Paradise for the rich and famous
7 gleaming blocks of high end condominiums will rise along Farrer Road. And the developer, Capital Land, can rest assured that these flats will be quickly mopped up by the rich and famous. As Liew Mun Leong has said, Singapore is such an idea place for the rich and famous to park their money and enjoy their lifestyle in peace and comfort. We are indeed a paradise. Efficient infrastructure and security for people and money. An oasis of glorious living in a sea of uncertainties.
At the rate the rich and famous are buying up the high end properties here and moving in, we are going to live among the very wealthy of the world. Just hope that their wealth will trickle down and benefit the economy and the locals. Our service industries should do very well with people willing and can afford to pay for their services.
While one end is seeing constant upgrading, will we see the other end contantly downgrading, trying to keep up with the high cost of living with their miserable pay and existence? How could we keep this lower end happy and improve their living condition and lifestyle? We have heard of many beautiful plans but am just wondering whether they are affordable when the plans are completed and offered to the people.
Everything is for the rich and famous. Just look at the reclaimed land at Marina, we spent billions of public money to reclaim land just to have a golf course so that a select few could satisfy their whims for leisure. So much for efficient utilization of scare land. I remember wooden promised the public that no more golf courses will be constructed as we already have the highest number of golf courses in a city in the world. While they were quick to cut down the size of your HDB flat, they have no qualm setting aside scare land for golf courses. Moral is never to trust any politician.
ReplyDeleteThe rich get richer. The poor get poorer. The poor can only get the crumbs that fall off the table of the rich man.
ReplyDeletehi phantom,
ReplyDeletewelcome to the blog.
actually it is better to have some crumbs from under the table than nothing at all. the servants of a rich man each much better with the leftovers than the maids working for employers in a hdb flat.
sometimes must count our blessings.
You're right. The servants of a rich man are better fed with the rich man's leftovers than a maid in a HDB pigeon hole. Words of wisdom from Redbean :)
ReplyDeleteSince there are not that many rich men in Singapore who live lives of ultra luxury, so there are not that many servants who benefit from serving them directly either.
ReplyDeleteI believe we have more than 77,000 millionaires at last count. Well, let's say anyone living in private property must be millionaire. Some HDB dwellers are already three-quarters of a millionaire.
ReplyDeleteThose 77,000 millionaires are residents, not solely Singaporeans. As foreign funds pour in, the number of millionaires will rise. The definition does not include their million dollar properties.
ReplyDeletePardon my ignorance.

i think we should discount the asset rich but pocket empty millionaires. only the super rich with a lot of cash flowing out of their pockets can be counted. people who will regard $600k as peanut should be a good guide.
ReplyDeletewhat can possibly happen in the future is that singaporeans will find it quite lucrative to work as maids and servants or butlers to these super rich. that will bring service as a profession to a new level of prestige.
