Dr Goh Keng Swee

Dr Goh passed away this morning at the age of 91. He was famed for being the architect of Singapore and for laying a sound economic foundation that allowed Singapore to be what it is today. And many people now can claim credit when the tough part was done by Dr Goh and his generation of leaders. He was a great mover of people and resources. One minute silence for this grand old man of Singapore.

  1. An effective and efficient local leader that never crave for credit.

A Repectable Man who deservedly lived to a ripe old age.

  2. Yes, the state flag should be flown at half mast and a minute of silence observed in all schools and government organizations.

Heard he will be getting a state funeral.

Don't want to be kaypoh but how come our ex Presidente Ong got no state funeral hor?

Every time these big shots surrender their passports, I get a reminder of the frailty of human life.

I think everyone knows why. Go against the tide and you get swept away.

Not only swept away, they make sure nothing existed to remind future generations of the man.

Not only will ex Presidents Ong and Nair get written out of history, even whole constituencies just disappear, eg Anson, Cheng San and eventually Hougang and Potong Pasir.

I wonder how much longer Raffles is going to stand in front of Victoria Memorial Hall.

Who knows, we might meet again in the parallel universe lah.

  6. Haha Mr. Wally

Of what use is a state funeral then for Mr. Ong?

That's why I still have much respect for the late ex President Wee.

Anyway, may Dr. Goh rest in peace, but never forgotten.

  8. At least he had a better-than-average understanding of capitalism (depite obvious socialist leanings)

  9. The Late Mr Wee Kim Wee, Mr Ong Teng Cheong, Mr J B Jeyaretnam and Dr Goh Keng Swee received much accolades and tributes from netizens.

Wonder what Netizens will say about President Nathan, MM Lee Kuan Yew, Mr Tony Tan and Dr Toh Chin Chye when their times are up?

  11. A security officer that I know once saw me at his office building lobby and shouted to me :"GOH GOH GOH".
He did not know Dr GOH just arrived and was passing by.
Dr GOH stopped, slowly turn his shiny head around and wonder who so friendly to call him GOH.
As expected, this humble man to me dun feel offended.
That was the last time I met him.
    Dr.GOH ,I miss you.

guess You must be surrounded by Oz beauties and had kept away from radio, tv and newspapers.

MM Lee has been very busy, other than busy with events in SIN, he is visiting China and had just given a speech in English Langauge in China(Shanghai) and again exhorting the Mainlanders to embrace, oops to learn la, the English Langauge YET AGAIN.

Die die, he wants everybody to learn English, what the hell!!!

Dr Goh was a great man and may he R.I.P

It would be interesting to hear his views on LKY staying on as mentor, LHL as PM, HC losing billions, multi million $ pay for the ministars, selling away state assets, affordability of HDB flats, insufficient CPF for retirement.....

  16. Hi wedding singer, his views will now be with him forever.

Matilah, Oz does not think it is newsworthy to report about the little happenings in paradise lah. You would have to hit the link to the ST for such news or try mysingaporenews and check with the newsmakers here: )

  17. The criminal racket of HDB is better than even the most ruthless Mafia criminals could ever conjure up…AND implement:
    1. Steal people’s land which they were happily enjoying peacefully
    2. Build housing owned by the state
    3. Rent the houses back to the people whose land was stolen from them
    4. “Allow” the people to pay the rental from the earnings from their labour
    5. Politicise the whole mechanism by THREATENING the people by withdrawing support for their districts
    6. Bullshit people (whose land was stolen) that they actually have “equity” in the state-controlled homes
    Genius, sheer fucking genius.

  18. Err… no. You make bad assumptions about my life based on your imagination. My sources of info about S’pore are actually quite good.

There is much speculation amongst members of the medical community as to the present health of The Mentor-Emperor Lee. I’m only going from what I am told – of course even good sources can be wrong.
