Singapore is so flat that with the exception of Bt. Timah Hill, the whole island is just a few metres above the water line of the sea.
With so much construction going on, the day is not far off when this dot will really turn into the Venice of the East.
Mr. Redbean, that picture of the ugly monolith that is the MBS is really NOT eye candy. Don't know why they want to put a giant surf board on top of the building when the waves here are so puny, the ikan bilis also laugh!
Hahaha, if the water level rises parts of the island gets flooded, and those with multi-million dollar homes at Sentosa Cove will get to enjoy the 'City of Venice' lifestyle, literally.
My little pigeon hole is on higher ground, so, no problem.
The heavy downpour Friday morning is causing chaos on the roads.
'MediaCorp received several calls about floods in various parts of Singapore.
Among them are Upper Thomson Road near Sin Ming Road, Jalan Boon Lay, and Bukit Timah Road after the Balmoral Road junction in the direction of Corporation Road.
The downpour accompanied by gusty winds also caused branches to break off trees.
One such incident near Orchard Central along Orchard Road blocked two lanes of traffic....'
The Island can sink, the Spirits will always be high and mighty. They will certainly soar above the water no matter how high it goes.
Rest assure we have calibres in our leaders that will guarantee that Singaporeans will be forever kept afloat and swim in sea of material and money and live a life of plenty. No money in the pocket, go to the pawn shops for easy money and there are also many banks ever ready to serve You in the Citi.
What is the rain, even if the sky falls, You will rise above it. Oooops, I mean the leaders will bring us up above the water and the sky. Please have faith in them and be positive.
A teeny weeny little bit of a low grade rainstorm and this island is in chaos?
Wait until you experience the typhoon of Hong Kong and the tornadoes of the US. When that happens, God forbid, half of this Dot will become a dot no more.
but but...didn't PAP ministers kept saying Singapore very 'world class' in everything? World Class means 1-in-50 year floods happen several times a year because the drainage system is inadequately designed to cope with the over-urbanization of Singapore?
Think I have a better explanation on the widespread flooding this morning. The down pour might be heavy but with the improved drainage system and the Marina Barrage to control flooding, flooding should not have happened so easily.
Think we have overbuilt too many flats and buildings on this piece of rock. As a result it has sank a few feet. So we can expect more flooding and deeper floods if we keep on building. Too much weight for the rock to carry.
This pay thing is going to be their downfall. They have very high expectation for their pay. They forgot that the higher they pay themselves the higher is the expectation of the people from them.
If they don't perform to the people's expectation relative to the high pay, they are going to get a lot of complaints and dissatisfaction.
Beannie likes to joke. Downfalls of leaders says he. The leaders will not fall but stand taller each day as they get richer and more powerful. Want to bet ?
Ooops, I posted too early. I heard Bukit Timah is flooded now.
ReplyDeleteGovernment said it is a freak flood that happens only once very 50 years; the last 2 floods were 100 and 50 years ago in 2009 and last week !!!!
ReplyDeleteSo what's the excuse this time.
ReplyDeleteSingapore is so flat that with the exception of Bt. Timah Hill, the whole island is just a few metres above the water line of the sea.

The next flood will be in 2060, since it only happens once in every 50 years.
ReplyDeleteWhat the Government said is always the truth, so help us God.
They have foresight. They are planning in case the whole island is flooded, like you say: )
ReplyDeleteThen they can surf away in safety.
Hahaha, if the water level rises parts of the island gets flooded, and those with multi-million dollar homes at Sentosa Cove will get to enjoy the 'City of Venice' lifestyle, literally.

ReplyDeleteLooks like a Noah's ark to me
Ah, so comforting.
ReplyDeleteAnd Wally thought it was a surf board. Actually it is a ship. When the water gets to that level, it will detach and sail away: )
Pity they did not build it bigger.
CNA: ..huge tree fell..Ang Mo Kio Ave 1 in Friday’s morning's heavy downpour, causing a massive jam which stretched several kilometres.
ReplyDeleteOh dear..bad omen for our crown prince? Last round tree fell outside Nathan's palace and NDP screen crashed during freak rain
Thank god our crown prince is safe & dry (?) up north...playing with Najib's pussy...cat lah :)
ReplyDeleteCome NDP.

Got that sinking feeling?
The only 'world class' I can see is their pay.
ReplyDeleteSeems many Singaporeans are already aware of the sinking feeling. They could feel it in their bones.
ReplyDeleteSometimes you could hear them shouting 'sink-apore, sink-apore.' Now I know what they mean.
This pay thing is going to be their downfall. They have very high expectation for their pay. They forgot that the higher they pay themselves the higher is the expectation of the people from them.

The people will be less forgiving.
