we got talent. Look, Mah Bow Tan is singlehandedly bringing the runaway property prices to a halt. This is a feat only a superman can do. And he did it.

You don't believe me? Just read the news and you will have the answers.

Many things can be done in paradise, given the power and will to do it. Paradise is just too small and any problem cannot be bigger than a red dot.

    No big deal really.

  23. Confirmation bias mate. Add to that media spin (bullshit).

I hope people believe the media. I ca't wait for the fun to ensue :)
