'It is criminal if any Singaporean is not allowed to buy HDB flats under any flimsy excuses while PRs and new citizens are allowed to do so.' - Redbean
"Moving forward, we are going to approach some of them to take up Singapore citizenship & vote PAP, if they don't then their PR will not be renewed. That's a better way.
It is not official "policy" but PR's after a certain time (~ 2years) are "offered" citizenship.
As far as I know no one is kicked out for refusing.
An Aussie friend of mine sings praises about S'pore. This person used to be a free-wheeling freedom-loving individual. Since moving to S'pore in 2002, and becoming very successful, the individual is a die-die PAP supporter - even willing to give the PAP a "pass" on their suppression of free speech, censorship, mangling of the constitution, because my (still) friend believes that the PAP is the "best thing" for S'pore.
I will bet you, dear reader, the vast majority of immigrants to S'pore are BIG FANS of the PAP, and the PAP can be guaranteed unswerving support from these new doe-eyed "fans".
So here's the scenario the way I see it:
1. Locals -- pissed off with the PAP, feeling the PAP has "let them down".
2. PR's -- absolutely elated that they've been afforded the opportunities to further their lives in a well-organised country, with terrific infrastructure, superb communications and ease of living.
You locals had better buck up and get with the program. You're making yourselves unhappy by behaving like spoilt children, and looking like unfriendly assholes by being hostile to the newcomers.
Hey, in case you forget: these people are working hard and smart which benefits the WHOLE country and its people.
Since nothing is being done to right this wrong, the phrase "Crime does pay" comes to mind.
ReplyDeleteHow about this:
ReplyDeleteNew citizens will be given two votes each. Native Singaporeans should be allowed only one vote each because they are third class citizens.
How is it "criminal"?

Dear Fellow Countrymen:
ReplyDeletethe only solution is to vote for no one in the Coming Election.
