Singaporeans queuing up to be maids

After yesterday's report of a maid inheriting $6m from her employer. I am also thinking of becoming a mate, oops, I mean a maid, and hopefully inheriting a couple of millions as well. Being a maid can be quite rewarding at times. My friend's mother gave the maid her diamond ring after a few month's of care giving. The maid was so attentive to her needs, helping to wash and bath her as well. There are wonderful maids and maid employer relationship. There are the other extremes when employers took every advantage of maids, like tying shoe laces in the public when the employer could do it herself. My friend employed a maid with tying shoe laces as a primary duty. He could not tie his own shoe laces for he could not see nor touch anything beneath his waistline. Anyone want to employ a male maid, with a carrot of a few millions at the end of the contract? I know many Singaporeans are already asking to be maids under the same terms. It is not really a bad job or a bad idea you know.

  2. What is wrong with being a maid? Or doing any menial work?

As long as a living is honest it has dignity.

redbean, step down from your lofty perch and defend -- instead of hammer -- those "down there": the people you claim the govt always hammers.

Your post is really patronising and condescending to maids and your attempt to hide behind a veneer of "niceness" fails miserably.

  3. You mean my post is condescending and patronising? How can it be? I also want to be a maid if the money is good, or any job for that matter.

Any of you agree that my post is condescending?

  4. No, we are not looking down on maids. We have been threatened in no uncertain terms, by a wise old man that, when we are at the end of the ropes, our wives and daughters will have to work as maids.

That was when we got the impression that being a maid is a job only for the down and out.

Blame the old man, before he looses his memory.

  6. hey conman,

I think you are the one harbouring this feeling that maids are inferior. So the moment I made my post you straight away jumped to that conclusion. No I am not psychoanalysing you this time.

I am sure all the bloggers here can attest to my honesty in this case. You are right that I can't con a conman. So I would not try, or dare to try.

  7. The fact that you're so defensive, and willingly twist my words around speaks volumes.

You wanna win? OK lah, you win! Happy now?

  8. There's a lesson on the importance and rewards of the practice of filial piety. Good comes to those who care and love their seniors, sincerely and whole heartedly.

  9. Maids are just respectable as anybody else. The only low ones are those that lack conscience and those that sell their bodies or souls for money.

maybe Your Name is also in the Will of your taukayneo and if your services improve, the sum be also be in the millions. However, it is better that You get some from the 8.3 millions on Friday. No need to be obligated, 2 hrs sleep per day will make you age very fast.

Take good care of your health, taukayneo needs strong healthy assistant.

  12. Let our ladyfolks be grateful to the wise one, for without him they may have to solicit openly at redlight disticts.

  13. If our womenfolk need a deity to make offerings in the future, they need not look far. And everyday they will go and pray that they will not become maids.
