I happened to be there when they were holding this new face contest and all I had was a bridge camera and shooting with its small built in flash. Lighting and manipulating with the aperture were not an option. I just kept shooting away.
For the darker tone I could post process them but felt that they look better that way. And Wally, I vary their moods so you don't have to look at a series of smiling poster shots: )
This is just a pleasant hobby and if there is extra cash why not.

Need to work on your lighting... And the a smaller depth of field would make the portraits stand out more.
