Too much effort to write about rising cost of living

University fees increased, electricity increased, sigh, fee increases are no longer exciting news. It is happening almost daily so I am feeling tired of writing about them. Even rental of market stalls can shoot up for no good reason except a change of owners. HDB flat selling at $650k not high enough. Now Bishan EM selling at $900k with $170k COV. What else is going to go up? Salary, yes salary must go up or else who can afford to buy those multi milllion dollar properties. As for worker's salary, tkk. Worker's salary got to be kept competitive, not low, or else all the jobs will go away. Prices of cars were the highest in the world and are jumping higher. No country can ever dream of beating us in this.

  1. the worse is yet to come, look at the bidding of farmland,agricultural products companies and mining companies, plus the recent change in iron-ore pricing system and the harsh weather

    with sloshing liquidity thanks to central banks, expect inflation encountered in 2008 to repeat in a few years time

  4. Me forgot to mention that the prices of utilities, educations, healthcares and transportations foods and other neccessities were also a lot cheaper before the 90s. Electronics and other non-essentials and luxuries were however much costlier than now, BUT THEY WERE LUXURIES, MIND YOU.

  5. Its true. Just brace for the worst.

    When luxuries get expensive, very few will suffer. When essentials become expensive, many people will suffer.

  6. Mobile phones and computers are no longer luxuries. And they don't come cheap. Education is necessity and it does not come cheap, with quality of course. Taking public transport is not cheap and it is a necessity....

  7. Mr Bean;

    You may like to update yourself on mobile phones and computers.

    You can get top performing models that are Made In China at prices of toys, but packed with features; umm.. maybe too much features. Rememember at prices cheaper than toys and the batteries(they come in two with very compact handy chargers) of my many Changjiang Brand of handphones last me much longer than that of European and Japanese Brands.

    Having said the above, i hav to say that the Telco Charges are not cheap in SIN, a perpetual problem Sinners hav to suffer.
